Looking out from the guest room window, you'll see nothing but historic houses, an old church and the Fore River. The Stroudwater neighborhood is unique in Portland in the age of its homes and the amount of land they are situated on. This neighborhood is minutes from downtown Portland, the airport, and both 95 and 295. A bus stop is located a quarter mile away and biking into town is doable. Driving is recommended. Two minutes from airport There is one full bathroom located between the two bedrooms, so if privacy is important, there's an additional half bath downstairs. Please note that we have a young, love bug of a Boston Terrier with lots of energy. Just FYI, the fire alarm is sensitive. It goes off if: -the master bedroom door is cracked open during a steamy shower so the steam all blows past the alarm, so either close the door or keep it wide open. -something is burned in the kitchen All the alarms are tied together including the studio, so if they do go off from some reason, please do a quick check and then hush the alarm that you think set off all the others. The SpaceThis space is a bedroom that has one queen sized bed and shares a bathroom with a studio apartment next door. The door to the room has a lock on it. Bathroom: The full bathroom is shared with the adjoining studio apartment (also for rent on Airbnb). The bathroom is “Jack and Jill” style, which means that there are two doors. This allows for guests in both rooms to access the bathroom without having to enter “public” space. Both doors have locks on them. Please remember to unlock both doors when you leave the bathroom so as not to lock the other guests out! There is a also powder room below the stairs for all guests' (website hidden): The TV is connected to an over-the-air antennae and receives many local stations. There is also a Roku connects to it where you can find many free channels or to Amazon to rent a movie. You can also log into your own Netflix. To log out of it, you will need to choose “Option” and “Delete Channel”. Mini Kitchen - The room also has an arm chair, a small fold-down table for coffee or laptops, a mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker, tea kettle and toaster. Coffee, coffee filters and tea, sugar and cream are provided. There are also a few wine glasses, coffee mugs, spoons, forks, paper plates and a cork screw / bottle opener available for your use. Hair Dryer: You will find a hair dryer in one of the drawers below the TV. Storage Space: You may use the drawers below the TV as well as the closet behind the arm chair. There should be several hangers in there for your use. If you need more, please let us know. Linens & Towels: The sheets on the bed are clean and there should be clean towels in your room for you use. There are a few blankets in the closet should you need them. Tourist Info: Tons of brochures and maps are in one of the drawers below the coffee maker as well. Feel free to take and / or leave what you want. Temperature control: In the summer months, an air conditioner is installed in the window for your use. In early autumn, we leave a small space heater that you should feel free to use. Once the weather has turned cold enough to get the radiant heat system cranked up, the room should be quite cozy. If it is too stuffy, please feel free to crack the window for your comfort. Please close it before leaving as the thermostat is right outside of your room and it might cause the heater to work over time. Parking - Depending on the season, we have different parking arrangements for our guests. Most of the year, we are happy to share our driveway with guests. During extremely snowy/ icy months (January and February), we cannot allow people to use our driveway as it is too dangerous for them and their vehicles. If this is the case, we will do our best to help you find parking. During the summer, (July and August) renters in the guest room will be given a key card to park at the parking garage at the end of our street. It is located next to the Westin Hotel. The card gives you entrance and exit any time. You may park anywhere there is not a "reserved" sign. All Guests agree to indemnify and hold the Property Owners harmless from any liability for personal injury or property damage sustained by Guest or parties invited onto the property by Guest. Guest AccessYou will have access to your room without going through our family's space. An electronic lock with a code gives you access to our house. There is a lock on the guest room doors. Guests in this room share a large bathroom with guests in our studio apartment. All guests also have access to a powder room on the first floor. We send detailed check-in/ entry instructions to all guests before their arrival, so if you arrive after 8pm or we are not available to answer the door, you will be able to let yourself in. If you have any questions, you will have our phone numbers and you are welcome to call and / or text us. We have also compiled a blog with information about our house and neighborhood and recommendations for eating and activities which will be sent to guests upon confirmation. The NeighborhoodOur street is beautifully tree lined, friendly and in an historic district. We are walking distance to many great eateries and drinkeries (how is that for a new word?) We are also very close to several music venues and walking distance from the Old Port. The SpaceEnjoy this private 2nd floor bedroom in a cozy West End