I am from Maine and know the area quite well. The NeighborhoodThere is whale watching, golfing, restaurants, light houses, fresh lobster all within 30-45 minutes. I have favorites...just ask Getting AroundClosest city is Damariscotta, 15 minutes away. Here you'll find laundry, bookshops, local crafts, fresh seafood pound, restaurants, groceries and gas Other Things to NoteDogs are allowed, but special attention needs to be paid to the screens as these are our last defense vs. the bugs. They are easy to tear and a pain to repair. Also there are other camps around so keeping the dogs on site and cleaning up all poop is a must.

The SpaceThis is a great mix between a cozy house and a summer cabin. It's an old A frame house that was expanded on one side to accommodate more bedrooms. It has aircon and heat, so we have visitors all year round. The first floor has a master bedroom that overlooks the lake. The living room, dining room, and kitchen areas are in an open concept in the center of the house. The main entrance to the house is a den, which has a comfy futon bed for extra guests, and a partition that can act as a privacy screen/door. To get upstairs we have a steep staircase/ladder. The second floor is great for kids. There are two rooms, you go through the first to get to the second, both with two twin beds. The ceiling is slanted on one side so watch your head! Outside we have a deck on the lake side of the house with table that comfortably seats four people for a meal. There is also a bbq for those that want to maximize time outside. About 10 feet in front of the house there is a dock. Great fishing at the end of the dock! We have three kayaks by the shed that we are happy for guests to use. Try to paddle down the lake and check out the islands at the other end. We often see loons and sometimes even bald eagles nesting! There is a fire pit at the top of the dock. You can get a fire permit from the neighbors next door (it's free) Please only have fires here and put them out with water at the end of the night. We love all the wildlife! But please don't feed the ducks, geese or squirrels as they will pester the neighbors after you leave! Thanks! Guest AccessYou have access the the entire property. We just ask that you are very mindful of our neighbor's yard. They are dear friends and spend a lot of time tending to their beautiful garden. You will see metal stakes in the ground that mark the property line, we are very thankful we don't have a fence and hope you appreciate that too! Interaction with GuestsWe unfortunately live quite far away so won't be able to help in person while you are there, but will be available by phone if anything comes up. Also, since we manage the property from afar, if there is anything out of place, missing, or broken please let us know, we try our best and are thankful when you let us know anything that can be improved or needs fixing. You can also talk to the neighbors next door, Ron and Linda Cyr, who will be happy to help! The NeighborhoodThe house is on a private dirt road that lead to a peninsula and then dead ends into the lake. Please take the slow speed limit to heart as there are a lot of kids around having a great time outdoors. Other Things to NoteWe do not have wifi! And sometimes the cell service can be unreliable. This is a place to unplug! That said, there is internet in Augusta (30 min away) if you get desperate. We have a TV, but no cable. Our water comes directly from the lake. It's OK for cooking and cleaning, but you will need to bring your own drinking water. We aren't up to ADA code, but people in wheelchairs can get into the house. There is a ramp up to the back door and some bars in the bathroom. One of the owners uses a wheelchair so if you are interested in the house let us know and we'll tell you all the details! We realize there aren't pictures of all the rooms at this point, please let us know if you have any questions and we'll try our best to get you the info you need.

Little Thumb sits on the water's edge on Damariscotta Lake, under pine and oak trees. It is surrounded by water on three sides and looks south down the long part of the lake. The cove to East is a favorite feeding place for heron and bald eagles. Dangle your feet off the private dock, and watch ducks paddle by. Let the loons lull you to sleep. We offer weekly rentals during the summer until mid-September. We also offer monthly and extended seasonal stays. This is a seasonal cabin and is not available during the winter months. The kitchen, bathroom, and bedrooms have been totally remodeled. The kitchen has a gas stove, microwave, and center island. The bathroom has a washer and dryer. The living room has a gas fireplace and full views of the lake. There are two bedrooms with blankets, pillows, and quilts provided. Sheets and towels are not included. The cabin sits on an island which is now attached to the East side of Damariscotta Lake by a causeway. A wetland has grown up beside it. There are only about 10 houses and it feels very private. Walk or bike along the dirt roads. Kayak or canoe off the dock. Fish in the cove. Or just relax and enjoy the views. Swimming: We usually can swim right off our dock. But the water off the dock is often too shallow for diving. It is deeper by the swim float. You can swim to the float or paddle there from the dock. We keep two kayaks at the cottage, two paddles, and two life vest. You may bring your own if you are smaller or larger then average. Please let the life vests drip outside before bringing inside. If you wish to rent additional kayaks or a canoe I will be happy to give you information about some places that rent and deliver. There is a sand beach at Damariscotta Lake State Park, 10 minutes from the cottage. There is a sand beach and ocean swimming at Pemaquid Beach in New Harbor, about a 1/2 hr from the cottage. Please bring your own bottled water: The cottage uses the lake water. It is fine for washing up, showers, etc. Please use bottled water for drinking and cooking. Poland Spring has convenient 2.5 gallon jugs with spigots that can fit in the refrigerator. Sheet sizes: We have one queen sized bed and a pair of twins.

