Guest AccessThe Twin Villages of Damariscotta - Newcastle conveniently located only 2 min. off of the major highway, Route 1, in Midcoast Maine. Damariscotta, the "river of many fishes" in Abernaki, is named for the alewives that annually migrate the Damariscotta River and then 'climb' the amazing fish ladder at Damariscotta Mills in order to spawn in the Lake. The river is also one of the northernmost mating grounds of the primitive and marvelous horseshoe crab. And these waters support seals, ospreys, bald eagles, king fishers, great blue herons, mackerel and stripe bass, just to name a few. Humans have also worked this river for about 13,000 years. Their most famous legacy forms immense, white oyster shell mounds on the riverbanks. These shell heaps are testament to the oyster beds that once produced shellfish one foot in diameter. Today the river produces farmed oysters and mussels you can sample in local restaurants. Mazu, your boat hotel, docks at Schooner Landing Marina where you can paddle our kayaks or canoe from, along the tidal Damariscotta River to catch the magical wildlife, timeless mansions and the working waterfront of oyster farmers, lobstermen and fishermen and visit the marvelous state park, Dodge Point, and its beach. The SpaceThis beautiful old historic home, is light filled, cozy and feels like a home away from home. It has many of the original features that speaks to the authenticity of an old Maine house. Adjoining front parlor rooms with a working fireplace for a rainy night only adds to the charming ambiance of this home. There is something about the energy of this house that brings a sense of comfort to those who enter it, which always bring me a sense of joy and an interest in sharing it. There is one bedroom on the second floor that is quite spacious with a king size bed. This room is the only bedroom that has air conditioning offered and is directly off the full bath. The bedrooms on the first floor have one queen size bed and a set of twins. These rooms have fans provided. All rooms have quality bedding that includes soft sheets, a comforter, quilts with closets and bureaus to accommodate your things. There is a television with DVD player for guests to use in the main living room that is for videos only, no television or cable. The beauty of staying here is that in addition to the accommodations, you will be on the property of Maine artist. I have been a professional artist for 14 years, so the art the adorns my home is the work of many local Maine artists that I can connect you directly with, either to meet or to purchase art from, if you so desire. I have knowledge of galleries, and artists from Portland to Rockland that can further enhance your visit here. As a guest you will have complete access to the entire property, with the exception of the barn, which is my office and art studio. If I am on the property and the door to the building is open, then it is a free invitation for you pop your head in and see what I am up to. That is the fun part about renting from a working artist who is partially onsite. Guest AccessYou will receive a set of keys at check in so you may enter and leave premises at your convenience. If you are not going to make it before check in time, where you will be given the keys and shown around, we will arrange another plan. There will be a lock box for you to place the keys into at the time of departure. Interaction with GuestsThe barn on this property is my office and art studio so visitors as well as myself will be on and off the property during your stay (mostly in the daytime). I respect each individuals privacy, so you may have me engage as much or as little as you would like. I do however, encourage you to utilize my knowledge of the Midcoast to your advantage for places to go, people to meet and experience to be had. The NeighborhoodYou are located just a few minutes walk into the village of Damariscotta where you will find restaurants, art galleries, and shopping. The house resides on one the oldest streets which is filled with historic houses that give you an authentic Maine village experience. Local health food store, fresh seafood market and grocery stores are all within walking distance. Renting a kayak and paddle board at the head of the river in town, or taking a riverboat tour is a great way to explore the village by water. Getting AroundThe Concord Trailway bus stop, which connects you to Portland, Boston, and New York is just 1/4 mile from house on Main St. We have limited taxi services here, so a car is highly recommended. Other Things to NoteThis rental is in the most central location for the Midcoast. Pemaquid Point Lighthouse and State Park Beach is just 10 minutes from town ( where you can also catch a ferry to Monhegan Island. Boothbay Harbor, which has a plethra of fine dining establishments, art galleries and is home to one of the largest botanical gardens in New England is just 20 minutes down the road. Camden, Rockport and Rockland are 35 minutes north as is Brunswick, which is the same distance heading south.