home. The room sleeps 1-2 people. The house is a classic 150 year-old Greek Rival with all of the charm of yesteryear (wood floors, great molding, clapboard siding), updated with the modern conveniences of today (yay for indoor plumbing!). Your room has a queen bed, desk, settee, bookshelf, air conditioner, and TV (with Netflix access) for you to use. There is a shared bathroom, kitchen and dining room on the 1st floor. You will love meeting our sweet rescue dogs, Tyson and Kotay. They are very people and kid-friendly dogs who are quiet and respectful of guests. Guests are offered 1 off-street parking space. I also have two bikes (and helmets) for guest to use during your stay. Bikes are a great way to get around the city quickly. Note that the house has two bedrooms, both available on Airbnb. This means there may be other guests sharing the common areas (bath, kitchen, and dining rooms) with you during your stay. I think you will find this to be a fun place where you will meet some really awesome people! Guest AccessOff street parking, two bicycles, kitchen, washer and dryer Interaction with GuestsI chat with guests as much or as little as they prefer. I usually try to meet folks at check-in and give them any recommendations they may need. If you are around after dinner I'll inquire about your adventures during the day. Tyson and Kotay (the dogs) may greet and sniff you when you come in. The NeighborhoodThe West End is very close to everything the city has to offer. You will love the walk into the Old Port, lined with classic Victorian architecture. Enjoy the green space on the Western Promenade, or head to Victoria Mansion, Aurora Provisions, and Outliers Restaurant. You will love this clean, quiet and safe neighborhood. Getting AroundThe public bus stops less than a block from the house. You can walk or bike to most things in 5-15 minutes. The bus station is a 5 minute drive from the house. The airport is 15 minutes away by car/taxi. Off and on-street parking available. Other Things to NoteThis host is kid friendly, LBGTQ friendly, first-time Airbnb guest friendly, and just plain friendly. There are some stairs, a little on the steep side. Please keep this in mind if you have trouble with knees/balance.

The SpaceThis luxurious condo fits two comfortably, and 3 if you are friendly. Beautiful honey colored woodwork and the southern exposure light make this a veritable tree house. This condo is located directly across from Deering Oaks park and the Saturday Outdoor Summer Farmer's Market. There is a little store across the street for emergency items, like good ice cream, wine, or ice. I keep the place pristine by asking that shoes be taken off before entering, as well as no smoking or pets, please. This condo is best suited for adult guests. There is a private bedroom with a double bed and a swing couch with a full-sized custom made Maine Mattress company mattress. If more privacy is preferred, a double air mattress could be placed in the office. The rooms are private, but open windows at the tops of the doors keep air (and sound - be advised) flowing through the space. It's Maine - I do not have an air conditioner. I have window and ceiling fans, and the sea breezes in Portland keep the place very pleasant during summer nights. Guest Access- Wifi - Non smoking property, including all private and common areas - Composting, recycling and trash programs on premises - Washer and dryer in the basement (coin op) - A private outdoor common patio is available, or walk 1 block to the beautiful Deering Oaks Park. - 4th floor facing south with 15 large windows. - Be aware you'll get a great leg and glute workout as there is no elevator. - On-street parking (watch out for street cleaning Tuesday overnight into Wednesday nights, as well as Thursday midday. It's well signed) - Be aware of parking bans if you are here in a snow storm. - My condo is pet-free Interaction with GuestsSometimes I am away, but sometimes next door while you stay in my home. I may pop in if I forget something (unlikely), but I'd call first. If you don't mind overlapping your stay a little bit with me, I'd be happy to show you around. If I am not around, my friendly manager will be available to help you in any way. I also have lovely neighbors. You can always call me, and I will be checking my e-mail on a daily basis. I'll leave some Portland Buy Local directories, maps and a current Portland magazine on the dining room table. The NeighborhoodParkside is a very pretty, colorful and varied neighborhood with historic homes, as well as newer ones. The architecture is gorgeous, especially if you go up the hill and walk along Deering st. It is a very cheerful and diverse group of neighbors, and as you walk, you may hear Spanish, French, Kirundi, and many other languages. We have been called the most diverse community in Maine! If you go up to Congress st and turn left (east), you'll come to Longfellow Square with great restaurants right there: Local 188 (tapas, bar, dinner, brunch), Pai Men Miyake (noodle house), OLF (bar), King of the Roll (sushi), Boda (bar, late night Thai yumminess) and One Longfellow Square (great entertainment). Turn right and you'll find the cozy and secret Bramhall Pub (under the Roma Cafe sign, down the stairs and through the curtains) or go down the hill to Salvage BBQ (also amazing food and great music if you hit the right night). And that's just Parkside. You have all of Portland to discover. Let's