The NeighborhoodThe natural beauty and wealth of outdoor treasures of Maine's Rangeley Lakes Region long have lured visitors. Abnaki Indians set up hunting and fishing camps alongside the area's 111 lakes and ponds. They were followed by well-to-do "flatlanders" (anyone from south of New Hampshire) who, around the time of the Civil War, were drawn to the Region by the same outdoor activities that had attracted the Abnakis. Today, the Rangeley Lakes Region continues to draw vacationers seeking a year-round playground. Its setting, recreational opportunities, and other attributes also have gained wider recognition. Rand McNally included the area -- along with major cities, popular national parks, and other much larger, better-known destinations -- on its list of "best vacation places in America." The tiny town of Rangeley, with 1,200 permanent residents, is perched at the center of this enticing vacation region. The little village captures the quaint nostalgia of a Norman Rockwell painting. Main Street is lined by single-story frame buildings that house shops, a handful of restaurants, and a small movie theater. No stop lights interrupt the sparse flow of traffic, much of it cars with a canoe on top and huge trucks groaning beneath loads of fresh-cut logs. Nearby Oquossoc (Indian for "landing place") is even smaller. Perched between Rangeley and Mooselookmeguntic Lakes, it is home to three restaurants, a small grocery store, a fishing and sports shop, a marina, post office, and folks who really like the quiet. This picture-postcard scene varies little throughout the year. Yet each season in the Rangeley Lakes Region offers its own choice of activities for which the landscape and lakes provide a perfect setting. Fishing is what helped bring Rangeley to the attention of the outside world; and anglers who test their skill and luck, especially in the spring and fall, soon learn why. Around the turn of the century, these were the best-known native brook trout waters in the world, yielding giants so huge that visitors had trouble believing they were brookies. Later, stocked landlocked salmon took hold and joined trout as a choice catch. Today's visitor may pursue the descendants of lunker trout and salmon that have made the Region a fishing mecca, particularly for fly casting. Hikers follow trails that criss-cross the woods. Others prefer the stretch of the Maine-to-Georgia Appalachian Trail that passes within nine miles of Rangeley. Mountain bikes enable even inexperienced peddlers to traverse country roads that follow the rolling hills, while steeper mountains challenge the most seasoned expert. The Mingo Springs Golf Course is played and praised by duffers and low handicappers alike. It is known as one of the most scenic layouts in all of New England, with Saddleback Mountain rising to the east and meandering lakes stretching as far as the eye can see to the west. Those who prefer water to dry land take to the Rangeley chain of lakes in canoes, sail and power boats, and old-fashioned Rangeley boats -- unique wooden crafts that were built specifically for local lake travel. In recent years, windsurf sails have joined in, taking advantage of breezes that blow down onto the lake waters from the surrounding mountains. Fall gives Mother Nature an opportunity to put on her most dazzling Technicolor display. Splashes of vivid reds, flaming oranges, and a full rainbow of colors are set off by the blue lake waters. Fall also demonstrates why the Rangeley Lakes Region is popular with hunters. Trophy white-tail deer and bear are abundant. Small game flourishes in fields and forests. Ruffed grouse are among game birds that take flight at the sound of an approaching footstep. Those interested in close encounters with wildlife also have plenty of opportunities. Early morning canoeists on the Kennebago River look for deer, osprey, beaver, otter, mink, and the gigantic moose. Another good bet for meeting moose is during a dawn or dusk drive out of town on Route 16. Winter in Rangeley is synonymous with some of the best snowmobiling anywhere. A 150-mile network of clearly marked, well-groomed trails interconnects with other systems that lead throughout Maine and into Canada. A season-long calendar of races, festivals, and other special events attracts snowmobile enthusiasts from near and far. For up-to-date conditions December through April, call the Snowmobile Trail Condition Hotline. Skiing is also first rate. Saddleback remains the last uncrowded big mountain ski experience in New England. The 4,116-foot high peak boasts 40 Alpine trails and plenty of lift capacity. Top-to-bottom snowmaking augments over 200 inches of annual snowfall to keep slopes open and active from November into April. For a current trail-condition report, call the Saddleback Sno-Phone. Cross-country skiers may follow nearly 25 km of trails through rolling woodlands at Saddleback Ski Area or enjoy the meticulously-groomed and tracked 75-km Rangeley Lakes Cross Country Ski Trail System located just outside of Rangeley Village, maintained by the Rangeley Lakes Cross-Country Ski Club. More adventurous ski tour participants prefer to venture off along the network of logging roads and other side trails that lace the surrounding woods. Getting AroundYou will need transportation to get to Eagle's Rest. Other Things to NotePlease see information sheet located in kitchen for all house details. One week minimum stay required from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Summer weeks and Christmas week are only rented by the full week-no partial weeks without negotiation with owners first.

The SpaceGreat lakefront log cabin on the shore of Mooselookmeguntic Lake. Queen bed in the master, twin bunk in the other room. Large yard, flat lawn at the lake, sandy bottom swimming area. Bald Mountain is in the back yard (easy 1.3 mile hike to incredible views of the Rangeley Lakes area). Close to shopping, restaurants and activities for the kids. The best part is that you can listen to the water lapping the shore and loons singing. The bathroom and kitchen were redone a few years ago. Linens are provided. You are responsible for leaving the cabin clean and ready for the next guests (cleaning supplies provided). We rent Saturday 2pm to Saturday 10am only. No split weeks. No pets, please. You'll have the use of our kayaks and canoes and can rent motor boats or take water skiing lessons nearby. The Rangeley Lakes region is famous for hunting, fishing, hiking and all type of outdoor recreation. We love it there and hope that you will love it, too! There is wi-fi access, but no TV. Bring a good book and enjoy a week without screen time. You'll enjoy the break. Guest AccessThe yard, the lake, kayaks, canoe, water toys and the great outdoors. We love to share our beautiful neck of the woods. Interaction with GuestsAs much or as little as you would like. This property shares the waterfront with the main house. You might encounter your hostess reading a book in a chair out front. Feel free to pull up a chair and hear stories about the area or sit by yourself and enjoy the lake, we're not picky. You should always feel comfortable using the entire yard. Please don't be shy. The NeighborhoodWe are a typical lakefront setting. You can see and hear other camps from our camp. That said, Mooselookmeguntic is a very quiet lake, with few boats. The neighborhood is generally quiet. Jet skis are not allowed on Mooselookmeguntic Lake. Other Things to NoteWe are often asked is this is a good place to bring kids. It is an awesome place to bring older kids (over 5), but it is tough for the little kids. The reason for this is because we have a dock and not a beach. Families with little kids often prefer a beach.