The SpaceWe are less than a mile from downtown Damariscotta, with its charming harbor, shops, awesome theater, and even more awesome bookstore. Lots of wonderful restaurants around, and we have written a Guest Book that highlights some of our favorite spots. We offer our guests the use of a beach umbrella and two beach chairs, a bathroom with hairblower and washer/dryer, and a fully equipped kitchen. There is a portable full-length mirror, especially for those prepping for a special occasion! We've created this space with writers and artists in mind, and know you'll find the Barn Loft is a quiet comfortable space to do great work or to simply relax and enjoy our beautiful part of Maine. Guest AccessWe have outdoor seating on the lawn (wrought iron chairs and coffee table), and a picnic table and umbrella, that guests are welcome to use. (We have an open deck that is currently undergoing a much-needed cosmetic facelift! We hope to have it back in use by October 1.) Amy has a large flower garden and vegetable garden, and welcomes visitors -- please stay on the paths, and if you want some veggies or some flowers, just ask! There are pots of culinary herbs right outside the apartment door, especially for our guests. The side yard, the screened porch, and our home, are our private space and we appreciate your respecting those boundaries. Interaction with GuestsYes, we will be around to answer questions and offer tips if you like! We're eager to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Best to reach out to Amy first, as Will is working most of the time in his studio and gallery. The NeighborhoodWill is part of the Bristol Road Galleries, a collaboration of 4 artists all within walking distance of each other. We have info about all of them, and will happily give you directions and/or introductions to any of them. Will offers art lessons in oils or acrylics, if you are interested to study with him during your stay. The garden is a lovely spot to set-up your plein-air easel! Getting AroundWe have a large gravel driveway for parking. No public transportation on our road itself. We do have a local taxi service, and a bus that goes up and down the East Coast can be taken from in-town. Other Things to NotePlease note: We have added the required 9% Maine Lodging Tax to the Booking Fee. We will NOT pester you to collect local tax when you arrive. Also: We have two dogs on the property -- both very friendly, and we never allow them up in the Barn Loft. They are occasionally out in the yard, but we will make every effort to keep them separate from you, if you have any concerns. MacKenzie is a senior female yellow lab and very sweet. Gordon is a young brown mutt, very enthusiastic and cheery.

Within a 2 0 minute drive you can get to Pemaquid Beach, Pemaquid lighthouse, Fort William Henry, Dodge Point, Damariscotta Lake Beach and many other beautiful areas that are open to the public. There are many artists in the area along with many galleries. There are musical groups and both amateur and professional theater companies. There are 2 weekly farmers' markets and many good restaurants- my favorite- Savory Maine. Getting AroundDamariscotta is about an hour from the jetport in Portland and about 1/2 hour from the Amtrack station in Brunswick. The first time I saw the downtown of Damariscotta, Maine, I felt as though I had come home. The small village of old sea captain’s houses, the perfect New England churches and steeples and mid 19th century brick buildings huddled near the river touched my heart. One building in particular stayed in my mind. For years, this building was the apothecary shop for the town. Downstairs, a typical tin-ceilinged store, flanked with innumerable shelves and drawers, served the needs of the small community. Upstairs, the family of the pharmacist lived in lovely rooms with maple floors, high ceilings, and views of both the river, marina, and back bay. Years later, the pharmacy was taken over by a country store and the top two floors were turned into apartments. Shops came and shops went, and in 1988 a woman moved into the second floor apartment (it even has a fireplace, built in book cases, corner cupboards, a butler’s pantry), and she is still there. When the chance came to purchase the apothecary building in 2006, Jeff and I wandered through the rooms, explored the big, old basement, tramped up the stairs to second floor apartment, then up the final 20 stairs to the top floor, my favorite. It felt like a Paris (don’t laugh) apartment. Maybe it was the 33 steps, but I loved the high ceiling in the stairwell, the moldings, the funky 30's kitchen, the living room, and the two bedrooms. “I want to remodel this someday and live here part time, or maybe rent it as a BNB (which translates to bed NO breakfast). What an experience to live right in the heart of a historic New England village," I said. Jeff and I had often talked about buying a small hotel that we wanted to design and outfit with comfortable furniture and beds, antiques, art, and lots of wonderful books. When our first guests checked into Comfort Found, they said, "This is a HOME," which was exactly how we wanted them to feel.  When Jeff asked me what we should call it, I thought of the book Comfort Found in Good Old Books by George Hamlin Fitch. Written in 1911 by a gentleman who was the book reviewer for the San Francisco Chronicle, Fitch’s book highlighted the most beloved of the books he turned to for comfort. He believed, as do I, that cultivating a love of reading is one of the best gifts you can give yourself. Books bring the world to your easy chair; they give you wings; and they are ever faithful friends whether you need inspiration, edification, or consolation. Fitch believed in the verity of the old quote by Thomas Carlyle, “My books are friends that never fail me.” Jeff and I would like to invite you to experience the real taste of New England in the warm and welcoming rooms of our dear "Comfort Found." I think you'll feel, as did our guests, that you've stepped into a well-loved home. Thee is welcome here friend, Sharon and Jeff Comfort Found-Literary Lodging ((SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) it to find web site) was created by the award winning author and illustrator Sharon Lovejoy and her husband, Jeff Prostovich, a real estate broker.

The SpaceThis is a charming, vintage house that I am restoring. A "diamond in the rough" is how one guest described it. It has 2 bedrooms and a full bath upstairs, and a half bath (sink, toilet) downstairs. There is a queen-sized air mattress. I didn't list the sofa for sleeping but it does unfold into a double bed (however when opened it is slanted, my 20 year old nephew slept on it, but I don't think it would be comfortable for 2 adults, I've slept on the sofa which has down cushions, but then I'm also very short 5'2" so I didn't list it as a sleeping option, but it could be used in a pinch). The house has new wiring, a fully equipped kitchen (dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, blender, etc). Bay window seat, ceiling fans. There is a gas grill available. Wireless internet, TV has a roku box through which netflix, local, national, & international news, weather, and various other channels are available. When not rented, I will be working on various projects around the house. Guest AccessThe entire house & 2-car garage are for guests. Interaction with GuestsI will be living nearby most of the summer. If I am not around, I will provide details on contacting a local person to trouble-shoot. There is a 3-ring binder in the kitchen with recommended places to dine and things-to-do, both locally and in the mid-coast region. I am also happy to make suggestions if you ask. The NeighborhoodDamariscotta is a captivating, small town on the Damariscotta River which is known for producing world-famous oysters. It is a terrific launching point for exploring nearby Boothbay Harbor, Pemaquid peninsula, and Camden. The town itself has a movie theater, cafe/bookstore, plenty of eclectic shops, restaurants, pubs, a fresh seafood shop, a high quality butcher shop, and the original Reny's (a kind of five & dime store that sells anything and everything). Close by there's a twice weekly farmer's market (Monday & Friday), a health-food grocery store (Rising Tide), plus the local favorite, Larson's Lunchbox for their lobster and crab rolls. Getting AroundThe house is a stone's throw away from Damariscotta's main street. Roll out of bed and walk over to the Bookstore/Cafe for a morning coffee & crepe or bagle breakfast. Or walk a few more blocks to Fernald's Country Store & Deli for lunch (fabulous sandwiches for picnicking). Try King Eider's for the world renowned Damariscotta River oysters & a craft beer on tap, or go high-end and dine at Van Lloyd's Bistro. From either place it is only a stroll home. Other Things to NoteGarage is large enough to accommodate any bikes, canoes, or kayaks that you might bring.