chat and I'll fill you in on where to go! Getting AroundMany buses run along Park ave, 1 block from the front door, one going directly to and from the airport. Otherwise, its a $10 taxi fare to the airport, $5 to the Concord bus station, and Greyhound station is a 10 minute walk westwards down the Congress st hill. There is on-street parking. Please be careful of the street cleaning nights/days - make sure you move your car, or Portland will do it for you. If you can bring your bike - do! You can keep it in the basement or lock it in the courtyard. Other Things to NoteThe Summer/Fall Saturday Farmers Market in Deering Oaks Park just down the hill (7am -1pm) is not to be missed. There's also one on Wednesdays 9am -1pm in Monument square (about 10 minutes walk east on Congress st at the top of the hill). In winter it's in East Bayside in the Urban Farm Fermentory building. The Museum of Fine Arts is on Congress and High sts. And First Fridays there is an Art Walk and all the galleries are open!

There is no need to contact us prior to booking for availability questions. Sorry no pets allowed. We are a cooking family and our kitchen is in near constant use. The kitchen is the first room you see when entering our house and you should not expect it to appear spotless. As a family we have a relaxed attitude about OUR living areas. There are 20 steps involved to get from the first floor up to the room which is on the second floor. If you have trouble with steps this room is probably not for you. If you are not going to be able to check-in earlier than 9 p.m. please book with another host, sorry no exceptions. The TV is attached to a Roku player only. Netflix is provided. No cable or satellite TV is provided. We have had a few complaints that we have a claw foot tub but no shower so if you plan on staying with us keep in mind that there is NOT a shower. All children (including babies) count as people, so 1 parent plus a child would be 2 guests. You will be provided a key so that you may come and go at will during your stay. You must always use the back door which is adjacent to the driveway where your packing spot is located on the right hand side of the driveway. One of the images in the listing shows both where you should park and the house entrance. PLEASE fill out the Airbnb Profile, include a picture and tell us about yourself. The SpaceOur home is spacious with three floors of finished living space and a fenced in backyard we've been working hard on the past couple of summers! Your room is private and simply furnished with a queen size bed with tempurpedic mattress and closet & bureau for unpacking. Upstairs has one full, shared bathroom and there is a half bathroom on the first floor. You'll find pamphlets and information on some of our favorite spots in the city, and we're always happy to make suggestions. Bedding and linens will always be fresh and complimentary toiletries are provided. Guest AccessAll common areas (fully equipped kitchen, living room, back yard with patio, fire pit and grill). Please feel welcome to use the kitchen for a meal! We just ask that you let us know ahead of time so we can plan our own meal preparation accordingly. Interaction with GuestsWe're available as much or as little as you like! We love our city and would love to share insight on great local spots, or even join you for a beer if that's what you're looking for! But if you're looking for a quiet vacation to get away; we don't mind keeping to ourselves. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is safe, quiet, and very convenient to the heart of the city (under 4 miles). Our home is best suited for those traveling with a car, or planning on using a bike/uber/taxi to get in town. We're walking distance to a local market, coffee shop, cafe, parks, and playgrounds but the real city sights are a drive away. We're 30-45 minutes from Sebago Lake and 15 from the closest beaches and Fort Williams Park, home of Portland Head Light. Portland has numerous scenic and wooded walking trails, the closest access just down the road from us. Getting AroundFor those traveling with cars there is ample free, on street parking right in front of the house. For those without cars we are close to a bus line, a $15 or less taxi/uber ride from just about anywhere within the city you could want to go, and an easy bike ride to downtown. Bikes can be rented at the train station for $20/day. Other Things to NoteWe have one super sweet but sometimes shy, 2 year old, 60 lb pooch; Zoe. This is a great place to stay if you are a dog lover and/or aren't traveling with your own pup and want some dog-lovin'. If you are just "okay" with dogs this might not be the best spot for you. She WILL greet you at the door and at some point you WILL get licked. Not our favorite trait, but haven't found a way to deter her yet! She is a guardian breed mix, so while she isn't obnoxious, she will bark when you arrive and does make noise if she thinks squirrels or UPS men are trying to break into her house. She's more or less the cutest security guard ever. We are happy to provide fresh coffee, tea, and breakfast pastries (homemade as often as possible!) but ask that you let us know if you'll be looking for breakfast so we can prepare accordingly and avoid waste as much as possible. Portland has so many wonderful restaurants we find that many guests have a full eating agenda when they visit that we certainly don't want to get in the way of!

