Offering wonderful country views, our place on the knoll is perfect for families looking to explore the White Mountain region in an authentic Maine setting. While not brand spanking new, our place is comfy and neat in a homey kind of way while being located on the doorstep of the White Mountain National Forest. Wake up with a warm cup of coffee or tea and watch the morning sun rise over the mountains in the distance, read a book on the breezeway while resting in a recliner, take a walk outside for a breath of fresh country air, gaze at a starlit night sky unobstructed by the city lights, or just ponder the imponderables during the tranquil early morning hours. The kids will love the thrill of running up and down the hill during the spring, summer and fall, and the sliding in the winter can't be beat. During hot summer days we can provide exclusive use of a picnic area on Keewaydin Lake for swimming, lakeside barbecues, and other recreational water sports and, additionally, the public but typically secluded Virginia Lake beach is nearby and located entirely within the White Mountain National Forest. Maine has four wonderful seasons, and you can't go wrong no matter which season you pick for your visit. As described further below, our place offers the ability to take part in the best that Western Maine has to offer including skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, biking, running, swimming, boating, kayaking, whitewater rafting, fishing, tax-free North Conway outlet shopping, and fine music. If planning to visit during the winter months and you haven't thought of it already, bring your skis (or rent some) and sample a variety of nearby downhill ski terrain. Sunday River in Bethel and family friendly and affordable Shawnee Peak in Bridgton and Mt. Abrams in Greenwood are all only 30 minutes away, and the ski slopes of North Conway, New Hampshire (Wildcat, Cranmore, Attitash, Bretton Woods) are only 45-55 minutes away. If you're looking instead for an athletic, aerobic workout and enjoy wooded serenity, bring your cross-country skis and simply step out the back door for an exhilarating trip through the National Forest (back country and via nearby snowmobile trails). Cross-country ski trails are not regularly broken out so be prepared to cut your own path. If shushing down slopes or skiing amongst the trees is not your thing and you prefer snowmobiling instead, then haul your family's sleds (registered in Maine of course, and preferably in New Hampshire as well) right up here as access to Maine's Interconnected Snowmobile Trail is close by and a ride to New Hampshire is in the offing during January and February most years. Feel like less moving and more relaxing, try some ice fishing on any of the nearby lakes and ponds, but be sure to check the fishing regulations beforehand. In addition to nearby skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing, one great thing about our place is the front hill which can't be beat for sliding. As children we must have hiked that hill a thousand times for a thousand wild rides on our slides, and we're sure your children will love it too. No matter your plans, if snow is a necessity for your utmost vacation enjoyment and our place is still available, please feel free to call and ask for a good faith report on the backyard snow conditions (no weather or snow guarantees of course, but we're happy to help). As for sleeping accommodations, the house has two bedrooms (one on the first floor and another above it on the second floor), and each bedroom has a double bed. In addition to the bedrooms, there is a loft upstairs with two single beds. Almost all of the rooms, including the living room, dining room, sitting room, and kitchen, offer views of the mountaintops surrounding Keewaydin Lake. Please check out the pictures to get a better feel for our place. As for amenities, although we have just about all that you would need to enjoy your time here in Maine, please note that we do not offer cable tv - what a shame it would be to be in the great state of Maine for outdoor fun and yet stuck in front of the television. We don't want the kids to be glued to their favorite tv programs and then leave having failed to get the most out of their stay (no matter the weather, we advise getting outside into the elements). We do, however, have a DVD player so feel free to bring along your favorite DVDs for nighttime entertainment if books and games are not cutting it. Also, high speed internet is not yet available for similar reasons, but smartphones should receive a signal if you need to keep track of emails or otherwise keep up on current events. With that said, we have a fully-equipped kitchen with a stove, full-size fridge, microwave, toaster, blender, and coffee maker, together with a washer and dryer. In addition, linens, towels, cups, knives, forks, spoons and dishes are provided.

