The SpaceCome and enjoy the charming Great Brook Cottage located approximately ten minutes from Sunday River Ski Resort, ten minutes from Bethel and four miles away from the Grafton Notch State Park. It has two small bedrooms, a loft which we use as a sleeping den (our kids' favorite place), cozy living and dining areas. It is tastefully (that's what our guests say) furnished for year round enjoyment. It also has an over-sized back porch with charcoal grill and a fire pit. Ski at Sunday River, Mt. Abram, or Black Mountain of Maine, until you can't walk any longer, then come back and sit by the fire in the large, beautiful, stone fireplace in the center of the cottage, built with stones from the Great Brook. We supply the firewood, stacked on the front porch, and more in the shed. Snow shoe on the property or head towards any of the mountains for a challenging adventure. One of our favorite places is Rt. 113 in Gilead (20-minute drive from the house), which is closed for traffic in Winter. Enjoy the completely frozen world alongside the Wild River. In early Spring, listen to the Great Brook, which runs from the Puzzle Mountain, and occasionally breaks through the ice. Fish for rainbow or brook trout in the Bear river a short walk away. Summer is a great time for kayaking or canoeing on the Androscoggin river and the Umbagog lake, mountain biking and hiking as well as golfing at the Sunday River resort. Our house is located on the Scenic Byway (State Rt. 26) which connects with the New Hampshire Scenic Byway and passes through Grafton Notch State Park. The Bear River parallels the road for much of the way. Enjoy spectacular scenery and foliage viewing; stop by for a short hike to Screw Auger Falls and Mother Walker Falls. So much to do, welcome to the Great Brook Cottage!

The SpaceThis rustic and simple one-room cabin was built around 1902 and was used as a fishing camp. We've taken it out of the deep woods and relocated it where it now overlooks the south side of our 12 acre pond. It is now outfitted with electricity, wood stove and there is ample kitchen and counter space with propane stove and double sink. As of this summer there is running drinking water in the cabin now and a hot water heater! A sweet little outdoor shower out back is for your pleasure as well. The driveway is 2.6 miles long and is a maintained but sometimes pretty rugged dirt road. Four-wheel drive is not necessary in the summer time. There is an outhouse about 125 ft or so from the cabin. Shower and flush toilets are available in my house, which is just down the lane (about 200ft away). There is also an outdoor shower behind the cabin now too! The pond is great for swimming and boating. We have a flat bottomed row boat and canoe for you to use while you're here. An aqua-zip line is available for those with a sense of adventure. Please take note that we allow fly fishing only with barbless hooks. A small market garden and greenhouse are in operation nearby and there are three other houses on our part of the mountain, all on our property. It is never very busy or loud, but there may, once in a while, be other people enjoying the pond, beach and boa I do just want to mention that the cabin is deep in the woods up a mountain, and hosts all the wilds have to offer. You may have glimpses of moose and mouse, frogs and flies; by the nature of living here we play host to them all. In the interest of full disclosure, I want you to know so that you are aware that critters are here in our area and sometimes in our living spaces. Just about everyone has embraced them so far but some who have not ventured in the woods before have become surprised to see a mouse which made them uncomfortable to be around. Please be the judge on this for your own creature comfort! WINTER IN THE CABIN You will need to keep your own fire in the wood stove going to keep the cabin cozy. I can provide instruction if you are unfamiliar. Water is provided in two 4 gal jugs for washing up and will need to be heated on the stove or in the electric kettle. If you need more, you can refil the jugs in my house. Please think of staying here as a rustic, off-the-beaten path retreat. Winter driving experience on icy and snowy roads is a plus as the conditions and weather varies considerably! 4-wheel drive is a must in the winter. This piece of Earth is a beautiful place for people to relax and play, and that is why I'd like to share this space with you. Come for a weekend, or come for a while. Guest AccessGuests have unlimited access to our 12 acre pond and may use our canoes, kayaks, diving board, aqua zipline and rope swing. All at their own risk and enjoyment! Taking the the hiking trail to the ledge overlook is awesome too. Guests may use the screened in porch in my house for a place to get out of the cabin and the rain. Interaction with GuestsGuests will be greeted upon arrival and we are usually around somewhere on the land and are a phone call away. I have had guests who keep to themselves during their whole stay and others who have become fast friends through hanging out at campfires, hikes and dinner together.