The SpaceThe studio apartment: The studio is located on the second floor. (17 stairs from 1st to 2nd floor.) It has a private entrance that allows for guests to enter and exit the house without going to the living space of the owners. The room can accommodate up to 6 people but I would say 4+kids would be more comfortable. The apartment is one room that includes a queen sized bed, a loft queen sized bed above that one (which requires climbing a short ladder), a futon that opens up to a full bed, a kitchenette and a dining table. It shares a full bathroom with another rented private room. There is another half bath on the first floor that can be used by all guests. It is also accessible without entering the family's living space. The house: - The house is "brownstone" style. There are 11 steps from the sidewalk to the front door. This is a bright, sunny room with a lot of windows. It overlooks the front, tree-lined street. ! We also have second listing in this property that is for a private room. We are happy to try to accommodate last minute bookings and late arrivals. Contact us to see what we can do! Noise: - The studio is located in our home where we live with our six year old daughter. She is well behaved (and we are not just saying that!), but she is a little kid. We do have a second rental on the same floor. Quiet hours are between 10pm and 7am. We cannot, however, be held responsible for the time the sea gulls get up! The full bathroom - It is fully renovated and spacious. It is a "Jack n Jill" between your studio and the other rental (a private room). Each room has a door into the bathroom, so you do not need to go into the hall to enter it. It is only a shared bathroom if the other room is rented as we do not use this bathroom. We have also put in an on demand hot water system, so there is always plenty for everyone! Half bathroom - On the first floor, just under the stairs there is another half bathroom that you can use. All Guests agree to indemnify and hold the Property Owners harmless from any liability for personal injury or property damage sustained by Guest or parties invited onto the property by Guest. Guest AccessThe studio apartment is accessed through a shared front door which has an electronic lock so no key is necessary. (Guests are asked to keep this door locked at all times) Guests will get to rental spaces through common hallway and staircase, but never have to enter into the living space of our family. We have no time restrictions for comings and goings, but we do have quiet hours from 10pm and 7am. Parking - Depending on the season, we have different parking arrangements for our guests. Most of the year, we are happy to share our driveway with guests. During extremely snowy/ icy months (January and February), we cannot allow people to use our driveway as it is too dangerous for them and their vehicles. Interaction with GuestsWe love to meet our guests to get to know them a bit and show them to their room, so please ring the door bell when you arrive. We also realize that travel plans can change and so we also have made it very easy for guests to let themselves in when we are not available. We are very happy to answer any questions you have about Portland and the house. Guests are given our phone numbers and can also knock on our door to get in touch with us. The NeighborhoodLocation: We are located on Deering Street - a registered historic district. The property itself is a Queen Anne Victorian built in 1876. We have fully renovated the house. We are located 1 block from Longfellow Square - the beginning of the Arts District. Since we are right in the central area of the peninsula you can walk to Portland's great restaurants, bars, cafes and old port. Getting AroundOur house is within walking distance from the Arts District and the Old Port. A bike shop directly behind our house rents bikes and helmets for around $25 / day. A city bus stop is located a block away. A shared car through U-haul services is parked two blocks away. Other Things to Note- There are 11 stairs to the front door, 17 stairs from front door to studio. - All linens and towels are provided - Children are always welcome. We even have a Pack N Play you can use! -Wifi included -Shared full bath -We do not provide breakfast but with all the amazing brunch places in walking distance you will be very happy! We highly suggest Hot Suppa right around the corner! You also have a full kitchenette with all appliances including a coffee maker and coffee

