The SpaceThe Room: The private bedroom has a twin-size bed. There is also a full-size air mattress available for two additional guests. The room has a small window ac-unit, bookshelf, closet, chest, ceiling fan, and standing fan also available. Who we are: We are a modest family of three that understands traveling on a budget. We bought our small fixer-upper two years ago and have been slaving away ever since. The upper-level has been renovated and is now being rented to a family friend. We live on the ground-level which has been partially renovated. The space is small but cozy and clean. We are a multi-cultural household that enjoys diversity and making new friends. Welcome to our home! Guest AccessCheck-in: Although we can be flexible to accommodate earlier check-in times, the preferred check-in hours are 6-10pm. Please use the first floor side entrance to enter home. **IMPORTANT: If you plan to arrive early or very late you must let us know beforehand so that we can make the necessary arrangements. Guests will be provided one key. You will have shared use of the bathroom, kitchen, dining area and family room. Wireless internet is available. Shared cable TV is also available in the family room only. We will make space for you in the fridge (if requested), and you can use any and all appliances and kitchenware. Interaction with GuestsIt is likely that someone will always be home to assist you. We also don't mind making trips to the nearest metro station for pickups/drop-offs since it is so close. Let us know what your needs are and we will try to accommodate as best we can, NO GUARANTEES. The NeighborhoodThis section of Hyattsville is very family-friendly and quiet. This is a working-class, residential neighborhood with grocery stores, restaurants, bowling, etc. It is a good match for someone that has spent the day exploring DC and prefers an affordable, quiet place to get some rest. The main criticism I get from guests is regarding the lack of nightlife nearby so please allow me to clarify. If you are looking for a neighborhood that has DC nightlife (bars, clubs, boutiques) then this is not the right community for your stay. Again, it is a residential neighborhood which will make you feel like a local, not a tourist. Getting AroundParking: There is street and off-street (driveway) parking available. Metro: Our home is a 20-25 minute walk (1.5 miles) to/from Landover Metro Station (the nearest station). At the station there are also taxis available which will cost about $7-8 to take you to our home. IF we are available, we can pick-up and drop-off guests at Landover Station. Once on the metro, it is about 10 minutes to enter DC and 15 more minutes to the city center. Buses: There is a bus stop about 4 blocks away (intersection of Cooper Lane & Eldridge St.). If you prefer not to walk to Landover Metro station, the F13 bus can get you to the two other nearby stations (Cheverly & New Carrollton). From Union Station: Our home is a 35 minute train ride on the metro from Union Station. To get to our house you can get on the Metro train at Union Station (red line) and travel in the direction of Shady Grove. At Metro Center Station (3 stops later) you will need to transfer to the orange line in the direction of New Carrollton. Once on the orange line you will get off at Landover Station (one stop before the last station). From DCA Airport: The best way to get to our home from DCA is using the metro system. The airport has a metro station which you will need to take in the direction of Fort Totten (yellow line). At L'Enfant Plaza you must transfer to the orange line in the direction of New Carrollton. You will then get off at Landover station. You can also get off at Cheverly or New Carrollton station if you are planning to take the F13 bus to our home. From BWI (Baltimore) Airport : The best way to get to our home from BWI is using Amtrak or MARC. The closest station to our house using these trains is New Carrollton Station (NCR). There is an airport shuttle that will take you to the train terminal which is a few minutes outside of the airport. Cheverly & New Carrollton Metro Stations: The most convenient way to get to our home from these two metro stations is using Bus F13. Get off on at the Cooper Lane stop, walk to the intersection of Cooper & Fairwood then walk down Fairwood Rd three blocks and turn right on Standish Drive (our block). Other Things to NoteWe have window units in the house but I only turn them on in very hot weather. Of course, you have full control of the ac-unit in your room. Please be considerate and turn off your ac unit when you are not home. Towels, soap, shampoo/conditioner, and laundry detergent are provided. Reminder: There is a kid on the premises! She is in daycare most of the day but you may see/hear her during the early mornings and/or evenings. There is also a large dog that lives NEXT DOOR. He barks at strangers but he cannot jump the fence.

The SpaceWith high ceilings and plenty of windows for natural light, this space hardly feels like a basement studio, but rather a bright and open oasis. The floors are new cork, very soft and comfortable. In the kitchenette there is a bar with stools that doubles as an island for socializing or relaxing over a drink. There is Netflix available on the large flatscreen, so guests can enjoy a show or movie anytime. Guest AccessSeparate entrance through basement stairs in back yard. Interaction with GuestsWe live upstairs and are available through phone if you have questions, but we respect your privacy and aim to have minimal interaction. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood of Cheverly is very low crime, very safe for the DC area. Several neighborhood parks nearly. Aldi grocery store and Walgreens less than a 5 minute drive. We're conveniently located near two major freeways (295 and 50). Also, we are walking distance (about 15 mins) from the metro- Cheverly stop on the orange line, if you plan to exclusively walk/bike. There is also a bus stop directly in front of our home. Getting AroundWe're conveniently located next to two major freeways (295 and 50). Also, we are walking distance (about 15 mins) from the metro, at the Cheverly stop on the orange line. Also, there is is plenty of free street parking next to our home. Other Things to NoteWe love our new studio apartment and hope we can share it with you! The space will be equipped with clean sheets, pillows, blankets, bath towels, and a stand up closet to hang clothing. The kitchenette is stocked with very basic essentials such as plates, glasses, and utensils for 4 persons, coffee maker, paper towels, and a few pots and pans. No spices available. Important note: this location is great for short terms guests without a car. Yet it is not ideal for long terms stays for those without car, as we are not walking distance to a grocery store. Also, given that this is a studio apartment and essentially one large living space, it can comfortably accommodate 4 guests for short stays (one week or less), but for long-term guests (over one week) we prefer limiting the number of guests to 2.

Interaction with GuestsWe don't promise baked good or other treats, but chances are you will benefit from my love of baking. The NeighborhoodCheverly is a wonderful little neighborhood. It is very family oriented. It was developed in the 1920's and 1930's and most of the houses date from that time. When it was first developed the owner of the land said that if you wanted to build you couldn't cut down trees and you couldn't flatten the hills. As a result we have a beautiful hilly neighborhood with 100+ year old Oaks, Gums, Maples, and more on every block. We have a wonderful community farmers market in the summer and fall and several great playgrounds. All of this makes us a great home base is you are visitng friends nearby, checking out DC as a tourist, or posted on a short term work trip. The Metro is 0.4 miles away (a 10 minute walk for me, a trip I make everyday on the way to work). You can get to DC museums in 30 minutes if you take the train (door to door) or you can drive and make it in 15 when there isn't traffic. Easter Market and Capital Hill are easy trips in to enjoy the shopping and sights as well. College Park and Hyattsville also provide lots to do. Annapolis is about a 30 minute drive and makes for a fun day trip. (The same is true for Alexandria.) If you are arriving from BWI, you can get here pretty easily by train as well.
