The SpaceI am less than a mile from Downtown and just on the west side of the river. There is a bus stop a block away, and it is walking distance to restaurants, local night life, the zoo. The neighborhood hit, The Tip Top, has local and national bands, cheap drinks, and is a few hundred feet away. I can set-up three single beds, and have an air mattress if you need more. The apartment is yours for the length of the stay. There is free wireless, and I can accommodate other requests if needed. I like to hear about why you are in town, and know Grand Rapids very well if you need suggestions for fun. I will stay out of your hair after the initial meeting, so you can enjoy our lovely city too :-) Guest AccessThere is a front door with a keypad. Please verify with me that you have the correct address and code at least 24 hours prior to your arrival. I have more than one apartment at this location. My preference is that guests do not "explore" the building and/or disturb others during their stay. Interaction with GuestsI like to say hi and hear about your trip. I am here to help and make it a pleasant experience - feel free to ask questions, but I won't be in your business or nosey. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood gets feisty in the summertime as you might expect near downtown. Please understand this is a diverse and mostly rental community just outside of downtown. There are no cul de sacs or white picket fences. The only way to get closer to downtown is to get a hotel. Getting AroundI am on a bus line, and downtown isn't bad if you like walking. I have a few bikes in nicer weather if requested. G.R. has Uber, bike taxis, regular taxis, and I am happy to point the way to great places. Other Things to NoteThere have been a couple picky reviews from first time users. This is a place to sleep without HBO or mints on the pillows. I enjoy providing a place for guests traveling on a budget.

Other Things to Note*Grand Rapids Short Term Rental Ordinance: Please note the license number at the top of the page indicates we are legally licensed by the City of Grand Rapids through a newly created Short Term Rental Ordinance. This license is now required for all Airbnb operators in Grand Rapids, and also means our home has been inspected and passed fire and safety regulations [all Airbnb hosts are legally required to post this license on the listing]. A note to our past guests: this new ordinance also limits Airbnb hosts to one room and a maximum of two adults. We regretfully are unable to rent our additional two rooms at this time.

The SpaceBedroom is on the second floor with two windows, so there is a lot of natural light. The bed is a full size bed. The room also has a large closet for hanging clothes and an empty dresser for storage. I have central air conditioning in the summer time and central heat in the winter. Sometimes the house is cold in the winter (old house, bad insulation), so the room also comes equipped with a space heater and and extra quilt. Also sometimes the doors stick, especially in the summer months when the wood swells. Bathroom is semi-shared; I mostly use the bathroom downstairs so the upstairs bathroom is largely for guest use only. I provide towels, but no soap or shampoo - you'll need to bring your own toiletries. Of course, if you forget something we certainly can work something out! There are three cats that live on the premises - I try very hard to keep up with the cat hair, but this is probably not a place for someone with allergies. I keep the guest room door closed to keep it as pet hair free as humanly possible. There is off street parking available and it is easy to find a place; the spots are unmetered. In the winter (Nov-Mar), opposite side snow-plowing rules apply and you'll need to move your car back and forth across the street in the evenings. Spots are ample so this is usually not a big deal - I do it every day! I do not provide breakfast, but I do provide self service tea and coffee in the kitchen. Guest AccessGuests have access to the living room, kitchen, dining room, patio and both bathrooms. Washer/Dryer located in the basement and is free. Basically, you have access to the entire house except for my bedroom and office (which are connected). Interaction with GuestsI will interact with my guests as much as they would like; I'm happy to give recommendations and chats, or I'm also happy to leave people alone. There is plenty of space in the house! I rented part of my apartment when I lived in New York City for the better part of a year on AirBnb and I enjoyed getting to meet new and interesting people. The NeighborhoodHeritage Hill is one of the historic districts in Grand Rapids. The houses date from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. It's a unique area and many of the houses are architecturally different from one another; there is a self-guided walking tour of the area, and we have a house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright (tours Tuesday and Sunday)! I'm biased, but this is my favorite area of Grand Rapids. Getting AroundThere isn't a lot of public transportation in Grand Rapids, but my house is very near a bus stop. Also, cabs and Ubers from downtown are cheap - during non-surge pricing, an Uber from anywhere downtown is usually $5-7. Other Things to NoteLong term guests are welcome! Please note that due to my travel schedule, I am only accepting long term guests May-August. Many people come to Grand Rapids for the beer culture, so here are the distances from my house to each of the local breweries: B.O.B.'s Brewing: 1.1mi Brewery Vivant: 0.9 mi Elk Brewing: 1 mi Founders: 1.5 mi Harmony Brewing Co: 1.7 mi Hideout Brewing Co: 5.3 mi HopCat (beer bar & they brew some of their own): 1 mi The Mitten Brewing Co: 2.4 mi Perrin Brewing Co: 8.6 mi There are also two distilleries: Flat Landers: 0.6 mi Long Road Distillers: 2.4 mi