The SpacePlease note: *The 2nd bedroom is not available during cold months as it doesn't have a separate heater. This cheerful and bright private apartment is located in an urban, central Portland neighborhood between the West End & Libbytown ~ Close to fantastic restaurants, shops, galleries, cafes, walking trails & beaches plus only a 7 minute drive to the airport and a 5 minute walk to either the train or bus station. Ample (free) parking and super easy to zip in and out of town or cross town, avoiding traffic because it's very near to I-295. But have no fear, you cannot see or hear the highway from inside the apartment and even the main street that it's located on calms WAY down at night, offering a restful stay. The Arts District/Downtown is less than 1 mile away & the Old Port is just beyond that about another 3/4 mile. The building is a 1900 New England colonial with some modern & whimsical flair. The apartment is one of only 2 units in the building. Both are used as vacation rentals. This unit is on the 2nd floor and should be noted that it's accessed by a somewhat narrow staircase (should limited mobility be an issue). My home is the house next door so if you need advice on what to explore or have any other questions feel free to call on me. The apartment has 1 bedroom with a double bed, a separate living/dining area and 1 bonus room w/a twin bed (not available during cold weather months). There is also a fully equipped kitchen with new appliances, a large flat screen tv with Netflix and cable, a full (yet small) bathroom with a cute claw foot tub/shower combo (very Maine), a funky little tree house looking enclosed 3 season porch off the kitchen, and outside is a small patio with seating & tiki torches. There is ample, free on-street parking. * With no offense to smokers, this is a NON-smoking property ~ strictly enforced. Thanks so much! Guest AccessAccess to entire apartment & garden space with seating, fire pit & tiki torches. Getting Around~5 min. cab ride to the Old Port ~Nearby bike shop rent for $25/day (exploring Portland & its surroundings by bike is GREAT) or I have bikes to rent for $10/day. ~Ample free parking @ apartment ~Downtown easily accessible by foot if you enjoy a good walk (my personal recommendation) ~Bus stop a few feet away

The SpaceCozy, inviting and spacious private apartment: There is 1 bedroom with a comfy double platform bed, a living/dining area with a sofa bed that opens to a queen with memory foam mattress and 1 bonus room with a new twin bed. So in all there is sleeping space for 5. The apartment also has new appliances in a fully equipped kitchen if you prefer to forego the AMAZING cuisine of Portland and cook a cozy meal in your apartment. The bathroom has a small claw foot tub/shower combo (so very Maine). Ample, free on-street parking. * This is a non-smoking building, strictly enforced. *Well behaved non-shedding, hypoallergenic dog welcome for an additional $10 per night collected at time of check in. All pets must be pre-approved. Guest AccessYou will have your own private apartment, accessed through the rear entrance. And feel free to use the garden area with an outdoor table, tiki torches, fire pit and seating. ~ but no smoking please. Interaction with GuestsAs little or as much as you like! The NeighborhoodThe Valley is an eclectic neighborhood where you can find Bunker Brewery, Salvage bbq & live music & the Sea Dogs stadium. Its a mixed residential/business neighborhood within a 15 min. walk you can get to downtown/the arts district, the newly fab. Thompson's point offering riverside summer concerts & winter ice skating with beer hut & fire pit along with a fancy winery, brewery, food trucks and more! Deering Oaks park, THE HOLY DONUT & Tandem Bakery are also a 15 min. walk away. Zip on and off I-295 to beaches, Freeport etc. but not to worry, you cannot see or hear the highway from the apartment. :) Located 3/4 of a mile from the Arts District and 1 mile beyond that to the Old Port via Downtown. Easily drive, taxi, bus or (my favorite) walk or bike... I highly recommend exploring Portland & the nearby beaches via bike. Getting AroundDriving is easy in Portland and especially from this apartment but if you would like an alternative, There is a bus stop a few feet away that will have you downtown in 5 minutes. There is a nearby bike shop that rents for $25/day or a $7 cab ride or Uber will have you in the Old Port in a flash. I also have bikes to rent for $10/day And then there's my personal favorite means of transportation: Walking!...a 15 minute walk can land you in the Arts District, another 10 you'll be in downtown and another 5 you'll be in the Old Port. Other Things to NoteNo offense to smokers but this is a completely smoke-free property.

