The SpaceQuick glance: Private room in a house, 2 ppl max, we have dogs, a place to sleep over not hang out. This is a mid-century designed house in the immediate northern suburbs of Washington D.C. It is situated in an old growth forest, so the setting is very quiet and peaceful. It takes about 20 - 30 minutes to drive to the museums and monuments downtown. You must arrive by car as the house is not close enough to walk to the Metro. The house is artfully maintained and has all the normal amenities associated with modern living. We do own adult black labs that are very well trained, so there are dogs in the house. Guests stay in a private bedroom and have a non-shared private bath. We only allow one set of guests at a time and have a 2 -3 day maximum limit to a stay. Nothing long term, sorry. The room has a fold out couch that can sleep 2 people. Guest AccessGuests have access to the house. They can come and go as they please. We are a married couple and the house is well maintained and clean. Interaction with GuestsWe interact as much or as little as our guests require or feel comfortable with, but we do go about our daily lives. We can provide ample info on where to go and how to best get there. We've been doing this for many years. The NeighborhoodVery peaceful neighborhood, quiet, serene - a hidden oasis 10 miles from true downtown D.C. Getting AroundGuests MUST arrive by automobile. We are too far (at least 30 min walk) from the DC Metro transit system. Other Things to NoteThis listing is for someone or a couple coming north or south on US 95 and want to make a quick stop into D.C. The location is minutes off the Capital Beltway so you can get off the highway, drop your gear and head downtown. In the morning you can get right back on the highway.

The SpaceStay in a beautiful townhome near DC! I recently remodeled my downstairs for you into a studio apartment. There is a gorgeous tiled walk-in shower with granite vanity. Granite bars for eating breakfast, lunch or dinner. The bars have electric outlets with USB ports so you can plug in your computer, smart phone, etc as you eat your breakfast or dinner! One queen and one twin bed available, with a brand new queen sized sofa bed. The sofa bed has a "top of the line" foam mattress. This is not your typical sofa bed. Really feels like a regular bed. So the apartment can sleep 5 people comfortably, counting the sofa bed. There is a stand alone closet for your clothes, which includes drawers. 60" cable TV with surround sound and a nightstand with an electric outlet for your phone/iPad to recharge, just like a hotel! Updated kitchenette with small fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster oven and Keurig coffee maker. Cups, glasses, plates, silverware and utensils for your cooking and eating use. You are welcome to use my upstairs gorgeous kitchen (Bosch microwave and oven, Kitchen Aid fridge and dishwasher. If you need a spice or something special from the kitchen, just ask! I am happy to let you borrow it. Just 1.2 miles from the DC Metro Red Line (RideOn bus to metro). I have metro brochures and a fantastic folder with information left by previous guests. Please look and add to it from your travels. But please do NOT take it with you!! There is parking next to the Metro and taxis. A taxi ride to my home is about $5-6. Uber taxi service is also available using a free download to your smart phone. The National Mall is about 20 min train ride on the metro from Silver Spring. You can also take the metro from Reagan National Airport. Read more instructions about transportation below. I am sorry but my townhome association pool is not available to my airbnb guests due to my homeowner's rules. Whole Foods grocery 1.2 mile in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland. Trader Joe's close by too. Wireless WiFi, media room has 60" TV with surround sound, Cable, free parking, Washer/dryer available at no charge. Quiet family friendly townhome development. Walk 2 minutes to the Sligo Creek Trail to jog/bike. Make yourself at home! Downtown Silver Spring has great restaurants, Saturday morning Farmer's Market, live theatre, outdoor events, movie theaters. AFI Silver Spring Theatre just one mile away. Bus transit available (see directions below!) to the Metro, AFI, downtown Silver Spring. MARC train stops at the Metro train station which is one block from downtown. If you need to arrive a bit early or stay a bit later, just let me know! Once on the metro, you are a 15-20 minute train ride to all of the major tourist sites, ie mall, museums, etc. I have hosted many radiology residents who are in town for the AIRP course at the AFI Silver Theatre., which is one mile from my home and in downtown Silver Spring. If you coming to Silver Spring for the course, stay with me! There is a #13 Ride-On bus that has a bus stop on my street (blue sign) near the entrance of my townhome complex. Get off the bus at the Spring St./Colesville Rd stop, cross the street, and walk 1 block to the AFI Silver Theater. In the morning, the residents told me they walked out