The SpaceSpacious farmhouse on 18 acres of land Close to lakes and ponds Close to 3 ski areas (15 miles from Sunday River Ski Resort, 9 miles from Mt. Abram Family Ski Resort, and 16 miles from Black Mountain of Maine) Close to Bethel Village for fine dining, entertainment and historic sites of interest Direct access to snowmobile trails Skiing, X-Country and downhill, Hiking, Snowshoeing, Ice Fishing Sleeps 9-13 (6 beds with additional air mattresses and cribs) 2 1/2 baths Large kitchen with dishwasher, microwave Large great room with wood burning stove Play loft with plenty of games and toys for kids Washer and Dryer Wireless Internet Access Off-season pricing available Non-smoking house Guest AccessGuests at the Farmhouse have access to the first and second floors of the property as well as all of the grounds. Guests are also welcome to use the snow shoes located in the Airlock in the driveway (the entrance to the property). The woods behind the house are beautiful and are not 'posted' (with no trespassing signs) so you are welcome to walk through them. If you are lucky enough to arrive during snowy times, the experience is sublime. Interaction with GuestsNone, other than to say, if you are an artist, poet or photographer and wish to sketch, paint or otherwise represent this place, we'd love to hang your work! The NeighborhoodAs we searched for a family vacation home, back in 2002, we were interested in getting our family away from the city. We live in East Boston, an extremely urban, densely populated neighborhood. We also wanted to get away from sprawl. We were looking for an area which offered a true change of pace. Chris was fascinated by the history of Connected Farmhouses and wanted to preserve one. In the Farmhouse at Rumford Corner we found a large connected farmhouse on an active farm, in an active farming area. Visiting the farmhouse, we get to see the all of the local fields in agricultural use, we have access to rural traditions such as Public Suppers, local fairs, country people and a wonderful slow placed culture. Getting AroundMost of your travel will be by car -to get to local pedestrian and hiking attractions, but the area's great for biking and a local snow mobile trail passes through our fields and connects to the regional ones. Other Things to NoteThere are few places were you can hear complete silence or see a nighttime sky so deep black. Stay up late enough and you'll get 10 - 15 minute stretches without a sound and can get a glimpse of what agrarian life was like 217 years ago when the first settlers of this region of Maine moved here and began to build this homestead.

The SpaceCome enjoy our western Maine mountain home overlooking the Sunday River valley and the amazing Sunday River ski runs! Only 10 minutes from the historic Bethel town and shopping district and the Gould Academy boarding school campus. Our chalet can sleep 13 in beds - especially if your group is a couple families. Some of our twin beds are in a room with a queen-sized bed so this works well for parents and a child or two. You can also choose to have children or singles take the recreation room that has three twin beds and a pair of twin mattresses on the floor. We have plenty of towels, blankets, pillows and sheets to keep everyone cozy, clean and warm! Whether it is Spring, Summer, Fall or glorious Winter our home is a relaxing get-away! The house sits on a sloped lot of 2 acres half-way up Mt. Will and is surrounded by hiking and snow-shoe trails that are accessible right outside our door! The master bedroom looks out onto our expansive deck and mountain view and has the 8-person hot tub just a few brisk steps outside of the sliding door! Please note that we have an extra charge for commissioning the hot tub in the spring & summer months. In the fall & winter, the hot tub is always ... well, hot! We love company and so do our two sons - that's why we have placed lots of comfy beds throughout our home. Each of the four bedrooms has a queen-sized bed. Two of these bedrooms also has a twin bed and an extra twin mattress that can be pulled out for slumber parties! In our basement, we have a recreation room with a pool table, air hockey table, darts & dart board and three more twin beds! We have three full bathrooms with hooks and towel racks a plenty! As you enter into our first floor - off of the double garage - you will find yourself in a large mud room complete with ski racks and boot/glove driers to make tomorrow's ski day just as great as today's! There is a laundry room for additional drying capabilities should the weather require it! There is a gourmet kitchen fully stocked with all of the pots and pans and serving pieces you will need. We have place settings for well over 14 people. Our large, rustic tree-slab table seats at least 8 comfortably and the counter seats another 4 people. After dinner, turn on the gas fireplace ... adjust the mood lighting and enjoy the peace and quiet of lovely Mt. Will! A fun past-time on winter nights is to count the snow-cats climbing and descending the many ski runs which are visible from our front view. If you are up for a more lively evening, we have satellite TV with two places to watch and several options for playing music scattered throughout the house. Still not lively enough - take a short drive down the road to see what is happening at the Matterhorn Ski Bar or the Black Diamond Restaurant & Bar. This place is also quite special in the non-ski-season times as well. We thoroughly enjoy the crisp fall days with the beautiful foliage and chilly nights. There are many renown golf courses within a 10 mile radius and lots of terrific hikes and river recreation activities. The Sunday River resort also has numerous activities planned throughout the year so check out their calendar as well! What are you waiting for? Come visit us. Guest AccessThe entire home will be accessible ... from the two car garage to the gourmet kitchen, living spaces, recreation room and beyond. Interaction with GuestsThis is our second home which we stay at throughout the year to enjoy the wonderful recreation and beautiful scenery. Because we love our home, we hope you will too and we will try to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. We will not be in the area if you are renting, but we are just a phone call away if you have any questions. The NeighborhoodThe Peaks development is a collection of unique and beautiful mountain homes whose views look out over Sunday River valley and the slopes of the Sunday River ski resort. There are walking and snow-shoeing trails throughout the neighborhood and we have several well-known golf courses located within a 10 mile radius. Getting AroundThere is access to the Mountain Explorer - the area shuttle bus; you will need to walk down the hill to the nearest stop (about a mile). This shuttle runs during the winter ski-season and makes regular trips to both the Sunday River ski resort and the town of Bethel. Other Things to NoteIt is wise to have an all-wheel drive vehicle in the winter since the home is on the side of a mountain and the weather conditions can change rapidly. Our driveway is plowed and sanded regularly, but it is quite steep.