The SpaceI'm a creative professional and am offering room in my large light, clean, and art filled home on Portland's artsy and eclectic East End. Close to restaurants, neighborhood market, and coffee shop. You can stay for a night, a week or more. You can smell the ocean with a minute's walk to the beach or great walking / bike paths. I offer a lovely guest bedroom that sleeps two on a new bed, and could accommodate another individual at $40 extra per night in another private room, if need be. A clean dresser and closet await your things and there is wifi and Direct T.V. (in the living room) included. The bathroom is shared and fresh towels and bed linens are provided to use. The room you'll enjoy boasts large, sunny (optional) windows with a view of the garden, good for enjoying a glass of wine or peaceful cup of tea or coffee. The apartment is only a few steps away from Portland's gorgeous Eastern Promenade, overlooking Casco Bay and its islands. Walk into town to enjoy award winning restaurants, ferries to the islands and the old port. Great neighborhood restaurants, bakery and coffee shops nearby. I have a binder full of suggested eateries and activities, chock full of my personal favorites for you to choose from. There is easy on-street parking. You can pick up a bus into downtown a block away, and switch at Monument Square for a bus to the airport. A taxi downtown will cost around $5, and a ride out to the airport will be about $20. On weekday stays, you may meet my sweet nine year old boy. You will NOT, however, be bothered by any noise or disruption from him. We provide fruit, muffins or scones, granola, yogurt and tea or coffee in the morning. If you'd like to use the kitchen otherwise, please ask. We will do our best to accommodate. Enjoy your stay! The SpaceSunny, 2-windowed smallish room (9' x 10', not counting closet) on 2nd floor of a private home built in 1910. Bathroom (with a shower/tub) shared with other guests. Fresh sheets and towels, always. This is an older home (built in 1910), but the floors are newly (12/2016) refinished, and the place looks sparkling. Original art, old prints, books, and a few nicer antique furniture pieces... what I think New England is all about. I highly recommend potential guests purview the photos of the place: Most describe my place as exactly what I advertised, but some feel the place is a bit too old for their tastes. I collect the required 9% Maine sales tax on what I receive upon your arrival. Latest check-in is 9:30 p.m., unless special arrangements are made. Once you're checked in, you're free to come and go as you like, so long as you're quiet if you come back late after a night out on the town. I serve a light breakfast of coffee or tea, fruit, and cereal. I'm grateful for those who don't shower after 10 p.m. It's a matter of noise and bustle. Sales Tax: As required by Maine law, I collect the 9% hotelier's sales tax upon arrival. Guest AccessI will personally greet you and get you settled and oriented to Portland and the Greater Portland area. I keep maps around and I'm native to Maine and know it well. Interaction with GuestsI love interacting with guests, but I leave it up to them to set the pace. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is a nice quiet residential area next to the Univ. of So. Maine, half-way between the downtown and the bus/train station. It takes about 5 minutes to drive to the train station, and about 5 to drive to downtown. It is about a 30 minute walk to downtown. There is a wonderful 3 mile walk around the Back Bay boulevard. Trader Joes, Hannaford Grocery, and Whole Foods are very nearby. Getting AroundPublic transportation is available in two spots nearby. It is reasonably good. Portland is very walkable, however, and I find walking about as quick as waiting for a bus--at least to get downtown central. I'm also happy to pick you up at the train or bus station--if I can. Taxis can be gotten easily with a call, and there are at least 2 shops in town that rent bicycles. Other Things to NoteI do have a cat, in case you are very allergic to cats, although the cat is not allowed in guest bedrooms.

