The SpaceCozy post and beam artist cottage near charming Freeport Harbor, on the Harraseeket River, in South Freeport, Maine. 2 plus bedrooms, 1.5 bath, plus an seasonal outdoor shower, country kitchen. The cottage is nestled in a quiet neighborhood about a mile from the harbor and 2 miles from the outlets and LL Bean in downtown Freeport. Sunny back deck with picnic table. Quiet woodsy location. Close enough to Portland and Casco Bay for day-trips, but away from the crowds. Also convenient to Brunswick and Bowdoin College. Walk down to the town landing and working waterfront, a short drive to public beaches at Winslow Park and Wolf Neck on Casco Bay and watch the boats parade by. The cottage is my home and comes fully furnished, including linens and kitchen items. Daysails on my small sloop or trips to Admiral Peary's home on Eagle Island can be arranged. Bring your bikes and kayaks. Great restaurants and heaps of art galleries in the area. Summer music series at LL Bean and year-round happenings in nearby Portland, Brunswick and the Maine Mid-Coast. Guest AccessGuests have access to the laundry in the basement but it should be noted that the "concierge cave" is also my workshop, studio and office space and I will have to access this space from time to time during your stay. I usually only access it between 9am and 7pm unless there is an emergency and I usually call or text before I show up. It hasn't been a problem with guests before and it's usually a great time for guests to take advantage of my local knowledge, we try to keep you away from the tourist traps! Interaction with GuestsI usually stay at my girlfriend Pam's place when guests are in town or on one of the boats so I am easily accessible and have been known to drag guests out on the water from time to time, Casco Bay is such a great place but it is not very easily accessed for folks from out of town who are not necessarily in the know. So bottom line I'm usually around if you need me. I am a licensed captain and I work out on the water so if I am not available there are friends and neighbors who are! The NeighborhoodIt's a sleepy little neighborhood just around the corner from all the mayhem and shopping that the Freeport outlets and LL Bean are famous for! Getting AroundYou can get here by train from Boston and a short cab ride (2 miles) for those of you who don't have a private vehicle. You can also rent cars out of Brunswick and Portland. Zip Car and other car sharing options are available at Bowdoin College in Brunswick and the airport in Portland is 15-20 minutes away. Other Things to NoteCasco Bay is a wonderful place best kept secret in the Portland area, ask me and I will let you know some unique way to check out the bay!

The SpaceThis space is great! It is clean, simple, modest, and super comfortable. The flooring is new Pergo-style (summer 2015). It is perfect for either a single/couple or a couple with one child. The bed is a queen Tempur-Pedic. Child can sleep on an air mattress. The yard is great for children too. What really makes this space unique is how separate it feels from the hustle and bustle of Freeport despite being just a few minutes walk away. Small TV does not have cable, but it does have DVD and we do have wireless. Guest AccessLaundry in the bathroom, shower (no bath), private parking and entrance, small kitchen. All pots, pans, utensils, plates, etc. provided. If you need anything else, just ask! The loft you see the stairs going up to is not included. We have a double kayak for medium-sized people to loan. We are a 3m drive to put in boats at Porter's Landing, or 5m from the Town Dock in S. Freeport Harbor. Interaction with GuestsWe interact as much, or as little, as guests like. We are a teacher and an architect who are at work most days during the school year. We have three teenage daughters, one of whom is still in high school and living at home. She is a wonderful babysitter! We may need to access the laundry and if so would make arrangements to do so when it is convenient for you. The laundry/bathroom, connects our part of the house with the apartment. Locks, etc. are in place. Getting AroundAmtrak station is a five minute walk. Other Things to NoteNo pets please.