Chez Nous Deux is the last house at the end of a private association peninsula and point and has views of Hog Island, where bald eagles nest and soar. We have our own private dock and river frontage leading to the Atlantic Ocean downriver approximately 15 miles. There is a deck that encompasses the back of the house and overlooks the river and dock with a Westerly perspective, thus providing spectacular sunsets at cocktail hour. You can watch the 'Oyster Girl' boat, pluck world-famous Pemaquid Oysters (oysters served in the local restaurants), right in front of our house. A Sunroom has similar views and contains a large flat-screen TV with Cable, a telescope and binoculars. There is wireless high-speed Internet access as well. The house is fully equipped and winterized, with air- conditioning in the bedrooms. We have decorated, as shown in our photos, in a comfortable cottage style. We are in walking or kayaking distance of the town of Damariscotta, and the Regional Hospital and Emergency room are even closer. We have a two person kayak and a two person canoe for guests' use. Chez Nous Deux is newly decorated, including furniture, paint and pine floors. Its location is perfect for taking in all the activities nearby including whale watching, kayaking from our dock, swimming, viewing the galleries, shops, and restaurants in Damariscotta, spending the day on Monhegan Island (artist colony), watching the eagles on Hog Island or in our trees as you have your morning coffee(if you hear the resident crows cawing its probably because there is an eagle in one of our tall pine trees that line the waterfront), golfing at one of the nearby courses, fishing on a chartered fishing boat, enjoying lobsters, oysters (Made easier with our restaurant designed shucker) and steamers dunked in butter, attending an antiques auction, meandering down to Bristol Mills to the swimming hole or visiting the picturesque towns of Rockland, Rockport, and Camden 27 miles North or Boothbay Harbor 15 miles. We have a guide book in the house that you can peruse to decide your day's activities or just kickback in the sunroom or deck and enjoy nature and the peace and quiet.

This unique property is a wonderful family retreat right on the beautiful Damariscotta River only 1.5 miles from the quaint village of Damariscotta. We are nestled in 13 acres of private woods and yet it is close to many attractions. You can kayak to town on one of our kayaks, swim in the river (at high tide as river is tidal) or in the pool, hike around the property or read on the relaxing 60 ft. covered river deck. This property was owned at one time by the Schraft candy family and even has 2 old digs on the property. The original log cabin is the living room cabin with stone fireplace and 2 small sleeping lofts (2 single beds in each). There is a kitchen/dining room cabin with a wood stove and a great family table overlooking the river, also a 2 bedroom cabin with 2 bathrooms and laundry room below. These 3 cabins are connected by a deck and wonderful covered porch. Then the upper cabin (about 20 yards up the hill) has a king bedroom, bath, kitchen and second bedroom with its own door & porch. The king also has its own screen porch. Down another 80 yd. path is the small bunkhouse, which has 2 sets of bunks and its own separate bathroom (sink, shower and compost toilet) and porch. This is truly a unique getaway for a family and friends. We fell in love with it in 1988 and last year built our year-round home a ways up the hill from the cabins. We know you will enjoy our little piece of heaven in mid-coast Maine. (Please note we rent by the week only in the summer.)

5 Generation camp on Damariscotta Lake recently remodeled to its original flare. The camp is located on end of Damariscotta Lake in Nobleboro, Maine. Best fishing on the lake where you can get Brown and Lake Trout, Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass, Pickerel, White Perch. We have a huge sandy beach (across the road) with large docks for sun bathing, fishing, boating, kayaking, canoeing, and jet skiing. (we have a paddle board and two small kayaks and jet skis and boats can be rented nearby) The camp has a very open concept where the kitchen has a five burner gas stove with convection oven for entertaining or to help with that lobster bake outside and a small breakfast table. The main living room has a pull out couch where one can watch TV or movies. The porch is awesome for reading and has full sunlight all day long with 12 windows across the front of the camp to look onto the lake, with two large couches and coffee table- great to listen to the loons, watch the kids swim or play in the large yard, and have a great cup of coffee and read magazines or a good book. We have a great fire pit on our patio where you can hang out and roast marshmallows for s'mores. Great wildlife and birds abound. Our loft can sleep several kids and is fun to play in and has toys. Updated modern bathroom with sink and shower with a tiled floor. Keywords: Camp
