The SpaceWe live in a beautiful, antique Colonial Farmhouse dating from 1804, with land surrounded by old stone walls. The room you will be staying in has a queen bed, smart t.v. with Netflix/Amazon, cable TV, DVD player, wi-fi service and A/C. We have refrigerator space if you need to store something, and you can use our washer/dryer. Guests would also be welcome to cook in our kitchen. The per-night price is for the room only. We also offer a delicious breakfast made with locally sourced ingredients (breads, meats, eggs, veggies, maple syrup and more..); the price for breakfast is $18 per person. Guest AccessYou are welcome to explore our nine acres of land (field and forest, with lots of granite ledge). There is a lot of wildlife here which you might see (bears, hawks, resident porcupine, wild turkeys, moose, foxes, bobcats... and even mountain lions have been spotted). There are lovely places to drive, walk, bike, fish & hike that we can direct you to, around the picturesque Quabbin Reservoir Watershed. You will find the surrounding towns to be lovely and there is a wonderful farmer's market on the Barre Common. Barre is also know for the world-renowned Insight Meditation Society (IMS) where residents can sit in on Dharma/Meditation talks. We are just south of Route 2, off Route 122, about 90 minutes west of Boston/Cambridge, and 50 minutes east of Amherst. Interaction with GuestsWe will do everything we can to make your stay comfortable and to respect your privacy and need for tranquility. We are happy to answer questions, provide resources and direct you to interesting destinations. Depending on the time of your stay, we would likely be around most of the time if you have questions. The NeighborhoodOur house is on a wonderfully quiet, rural road with very few cars passing by. The only thing you will hear at night is the chirping of crickets and frogs. Getting AroundBarre is in rural Central/Western Mass. You will need a car, motorcycle or bike to get around. We are just south of Route 2, off Route 122, about 90 minutes west of Boston/Cambridge, and 50 minutes east of Amherst. Other Things to NoteFor dinner options, there is an excellent gourmet restaurant called Picasso's. There are also several pizza places in town. There is also a BBQ/ice cream place 5 minutes away called Carter Stevens. The Rose 32 Cafe is a sensational bakery about 20 minutes away. One of our favorite places to go is the Petersham Country store (8 minutes drive). It is an old fashioned country store selling delicious baked goods, organic products and great gifts.
