The SpaceThe Room: The private bedroom has a twin-size bed. There is also a full-size air mattress available for two additional guests. The room has a small window ac-unit, bookshelf, closet, chest, ceiling fan, and standing fan also available.
Who we are: We are a modest family of three that understands traveling on a budget. We bought our small fixer-upper two years ago and have been slaving away ever since. The upper-level has been renovated and is now being rented to a family friend. We live on the ground-level which has been partially renovated. The space is small but cozy and clean. We are a multi-cultural household that enjoys diversity and making new friends. Welcome to our home! Guest AccessCheck-in: Although we can be flexible to accommodate earlier check-in times, the preferred check-in hours are 6-10pm. Please use the first floor side entrance to enter home.
**IMPORTANT: If you plan to arrive early or very late you must let us know beforehand so that we can make the necessary arrangements.
Guests will be provided one key.
You will have shared use of the bathroom, kitchen, dining area and family room.
Wireless internet is available. Shared cable TV is also available in the family room only.
We will make space for you in the fridge (if requested), and you can use any and all appliances and kitchenware. Interaction with GuestsIt is likely that someone will always be home to assist you. We also don't mind making trips to the nearest metro station for pickups/drop-offs since it is so close. Let us know what your needs are and we will try to accommodate as best we can, NO GUARANTEES. The NeighborhoodThis section of Hyattsville is very family-friendly and quiet.
This is a working-class, residential neighborhood with grocery stores, restaurants, bowling, etc. It is a good match for someone that has spent the day exploring DC and prefers an affordable, quiet place to get some rest.
The main criticism I get from guests is regarding the lack of nightlife nearby so please allow me to clarify. If you are looking for a neighborhood that has DC nightlife (bars, clubs, boutiques) then this is not the right community for your stay.
Again, it is a residential neighborhood which will make you feel like a local, not a tourist. Getting AroundParking: There is street and off-street (driveway) parking available.
Metro: Our home is a 20-25 minute walk (1.5 miles) to/from Landover Metro Station (the nearest station). At the station there are also taxis available which will cost about $7-8 to take you to our home. IF we are available, we can pick-up and drop-off guests at Landover Station. Once on the metro, it is about 10 minutes to enter DC and 15 more minutes to the city center.
Buses: There is a bus stop about 4 blocks away (intersection of Cooper Lane & Eldridge St.). If you prefer not to walk to Landover Metro station, the F13 bus can get you to the two other nearby stations (Cheverly & New Carrollton).
From Union Station: Our home is a 35 minute train ride on the metro from Union Station. To get to our house you can get on the Metro train at Union Station (red line) and travel in the direction of Shady Grove. At Metro Center Station (3 stops later) you will need to transfer to the orange line in the direction of New Carrollton. Once on the orange line you will get off at Landover Station (one stop before the last station).
From DCA Airport: The best way to get to our home from DCA is using the metro system. The airport has a metro station which you will need to take in the direction of Fort Totten (yellow line). At L'Enfant Plaza you must transfer to the orange line in the direction of New Carrollton. You will then get off at Landover station. You can also get off at Cheverly or New Carrollton station if you are planning to take the F13 bus to our home.
From BWI (Baltimore) Airport : The best way to get to our home from BWI is using Amtrak or MARC. The closest station to our house using these trains is New Carrollton Station (NCR). There is an airport shuttle that will take you to the train terminal which is a few minutes outside of the airport.
Cheverly & New Carrollton Metro Stations: The most convenient way to get to our home from these two metro stations is using Bus F13. Get off on at the Cooper Lane stop, walk to the intersection of Cooper & Fairwood then walk down Fairwood Rd three blocks and turn right on Standish Drive (our block). Other Things to NoteWe have window units in the house but I only turn them on in very hot weather. Of course, you have full control of the ac-unit in your room. Please be considerate and turn off your ac unit when you are not home.
Towels, soap, shampoo/conditioner, and laundry detergent are provided.
Reminder: There is a kid on the premises! She is in daycare most of the day but you may see/hear her during the early mornings and/or evenings.
There is also a large dog that lives NEXT DOOR. He barks at strangers but he cannot jump the fence.
