The SpaceBeautiful, comfortable, art-filled home. Owners are international travelers who have stayed in B&B accommodations around the world. Main bedroom is spacious with walk-in closet, bathroom is newly renovated. 2nd bedroom is smaller, ideal for 2nd couple traveling with friends, well behaved children, business colleagues who don't want to share a room. 2nd bedroom is only rented in conjunction with main bedroom to one group, as the two rooms share a bathroom. If you only need one room, we will not rent the second bedroom to anyone else.
Convenient to NU, public transport, Evanston parks and beaches, very close to Old Orchard Mall, Presbyterian Homes, 3 Crowns Park, Evanston Hospital, plus Baha'i Temple, Centennial Park in Wilmette. 15 minute drive to Chicago Botanic Gardens, easy access to trains into Chicago.
The larger room is spacious and contains an extra very comfortable Ikea chair/bed that is suitable for an extra adult who is not over 6' tall or a child over 4 years. Our house is not toddler proofed. Guest Access2 guest bedrooms, guest bathroom, use of kitchen for breakfast, dining room, downstairs family room with large screen TV, laundry facilities for people staying a week or more. Large back deck in lovely garden. If you have bikes, you can keep them in the garage at night. We are happy to provide plates and silverware for prepared food you bring in for lunch or dinner. Cooking of meals other than breakfast must be scheduled with Nancy in advance, and only under special circumstances. Interaction with GuestsHappy to help with directions, willing to share coffee or tea and hear about your day! Will help with restaurant recommendations and reservations. We will help with public transport schedules and information.
We are bird watchers, and can recommend good local birding spots, and when time allows, will take guests birding. Husband retired, wife works from home office. The NeighborhoodEvanston is a great community, with wonderful restaurants, a vibrant downtown and lake front, plus the amenities of Northwestern University. Our home is on a tree-lined street near multiple parks, with jogging paths, free tennis courts and a fishing/duck pond. We are also very close to Old Orchard Shopping Mall, with many major and specialty retailers and a large cinema. The Chicago Botanic Garden is about a 15 minute drive away, Evanston Hospital and Light House Beach are a 15 minute bus ride down Central St.
Ryan Field (Dyche Stadium) is straight down Central St., where NU plays football, and also where the NU Welsh-Ryan basketball arena is located.
We are also very close to the Presbyterian Homes (2 blocks) and 3 Crowns Park (6 blocks) retirement communities.
Every Saturday during the summer and fall, there's a wonderful farmer's market in downtown Evanston, with over 50 vendors and free parking. In the winter, a smaller market opens in the Ecology Center and at a local church. Getting AroundPublic transport - bus a 2 minute walk; trains to Chicago accessible from the bus. Walk to the train is about 30 minutes. CTA cards available at nearby CVS. There are good local cab services, including Uber. Free and cheap metered parking is available near the nearest Metra station, the train into downtown Chicago. Paid parking for the CTA trains is in the Evanston Hospital parking garage, or in the downtown Maple Ave. or Davis St. garages, where you can access both Metra and CTA stations on Davis St. Other Things to NoteWe may have space in our garage for $10/night if you have a fancy car and don't want to park on the street.
