The SpaceI am a teacher, originally from England and my home and garden have a style that is a mix of New England and Old England. My daughter now lives in London and her newly decorated room is available for guests. I am a teacher and during the week I have to be at work by 7:30 so I leave the house at 7:15. This means I cannot offer breakfast but coffee and tea is available. I have a wonderful flower garden, very peaceful and serene and a wonderful place to sit and relax. Harvard Square and Boston are easily accessible. Mystic Lake is at the end of the street and Arlington Center is a 15 minute walk. My house is a Cape, cosy and peaceful. Guests have wireless access, and off street parking. Arlington boasts lots of great restaurants, two movie theaters, public transportation into Boston and easy access to some local beauty spots. Other Things to NoteThere is an overnight parking ban in Arlington so if you have a car you can park it in the driveway overnight.

The Space$150/night: Whole top floor (two bedrooms-a single and a double-with private bath and sitting room/office). You will enjoy a private space with your own bathroom. Comfy beds with puffy duvets, overhead fans, all linens provided. Wireless throughout. You will also find an assortment of teas and an electric kettle for your use. I've traveled a lot and know how much it means to have a cozy welcoming and comfortable place to stay. And whether it's been a ger (yurt) in Mongolia, a round thatched roof house by the seaside on the coast of Senegal, a hotel in Istanbul or an apartment in Paris, I like to know that there will be a pot of good coffee waiting when I wake up in the morning. I'll make sure you have coffee & tea in the morning and at the very least, a continental breakfast--with waffles or pancakes on the weekend! Guest AccessGuests have access to the entire third floor: study/office space and private bathroom, and bedrooms--as well as to a sitting room on the second floor. Interaction with GuestsDepends on the guests and on my schedule. Generally, I follow my guests' lead. My aim is to make people feel at home and to respect their privacy. The NeighborhoodThis is a very friendly neighborhood, safe and great for walking. There is just about everything you need within walking distance--restaurants, banks, dry cleaner, post office, drug store, coffee shops, and more. And we are close to public transportation--buses and commuter rail (1 stop into the city). West Medford is a nice neighborhood with lots of green space and the Mystic River and lakes just down the street (great for a swim in the summer, and nice for a brisk walk in winter). It's pleasant for walking or going for a run. Boston is a great city to visit and I have lots of tips for fun and interesting outings--walks in the city, historic tours and museums, boat rides to the Boston Harbor Islands in the summertime, restaurants, music and theater. You will find just about all you need within walking distance: banks, post office, dry cleaner, drugstore, pastry and coffee shops, pizza and sandwich places. Whole Foods is nearby, as are a number of wine stores. And West Medford is home to award winning Bistro 5 restaurant, as well as Emilianoz and Snappy Pattys, all within walking distance. A new vegan restaurant, Fruition, has just opened in the neighborhood, as well. Getting AroundWe are close (a 5-7 minute walk) to transportation into the city via commuter rail--just one stop into Boston, and are on several bus lines that lead to subway lines. If you are from out of town and have family in one of the area hospitals and are looking for a comfortable place to stay with easy access to the city, this is very convenient, with the commuter rail into the city just a short walk from the house. Buses to Davis Square (red line subway) and to Lechmere (green line subway) within a minute or two walk from the house. Other Things to NoteThis is not an ideal space for small children, as there is an open staircase leading up to the third floor.

