The SpaceFor your traveling or vacation needs, here is a studio apartment all to yourselves! As you can see from the pictures, there is an open, light atmosphere which will make you feel comfortable and immediately at home in the rustic environment.
The space is furnished with a queen size bed and a futon where one or two additional people could comfortably sleep. We have an additional, very comfortable couch as well that can fit another guest. We also can provide a Coleman cot (it fits one small person or a child) or an air mattress if separate/different beds are preferred.
There's a Roku TV with linked Netflix, HBO Now, Hulu accounts, Pandora Radio, and many other channels, for when you want to relax, and some family-friendly board games provided.
The kitchen has pots, pans, dinnerware, cooking essentials, and of course, coffee is provided! We have a card table and four folding chairs as well for when you're ready to eat, and they're easy to fold up and store out of the way if you want more space. Our backyard has a comfortable bench to view the pond, which often has ducks, geese, muskrats, and other animals swimming around. Its perfect to enjoy a quiet afternoon or a dinner outdoors while the weather is nice.
We provide free wi-fi, guidebooks and a map for while you're in the city. We have heaters if the temperature drops and a window air-conditioning unit so you'll have no trouble staying cool.
The washer/dryer is located in the basement of the main house. If you do end up needing to do a load of laundry, please feel free to contact us and we can arrange for you to have access to our machines as soon as we're able.
For guest with longer stays, or who just want to keep things tidy, we have a roomba available upon request to help with the sweeping. Guest AccessYou have access to the whole in-law suite of our house, a large driveway, and our back yard, including a great view of our pond! Interaction with GuestsWe try to greet each guest when they first come to our home. We are also accessible via Airbnb's Messenger or phone for any issues, or if you simply want good recommendations for things to do in town.
In addition, we know your time is valuable and you may have been traveling a long way to get here, so we offer a Grocery Pre-Stock Service. While we try to provide basic cooking ingredients like oil, flour, salt, etc., if you're interested in arriving to a fully-stocked kitchen, just send us a list of requests via Airbnb Messenger, at least 2 days before your arrival, and we'll do our best to make sure the kitchen is ready for you when you show up!
We'll send you a copy of the receipt along with a payment request for the groceries, plus an extra 10% service charge, through Airbnb so that it can be charged easily and directly alongside your rental payment. Please keep in mind that any seasonal or specialty item requests are subject to availability and reasonableness -- milk, eggs, and hamburgers are doable, but paddlefish caviar or some obscure tropical fruit are probably not. Also please note that this offer is only available for the beginning of your stay -- for the rest of your food, you're on your own! The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is friendly and quiet, and conveniently located near Washington DC, Andrews AFB, and I-495 (the Capital Beltway). Be sure to drive slowly and cautiously once you get to the residential area near our house as there are often children crossing the street, not to mention geese, deer, and other critters.
While the immediate neighborhood is primarily residential, you can find inexpensive gas stations and a 7-11 just down the main road. Within a 10 minute drive are nearby supermarkets, shopping outlets, and pharmacies. Getting AroundIf you're not comfortable with using Uber/Lyft, or biking to the metro, we recommend having a car if you're stay at our house. The closest public transportation is the Branch Avenue Metro Station. It's 1.4 miles away, which should take about 25 minutes to walk, 8 minutes by bike, and is usually about a 5 minute, $4-7 Uber/Uberpool or Lyft/Lyftline ride. The I-495 Capital Beltway entrance is also nearby if you plan on taking a car into the city. Depending on where you're going, it's about a 20-30 minute drive into the heart of DC.
If you have extra time and are traveling with 1-2 people uberpool and lyftline (uber and lyft's carpooling services) both operate in our area. They work like the regular uber and lyft services, but are cheaper and may pick up an extra passenger or two on your trip.
SPECIAL NOTE: DC's metro system is currently undergoing an extensive rehabilitation project to ensure its continued safety. The metro stop nearest to this apartment (Branch Avenue) luckily is relatively new and will not be affected by this project. However, other metro stops throughout the city will be closed at various points until March 2017. For more information on delays and scheduled closures, search online for "DC Metro Safe Track". Uberpool is lowering its prices further during the metro shutdown to help commuters.