The Space2 bedrooms, 2 full baths. 3 couches & 1 pull-out Ottoman: all long enough for a 6 ft person to sleep. One couch is a 1 pull-out firm full click clack-style in front living area -This is also where there are extra linens, 1 pull-out twin ottoman in separate room adjoining a bedroom. Open kitchen w/ 3 living areas, long trestle table (10 p.). Two wood stoves with 2 heat monitors and electric baseboard heat as well. We have an outside wrap-around deck around the whole front of the house, along with 2 separate decks on each side of house. We don't shovel the decks in winter. There is the owner's apartment that is private and located under house, we are rarely ever there if a guest is in the house. We will not intrude or come into your space. Kitchen offers an electric stove with an abundant amount All Clad cookware, every utensil you need, and just about every spice, there may be some food items that will be in the fridge, such as condiments. I do put milk, Orange Juice and some cream in the fridge for you to use. You can use what you need or ignore them. Both yards have beautiful grass bushes and trees surrounding the property. fruit trees, Wild Maine blueberries (during late July and August) bushes in each meadow. Driveway is rather steep, just fine for even our "Smart car" to make it up! This yard is incredibly private, it's so enjoyable to take advantage of that feature. So lay in the Sun stretch on the deck and watch the Eagles soar by! There are 3 eagles who regularly fly over the house every day. There are two Eaglets that look like large crows who often fly with Mom. Guest AccessThe entire upstairs level of the house is available, the decks, yards and all the rooms on your level. The downstairs laundry and massage room as well. We do have deeded rights to the HOLA Association located about a quarter of a mile towards town (Burr Rd.) from the property. It's a park-like environment with boats, canoes and kayaks docked, a roped-off swimming area and floating dock. There's also public access to the town dock and park that is located just about 2 miles away. A small fire pit on side of house with chairs for sitting out by the fire in the storage shed. Buy your own wood or check out or scavenge our woods. Interaction with GuestsOccasionally, I am there during someones stay if you have questions I'd be happy to help. Don't hesitate to call me on my cell or knock on my door on the ground level. If you prefer I can arrange no interaction, we may never be there when you are at the house, but if we are we will try to be "Stealth"...We have an apartment in the basement, we try to only be there briefly after your departure/arrival for one night or two. The place/space is yours to enjoy and we will respect your privacy or lend a hand if we are there. The SpaceClose your eyes and imagine this: You get up in the morning and walk out onto the over-sized, screened in porch. You should definitely walk quietly and slowly because there is a better than average chance that you'll catch the first glimpse of a moose or a deer casually strolling by looking for their breakfast. You then come back inside and begin to prepare a proper vacation style breakfast for the whole family. As the enticing aromas overtake the senses of those still sleeping, they'll automatically arise to make their way to a beautifully set breakfast table. After breakfast, it's time to start the day by taking a few short step down to the lake where a multitude loons, ducks and many other of nature's friendly creatures await your arrival. This is when it gets really fun! Walk out on to one of the 4 shared docks or take a quick paddle out to an onsite mooring, jump in your boat and make an almost instantaneous escape out to the middle of Rangeley Lake or your favorite secret spot for some of the very best fishing that Maine has to offer. Then, after a successful day of fishing and relaxing by the lake, you can come home and have a good old fashioned charcoal barbecue dinner and cook your catch to perfection at a pit located either right out in front of your cabin or down by the lake at the waters edge. After dinner we recommend a sunset moose watching excursion that is mere minutes away, perhaps even at the top of the driveway, or put on your favorite worn sweatshirt, grab the marshmallows, graham crackers and Hershey bars to make s'mores that just seem to taste that much better in Rangeley. Then, at night when you go to sleep in one of the two extremely comfortable bedrooms, we recommend that you leave the blinds slightly angled so from your bed you can look up to view the blanket of stars visible above you. Don't forget to also leave the windows slightly open to hear the enchanting call of the loon bidding you goodnight. Finally, after you experience one of the most restful nights of sleep you have ever had, the only thing you have to do next is get up and do it all over again! Welcome home. You've just experienced a spectacular day on Rangeley Lake. This is what Dobecaritogus at Niboban is all about! There are 2 bedrooms on the upper level that offer a king size bed in one room and 2 twin beds in the other. The twins may also be made up as a king if you prefer. King bedding is available for you in the closet. The 3rd bedroom area is on the lower level with one set of twin bunks. A bureau is provided in each bedroom as well as a peg rack so you can keep your favorite sweatshirt close at hand. Sheets and towels are provided. The kitchen is fully applianced right down to the Keurig coffee maker! You won't even realize your away from home because it's so well stocked! We even have an assortment of spices available in case you forgot your favorites. No Smoking on premises. No pets permitted. Guest AccessThis rental is a private 2 plus bedroom, 1 bath cabin with washer and dryer on over 45 shared acres of gorgeous grounds right on the pristine, south shore of Rangeley Lake.