The Space2017 will be my 4th year as an Airbnb host. Great experience. This small (9' x 8') but tidy bedroom is on the second floor of a wonderful 1910 white stucco home--an anomaly in Portland. You'd be upstairs, where the only other person there would be me, or other airbnb guests. Fresh sheets & towels, always. This is an older home (built in 1910), but floors in guest areas newly refinished (12/2016) and the space is sparkling. There's plenty of books, original art, and some nicer older antiques, and the place is eclectic. Some appreciate that, others would prefer something a little more modern. I highly recommend potential guests to view the photos of the place: Most describe my place as exactly what I advertised. As required by Maine law, I collect the 9% hotelier's sales tax upon arrival. Guest AccessI will personally greet you, and hope you will be considerate about informing me of your arrival time, since I do have other jobs. Once you're checked in, you're free to come and go as you like, although, again, I ask guests not to shower after 10 p.m., as other guests, or I, may be sleeping. Interaction with GuestsI really enjoy meeting and interacting with my guests, but I let them set the pace. The NeighborhoodThe home is about a 30-min. walk or 5 -min. drive to the Old Port, Portland's historic downtown area. Best, I'm just 3 minutes from the freeway entrance/exit, but I don't hear the freeway noise. The Oakdale neighborhood is full of single and 2-family homes, and abuts the University of Southern Maine (Portland campus). Hannaford's Grocery, Trader Joe's, and Whole Foods are within a 5-10 minute walk. Getting AroundTwo bus lines run on major streets a block away--either direction. Portland is very walkable and there are bike lanes all over the place. There are several bike rental places in town. Taxis are easy to get with a call (they don't roam the streets, as in NYC.) Other Things to NoteDownstairs is rented to permanent tenants--older, mature professionals who value having a quiet and well-maintained place. You may run into them as you come and go.

The SpaceFlying Circus is a 39'ft by 20'ft sailing catamaran. She is very spacious and is located on a dock in the heart of Portland. The facility is Portland Yacht Services with gated access to the dock. Parking is at marina located at boat. Most guest walk into the city for convenience. Guest AccessThe boat and marina bathroom facilities. Interaction with GuestsI do give an overview of the facilities with each new guest. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is an eclectic group of people that love living on the water during the summer months. We are located off of the Portland trails that winds through the waterfront and back bay. While the boat is docked at Portland Yacht Services, they only provide security and manage the docks. I am responsible for any accommodations you might need and I will direct you to parking in the permit area. The boat is on the ocean so it will move depending on wind direction and time of year. The fall is more unsettled so plan accordingly. Also Maine is very tidal so the dock can get steep twice a day. Most everyone find the boat and environment "amazing" but if you have limited mobility there will be more challenges and risk. Let me know if you have any concerns before you visit. Getting AroundWalking, biking, taxi, public bus, Near by train and Airport. Portland trails goes right through the marina and is a great bike, walk, run, skate trail. It allows access to greater Portland and the waterfront. Other Things to NoteFor only $110.00 dollars more you and your guest will get an 1 1/2 hour private sailing cruise of Portland Harbor and surrounding islands. So a two weekend night stay and a private sailing cruise will cost only $648.00 total for up to four people. If you are interested in a day or overnight sailing charters contact me directly.