Please, NO SMOKING inside. • We love animals, but ask that you have NO pets, we have two regular guests that are severely allergic, so please, no pets. • All you need is your clothes and any food you desire. • The house is equipped with high-speed wireless internet and cable TV but no telephone service, so bring a cell (there is great cell phone coverage) • HEAT: The furnace is set at 50 while we're not there, but the place heats up FAST. The thermostat is right in the hall as you come into the house. Open the lid and move the temperature up to the desired temp and hit "hold". That will keep the same temp your entire stay. Upon departure, please take the heat off of "hold' and it will resume the 50 when you leave, that would be great. • The Chalet will be plowed while you are there, you may be asked to move your vehicles in order for them to clean out the drive way. We do ask that you shovel the side stairs and path to the driveway after its been plowed, if it snows while you’re there. • SUPPLIES: Linens are in the spare bedroom closet, more than you'll probably ever need, if you need more, they are in the linen basket in the closet in the spare room. Feel free to do laundry in general, I LOVE that feature. • POTS & PANS: Our pots and pants are non-stick for easy cleaning, please DO NOT use metal on those pans, we have plastic utensils for cooking. • If you need it, detergent, etc, for the washer and dryer are on the shelf in the basement. • Plates, pots, pans, etc, are all in the cabinets in the kitchen. • TRASH: Please leave your trash in the containers in the basement, bottles and cans can be left in the bins at the bottom of the basement stairs. • SODA & ALCOHOL BOTTLES & CANS: Maine recycles soda and alcohol bottles, there is a bin at the bottom of the stairs for all bottle and can returnable. All other trash can be placed in the trash cans under the basement stairs. • CLEANING: One of the ways we can keep our costs down is by adopting the “leave it as you found it” way of renting. If you can leave the Chalet in the same condition (or better) that found it that will help us to keep cleaning costs down and allow the next renters to make themselves home and keep costs reasonable in the future. We'd love your feedback of what works and what doesn't as we'd obviously love to have you back and get to a point where we're only renting to friends or friends of friends. Let me know if you need anything! See you on the slopes! Dan & Joline

The SpaceMy place is currently offered only in July when the weather is predictably pleasant, often with clear blue skies and soft breezes. It may cool down a bit at night. On warm afternoons there are outdoor sitting spaces for either sun or shade, and on cool evenings there's a campfire area ready for marshmallows or smores. The kitchen is set up for cooking, and includes a full refrigerator, 4 burner electric stove with oven, dishwasher and microwave. Also there's 2 kinds of coffee makers, a bread and jam machine, waffle iron and other typical small appliances. The living room is great for reading, talking, or playing cards and board games. There are 2 baths - the one upstairs has a tub and shower, downstairs has another shower. There are 2 upstairs bedrooms adjacent to a large bathroom with a tub and shower. One upstairs bedroom has a double bed and a big view of the yard and beyond. The other upstairs bedroom has a twin bed below and a loft above. It's painted with a fantasy tree motif, and there's glow-in- the-dark stars on the ceiling that come out when the light is switched off. Large windows look beyond a big hemlock tree and into the woods where deer often wander. The downstairs bedroom is adjacent to the downstairs bathroom, and includes a futon style bed and sitting area. At this house, you may want to while away the hours right here, but remember great restaurants, activities, shopping, golf and and other adventures are just minutes away. Guest AccessThe house and all 15 acres are your's to enjoy. Just up the street there is a fantastic waterfall that leads into personal sized "jetted" pools, and a larger mountain pool that promises an invigorating swim. Crocker Pond, just a 2 mile drive (or backroad bike ride) is part of the White Mountain National Forest. It's great for frogging, paddlesports, or even an overnight in one of the campsites. A popular day hike up Albany Mountain leaves from that same area. In town, canoe or kayak rentals are available for the Androscoggin River, as are tubing adventures. Kids might enjoy a day at the Adventure Center, with laser tag, mini golf and a fabulous water slide. Also in town you'll find a world class golf course. Interaction with GuestsI'll meet you when you arrive, answer any questions you might have, and leave you with a custom map that will show you places you might want to explore while you're here. The NeighborhoodMy house sits off a quiet country road at the end of a long driveway. I share my 15 acres with deer, moose, and other Maine wildlife. The property borders a large wetland that has been beaver habitat for decades. It is extremely quiet, and there are no other houses in sight. Getting AroundFor paddlesports, both Crocker Pond and the Androscoggin river are nearby, and there's a variety of on and off road bicycling routes. If you have your own equipment, there's storage space available while you're here. Rentals and shuttles are easily accessed in town. Other Things to NoteContact me with any concerns or questions. I'd be happy to clarify my descriptions or give more details about my place and this community.

The SpaceThis home was built within a year or two of year 1900. It has a long history of being used as a place for it's owners to reside as well as a boarding house. In this tradition the owners Bryon and Lyndsey live on the third floor and will share access to the bathrooms and kitchen. We will be happy to help you find what you need to use and enjoy the house. Communal spaces include a kitchen with an island, a living room with two couches split up by a chimney, and a cozier upstairs library sitting room. The barn was obviously used as a carriage house in the past with a earthen ramp in the front and is a great place to play games and music when the temperatures allow. A mudroom with hooks and cubbies provides a place to put outdoor gear to keep the kitchen less cluttered. Guest AccessGuest will have access to both bathrooms, the library, the living space, kitchen, barn, porch, and yard. Parking is limited and we may have to get creative during the winter months.