The SpaceThe apartment is a one bedroom unit in a three unit house built in 1890. It is recently updated with new appliances and a comfortable memory foam mattress. For groups larger than two people there is an air mattress. It is a simple, clean apartment in a great location for exploring Grand Rapids. The street is a densely populated city environment in a historic district. There is a window unit AC in the bedroom that cools the place very nicely in the summer. Note: there is no TV! But there is wi-fi, feel free to stream Netflix on your iPad or phone or laptop. This apartment is very close to everything downtown. Walk to the Medical Mile, breweries, museums, colleges, restaurants, and bars! A great deal for this location! Hotels downtown book up very quickly and are difficult to find under $200 per night. During Art Prize they are $400.. Parking is available free on the street. You may get lucky and find parking right in front of the house, or you may have to go around the block. I have always found parking within a block of the house every time I am there. The most ideal way to go downtown is to park your car and then walk and Uber in inclement weather. Then when you arrive downtown you won't have to pay for parking. Guest AccessYou will have access to the apartment through the front entry way. You will notice as you enter that the washer and dryer are in the foyer. There was no other place in this old house to put them! I am constantly doing laundry with people coming and going so there will be sheets and towels in the foyer being washed. There really is no other place to put them, so hopefully this won't bother you. Interaction with GuestsPlease message me if you need help with anything. I'll be available by text or call anytime. The NeighborhoodHeritage Hill is the largest historical residential district in the United States and has a wonderful collection of beautiful old homes. The neighborhood is close to all the downtown action and is super walkable! There are great restaurants and cafes and shopping. A great deal to stay downtown! Downtown hotels are usually booked on the weekend and are over $200 a night. Getting AroundA walkable neighborhood and close to bus lines. Also VERY short Uber or Lyft ride to downtown and theaters, concert venues, restaurants, etc! Leave your car parked here and just walk or Uber downtown. It's the easiest way to get around. Other Things to NoteThis is a downstairs apartment so you will hear people upstairs walking about and such.

The SpaceThis is a funky third story walk up apartment. It is at the top of a giant 19th-century industrialist's home. The bedroom is actually located in a castle turret! The apartment was installed much later on, as the 3rd floor used to be a giant ballroom. Plumbing was added MUCH later. So the toilet sometimes takes several flushes. And the shower takes a couple of minutes to heat up. A lot of the furniture is used. I inherited it this way. The queen bed is comfortable enough, but it sits on a full size box spring. Space heaters keep the place warm. Plenty of closet space. This is my personal living space. I only list it when I am out of town. Please be respectful. Feel free to make yourself coffee, tea, toast, and/or oatmeal for breakfast. Any fruit and vegetables left in the apartment are yours to enjoy. But the rest of the food and drinks (i.e. alcohol) are not included in the price. Dishwashing is not included in the rent. There will be a $30 fee if you do not wash the dishes prior to departing. The apartment comes equipped with high-speed wireless internet, a smart tv, and a small portable dishwasher. A friend of mine will meet you with the key and show you around the space. Guest AccessThe whole place. Interaction with GuestsI only list this space when I am out of town. The NeighborhoodHeritage Hill is amazing! Other Things to NoteAbundant street parking.

The SpaceOur private studio suite is located within what we jokingly call the "East Wing" of our 100+ year old home. It has its own front door and is locked off from the rest of the house, so you'll be able to rest at ease knowing that you won't be sharing with others. Traditional glass windows wrap around the sunroom, creating a perfect place to drink coffee in the morning and sit on the couch while the sun sets. The suite offers a full kitchen and bathroom with a queen size bed. Guest AccessYou will be able to enter via your own private front door (front left if facing from the road) by key code and will have access to our front yard. We have one available parking spot in the back of the house to the right but visitors are more than welcome to park on the street if driving up the driveway poses any problems. Interaction with GuestsIf at any point you need help or have a question throughout your stay, you will have my number and I will do my best to assist you. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is part of the historical Heritage Hill district of Grand Rapids. Home owners in this area go to great lengths to keep up to code to preserve the aesthetics of this old neighborhood. A half block away is the Meyer May House designed by Frank Llyod Wright and is considered Michigan's Prairie masterpiece. Getting AroundWe are 5 blocks from dinning at the Wealthy Street area and 10 from the heart of downtown Grand Rapids. Because we live so close to everything, my wife and I love to walk around our city and every week we walk up to Wealthy Street for tacos at Donkey (you gotta try it!). We are conveniently located 1.5 blocks from public transit and Grand Rapids has Uber if you need a ride.

