The SpaceThere are many extras and special touches that will make your stay memorable - from holiday & seasonal decorations to breakfast foods & yummy snacks. With a private entry and off-street parking, this beautifully decorated 2nd floor apartment is approximately 700 sq.ft. and has been recently updated. It includes a romantic bedroom with a brand new memory foam queen mattress (plus an extra twin-size air mattress if needed), a cozy well-appointed living room with a 37" flat screen TV that has DirecTV capabilities and a full bathroom with a large shower. If you're staying only one day or a couple months, you will have everything you need in the fully equipped, spacious eat-in kitchen with a BEAUTIFUL view out back. We provide "yummy" foods if you'd like to make your own breakfast (eggs, bacon, cereal, milk, juices and home-baked goods). If you are inclined to cook all your meals or just a batch of cookies, we have all the basics you need (flour, spices, sugar, etc) during your stay here. From the coffee/tea station, popcorn station, and tons of snacks that we provide, you'll never need to leave! And of course, there's free Wi-Fi! Guest AccessIn addition to the apartment, in spring, summer or fall you will be able to enjoy the wild birds, turkeys & small animals that visit our assorted feeders from our covered front porch with comfy seating facing our wooded front yard. Also, in the backyard, there is a deck with a patio set to enjoy the open country views, many container mini gardens and the lovely white picketed fenced "secret garden". In the SPRINGTIME, our wild turkeys that roam our neighborhood will have romance on their minds, so it's very likely that you may witness our assorted toms proudly displaying their incredible plummage to impress the lady hens - it's quite a show & a treat!! In the heat of SUMMERTIME, you will have access to our refreshing private in-ground pool, which includes a slide & diving board, 2 patio table & chair sets with umbrellas, gravity lounge chairs, and fun inner tubes & floating rafts for your enjoyment. In AUTUMN, you can sit around our gas fire pit to gaze at the stars & make s'mores or hot dogs with the fixings that we provide. The Royal Oaks Fruit Orchard is a wonderful adventure with apples to pick & yummy baked goods to enjoy on a crisp fall day. In the WINTER, it's a beautifuI Winter Wonderland here - the apartment is especially cozy with a decorated Christmas tree & holiday decorations to make the space special & memorable. Just 5 minutes away, you can go to Oneys Tree Farm and get a beautiful Christmas tree to take home when you leave us. I guarantee that you won't want to leave! Interaction with GuestsPrior to your trip, a couple days before your reservation, I like to touch bases with my guests, usually via Airbnb message or by text, to find out the approximate time of your arrival, as it's necessary for me to be here to show you around. At that time, I will also send you exact directions to our house when you turn onto our street, as most of the homes are set back with long driveways leading to the houses, including ours. Also, on the day of your arrival, I would really appreciate it if you could please give me about a 5 minute heads up before you get here so I can be watching for you.
Upon your arrival, I will personally greet and show you around so you can get thoroughly acclimated to the property and apartment. After our initial meeting, I prefer (and find that most guests do too) to let you have your space so that you can make yourself at home and feel comfortable while on your trip. I am always available by Airbnb message, text, or phone if you have any questions or concerns, as we live in the main house and will be available at all times if you do need anything. My husband and I are the only ones who live here on the property, so it's nice and peaceful, as we're close to retirement age ;-). You may see me filling bird feeders, or If it's warm outside, I'll be in my gardens, but other than that, we're very low-key people and will always respect our guests' privacy. The NeighborhoodThere is much to do here! Just 15 minutes away, the historic Woodstock Square with its famous Opera House and unique & quaint shops and restaurants is special and not to be missed. The movie "Groundhog Day" with Bill Murray & Andie McDowell was taped here in Woodstock and you'll see signs all over town indicating which scenes were taped in that particular spot. The incredible Lake Geneva recreational area is less than a half hour drive away and a wonderful place to spend a couple days visiting. Also, Royal Oaks Fruit Orchard and Oney's Christmas Tree Farm and Nursery are just a few minutes drive. McHenry County has over 20 conservation areas with hiking and nature trails. 3 of them - Rush Creek, Pleasant Valley and Boone Creek are within 15 minutes of us. We can provide you with all the necessary information upon your arrival regarding these nature conservation areas - just ask! With the Concorde Centre's meeting & banquet facilities just a few minutes down the road; and the Starline Factory, which is a mecca for weddings, events, art, food and history about 10 minutes away in Harvard, we have SO MUCH to offer!! With our reasonable rates and beautiful country setting, why stay at an expensive, uninspired hotel room, when you can enjoy a complete suite that offers everything and more during your stay. Lake Geneva is a beautiful area, but their overnight facilities are pricey, and I guarantee you, you'll be glad you stayed here in the peace and quiet where there are no crowds! By all means, go out during the day to explore northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin, but I promise you, coming back here and staying overnight will put "the cherry on top" of your adventures and make your time in our "neighborhood" special and memorable!! Getting AroundWe are located about 30 minutes from Interstate 90 and approximately 10 miles from the Wisconsin border. Also, just off of the Woodstock Square, you can catch a train that will take you through the northwest suburbs and into Downtown Chicago. Ohare Int'l Airport (Chicago) and General Mitchell Int'l Airport (Milwaukee) are approx. 1-1/2 hours away. Other Things to NotePLEASE BE ADVISED, although we do have pets in OUR home, our pets have NEVER been in the suite. This listing space is totally separate from our house and is self-contained with it's own HVAC system, etc.
This is an adult only accommodation - no children please, although INFANTS WHO ARE NOT MOBILE ARE WELCOME :-).
*Also, pets are not allowed, as we need to accommodate our guests who may be allergic to pet dander.
**For long-term reservations (more than a week's stay), we provide everything that you'll need during your time here, i.e., sheets, towels, dishes, pots & pans, vacuum, swiffer, broom, mop, etc., but we DO NOT provide maid service, as I am the sole house cleaner. As a result, we would appreciate your help in keeping the apartment tidy and clean with everything that we provide you with. We very much want you to make yourselves at home, but please be respectful of our property while doing so. :-) Also, we initially provide toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning products, spices, flour, sugar, etc, but if and when you run out of anything, we ask if you would please purchase these items on your own. As far as food goes, there will be fresh eggs, orange juice, butter, bottled water and assorted snacks for your enjoyment to welcome you when you arrive, but you will need to grocery shop for whatever else you'd like while you're here - the Super Wal-Mart is only 7 minutes away. Our washer & dryer is also included for your use!!
***For an individual guest on their own, depending on the length of their stay, we offer a discount. Please send an inquiry for special pricing.***
We hope you enjoy your stay, as we would love to have you come back to experience the different seasons with us here at the "Promised Lands".
