The SpaceWe find Hickory Winery and Guest House to be one of the most distinctive and alluring properties in the area. The guest house was built by an Australian who patterned it after his country's traditional Victorian Farmhouse - featuring wide plank wood flooring, lots of big windows, and interesting details throughout. The views from inside the house frame the vineyards, hayfields and distant hills. Anyone with an artistic sense will find it to be very inspiring, as we've heard from the artists, writers and photographers who have stayed.
We will provide a complimentary bottle of our Hickory Creek wine as well as 2 complimentary tastings at our winery for guests who are age 21+! Your dogs will receive complimentary treats...
The 2 bedrooms are fully furnished - one with a king bed, and the second has a pullout queen couch (never have had a complaint about it's comfort). There is a full bath between the upstairs bedrooms, and a half bath on the first floor. Large french doors open from both the living room and dining room to the outdoor deck with grill and lounge chairs. The kitchen has all amenities for cooking those provisions from nearby farmstands, and the dining room seats 6+.
You will have the opportunity to enjoy over 30 acres to privately explore - including large pond frontage and woods that house many deer. Our resident pheasants love the fields of wild grass. It's a birdwatching paradise too, with plenty of waterfowl, owls, songbirds, swallows, and migrants of all kinds. Kids will love the tire swing and room to run and explore nature. You will love getting back to basics and enjoying the beautiful bounty of Southwest Michigan! Guest AccessWe will provide you with instructions for check in prior to your arrival. There is an ADT security alarm you may use during your stay if desired. Parking is adjacent to the house.
You will enjoy full access of the property and complete solitude in the evenings, with the exception of the chirping frogs and squawks at sundown by the resident pheasants. It's fun to watch them scramble around! The sunsets from the large western facing outside deck are lovely to watch. Coffee on the covered front porch in our adirondacks, or exploring the property with your pups is a great way to start the day. Interaction with GuestsOwners and/or property manage are accessible 24/7 and live within 2 miles of the winery. Feel free to stop by the winery and enjoy complimentary tastings of our award winning wines! The NeighborhoodHickory House is located on Hickory Creek Winery's property on the Lake Michigan Shore Wine Trail. We are not only in the heart of wine country, we are also minutes away from Warren Dunes, Lake Michigan beaches, Harbor Shores Golf Club (Senior PGA), Four Winds Casino and a variety of restaurants along Red Arrow Highway stretching from New Buffalo to St. Joseph. Lots of fun brewpubs like Greenbush, Tapistry, Cultivate, Round Barn and the soon to be open Haymarket (same owners as Chicago) are very close, as is Journeyman Distillery.
South Bend and Notre Dame are a 30 minute drive from us, so consider Hickory House for those football weekends! We are also located on the Apple Cider Century's bike trail, and there are additional bike trails throughout our area. Outdoor activities are accessible during all four seasons - x-country ski and snowmobile trails, local farmers markets, and fruit orchard picking (blueberry, cherry, peach, apple), fall harvest pumpkin patches, and of course incredible white sand beaches, dunes and old growth forests for exploring.
Cute shops and antiquing are close by in Three Oaks, Sawyer, Buchanan, New Buffalo, Lakeside, Union Pier, Harbert, Baroda and Bridgman. Also, great shopping in downtown St. Joseph - which also has museums, Antiques on the Bluff, and the carousel at gorgeous Silver Beach. Getting AroundThere are winery and brewery tour buses since you don't want to imbibe and drive. Also, local taxi companies and Uber. Great country backroads for biking or motorcycling. Other Things to NotePlease be aware that we do not have WIFI. Cell service works very well in our area - particulary Verizon & ATT. If you are in desperate need, we have a hotspot at the winery.