The SpaceOur home combines the quiet and comfort of a residential neighborhood with the convenience of easy access to Tufts, Davis Square, and the Red Line via multiple bus routes. The room has a double futon, desk, and closet for your use, as well as a mini refrigerator and a water kettle. It has three windows, giving it lots of light and a great cross-breeze. It is perfect for one guest, and acceptable for two people who are accustomed to sharing a bed. Please note that the bathroom is shared. Guest AccessWe do not serve breakfast or provide kitchen access. But the guestroom includes a small refrigerator and an electric kettle and French press for making coffee or tea. The bathroom is shared between the homeowners and our guest(s). Offstreet parking! Guests may park in our driveway. Please stay to the right (nearer the house.) Outdoor bike parking is also available. You'll want to bring your own lock. There is a washing machine and a drier in the basement that guests may use. Just ask us to show it to you! Interaction with GuestsYour hosts will make sure you have everything you need. We will show you around the house and make sure you have all of your questions answered. Need a restaurant suggestion? Happy to help! Want help getting around town? We'll get you oriented to Greater Boston's public transit system (The T). We want you to feel comfortable and at ease during your stay. That said, we are both bookish by nature and have other commitments. We are probably not the best match for guests who are looking to socialize. The NeighborhoodThis is a charming residential neighborhood filled with older homes and flowering trees. We are a block away from the West Medford Commuter Rail stop. Restaurants, grocery stores, and a post office are all an easy walk away. Davis Square, Tufts, Arlington Center, Medford Center, and even Lechmere are each a bus ride away. Getting AroundOne block from the West Medford Commuter Rail stop. 15-20 minutes to Davis Square and the Red Line via the 94 bus. Tufts is 8-10 minutes away via either the 94 or the 80 bus routes. In good weather, it is a pleasant 20 minute walk. The 80 bus route travels from Lechmere (and the Green subway line) to Arlington Center, going right by our house. It also connects us to Ball Square, Magoun Square, and Union Square. Other Things to NoteThere is a small, older dog in residence. Please be kind to him! Scritches are welcome, but do not try to pick him up.

The SpaceA perfect spot for the night! The "couch" is actually a captain's bed - a flat, slightly-narrower-than-twin-sized bed, rather than a couch with cushions. - I'll give you a washcloth, hand towel, and bath towel. - You're welcome to take a shower. (Note: it's a walk-in shower, without a bathtub) Shampoo and soap are in the shower. - Also in the shower is a shower seat -- if you don't need to sit while showering, please feel free to take it out and leave it on the floor of the bathroom while you shower. - Alewife T station is within walking distance, via the bike path (in daylight) or Fairmont St. (at night) - Note: the last few yards of the bike path are unlit at night, so you'll have to continue on Thorndike St. to Herbert St, turn right & walk one block to Fairmont St, turn right on Fairmont and walk until you see my little gray house on your right (just past my neighbor's big white house) - Bus routes on Massachusetts Avenue are within walking distance via Fairmont St. Guest AccessYou'll sleep in the living room, and have access to the bathroom and kitchen. The floor plan of the house is mostly open, but I'll be spending most of my time at the other end of the house. You're welcome to use the washing machine, in the basement - ask me about it. I give occasional voice lessons. At those times I'll have to ask for the living room area, since that's where the piano is! (Yes, you're welcome to play the piano when I don't have a student.) Interaction with GuestsI'm glad to chat, but I'm sure we'll both need our private times. If you need help or advice, please ask me... I'll do my best. The NeighborhoodLooks like country, close to town. Getting Around- Parking: The town of Arlington, MA doesn't permit overnight on-street parking. I have a driveway, and can make room for you to park in it... but if you're leaving your car here during the day, please move it to the street so I can drive my own car. - How to get here by T: Take the Red Line to Alewife Station. Exit at the front of the train, go upstairs to a platform where you'll see some shops, and head for the Passenger Pick-Up Area, which is to the right, up a further flight of stairs (or a ramp if you prefer), and outside. (Caution: do not use the elevator at the left end of the platform! - it will take you to a different part of the station, from which the following directions will be useless!) Continue to the street, and head right, into a tangle of Rt 2 off-ramps and an overpass. You'll cross a single-lane street (part of Rt 2). Walk along the nice bike path, over the little wooden bridge, while admiring Alewife Brook. The bike path continues under the Rt 2 overpass. Past the overpass, you will see a swamp to your right. Turn right as soon as the swamp lets you, onto a paved street (Thorndike Street), keeping the swamp to your right. (If you follow the bike path as far as a sign with gold letters welcoming you to Arlington, you've gone too far - you're past the swamp.) Walking along Thorndike St, you'll very quickly (before coming to any houses on your right) come to a dirt path running along a little stand of trees. In daylight the dirt path is the quickest way to my house. Take it - still keeping the swamp to your right. The first turn to your left will take you to Fairmont St. That first little grey house to your left is mine. At night you're better off staying on Thorndike to Herbert St. Turn right, then turn right onto Fairmont St. My house is the last one on the right. Other Things to NoteI'm disabled... standing and walking are hard for me. Please leave chairs empty, so I can sit when I need to. If you could help me replace the sheets on the bed before you leave, it would be a wonderful help! But it isn't something I require... after all, you're my guest in my home.

