The SpaceThis large, bright queen room offers the comfort and convenience of home, without the housework. It's on the main floor for easy access (no stairs to climb) and everything else is right at hand, too. It's just a few steps to your own private bathroom, walk-in closet, TV sitting area with recliners, or out to the front porch and decks.
Our 1882 Victorian farmhouse is completely restored, with a blend of modern conveniences and historic charm. In addition to the 4 guest rooms, we have a spacious parlor/sitting room, a dining room, and a large open kitchen. Outside you'll find an in-ground swimming pool (seasonal) with patio and fire pit, wrap-around decks, three covered porches, and up above there's a large balcony overlooking the yard, pasture, and pond.
We're located about 50 miles south of Kansas City, near Fontana, Kansas. We're convenient to the KC metro area, but located in a rural setting, on a hill with great views and with no visible neighbors.
Our goal is to be a self-sustaining place for vacationers who are looking to spend some time in a rural agrarian experience. It's like "farm to table" but better--the table is right on the farm. Ask us about our farmstay upgrade to get dinner included with your stay.
We're a real working farm with cattle, chickens, ducks, and turkeys, barn cats and outdoor dogs, and a cute but totally useless house dog. Guest AccessNetherfield Natural Farm offers a guest pantry and refrigerator, loads of books, a piano, cards, and indoor and outdoor games. In the barn we have a three-season bar/game area. Outdoors we have the pool, fire pit, hammocks, a pond with a dock and fishing gear available, walking trails, and a picnic area with another fire pit.
If you're interested in booking the whole house for an event, such as a family reunion, we can arrange the large open spaces for group seating, and can open the kitchen for your use. Interaction with GuestsWe are in the house with you and will have breakfast with you. We're happy to show you around the farm and share with you what we do here. You're welcome to spend a much or as little time with us as you like. The NeighborhoodSome of the nearby towns are Paola, Osawatomie, Hillsdale, Mound City, Lynn Valley Lakes, and LaCygne. They all have a rich history as well as offering camping, hiking, water sports, horseback riding, golfing, shopping, and just relaxing. You can enjoy local museums (including the John Brown Museum in Osawatomie), top-notch KC barbecue, town squares, antique shops, and county fairs. And it's an easy trip to the Kansas City metro area or to historic Fort Scott. Getting AroundWe are in a rural, farmland setting with parking. We about 15 miles from the closest store in Osawatomie. There are more/better store options in Paola, about 20 minutes away. Other Things to NotePlease check out our other listings to see our other rooms.
