The SpaceThe living room has a futon couch that folds out into a bed. There is a desk/study nook and TV with Netflix, FiOs cable, and a DVD player. We have FiOs wifi as well. The kitchen has just been remodeled and is stocked with pots, pans, plates, silverware, cups, mugs, cooking utensils, a blender, microwave, oven/stove, etc. The bedroom has a brand new full bed with a pretty firm mattress from IKEA. Keep this in mind since it's probably best for people who actually like firm beds. There are two antique dressers, two mirrors and a wardrobe in the bedroom as well. You have your private entrance which leads out onto a beautiful big backyard that you are free to use all you like, and it will basically be all yours except for when our cat or small dog are wandering through. Guest AccessThe only shared area is the washer/dryer/storage room. If you are here for a short trip, we will try not to wash clothes while you are here. If we need to use the washer/dryer, we will arrange a convenient time with you since we have to go through your space to access it. Otherwise, the basement apartment is all yours and you also have a large backyard to yourself. You are free to use the large front yard as well, where we have a patio and garden that's perfect for sitting and reading. If you want animal company, just let me know and we can arrange for your to come upstairs and hang out with the animals. They are not allowed in the basement, but occasionally sneak down there, so please keep this in mind in case you have very severe pet allergies. We live on a quiet street with plenty of parking available. Interaction with GuestsWe are a friendly, diverse household and will be open to interacting as much or as little as you'd like. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is known as "historic/old Greenbelt" and the house is located on a cute, quiet street next to Greenbelt Lake. We're only a five minute walk from a grocery store and restaurants in old Greenbelt. Getting AroundWe're a five minute walk (or less) from multiple bus stops. Five min drive or short bike ride (a mile) to the metro on the convenient green line. 20-25 minute drive or train ride to downtown DC. Only 10-15 minutes to northeast DC. Other Things to NoteThings to keep in mind: -The washer/dryer/storage are shared and people may occasionally need to access them through the basement apartment. We will let you know and work out convenient times if we need to use it during your stay so as to invade your privacy as little as possible. -There are two cats and a small dog who live upstairs. They are not allowed in the basement, but have been known to mischievously run downstairs when we open the door to do laundry. There should be very little or no pet hair downstairs, but if you're severely allergic to pets, this may not be the place for you. -We just bought a new mattress and bed and it is quite firm. Just FYI.
