The SpaceThis is our first home and we bought it in June 2015. It's in a great, quiet neighborhood on a quiet side street great for walking. The house has hardwood floors throughout and a bright, beachy feel. The house is 1940's post-war Cape and is about 1500 square feet. The two queen bedrooms and full bath are on the second floor and there's a bonus room with pullout couch and full bath in the basement. The kitchen is fully equipped with anything you might need to make delicious meals or Maine lobsters! We have a back deck with a great patio set and a yard out back , lounge chairs & charcoal grill. NOTE: There is no A/C in the house, we do provide window fans. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the full house with exception of half of the basement where we store our stuff and our washer and dryer, guests will also not have access to the out buildings in the backyard. There's a driveway with room for 1 vehicle and street parking is always an option. Please try and limit total cars to 3 out of respect for our neighbors. Interaction with GuestsWe'll be available and local reachable by cell or text. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is the best! It is a side street and not immediately in downtown. The streets are all small and quiet and you can walk everywhere with sidewalks. On a wooded path at the end of the street to you can walk to Tributary Brewery, one of the best in the country. You can walk into Kittery Foreside in about 15-minutes and hit up The Black Birch for the best food of your life and a nightcap at The Wallingford Dram, a 1920's era speakeasy. There's also Anju Noodle Bar - amazing, creative ramen and pork buns. Rudder's Public House is great for a beer and burger and the game with lots of outside seating overlooking the Naval Shipyard. The best spot to sip away the day is at Lil's fantastic coffee shop with addictively delicious cruellers. There's also our friends' whole animal local butcher shop, MEat, incredible spot for goodies for the grill. A bit further beyond the Foreside, another 10-15 min walk by the water over the bridge or 3 min. drive is downtown Portsmouth with LOTS of stuff to do, see, eat and drink. Kittery also has "Gourmet Alley" along Route 1 - Beach Pea Organic Bakery - everything is epically delicious, Carl's Meat Market for grillables, Golden Harvest for veggies and Terra Cotta Pasta Co. for prepared foods and homemade pastas. There's also the Kittery Outlets about 5 minutes from the house...for those who LOVE to shop. Our favorite place is Kittery Trading Post, we could spend our day and our entire paycheck in there. There's also Rogers Park for walking along Spruce Creek and the amazing Seapoint Beach about 10 minutes drive from the house. Be sure to stop at Chauncey Creek Lobster Pier on your way for fresh from the creek lobsters and BYO everything else - CLASSIC MAINE! They say Kittery is the like the "Brooklyn of Portsmouth" hipper, cooler and more interesting - that's why we bought our house in Kittery! Getting AroundUber is alive and well in Portsmouth/Kittery as well as cabs and it's only about $8-$10 Uber from downtown to our house. Biking is always fun as is walking. Other Things to NoteThis house may not be suitable for elderly guests or those with mobility issues due to the lack of a bathroom on the first floor. There is no A/C, window fans are provided.

The SpaceThis is a beautiful and cozy cape house overlooking a sloping lawn to a tidal creek. Gorgeous every season, including autumn leaf peeping time! The master bedroom and bathroom and laundry are on the first floor. The kitchen opens to the dining room, which has large sliding glass doors to the back deck (two levels). The living room is comfortable, including a new futon which folds out into a double bed. The second floor looks down on the dining room. One of the rooms is open in this space, with day bed and trundle. The other two rooms each have a single bed. Guest AccessYou will be able to access the entire house except for one locked bedroom. This includes a gas grill on the back deck. You are welcome to use our bicycles and boogie boards stored in the basement, as well as house canoe, kayak, paddles, and life jackets. There is a lock box on the door with the key in it, so late arrivals are no problem. Check it is usually at 3:00 pm unless I can accommodate earlier arrival. Checkout is at 11:00 am. Interaction