The SpaceThis one-story cottage has 1,048 square feet of living area. The house is nestled in a family neighborhood that is just over 1 mile from the Kennebunk beaches, and 2 miles from downtown Kennebunkport. It provides a wonderful base for your stay in the area.
This house is about a mile away from our home. So while we are nearby for support, you have exclusive use of the house and the yard.
The cottage is an ideal place for a couple or a small family. Our family and friends stay in the cottage when they visit the area. When not used by family/friends, the cottage is available through Airbnb.
The cottage is very clean, with a renovated bathroom, beautiful hardwood floors, and nice furniture.
We have tried to make this a place to relax and "unplug." The rooms are nicely but simply furnished. The cottage is not cluttered with our stuff, so you will feel at home here.
The house has a large, comfortable living room, with an adjoining dining room.
The bathroom was completely renovated in 2013, with new tile, new vanity, new fixtures, and a combined tub/shower with tile all the way to the ceiling. It is immaculate.
The front bedroom has a queen-sized bed. The back bedroom has a full-sized bed; this bed can sleep two children or one adult comfortably.
The back bedroom also has a really nice crib. We know what it is like to travel with a infant/toddler, and the nasty cribs that hotels can provide. Our crib is a beautiful Pottery Barn Kendall fixed-gate crib that we bought new, and our daughter used it until she was 3. It is ideal for your infant or toddler. We have had several guests who are new parents with infants taking their first family vacation together.
The kitchen is vintage 1960's. It is clean and bright, with newly painted cabinets, and a newly installed floor. Our guests have found the availability of a full kitchen to be a real convenience and money-saver. Pots, pans, knives and kitchen tools, plates, flatware, glasses, etc. are all included. Also, pantry staples (salt, pepper, oil, sugar, etc) are on hand. The kitchen has an electric range, an oven, a toaster oven, a small microwave, a refrigerator, and a drip coffee maker. There is no dishwasher, which many guests find charming, but some find annoying.
There is a Weber charcoal grill in the garage that guests are welcome to use.
There is a private 12’ x 16’ deck off the back of the house with a view into the woods. The front of the house has a "farmer's porch," with a nice view of the front yard and our quiet street.
Linens, towels, and toiletries are provided. There is also a hair dryer. The cottage has no washer or dryer. However, there is a full service laundromat in town.
There is a tv in the living room. It has a basic cable hookup, so you have the broadcast network stations available, but not cable-only channels like ESPN. It also has a "Roku" hookup, which gives you access to Netflix. There is wifi at the cottage as well.
For Summer guests, there is a guest pass for beach parking. Beach chairs, beach towels and a cooler are available at the cottage to borrow. For those staying for a full week, there is a 15% discount built in to the weekly price through Airbnb.
For those visiting in the "shoulder" season (May, early June, late September, October), there is seasoned wood for the fireplace, and a nice sturdy screen to put in front of the fire. One of the benefits of this cottage is a pleasant fire in the evening when the weather is cool.
My wife Joanna and I are now in our 4th year of hosting guests at the cottage. We are happy to answer your questions about the area, and to give you our recommendations for local activities and restaurants. We want you to get the best out of your stay here! However, we do not "hover," and will leave you alone after check-in to enjoy the cottage.
We have had a great experience as Airbnb hosts. We have had terrific guests from all over the U.S., Canada and Europe, and received over 70 5-star reviews. Our guests really enjoy the cottage, its quiet neighborhood, and its location convenient to the beach and to town. Guest AccessGuests have access to the entire cottage, the back deck, and the front yard. Interaction with GuestsGuests do not need to coordinate their arrival with me. The side door to the house will be unlocked. We live just about a mile away. Often guests get in touch with me with a text message when they arrive, or if they have a question, or need something. I like to say hello at some point, and am always available for local recommendations. Many quests prefer to be undisturbed, and I am happy to give you complete privacy if that is what you prefer. The NeighborhoodThis residential neighborhood was developed in the early 1960's. It has classic New England architecture, with mostly cape-style and colonial-style homes. Getting AroundKennebunk has Uber car service. Other Things to NoteSafety: We want you to be safe when you stay with us. The cottage is protected by a smoke & carbon monoxide detector. There is a fire extinguisher in the kitchen, and a first aid kit in the bathroom. Emergency phone numbers are posted on the fridge. Hopefully, none of these will be necessary!