The SpaceIdeal space for a couple or a single traveler. Guest AccessAccess to pretty much everything except my office space off the livingroom (and of course, my bedroom). Interaction with GuestsI'm very flexible with interactions with you. I'll probably be around when you are here, but my schedule can get very busy so we may connect very little, depending. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is very quiet and safe and Arlington has turned into quite a gold mine of restaurants of just about every ethnicity you can imagine, and you've got the Capitol theater (movies) and the Regent Theatre (music, theater, movies). This is a great place to launch into any adventures you'll want to have in Cambridge, Somerville, Medford and Boston, or heading out of town, to Lexington and Concord. Getting AroundThe #77 bus takes you down Mass ave (5 minute walk from the front door), to Porter Square or Harvard Square where you can pick up the subway (the "T") and get anywhere throughout the city. Also you are very close to Alewife station. Other Things to NoteThere's a large driveway. My down stairs neighbors, a young married couple, are nice, cool. There is a TV but I have the very most basic cable.

Guest AccessThe room is on the third floor and my personal living space is on the second.I use a folding screen that I close or open, and if open I invite guests to use the living room area as well as the dining room. Interaction with GuestsI am often around and willing to make suggestions or offer a short ride if I can. I like to have conversations with the people who stay but can also respect their need for privacy and independence while on vacation or business here. So, I don't usually go upstairs to the rental space while guests are staying; if you should need something you can text me or call me. I leave my number out and obvious to help you with that. The NeighborhoodThere are too many restaurants to recount, of every kind and price range, within 4-8 blocks of my house. The only chains are Starbucks, Not Your Average Joe's, or Dunkin Donuts. The rest are local businesses. There is a used bookstore, arts and crafts supplies, flower shop and numerous gift stores with local artists. A mile away in East Arlington is a well priced movie theater, The Capitol, that serves great ice cream, cappuccinos, and beer and wine. Next to it, a 30 yr. establishment selling the best! ham and cheese croissants, muffins etc. Quebrada. Relax at Spy Pond, watching the swans and ducks and geese(please do not feed them). Other Things to NoteTwo flights of stairs to your room may be an issue for some. The SpaceThe bedroom is cozy yet ample with air conditioning, and the house is spacious and has a nice yard which you're free to use. Using the fridge, cooking, and hanging out the common areas is fine as long as you clean up after yourself. Keeping your bags at the house after checkout time is an extra $15 cash. Guest AccessI will need access to the bathroom from 7:30-8:30am every morning, so try to use the bathroom during other hours. You'll have full access to the entire house provided you're responsible and respectful. Interaction with GuestsIf I am around I can help with questions. The NeighborhoodThe Capitol Theater is a great place to catch a movie, if you love Indian food try Punjab which is a 10 minute walk. The Minuteman bike path is a great resource and worth a ride or walk on. Spy Pond is 5 minutes away and a great place to relax or drop a line in. Getting Around1 mile from Alewife T station via the bike path. Buses stop on Mass Ave which is 2 blocks away, the 77 takes you to Harvard Square. There is a Zip Car rental (email hidden) gas station 5 minutes away. Ask me for more info if needed. Other Things to NoteBe mindful of Oscar the basset hound. Try not to let him out of the house (he's not much for escaping so this shouldn't be an issue). I assume if you book the room, you are ok being around dogs. I won't be making much of an effort to keep him away from guests. But he is the most laid back, non-annoying dog you'll probably ever meet so it shouldn't matter. He does like to get into food/trash, so keep your door completely shut and secure items like these (see printed instructions upon arrival).