with GuestsA family friend who lives locally will be a contact, if needed. You will be able to text me or call at any time if you have questions. The NeighborhoodOur home is in a family neighborhood on a side road near two beautiful public beaches. Our neighbors are friendly and most are full time residents They appreciate quiet at night, especially as many have young children. Getting AroundYou will probably want a car to get into town, unless you are avid cyclists. However, two local beaches are in short biking distance, and there is tidal creek access in our back yard. Fort Foster and Chauncey Creek Lobster Pier are less than a mile away, so walking and biking are a wonderful option. See further detailed information about beaches, parks, and other activities below: BEACHES and PARKS Fort Foster- This is a wonderful park for children, adults, families, individuals. There are beaches, paths, playgrounds, picnic areas, forts to climb, a long pier, and beautiful views. The gate to the fort is 0.85 miles away. Take a left out our driveway, a right onto Pocahontas, and drive straight. The gate usually opens at 10:00 am, sometimes earlier in the summer and on weekends. Before this, you can usually park outside the gate and walk in to the beaches. The walk is about 1/3 a mile. Or you can drive in during park hours. The cost is $10 per car, or $5 per person ($1 per child) walking or biking (these rates may not be accurate, but close). Sea Point Beach and Crescent Beach - 1.7 miles to the parking lot, although non-residents park 0.1 - 0.2 closer (parking areas are marked, or park on the side of the road before that). These are two adjacent beaches which are generally quiet, with mild surf, very soft sand, and a grassy and rocky walking area at the point where the two beaches meet. A great bike ride (a couple of gradual and persistent hills). No costs for this beach, no public facilities. York Beach - Long Sands and Short Sands - Great spot for families. Large beaches, many people, more surf, life guards, food, souvenir shops, restaurants. Nubble Light House is in between the two beaches and worth the trip. Right near the light house is Dunne’s Ice Cream (used to be the famous Brown’s Ice Cream). Short Sands is just beyond Long Sands, and also has a playground, basketball nets, more parking, home made salt water taffy made before your very eyes, and the Arcade and Bowling Alley. Fort McLary - another park at the site of a former WWI military fort. This Park, about two miles on the left if you head back toward Kittery Circle on 103, is smaller. There are a couple of areas to climb and beautiful views, but no easy beach access. Odiorne State Park and Seacoast Science Center in Rye, NH (just south of Portsmouth on rte 1A) are worth a visit, especially if you have interested children. EXPLORE PORTSMOUTH - Great restaurants and shopping, but also a wide selection of entertainment, including plays, live music, theater and music in the Prescott Park. Look into (URL HIDDEN) for a lot more information. KITTERY OUTLETS - If you want to shop, take a left out of our driveway, a left onto Pocahontas, a left over the bridge, a left onto Chauncey Creek Rd, a left onto 103, and then take a right onto Haley Rd, just across from the gas station (and right before the fire station). Stay on that windy road for about 3 miles until you reach a light, which is route one. Most of the shopping is to your right. Other Things to NoteYou can use any food in the kitchen unless it is labeled otherwise, but please check dates on items if you do choose to use our staples. Please discard leftover food you have, unless you think it would be useful for the next visitors. Please do not smoke anywhere on this property. The trash is in the closet to the left of the fridge. Mixed recycling is to the left of that. Trash pick up is on Tuesdays at 7:00 am. There is poison ivy at the edges of the yard. If you are playing in the yard, wear long pants and socks and wash afterwards. There is none immediately surrounding the driveway, deck, or path to the water. We have never had anyone find a tick after being at our house, but it is an endemic area, so a tick check at the end of the day might be helpful as a precaution. The seventh sleeping accommodation is listed as a couch (not a sofa bed), so it does not convert to a bed, but is long enough and comfortable enough for most adults to sleep on.