The SpaceMy home was built in 1904- the rooms are all small with quirky shapes. It is furnished with lots of old and repurposed items giving it a creative vibe. I lean toward minimalism so it's uncluttered and yet welcoming. Furniture and art are thoughtfully arranged to create a warm and soothing space. Two friendly kitties live here and will greet you during your stay. The guest bedroom is a main floor room with a queen-sized bed. You'll find a closet and a small chest of drawers for your belongings. The house has one bathroom located next to the bedroom. While there is no central air conditioning, a window fan is in the closet if you want it, as is a space heater for cool nights. I provide linens and towels for you during your stay. Grand Rapids City Permit #10 License Number: HOB-16-0133. Guest AccessFeel free to relax in the living room or dining room. You may also enjoy the wild backyard garden with outdoor seating and a hammock for two. Keep edibles in the fridge or enjoy hot tea. If you'd like to check-in earlier than 4:00PM, let me know and I'll do what I can to make that happen. Interaction with GuestsOne of the best things about hosting visitors to Grand Rapids, is meeting new people and building community through conversation and shared experiences. I work and play hard so I may not be here to greet you on arrival but I will provide instructions to get in the house. I'm also available via text or call to answer questions. Feel free to let me know about your interests so I can make recommendations about some of my favorite restaurants and shops. The NeighborhoodMy neighborhood is within walking distance of many great local eats. Fuel up with a coffee at Common Ground or enjoy lunch at the Schnitz Deli. Enjoy curry at The Palace of India, coney dogs at Yesterdogs and creole at Chez Olga. If you prefer shopping, consider Spirit Dreams in Eastown or Clothing Matters in the Cherry Diamond district- both a 10 minute walk away. If breweries are your thing, GR is the place to be! Try Harmony Brewing and their wood-fired pizza, Brewery Vivant and their duck nachos or Founders' unique sandwiches. Art Prize venues are a 10 minute drive downtown. If you want to stay in a quiet neighborhood away from the city traffic and crowds, this is a perfect spot. My home is just off Fulton, so it's a straight shot downtown whether traveling by bus, bike, car or Uber. Getting AroundMy place is only minutes from 196 and 131 so its convenient for getting around the greater Grand Rapids area. "The Rapid" is Grand Rapids local transit system and bus stops are only a block away from my house. Situated in a quiet neighborhood, it's still close to downtown - about a 5 minute drive. Uber or taxi service are great options for getting around without a car. Greyhound and Amtrak have stations right downtown and The Gerald Ford International airport is 16 minutes away. Other Things to NoteAs an avid motorcyclist and budding mechanic, I welcome other motorcyclists. My home is also LGBT friendly. Two kitties live here - one is shy but they are both friendly and like to be petted. Jake is the grey one and Sasha is the small black one with the squeaky meow. There is a pet door so don't worry about letting them in or out while coming and going- they can get back in.

The SpaceThis apartment is attached to the back of my house. It is a small space in a fun neighborhood roughly a mile from downtown. It has 2 bedrooms, a full bath and a small kitchenette. There are chairs in both bedrooms but there isn't a living room so if you want to spend a ton of time inside, this might not fit your needs. If you're here to see the city, this is a great place to call home away from home! Guest AccessGreat little apartment attached to the back of my house. There is a back entrance so you'll have plenty of privacy and freedom to come and go without ever needing me here. Interaction with GuestsLet me know if you have any questions about restaurants, transportation, etc. I'm more than happy to help however I can! The NeighborhoodAmazing historic community with parks, restaurants, coffee shops, shopping, etc close by. Getting AroundUber is my favorite in this area but there are also buses and cabs close by.