The SpaceIt is close to the highway, waterfront and downtown Freeport, but on a private 1.5 acre lot. Guest AccessPrivate bedroom and private bath, with shared use of laundry room, living room, kitchen, dining room, yard. Interaction with GuestsWe work full time so there is limited interaction with guests. The NeighborhoodCourntry setting, but close to Portland, Brunswick and access highway. The SpaceThis is a new cottage, built in 2013/14. It has Heating and Air Conditioning and all new appliances. The interior is cozy/artsy/funky, yet functional with cable TV, Wi-Fi, and an iHome player for music from your iPhone or Android. The kitchenette is functional for light eating or warming up food. In season, we also have an outside patio table with chairs for outside eating or reading. The cottage stands alone and has its own parking. Come and go as you please. You can walk through the woods to the shoreline to view the clam diggers or shorebirds. We pretty much leave you alone in your space. You come to Maine to get away, and we respect that. The cottage sits on a dirt road, about a 1/4 mile off the "tar". Wolfe Neck Woods State Park is about a mile away and offers hiking, biking, and shore walks in summer and cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. It is great jogging and biking around us and, if you are lucky, you will see Joan Benoit-Samuelson (Olympic Marathon Gold Medalist) out on her daily run. We are 4 miles to downtown Freeport and its shopping and 10 miles to downtown Brunswick and Bowdoin College. The Portland Jetport is 25 miles away and is about a 35 minute drive. Bow Street Market offers just about everything with a Maine twist (best wine and liquor selection in the state) and will even cook lobsters for you to pick up. The "Wedding Field" of Wolfe Neck Farm is less than a mile away and this cottage would be a nice location if you are attending a wedding at the Field. There is no public transit near the cottage. Walk to the park or to Wolfe Neck Farm. Otherwise you need a car. In winter, the road can be a little icy, so all wheel drive/4 wheel drive is recommended. In all other seasons, any kind of car works. Many people bring their bikes and enjoy great road biking. LLBean runs great half day and full day "Adventure Tours" including kayaking, paddle board, biking, fly fishing and trap shooting in spring, summer and fall. In winter they shift to cross country skiing and snowshoeing. They also host summer concert and own the 9 hole Freeport Country Club, if you like to golf. We are open all winter and the cottage is well heated. Bring your snowshoes or cross country skis for winter fun. Guest AccessThe cottage stands alone and has its own parking. The SpaceIf you are looking to stay with a Freeport family, in a spectacular New England saltwater farmhouse, featured on a L.L.Bean catalogue, this is your chance. The setting is bucolic, on Maquoit Bay, extraordinary Maine shoreline, kayak and canoe available (weather/season permitting), and only 3.8 miles from Freeport village. Six miles to Brunswick and Bowdoin College. Portland is 25 minute drive. Room price is for one or two (or three, if an infant). We can provide a Graco Pack-n-Play. Lots of farmer's markets. Guest AccessShared, full bath (with one person), kitchen, dining room and (evening only) living room with wood stove. Interaction with GuestsLimited interaction, although available for general questions and directions. We work during the day and then homework at night. Late afternoons and all evenings we are with the children. We can offer some babysitting, if needed. We love babies. (We have pack-n-play if needed). And we always have time to help with directions and basic "what to do's?" The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is rural. Our closet neighbor is 1/4 mile away. There is walking in the woods, along the beach, and up the winding, country drive along the 5 acre field and over to a 600 acre, publicly-owned saltwater farm, Wolfe's Neck Farm, 1 mile away. L.L. Bean's paddle center is close by. A great place to bike. We can give you some loops--to drive, hike, bike--that are sensational. Restaurant suggestions. Getting AroundYou will need a car. There is a train one can catch in town that goes into Portland and Boston, but no public transportation otherwise. Other Things to NoteIf you are looking to stay in a New England, saltwater farmhouse, with a spectacular view, this is for you.

The SpaceFilled with light and natural wood, this home has the simple beauty of a seasonal cottage with all of the luxuries of home. Cozy reading spots, a well-equipped kitchen, and a soaking tub are some of the things we love best. There is also a small woodstove, which is the ultimate cozy-maker on cool Maine mornings & evenings. There is a large full bath downstairs, and a (literal) water closet in the upstairs loft for nighttime convenience. The upstairs bedroom loft has a queen sized bed, and there is a full size (brand new) sleeper sofa downstairs. Since the space is partially open, there is visual but not aural privacy between the two sleeping spaces. We welcome babes in arms and children over the age of 12, but because of the totally un-childproofed nature of our home, we do not recommend bringing young children. It's been our experience that the cottage generally works best for 2-3 guests. Guest AccessGuests have access to miles of hiking trails that are maintained by the Freeport Conservation Trust. There is also a lovely renovated barn which serves as a yoga/meditation studio for those who are so inclined (Yoga and/or dance classes are offered throughout the week). There are a washer and dryer on site. The Cottage is our full-time home, so some drawers and closets contain our things~ however, we'll be sure to leave you plenty of room to unpack and make yourself at home. Interaction with GuestsDuring your stay, we'll be in another house on the property. We will be available should you need anything, and we are happy to recommend our favorite activities and spots. We are friendly, but we respect you privacy. The NeighborhoodThe cottage is located on nearly 200 acres of conservation land, with hiking trails throughout. There is one house within view of the Cottage (see pictures), but otherwise it's a very private spot. Bessie's farmstand is just a short walk down Litchfield Rd., and it's lovely to wander over there in the morning for a piece of freshly made sour cream coffee cake! We are three miles from downtown Freeport and are also close to Brunswick (north) and Portland (south). Freeport is on the ocean, and its central location makes it a perfect choice for your Maine getaway. Getting AroundThe Amtrak Downeaster, which runs from Boston to Brunswick via Portland and Freeport, stops here a couple of times a day. Kayak and bicycle rentals are easily available through Wolfe's Neck Farm and L.L. Bean.

The four bedrooms, four full baths, gourmet kitchen, stone patio, deck, and hot-tub are waiting for you. Even when you are inside, you can enjoy beautiful waterfront views from every window.