my door at 7:20 am and caught the 7:25 am bus without a problem. The #13 bus runs rush hour times only during the work week (morning commute times in and afternoon-early evening times home.) To get home from downtown Silver Spring and AFI, they walked 1 block to the Fenton/Colesville Rd. bus stop on the same side of the street as the AFI Silver Theater and took the #13 Ride-On bus, which arrived every 30 minutes at XX:05 and XX:35, and dropped them off in my townhome complex. Stress-free and easy. The metro card works on the bus or you can pay cash (no change - must be exact or you lose it!). Of course, any guest can use this transportation if you do not have a car! This bus also goes directly to the metro/MARC for the same price. Alternative bus lines include the Z8 (runs every day -all day/night), which runs north and south on Colesville Drive. You pick up this bus by walking 10 min from my home using the Sligo Creek Parkway Jogging/Biking Trail to the Colesville Rd intersection. This runs next to quiet two-way street (25 mph) -beautiful trees and a creek! My home is off of Sligo Creek Parkway. Guest AccessThe entire downstairs studio apartment will be your private space. There is not a closed door between my residence and yours. There is an open stairwell that can allow sound but we cannot see one another!! The only time I need to go downstairs is to use the washer/dryer (you may use it too) or get something out of storage. I would prefer to have my living/dining room as my private space. Cook in my awesome kitchen anytime and store anything in my fridge/freezer you want. You do have a dorm size fridge downstairs for your personal use as well. We will share the washer/dryer. I apologize but my patio is not available for airbnb guests at this time. I also would prefer that you not make a fire in the fireplace. Thank you. Interaction with GuestsI will usually be present during your stay to help answer questions and help you in any way! However, please know that I am very respectful of your own privacy and space! The NeighborhoodMy neighborhood is family oriented, quiet and friendly! Although I live close to the city, it feels like I live much farther away! Other Things to NoteIt is very very important that you do not park where RESERVED is painted not the blacktop. My neighbors can have you towed. And I could lose the ability to host you in the future! One last note: Airbnb just notified me that beginning June 1, 2016 there will be a 7% Occupancy Tax added to your bill. This is going directly to Montgomery County (the county I live in). It appears that the hotel industry got the lawmakers to change Airbnb pricing by insisting guests pay an Occupancy Tax. This is the same tax you would pay to stay in a hotel. SO I am so sorry. This additional fee was not something Airbnb nor I had anything to do with. And we don't get the money either. I did want to explain that fee on your receipt from Airbnb.

You can also park at both metro stations, for a fee (Silver Spring is free on weekends). Use the WMATA trip planner to check how long it will take to get where you want to go by Metro. If you're driving, beware that relatively short distances can take a long time to drive in the DC metro area, so what looks close on the map may not feel close once you're here. You can use Takoma Middle School (right down the street) as your starting point if you want to get driving time estimates from our house. Other Things to NoteMost people come to DC to see the sights, but there are also some amazing natural spaces scattered around the city! We appreciate the U.S. and international acquaintances we've made as their hosts. Interaction with GuestsThis is a homeShare—with us, not a separate, private guest home or apartment. Please tell us during your stay if we can help make your experience more comfortable or pleasant. In return please respect our home and our neighbors. Common courtesies and cordial interaction are expected. Guests usually have the kitchen to themselves in the morning and we try to schedule our evening meal after our guests' meal. The NeighborhoodThis home is in an urban and eclectic neighborhood at the nexus of DC, Silver Spring and Takoma Park. Two Redline Metro stations are one-mile away--Takoma & Silver Spring. Our community is family oriented and quiet but with all the urban resources you need to easily shop, dine-out, see a film and more, many are within walking distance. We are also near a tranquil, woodsy park with a lovely hike/bike/jog trail along a creek. Getting AroundWe are one mile from 2 Metro stations and one-half block from a bus that will take you to both stations. The Takoma Station is in DC and cheaper if you're coming from that direction. Silver Spring is the first station in MD from DC and convenient to shops and restaurants. Also the neighborhood is very bike/walkable. Other Things to NoteWe have 2 cats, so if you are allergic, this is not the place for you. If you are traveling with a pet, your request will be thoughtfully considered and if accepted, please add an additional guest to your booking.

