The SpaceEnjoy uninterrupted peace and quiet on the Maine coast in this sweet, rustic cabin perfect for artists, writers, or anyone else wanting to unplug and unwind for a few days or weeks. This charming cabin, built in 1982, is situated only 50 feet from the water's edge, and, with only one house visible through the woods, it is difficult to find a more private location than this. The cabin is of rustic design, with one private bedroom and single common area that includes a kitchenette, eat-in table, couch, and TV (no cable though). Above the common area is a loft with a double bed mattress, accessible by a wooden ladder. Off the common area is an enclosed composting toilet. There is no shower so all washing up must be done in the bath tub. There is no internet or telephone connection. The small wood stove is no longer functional, but three portable electric heaters are kept permanently in the cabin for any chilly Maine nights. Such simple living is certainly not for everyone, but can be a tremendous treat for those interested in enjoying this beautiful natural setting. The cabin looks over a salt river (Back River) which is part of the ocean but looks more like a river/lake due to the protection of Barter's Island across the water. The cove that the cabin sits on is tidal, which means that half the time you are looking at the ocean and half the time it is a natural mud flat. So the view changes every 6 hours! To enjoy the water to its fullest when the tide is up, a double kayak may be rented from the property owners at a very reasonable rate. The cabin is located 5 minutes drive from lovely Boothbay Harbor, a stunning destination for travelers of all kinds. Enjoy fine local seafood, kayaking, whale watching, sunset sailing trips, and the charming downtown with its quaint shops. There are also many beautiful walking trails through the Boothbay Region Land Trust, along with one of the world's finest botanical gardens at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, located only 2 miles from the cabin. The owners of the cabin live on the adjacent property so any questions or concerns can be immediately addressed.

Serendipity is your perfect Maine getaway – a cottage by the water, on an island, yet reachable by car. Located on Montsweag Bay, it is surrounded by the Sheepscot River to the East and both Back River and the Sasanoa Rivers to the West, all of which are tidal salt water. Westport Island is a quiet and picture perfect small Maine community of about 800 year round residents. It was originally known as Jeremy Squam and noted to have flourished in the early 1800`s as a fishing and farming community; one of the most prosperous in Maine. Today it is home to a broad cross-section of residents from families who have lived there for generations to new residents and retirees who are proud to call Westport Island home. The owners of this three bedroom, 2 bath cottage have thought of everything to make your vacation memorable. From comfortable seating in the living room and on the deck to a "mosquito-proof" screened gazebo at the water’s edge where you can enjoy the views, a glass of wine, or a meal without the addition of Maine`s "unofficial State bird." There is a dock and float from which you can swim, fish or launch either the kayak and canoe that are there for your enjoyment, a means to explore this wonderful area. Don`t be surprised to find eagles flying overhead or a Great Blue Heron fishing there at low tide. The Squire Tarbox Inn is a restaurant of local renown that serves dinner to the public and is just a short distance away. In the town of Wiscasset one can stop by for one of Red`s Eats famous lobster rolls, stop by Sarah's for soup and sandwich, or do some shopping or antiquing. Boothbay Harbor is only a short drive to the East and LL Bean in Freeport is to the West. Go to the Maine State Musical Theater for a summer show or visit the state Capitol and buildings in Augusta (North of Wiscasset). There is a lot to see and do and we have been told by our guests that they find themselves saying "We have to come back next year, there was not enough time to do everything we wanted." The SpaceRelax in our riverside cottage... A classic Maine camp turned family run bed & breakfast, our riverside retreat is a collection of small buildings that we have restored and updated over the past 7 years. Many of the original items are integrated into the design of the buildings. We live in a quiet rural area in midcoast Maine, but are close to Rt. 1 and the towns of Wiscasset, Boothbay Harbor and Damariscotta... however, when you are down by the river you really do feel like you are a world away. Our family home is close by on the property... just about 250 feet up a sloping hill, but again - when you are down by the river, your focus is drawn to the water and everything else seems to disappear. We can currently accommodate a maximum of four adults during a given stay. The rate is based on a two person occupancy with an additional charge of $100 per person up to the aforementioned maximum of four adults. The 9% Maine lodging tax is included in the price along with a freshly made breakfast prepared with local organic produce and dairy from right up the road. Guest AccessGuests will have exclusive use of the riverside facilities... private parking area, use of the Boat Barn (living room, kitchen, dining room), and use of