The SpaceThe Cozy Corner Bungalow is a single bedroom with full bed on the main level of my home with amazing natural light and fresh air when the windows are open. It's temperature is easily adjusted for your comfort. I do have central AC as well for the hot summer months, but this space stays quite cool in the summer. You are free to use most rooms in my home. The kitchen is available for preparing any food you might bring bring (there is a mini fridge, coffee pot and microwave in your room as well) as well as my lower level living room for youtube, HBOGO and Netflix watching (your accounts). I have a Chromecast for the guests to use, but no cable television. There are three bathrooms in the house, one on each level. While guests are visiting, I shower and get ready in the morning in other bathrooms, leaving the closest one to your room free for you to use. I may use it briefly here and there, but it's yours to use in the mornings. WIFI is available. I also provide coffee, tea, some light breakfast foods and a few beers (qty varies depending on your length of stay) in the mini fridge and grey storage cubes in your room. There is also an umbrella for you to borrow should it rain, and for safety, I hung a fire extinguisher in your closet, you never know! (And I'm not sure if people ever see it in there, so I'm posting it right here :) I will most likely be in the home while you are here, I'm very friendly, but am also open to giving you your space if you're looking for that. It's really up to you. My neighborhood is nice and quiet. It's two miles north from downtown, and just a couple blocks from the amazing Riverside Park. There you can feed ducks, run, play disc golf, fish, launch a boat if you have one, or just mingle. It's very nice and spacious. I'm also working on a fire pit area in the back yard currently. I built the fence last Summer so we have a bit more privacy. Feel free to enjoy a small fire and drink a beer as your leisure, but please keep the noise down after dark and the fires small. If you're a runner, it's 1/2 mile downhill to the park / river, and the park itself is about a mile long in the north south direction along the river. The cabs in Grand Rapids are ok, but I would highly recommend using UBER. A trip to downtown from here is around $5-$7 and they arrive in less than 5 minutes. I may also have some bikes to borrow depending on weather (not during winter) but no helmets currently, sorry. i do have a lock for you to borrow. Guest AccessThere is a digital keypad on the back door, and I will provide a code for you to use while you are staying. This makes coming and going very easy, as well as safe, as I change the code after each guest departs. Interaction with GuestsI will most likely be around, and as much or as little interaction is fine. I'm usually in my garage doing woodworking or out at a brewery with friends. The NeighborhoodIt's a quiet little Creston Neighborhood street 2 miles north of downtown Grand Rapids. I live on a corner in a cozy bungalow with lots of shade from the trees. You're a 20 minute bike ride to downtown, and a 5 minute walk to the amazing Riverside Park along the Grand River. Getting AroundUber is a very nice way to get downtown easily, and cheaply. If you have bicycles (or perhaps rent mine?) you can ride to breweries with ease. I currently have two classic Schwinn bicycles you can borrow as well! I do not have helmets to lend yet though, so I expect guests to exercise extreme caution. I may have helmets in the future, but until then, you should know bicycling in a city is dangerous. Basically use at your own risk. :) Other Things to NoteI do have soaps, shampoo and conditioners as well. I grab them when I travel for work :-) They are located in the bathroom medicine cabinet. For those business travelers, my home is located: 5.3 miles from Meijer Headquarters (~8 minutes) 8.6 miles from Amway (~16 minutes) 12.1 miles from Steelcase (~19 minutes) 14.9 miles from Wolverine Worldwide (~20 minutes) For fun ideas on things to do please just ask me or check out my "guidebook" here on airbnb. I listed a ton of my favorite spots. Grand Rapids HOB License Number HOB-15-0095

The SpaceCozy space with some new and some older charm. There is a queen bed and a loft twin bed. Please note: It is more kitchenette than full kitchen. There is a "hot plate", microwave, and small fridge. There is not a stove/oven in this unit. The shower is in the same room as the kitchenette (due to space constraints). It is a unique set up, but hopefully everything you need to stay for a day or a few. Guest AccessThere is a front door with a keypad. Please verify with me that you have the correct address and code at least 24 hours prior to your arrival. I have more than one apartment at this location. My preference is that guests do not "explore" the building and/or disturb others during their stay. Interaction with GuestsLet me know if you have any questions or need recommendations for the area. I have lived here for about 15 years and know Grand Rapids well. I am happy to provide toiletries or any items you need to make your stay more comfortable. The NeighborhoodThe trade off with being VERY close to downtown and a college campus is that there are no cul-de-sacs, or white picket fences in this neighborhood. It is not a dangerous neighborhood. There are restaurants, bars, and grocery within walking distance. Getting AroundThere is free year round parking on the street right out front. There are regular buses that run on this street. Grand Rapids has many taxi services and Uber. Other Things to NoteThis is not an apartment for strangers. I can maybe accommodate 4 guests by adding an airbed in the kitchenette area, but more than that will probably be cramped. Check out my other listing at the same location for bigger groups.