The SpaceCan walk to Wolfe Neck State Park, LL Bean Outdoor Kayaking & Adventure Center, Recompense Camping Ground and to the end of our Lower Flying Point - one of the most spectacular views of Southern Maine. Guest AccessWhole house excluding basement Interaction with GuestsWill greet you with keys and help you find what you need in the area or if you prefer, we will give you key box access number and you can be as independent as you like! The NeighborhoodThe "Point" we live on is a special community of artists, writers, retired people and just plain all around great Mainers! The views as you walk down our street are spectacular. You can see both the magnificent sunrises from our side and the orange-scarlet sunsets on the other side of the point. Walking is heavenly in every direction at this end of the Point. A famous Olympic medal-winning runner runs by our house every day! Some suggestions for dining/food shopping (casual) in Freeport: For breakfast, ISABELLA's: (URL HIDDEN) LL Beans has a cafe with good coffee and pastries, and a second restaurant The 1912 cafe with soups, sandwiches and pastries. For the holistically oriented, and with many non-gluten foods, I like Royal River Health Store (which has a little section for coffee and pastries, very warm feeling there)...Another popular one: Old World Deli and Market: (URL HIDDEN) These are all about a 10 minute drive from our place. All in Freeport. But....if you want the real local hangout with all sorts of great stuff, including groceries - it's upscale but also has down to earth real groceries, you must go to BOW STREET MARKET. You'll pass it (always) on your way from Freeport Center to our house. It's very convenient - (URL HIDDEN) closes at 8 pm. It's great. Totally gourmet pastries, coffee, etc. (URL HIDDEN) So many delicacies and takeout foods, great fresh seafood and meats... you'll love it. And it has a section where you can sit down and eat. And then there's a regular supermarket, SHAWS. All in Freeport. I like a new juice/smoothies bar (Peachies) in a little complex in downtown called Freeport Public Market. There's also a great soup place there, and a pizza and crepe place. (URL HIDDEN) Alternately, you can go to Portland, 25 minutes from the house, for some of the most extraordinary culinary adventures in New England. Getting AroundYou'll need a car if you want to drive to town. You can walk to beautiful Wolfe Neck State Park (less than a mile away) where there are trails and food/snacks. It's a biker's paradise too. So many miles of roads and trails! Other Things to NoteYou can walk for miles by the water! There is a full sized bed in 2nd bedroom, and in master a queen bed. The BEST drinking water in Southern Maine from our pure well!

The SpaceYour room is a private, sunny room with a desk and single twin bed. Outside your door is the shared common space-- a comfortable spot to hang, read the paper or watch TV (via Netflix, not cable!). The living room opens up into an open kitchen, which you'd have access to for cooking. The shared bathroom is down the hall from the kitchen. Guest AccessYou can access everywhere downstairs-- including sunny all-season porch, common area, kitchen, bathroom, and an additional living room. There's a large entryway for boots and bikes if you come with any gear. Interaction with GuestsI love this area and I'm excited to share my insights into how to spend your time in Freeport! I try to be available for all your questions, but I'll also give you your space to relax and just enjoy the space. Since I'm often working weekends, I may not be around during the day, but I'm close-by and accessible if you need me. The Neighborhood- Casco Bay YMCA is a 7 minute drive away, with guest access passes - Freeport Conservation Trust provides access to dozens of hiking trails - Quiet roads are perfect for road cycling, and the mountain biking trails of Bradbury State Park are 15 minutes away Getting AroundWalking to the outlets is about a mile-- a 20 minute walk, or a 3 minute drive. Parking is plentiful in town, but more difficult during the busy holiday season. The Amtrak train station in Freeport provides Downeaster service to and from Boston, and it also goes North to Brunswick. If you arrive by train, I'd be happy to coordinate a pickup time! There are no other public transportation options in town. Other Things to NoteWe have a sweet, 12-year-old Corgi named Frodo! He's very easy-going: no chewing, no barking, no household accidents. He'll love you forever if you scratch behind his ears. You won't have any responsibilities for the dog, but he does roam the house and he'll be around. If your experience is enhanced by having a sweet dog around, you will really enjoy Frodo! Additionally, the house is new to AirBnB, which is why you won't find any reviews yet! We think it'll be a wonderful experience, but we'd love to have a traveler be our first guest and help us fine-tune our offering.

The SpaceEnjoy the sights and sounds of a beautiful farm. There are lovely walks about the farm to take, and 30 acres of woods to explore. You can also watch the cows get milked! We are sometimes able to offer a tour, depending on our work schedule. Your fridge will often include a complementary item or two from the farm, such as fresh eggs, cheeses, and produce (when available). You can also purchase items on site. Guest AccessYou can feel free to roam about the farm as you wish. You should be aware that our property is not posted so care should be taken during hunting season. We also ask that you respect the host family's personal space, and please do not enter any building on the farm with a closed door. Most fencing on the farm is electric, so you will need to be wary of that! Sorry, no pets allowed. Interaction with GuestsWe are nearly always around to help with whatever you may need. We are also really great at responding to text messages. Other Things to NoteNo pets allowe. Sorry! This is a working farm! There are definitely late night mooings on occasion and definitely outdoor smells that cannot be avoided as well as tractors running at random times. However, it is a wonderful location, with a very rural feel but just minutes from Freeport Village and 20 minutes to Portland. There is much to do within a short distance, and we are happy to give suggestions!