the Bath House which houses a beautifully tiled shower, toilet and sink. Water, tea and coffee are available for self-service at all times in the Boat Barn as well as simple snacks and basic staples. Towels, shampoo, soap and hairdryer are provided in the Bath House. A first aid kit, bug lotion/spray and flashlights are also available on the premises. Other amenities, such as an alarm clock, are available upon request. Interaction with GuestsWe are happy to welcome you and are glad to help you with any assistance that you may need in planning your stay in the MidCoast area. As mentioned, we live close by on the property, but you'll only see us if you need us. I often describe our place as a "self-serve" bed and breakfast. This does not mean that I won't be making you breakfast. I will happily make you an amazing breakfast. By "self serve", we mean that you can help yourself and really make yourself at home here. We hope that you get a comfortable informal feeling. We strive to provide a feeling of privacy and promote a sense of restfulness. To be perfectly honest, I am not a huge fan of traditional B&Bs. I don't really want my room right next door to the innkeeper's and sometimes I'm just not in the mood to share my "story". Some times, I am. But some times, I'm not. As your hosts, Alex and I are always happy to help you, but it's ok if you don't want to gab it up... we get it. We really do. So, what you can expect to get at The Osprey Nest is the feeling of being in a sweet cozy private rental with a delicious, mostly organic, all local breakfast included and the off chance of seeing members of my family at some point. All lovely people, so you should be OK. The NeighborhoodOur home is located on a beautiful tidal river, The Marsh River - a tributary of the Sheepscot River. The part-fresh/part saltwater river rises and falls with the tide and so although it is possible to access the river at any time for paddling or swimming, it is most enjoyable to go out with mid-high tide and avoid getting stuck in the mud. We have a freight train that passes by on a limited schedule. It is a treat, not an intrusion. When you hear the whistle blow and the distant rumble, you know it will soon come over the bridge... it's a very special spot. Our road dead ends into an island residence and so beyond our home are only four others... that's it. Not a lot of traffic. We all know each other and it is quiet. Sheep and cows graze nearby, the occasional seal swims up the river and Great Blue Herons, Osprey and Bald Eagles live here too. Coyotes can be heard from across the river at night sometimes... in June, the fireflies are magical. The rare Moose has been spotted and we have a local porcupine, a lot of friendly chipmunks and a tribe of turkeys that like to visit us daily. Along with the handful of lovely human neighbors! We found a sweet spot and look forward to sharing it with you. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation from our place, although Concord Coach Lines does have a Midcoast line that goes from Logan Airport/Boston all the way to the towns of Wiscasset and Damariscotta - both of which are about 5-10 minutes away from us. Other Things to NoteWe have a queen-sized bed in the Cottage and two twin-sized beds in the Cabin. So, possible arrangements are the following... a couple in the Cottage (2 people) two individuals, one in the Cottage and one in the Cabin (2 people) a couple in the Cottage and an individual in the Cabin (3 people) a couple in the Cottage and a two individuals/couple in the Cabin (4 people) Children are welcome. We have some of our own! However, please be aware that the buildings are very close to the water's edge at high tide. You will want to keep a keen eye on any child near the dock and the water. We have a pack n' play available for use and are happy to make creative sleeping arrangements for children. Please communicate your bedding needs to us in advance so that we can make the necessary modifications to the sleeping arrangements. Children ages 6-12 are an additional $25 per night, 13-18 years are an additional $50 per night.   There is no extra charge for children ages 5 and under. As mentioned, breakfast and taxes are included with the rate.

Cottage Connection was one of the first vacation rental companies in the Mid-coast region of Maine. Jeff and Audrey Miller, who own three vacation rental homes themselves had an aha moment when they realized they could not find anyone who ‘got it’ to manage their rentals for them. Since 1993 they have been trusted by homeowners and vacationers to “connect” each family with the perfect cottage for their vacation. As Audrey puts it; “The home they stay in becomes a personality, a part of their lore, when a family connects with the right cottage. Whether they want a rustic cabin in the woods or a high-end ocean bungalow, the right setting sets the tone for the entire vacation.” Learn more about how Cottage Connection can help make your vacation perfect! BOOTHBAY REGION The Boothbay Peninsula is a beautiful region rich in culture, history, all things nautical and of course it’s own unique niche in nature. The area offers ample opportunities for biking, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, charters and guided cruises, spas, a championship golf course and country club, mini-golf, bowling, museums, antiquing, hiking and walking trails.
