Stay in our spacious, yet cozy, family-friendly, business-ready mid-century split level home in a prime location - close to the National Harbor, DC and Virginia. The space includes a private entrance, off-street and on-street parking, and three floors of living space: entry level has the living room, dining room and kitchen; upstairs includes three bedrooms and a full bath (tub/shower combo); downstairs is the family/TV room (this is a second living space/bonus room), washer/dryer, and a second full bathroom (shower). The largest bedroom has a spacious king-sized bed, flat screen TV with cable and movie channels; the second bedroom has three comfy twin-sized beds; the third bedroom has a full-sized bed with a second twin-sized trundle, if needed. The Home Away from Home has a full kitchen with full-sized stainless steel appliances: refrigerator, gas wall oven, gas stovetop, microwave oven, dishwasher, coffee machine, blender, and toaster. The kitchen is also stocked with cooking essentials, so, it's the perfect place for those wanting the option of preparing meals. The kitchen is also an "eat-in" kitchen, which has available seating for six (extra chairs are available). There's a full dining room, with table and seating for six, as well - so, all in your group can have meals together, if desired. The living room provides ample comfortable seating - a great place to plan your day or evening, as well as just hang out after a day of visiting the city, the Harbor, or any of the other DC-area plethora of attractions. The den/TV room is a large BONUS room, with a large flat screen TV (Netflix, Hulu, DirectTV Now), as well as a computer desk and computer, with high-speed WiFi. (There's also a fireplace, but it is just for looks.) The main and upstairs floors are hardwood - the kind you rarely find in houses anymore. The washer/dryer room (if you should decide to use it) has plenty of space to get the family's clothes washed and dried, if desired. There is also a full house water filtration system (for those who would like to know). The space sleeps eight very comfortable, but we are able to make arrangements for up to four more (that's 12 total) with two queen-sized air mattresses, one each placed in both the living room and den - just ask, if needed. If your stay includes eight guests or less, no air mattresses will be made available, since there are already beds for up to eight persons (two persons in the king bed bedroom, three persons in the twin bed bedroom, and three persons in the full bed/twin trundle bedroom). Please communicate with us your desire for an air mattress to be provided, should you have eight or fewer people in your party.
Check-in time is not written in stone, and check-out time is noon, but, we will accommodate you, as much as possible. We will do our best to work with your travel plans as best we can, as long as you give us enough notice.
Please note that special events may be priced higher (holidays, inauguration, etc.), as well as some weekends.
We love pets, but none of any kind are allowed, out of respect for visitors with possible allergies.
Please keep in mind that this is a quiet residential neighborhood, and you'll be living among the "natives." There will be regular people going about their daily lives. Cars drive by, people walk on the sidewalk, houses get worked on, lawnmowers run, hedges get trimmed, there's a highway at the bottom of the hill at the rear of the house, which is being expanded - you barely hear the traffic because of the triple paned windows, but it can be heard. Also, the garbage gets picked up early in the morning on Wednesdays. (It's not a serene hotel environment, but it is overall pretty quiet.)
Please note that while we accept bookings from first-time AirBNB users with no reviews, we do expect you to have fulfilled the basic verification requirements set by airBNB. M. Keith and Val Guest AccessIn the Home Away from Home, guests access the three top floors of the house. We, at times, occupy an informal office and music studio downstairs (sub-basement - level four) - separate area, separate rear entrance to the house - we are not there on a set daily schedule, however.
Although there is a backyard (deliberately not included in the photos of the listing), and you do have access, if you choose, we do not recommend it at this time. The highway at the foot of the hill at the back of the house is presently being expanded; but, if you like watching the cars go by, it may work fine for you. We will update the description, once the backyard view has improved. Interaction with GuestsWe will likely be here to welcome you, check you in and show you around; after that, it is up to you! Depending on your check-in time, we are able to provide you with a keyless entry code, then greet you later (we do like to meet our guests and show them the details of the home). We are easily reached by text, phone, and email. The NeighborhoodThe Fort Washington area is ideally situated in a prime location - being so close to everything - Old Towne Alexandria (3 miles), the National Harbour (2 miles), downtown DC (monuments, Smithsonian, etc. - 7-12 miles); and, if not close, a couple of interstates are about a mile away, so close that wherever you need to go in the area becomes convenient. Once you arrive, please check our info book for details about our Fort Washington location, and other surroundings. Getting AroundIf you wish to go into the city or elsewhere, you can also drive to a Washington metro area subway station, then take the subway to most of your destinations. There is also a nearby bus line that will transport you to a subway station, thereby giving you easy access to many places in Washington, DC and the surrounding area. Uber/cabs are also only a telephone call away. Other Things to Note-We ask that you confirm your arrival and departure times when you book your stay, and honor the agreed upon times.
-Check out time is 12:00 p.m. (noon) on the day of your departure; however, there is a degree of flexibility, as long as we know well in advance.
-Check-in time is flexible, however, please note that the flexibility refers to there being no check-in time that would be "too late" on your intended check-in day. Checking-in early, that is, prior to 3:00 p.m. is likely not an option; however, please feel free to ask, just in case we happen to be able to accommodate you on your particular check-in day.
-There is an alarm system installed in the house, as well as a video surveillance system on the outside perimeter of the home; it is a very pleasant neighborhood, but we just happen to like the extra security.