Our secluded home has an exceptional south facing, sunny, location right on the lake edge, not set back in the trees as many lake side homes are. You really feel as though you're on the pond even when indoors. Crystal Pond is an amazing spot with nature all around you, hidden coves to explore in the pedalo, turtles and beavers to look out for and fantastic swimming in warm clear water. We love watching the sunsets, listening to the call of the loons or the lapping water on the shore, which are the only sounds you’ll hear in this peaceful setting. Our home has many windows and is light, airy and all the rooms have a view of the lake. It was completely rebuilt in 2009 and the interior is finished to a high standard with modern equipment and furnishings. Come and enjoy this beautiful and tranquil location with your family and friends. Please be aware that changeover day is saturday.

The house is only feet from the water with incredible views of the lake! We have a porch, dock, kayaks, a small beach when the water is low. People love the house because of the coziness, the peace and quiet, and the wildlife (loons!). Great place for couples, solo adventurers, and families (with kids). If we could move here full time we would! Our house is a short drive to Hussey's General Store in case you forgot anything, their motto is 'If we ain't got it, you don't need it!" And it's only 30 min to Augusta. We used to have a property manager that managed our VRBO site so this is a new listing and we don't have any way to get in touch with those that used to stay with us. If you've stayed at our house in the past we would love to be back in touch and would be excited to have you visit again! The Space This is a great mix between a cozy house and a summer cabin. The cottage sits on a 1/2 acre wooded property with path to water, which is about 100 feet from cottage. There is good swimming with a shoreline combination of small rocks, gravel and sand. Also available is a public beach down the road at the boat launch (carry-in only). There is good fishing with a chance to catch brook and brown trout as well as small and large mouth bass. There are pretty views across lake to undeveloped land. Neighbors are shielded from view by foliage. Canoe, picnic table, chairs, gas grill and dock are included. Guest must bring bottled water. Rental dates are Sunday to Sunday. Lake Description: Crystal Lake is approximately 100 acres and has very little development. It is a quiet lake with minimal motor boat activity. Jet skis are banned from the lake and the public access is limited to carry in only. Wildlife includes nesting loons and families of ducks. Bald eagles can be seen occasionally. For anyone interested in fishing, the lake is stocked yearly with brown and brook trout. It also contains plenty of smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, pickerel, yellow perch, and sunfish. Comments from previous renters: I enjoyed your place by Crystal Lake very much. You got me thinking of purchasing my own place by a lake some day. We had a great time! We had a nice sunny week so got a lot of swimming and canoeing in. We had a very peaceful week of swimming, sunning, reading, and writing! Your cabin is perfect. I love this wonderful place. It's peaceful, beautiful, and comfortable. Thanks for you interest: Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

At over 4,000 acres, the lake is large enough and varied enough to please any fisherman, as it has pleased this fisherman for over thirty years. Take your kids, a few worms, and motor down only a couple of minutes from the cabins. Schools of perch feed in the evenings. Small mouth and large mouth bass can be found along the shorelines throughout the lake. If you like to troll, brown trout, lake trout and land-locked salmon hide in the deeper parts of great bay, straight out from the cabins. There are also large yellow perch, catfish and pickerel. Over the years, it's been a pleasure to fish this lake. Come to Sunset Lodge and share the pleasure. -- Don Dougherty Great Swimming: The water is great. Swim off the beautiful new docks or from the shore. Take a morning or evening swim up or down the the lake with its interesting shoreline and eagles flying overhead. The SpaceThe house is next door to our cottage and we recently renovated it extensively in order to have more space for family and friends and to rent. We opened it up to the view and added a large deck and plantar box garden for flowers, herbs, salad greens and tomatoes. The lawn is great for badminton or soccer and the dock is perfect for lounging and reading. The water is shallow so it's not possible to dive from the dock but you can paddle to the swim dock. From late July on, the water has lots of lilies which are gorgeous but some do not like swimming through them. Guest AccessWe have one canoe and one 2-person kayak dedicated to the house and our cottage canoe could be used as well if we're not out on it already! We will access the basement occasionally and work on the garden a bit during your stay. We will be quiet and respectful of your privacy. Interaction with GuestsDuring the summer we are usually available but occasionally travel. There will always be someone available to help though.