I may be available to hire for private yoga classes during your stay. Could also arrange for massages while you are here, with a wonderful therapist! The NeighborhoodSuper quiet - No visible neighbors. Walk, bike, hike or ski right from the door. Yet town is just a 10 minute drive, with plenty to do - see Guidebook Getting AroundIs lovely and low key. Walk, bike, hike, ski or drive - traffic free! During ski season, there is a bus that frequents town if you want to take it up to Sunday River, rather than dealing with parking, etc. Other Things to NotePlease thoroughly read all sections of the Airbnb site, to help answer your questions. The house Is off-the-grid, which requires a bit more mindfulness, but it has all the creature comforts of home - including a wide sky for star gazing, weather watching, sunsets, and moonrises. Although I offer a FLEXIBLE check-in time, I do ask that you make a realistic assessment of your ETA allowing for traffic, especially on Fridays coming up from the south, as someone (either myself or a friend) will be greeting you and going over house stuff... thanks!

One of our favorite places is Rt. 113 in Gilead (20-minute drive from the house), which is closed for traffic in Winter. Enjoy the completely frozen world alongside the Wild River. The SpaceThis is the first chalet ever built at Sunday River. It's vintage and very cool, but we wouldn't describe it as modern. It's ideal for kids and/or two families. There is one living room, a kitchen, dining room, bunk room (with two bunks that are 3-high) and a loft with a king bed and two twin beds. The kitchen is equipped with dishes, pots, pans, silverware, etc. There is a three burner cook top and a convection oven, but regular no oven. There's a fridge and freezer too. The living room has a TV and DVD player but no cable TV. There is also no wi-fi or Internet connection at the house, but you can always get it at the base lodges and at the Brookside Recreation Center too. Our guests have use of the Brookside Recreation Center's heated outdoor pool and enormous hot tub. There's also a rec room there with a TV/cable and wi-fi access. The loft is accessed by a steep set of stairs - kind of a cross between a ladder and stairs. All beds come with sheets and blankets/or sleeping bags (in the bunkroom). There are plenty of towels in the bathroom too. The bath has one shower, no tub. We don't normally allow pets, but might make exceptions for one very well behaved dog. Best part - the chalet is the closest to Barker Mountain Lodge. It's an easy walk to the trails from here. Hit the first chair then come on home for lunch and then back out on to the slopes. Guest AccessThis rental includes the entire home. Interaction with GuestsOwners live about an hour away and can be available if there's anything at all that's needed. Also, the owners will be on hand to show guests around when they arrive. The NeighborhoodThe chalet is located in Viking Village on the Barker Lodge Access Road. Getting AroundThere is a trolley that operates throughout Sunday River and can drop off right next to the chalet upon request. Other Things to NoteThere's no public transportation to the chalet. You'll need a car.

The SpaceThis camp is a wonderful retreat that we have enjoyed for almost 21 years. It is on a pristine lake that is very quiet and clean. Our camp, although small, is very well equipped. The kitchen (not eat in) is small but beautiful with granite and stainless steel appliances. There is a dish washer. The view from the front windows is spectacular. There is a flat screen tv and tv's in 2 of the bedrooms (not that you'll even want to watch them!) There is a washer and dryer. We use lake water for showering, laundry and dish washer. We buy bottled water to drink. We have a gas grill and a fire pit. There is a dock. PLEASE NOTE!!! THE TERRAIN IS LUMPY BUMPY ROCKY. It adds to the charm but is relatively tricky to navigate especially in the dark. We have parking for 2 cars. Guest AccessGuests will have access to everything except locked cabinet in upstairs bedroom, locked entry under camp and cabinet above washer and dryer in bathroom. There will be some of our personal belongings left in camp but will be kept to a minimum. Interaction with GuestsI will be available for guests...most likely minutes away. The NeighborhoodSmall lake community 15 minutes from a town and grocery stores. Awesome for the nature lover and hiker Getting AroundNo public transportation. Don't even think you can get an Uber up here! There is parking for 2 cars max Other Things to NoteWe pump in lake water to the camp. Sometimes the pump is finicky but we are ALWAYS able to make it behave. We have a holding tank for water usage. So All shower, dishwater, laundry, toilet water go into the tank and we have it pumped frequently. We are VERY conservative with the water. For example we don't leave faucets on while we brush our teeth and we don't always flush after #1 in the toilet. We run the washer and dish washer sparingly. We use a lot of plastic ware sad paper plates. There is, however, plenty of dishes to use.

Less than ten percent of the property - or only 6% of the original 8,700 acres of land - will be utilized for private development uses, the overwhelming majority of the land will be preserved in perpetuity for both private and public use. Each homesite at Great Brook Preserve directly borders hundreds of acres of unspoiled conservation land. Owners have direct access to miles of hiking, snowmobiling, and cross-country ski trails just out their back door. The remaining acreage has been donated to the Western Maine Mountains Foundation land trust for permanent preservation. Great Brook Preserve is purpose-built for year-round outdoor enthusiasts and places a high value on saving the forests and mountain landscape that make the region so special.