The SpaceWe are very grateful to live in this beautiful place on the Maine coast and we would love share it with you. Our home: Very peaceful, casual, eclectic home, of two Creative’s (one professional guitarist/composer and one part-time painter/full time lover of color and all things design. We are both art, music and natural health enthusiasts. Our Maine beach house is filled with art, color, antiques, and yard sale finds and overlooks 2 beautiful beaches, Rachel Carson protected marshland, and Isle of Shoals. Because the marsh is protected habitat for Great Blue Heron and other wildlife it is illegal to walk on it but the beach is just 3 minute walk on a small back road. It is very casual here, please feel free to hang out in pjs or robes provided while you have coffee or tea on the deck. Your space: Vast marsh to ocean views from your private, large, open concept living/dining room (we have our own separate living room, eating area, etc.) and your deck space which is accessed via slider in your living room. There is a comfy couch, armoire with board games, high top dining table, coffee maker with supplies, tea, small fridge with chilled filtered water, yoga area for one, Bose CD player with iPhone connection and various books. Your large bedroom with king bed is 1/2 flight up. Your private bath not ensuite but just steps way; we provide spa robes for easy access as well as chem free shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion. The view here is always changing, from the colors on the marsh and estuary, the occasional great blue heron, or red tail hawk, to the surf, and the clouds. It is a great place to re-charge, re-fresh and re-connect with yourself or your honey. Amenities: Available for use: 2 spa bathrobes Bath towels and wash clothes, chem free shampoo, conditioner, lotion Cooler- just ask 2 Beach chairs, and 2 beach towels Use of deck accessed from your living room via a slider, overlooking marsh and 2 beaches, Large sun umbrella in your deck area Oscillating fan, though there is usually a lovely breeze off of the water at night so it's rarely necessary. Air conditioner in bedroom for the hottest days. Ask us and we will install vent if you find it too hot. You do lose the cross breeze and hearing the ocean and the birds with the air conditioner installed. Other bedroom windows MUST be closed when AC is on. Our water is filtered at the kitchen faucet, and fluoride free naturally Breakfast provisions provided: *organic tea and coffee, we have a drip coffee maker that has a timer so that you can prepare and set the night before if you like, just ask me and I will show you how, very easy. *homemade kombucha, if you're interested let me know! *organic white sugar, raw honey, or stevia *fresh peppermint or orange mint for water or tea, in season *dairy creme and almond milk *local farm eggs- feel free to use the kitchen :) *fruit *fresh herbs for your eggs in season: chives & basil on the deck If there's something you need or you run out of coffee or tea or other supples, just let us know please :) Guest AccessIn addition to your bathroom and your bedroom and living/dining room, you will have access to the deck outside your living room and the shared kitchen. We respect your privacy and will not come into your space unless necessary or invited and ask that you do the same for us. **Having said that we are very mindful of conservation so if you leave the AC on with windows open or when you're not home we will come in to turn it off. Interaction with GuestsWe are here often but not always, and are very available should you have questions, texting is the best means of communicating but if texting's not your thing we can make a plan B. Our living area is pretty separate from yours, and other than the shared areas, you can have as little or as much privacy as you want. There is a door between the kitchen and your living room that you can leave open or close for more privacy. I may close the door if I'm cooking to spare you the noise, I can be a loud cook! You have access to your area of the deck from your living room via a slider. We also have our own separate seating area on the deck so there are times we may be on the deck at the same time. We love to chat if you do, but if not that's fine too :) Either way, the deck is a really nice place to have coffee or tea in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening, as is the beach! The NeighborhoodNearby: We are actually on an island that is connected by a small bridge, Cutts Island. The estuary, marshlands (Rachel Carson protected areas) and ocean are on one side and Rachel Carson Wildlife Sanctuary is on the other so there are lots of wonderful views. The islands you can see past Crescent Beach are the Isle of Shoals. There is a marine lab on one (Appledore), a fishing community, and a retreat (Star). Within short walking distance: Beach access 3 minutes, go right at end of driveway. Hiking trails in Rachel Carson protected area, go left out of driveway. 5 minute walk to the small bridge. You’ll see a sign and a public bathroom to the right. If you follow the trails in eventually you will come to a very beautiful opening into Brave Boat Harbor. Because you will be in the woods I would suggest bug spray. We have some DEET free spray if you don't have any on hand. Chauncey Creek- open air seafood restaurant with cooked to order lobster, byob, byo salads, sides and dessert, easy walking distance but parking available as well. 1 mile from house, left out of driveway. Seapoint Road turns into Chauncey Creek road. Fort Foster State Park: grills, bathrooms, several small beaches, large fishing pier, grassy areas, parking available as well ($20/car all day). Take left out of the driveway, go around the big S curve and take your next left across a larger bridge, tae right at end of bridge, follow road until the end (not far) and you will come to the gate for Fort Foster. Getting AroundParking for 2 cars. Beach is 3 minute walk. Other Things to NoteWe are open, friendly and open minded. We love to meet new people, we are fairly well traveled and love to interact with lots of different kinds of folks. We, of course, welcome people of all backgrounds regardless of ethinicity or orientation because we believe in love & respect for all humankind, and for our planet. We love our home in this beautiful place and we love sharing it with you. Please relax, make yourself at home, and enjoy :)