The SpaceThis guest room has a queen-sized bed, a large closet, a large desk, a night table, and a full bathroom next door. There are two other guest bedrooms in the house, each with twin beds. This space is perfect for quiet study, work or a relaxing vacation. And if you need fast Internet speed--mine tested at 83 mbps for downloading and 91 mbps for uploading in January, 2016! Note for AIRP participants: My AIRP guests have all been extremely focused on their studies. I think they have found that my quiet house lends itself well to both individual and, for groups that have reserved 2 rooms, group study sessions. I am quiet and unobtrusive, and want to support your efforts to learn as much as you can while you're here. Our neighborhood, midway between downtown Silver Spring and Takoma Park, Maryland--and also near the DC border--is quiet, friendly and close-knit. These three areas each have their attractions. It's just a short stroll to the heart of downtown Silver Spring where you can catch a movie at the American Film Institute/Silver Theater, shop at the Safeway or Whole Foods, work or relax at Starbucks or one of the 3 independent coffee shops, go to the Farmer's Market on Saturdays, or dine at any of the many independen ethnic or chain restaurants. Both downtown Silver Spring and Takoma Park have vibrant commercial districts and are fun to explore. Takoma Park's downtown is a single block, with only independent shops --some of them charming and quirky--with the vibe of an "urban village". Our house is down the street from the Takoma Park branch of Montgomery College. There are 3 parks nearby, 2 public libraries within walking distance, an ice skating rink, and bike trails, too (just ask if you'd like to borrow my bike!) And of course, there are so many things to do in the city! The Takoma or Silver Spring Metrorail stations are less than a mile's walk (25 minutes, max!) There's almost always on-street parking available right in front of the house. This is a very walkable and friendly neighborhood, with easy access to bike paths, hiking trails, parks, and residential and commercial streets. If you're interested in a long-term stay, perhaps for an internship, professional training, or fellowship, you are likely to find this central location well-suited to your needs. I'm sure you'll find both your room and the entire house comfortable and convenient for study, relaxation, and exploring downtown DC and Silver Spring. Guests have full access to all common areas of the house: the kitchen, living and dining rooms, basement (with laundry facilities), family room, and yards. I enjoy cooking for my guests on occasion and facilitating their stay here any way I can--perhaps a ride or recommendations for places to visit, for example. With rare exceptions, I will be there the entire time. I hope that your visit will be at a time when we're both free to have a few meals together and chat. If there's anything you need, please go ahead and ask...I'll try my best to help you however possible! The SpaceThis room has a twin bed, a large closet, a desk by a window overlooking the backyard, a night table, and a full bathroom right across the hall. This space is perfect for quiet study, work or a relaxing vacation. And if you need fast Internet speed--mine tested at 83 mbps for downloading and 91 mbps for uploading in January, 2016! Guest AccessGuests have full access to the kitchen, living room, 2 shared bathrooms, family room, yards, porch and deck, basement (with laundry facilities) and two bathrooms--a half-bathroom on the first level and a full one on the second level. The two bathrooms are shared, as up to 3 bedrooms are rented through AirBnb. Interaction with GuestsI hope that your visit will be at a time when we're both free to have a few meals together and chat. But I'm flexible--it may well be the case that either or both of us are too busy for that! Note for AIRP participants: My AIRP guests have all been extremely focused on their studies. I think they have found that my quiet house lends itself well to both individual and, for groups that have reserved 2-3 rooms, group study sessions. I am quiet and unobtrusive, and want to support your efforts to learn as much as you can while you're here. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood, midway between downtown Silver Spring and Takoma Park, Maryland--and also close to the DC border--is quiet, friendly and close-knit. These three areas each have their own unique attractions. It's just a short stroll to downtown Silver Spring to catch a movie at the American Film Institute/Silver Theater, shop at the Safeway or Whole Foods, go to the Farmer's Market on Saturdays, or dine at one of the many ethnic or chain restaurants. Takoma Park's downtown is a single block, with only independent businesses --some of them charming and quirky--it has the vibe of an "urban village". Our house is down the street from the Takoma Park branch of Montgomery College. There are 3 parks nearby, and bike trails, too (just ask if you'd like to borrow my bike!) And of course, there are so many things to do in the city! Getting AroundThe Takoma or Silver Spring Metrorail stations are less than a mile's walk (25 minutes, max!) There's almost always on-street parking available right in front of the house. This is a very walkable neighborhood, with easy access to biking/hiking trails, parks, and residential and commercial streets. Other Things to NoteIf you're interested in a long-term stay, perhaps for an internship, professional training, or fellowship, you are likely to find this central location well-suited to your needs. I'm sure you'll find both your room and the entire house comfortable and convenient for study, relaxation, and exploring downtown DC and Silver Spring. I warmly welcome people of all different races, ethnic backgrounds, religious and political beliefs, and sexual orientations, and hope that my guests feel the same way. Meeting people of varied backgrounds is one of the things I like most about being a host!

Getting AroundLess than a quarter mile to Georgia Avenue bus lines and Forest Glen metro, on the red line. We are one metro stop away from downtown Silver Spring. From Union station ( a DC hub for buses and trains ) you can take the metro and arrive at our house in about 25 minutes. We are right near the beltway, giving drivers easy access to the entire DC metro area. (At least when its not rush hour!) From National Airport (DCA) you can take the metro to our house in about 45 minutes during the workweek, and longer (due to infrequent train traffic) on the weekends. From Dulles Airport (IAD) you take a $5 shuttle from the airport to the metro, then take the metro to our house. It would take about an hour and 30 minutes. From Baltimore Airport (BWI), you can take a free airport shuttle to the MARC or Amtrak trains, both of which can take you from Baltimore to Washington, DC Union Station. Other Things to NoteWe are committed to caring for our planet. Our home is powered by 100% wind energy, and we compost food scraps instead of tossing them into the trash.