The SpaceOur home is a new townhouse that was constructed in 2013. It is spacious and full of natural light. Cool breezes circulate all summer. It is located on a very quiet, tree-lined street and is right near a small playground and park. Two blocks away is the expansive Eastern Promenade, with ample walking trails, grassy space to laze about, and several athletic fields. At its base lies the East End Beach, which is a perfect place to go for a swim or to wander about at sunrise or sunset. The room is on the second floor and is located at the opposite end from our bedroom. There is a full closet, ironing board, bookshelf, fan, radio and a very comfortable queen-size bed. It gets beautiful morning light but if you'd prefer to sleep in there are blackout curtains hanging to cover both windows. Guests have their own half-bath and the shower is shared. The new washer and dryer are next to the bathroom. We provide towels and also detergent in case you need to wash your clothes after an adventuresome day. There is a kitchen and living room downstairs; please do not plan on cooking at our home but feel free to use the refrigerator to store whatever you like. The dining table is wonderful for eating, completing work, and planning the day. There is also outdoor seating on our porch for you to watch the world go by from a nice height. Guest AccessWhile you are here, our house is your house. Please let us know what will make your stay comfortable and we will try as best we can to provide it, especially if you let us know in advance. Interaction with GuestsWe see ourselves as guides to help you get the most out of your stay, even if it is just for one night. Friends and family are visiting regularly, so we are well-versed in providing advice on what to do or see in and around Portland. We live here because we love the area and want you to see it for all that it has to offer. We can point you in the direction of whatever suites your fancy – a charming bar, a local lake for a swim or the best restaurants at any price point. We are in and out of the house and both fairly busy so we are not really the type to intrude on your space or time. Nora, our non-shedding goldendoodle puppy revels in being around visitors and may politely ask for some belly rubs. You are in no way obligated to spend time with her, but she is difficult to resist. Overall, we want to be supportive in helping you get what you want out of your trip and provide you with a space to call home for the duration of your stay. The NeighborhoodWe live on Munjoy Hill, which is also sometimes referred to as the East End. It was recently voted the best neighborhood to live in by the local paper and for good reason: there are numerous walking trails, quiet streets, diverse architecture, elegant restaurants, thoughtfully-stocked boutiques, relaxed coffee shops, locally-owned grocers, and accessibility to the ocean. The best happy hour deal in town and produce store in the city are both two blocks from our residence. For the more actively-minded, there is quite a lot to do on and near Munjoy Hill. The paths that originate here connect to others in the region, making it a perfect starting point for a run or bike trip. The paths go out to the Gilsland Farm and Mackworth Island to the north and the Back Cove loop to the west. If you want to get on the water, it is possible to rent kayaks at the base of the prom, or take a sailing lesson. A popular kayak destination is the abandoned Fort Gorges – a fortification built in 1812 that is now overgrown with lush vegetation. We have croquet and bocce if you’d like to get a game going on the Prom and beach towels in case you want to go for a refreshing ocean swim at the East End Beach. If you want to adventure out further, the ferry terminal for all of the islands in Casco Bay is a 10-minute walk away. If you’d prefer a more relaxed pace, the Eastern Prom is also perfect for laying down and watching the clouds slowly drift by. Munjoy Hill is comprised of a maze of beautiful quiet streets with a mix of old and new architecture, which are perfect for wandering and daydreaming. Getting AroundIt would be very easy to spend an entire trip just on the hill given all that it has to offer. If you do want to venture into the center of the city, it is only a 15-minute walk to downtown and then another 15 minutes to the opposite side of the peninsula, the regal West End (from end to end, it is only two miles). Portland is very small and walkable; we commonly walk to and from restaurants on the other side of town, particularly because it is possible to walk directly along the ocean to get into and out of downtown. There is also ample parking throughout the city, including free parking in front of our home. There are several bus stops on the hill that can take you across town or even to South Portland. Other Things to NoteOur puppy gets along with everyone really well but doesn't really understand yet how to interact with very young children. For that reason we will not be able to accommodate travelers with young children at this time.

A comfortable room in a house located near the arts district, many restaurants, cafes, bars and interesting shops. It is a short and fun walk to the Old Port. This space is a bedroom that has one queen sized bed and shares a bathroom with a studio apartment next door. There is a also powder room below the stairs that all guests are welcome to use. TV: The TV is connected to an over-the-air antennae and receives many local stations. Parking: We do have space for parking in our driveway available on a first come first served basis. Guests who park in the driveway are required to leave their key with us so anyone parked in the driveway can move cars as needed. There may be other guests whose cars will need to be moved.
