The SpaceThis room is dubbed "The Awesome Room" because everyone loves it, and we know you will too. Spacious renovated 3rd floor attic oasis, with a sunny sitting room next to it. Shared bathroom is on 2nd floor, shared with other guests. We are steps to the bike path, and a short walk to the lovely Arlington reservoir and park, a little longer walk or short drive to shops and restaurants in Arlington Heights.
Easy with a car, parking available.
With public transport, we are a few blocks from a bus to take you to Alewife T station (in 20 min), to Cambridge (in 25 min), or to Lexington Center (in 10 min). To Boston: with car 20-25 min. Without car, 40-60 min. This is a suburban location so many find it easiest with a car, since buses are relatively infrequent.
There is another room available in the same house, which fits two. (See "private room in a spacious house" or "two private rooms in spacious home" for details on other options). Guest AccessWe love meeting new people, but also respect the desire for privacy and solitude. You are welcome to use the common areas, yard and deck. We are casual and friendly. Spacious and comfortable common areas. We don't provide breakfast. Limited kitchen use to make coffee/tea, breakfast and heating up leftovers is OK, but please no cooking of large meals, as we are a busy family with unpredictable schedules. Interaction with GuestsWe live here with our teenage son, and our mild mannered dog. We love meeting new people, and would love to help you enjoy your stay as much as you wish. We come and go, and we are happy to share conversation over tea, if you like. You can always text for answers to questions, if we are not home to answer. The NeighborhoodWe are on a quiet dead end street, in a lovely friendly neighborhood. The Arlington Reservoir and Rindge park are a few blocks away. The walk around the reservoir is about a mile, going past a community farm, a beach, woods, and a park where dogs and friends gather at sunset. This is a friendly neighborhood where people walk and bike, and know their neighbors! We are steps from a bike path, which stretches from Cambridge to Bedford, and another few blocks to Trader Joe's, and the restaurants and shops of Arlington Heights. Getting around greater Boston is much easier with a car, or the combination of car and subway: 20-25 min to Cambridge or Boston. SEE "GETTING AROUND" FOR DETAILS! Getting AroundSUBURBAN LOCATION - EASIEST WITH A CAR!
We are two blocks from a bus that takes you to historic Lexington Center in 10 minutes - running twice an hour on weekdays.
Regarding transit in Greater Boston: We are in a suburban location that doesn't have its own train station. Driving into Cambridge from here takes 20-25 minutes, and to Boston takes about 25-35 minutes (depending on where you're going and the time of day).
The best/easiest way to get to Cambridge and/or Boston, in my experience, is to drive a car 7-10 minutes to the closest subway stop, which is the Alewife Station - the last station stop of the red line of the MBTA. Parking at the station is $7/day. The "T" can take you to many locations in greater Boston, conveniently. It costs about $2/ride (including the ability to transfer lines). The "T" stops running at approximately midnight.
Without a car, there is a bus that stops about 2 blocks from us, that can take you to/from the Alewife MBTA Station in 20-25 minutes. HOWEVER please note that the bus only runs once per hour during off-peak times, or 4 times an hour during rush hour. Also, it STOPS running in the early evening (9pm weekdays and 7pm on Saturdays) and DOES NOT RUN on Sundays. You can look up the schedules on the (URL HIDDEN) website: look for the 62 and the 76 lines for the bus, and the red line for the subway. As an alternative, Uber to the Alewife station costs about $12-15 each way.
For an alternate way to get to Cambridge: we are 15 minute walk from the Arlington Busway, where you can get a bus taking you to Harvard Square in 25-30 minutes. We are also close to Enterprise Car Rental, and we can provide one parking space per room. Other Things to NoteNo smoking on the premises, please.
The bathroom is shared.
We live here with our friendly and mellow elderly dog.
Our son is a drummer, but he practices in the basement so you won't hear it, and he stops by 9:30pm at the latest.
