Gregg is quite used to living and working around guests, so very communicative and respectful of privacy and space, he's also impossible to disturb. Make yourselves completely at home and comfortable. We're fixing up this house for you. If you would like to book the Fire Room use listing "Detroit Loves You ~ all 5 Rooms" The NeighborhoodPIETY HILL NEIGHBORHOOD... Piety Hill is an old, authentic central Detroit neighborhood; a quiet bedroom community named after the many gorgeous historic churches on nearby Woodward Ave. Compared with other Detroit neighborhoods, ours is quiet, friendly, and low crime, yet still emerging from the poverty, blight, and abandonment Detroit is infamous for. DLY is surrounding by an ever-increasing cluster of bright spots of development, including a children's park across the street, community development corporation, laundromat/fitness center & trail, market & commercial kitchen, aquaponics facility, dozens of rehabbed homes, an orchard & several community gardens - next up a community center across the street! As shocking as Detroit's decay can be at first, the direction of change is undeniable and its pace accelerating. SAFETY... Those not familiar with urban neighborhoods may mistake poverty for danger. Overcoming these mental projections to see the "gold beneath the grime" is part of what Detroit Loves You's mission is all about. Hundreds of guests have checked in over 5 years, so everyone in the community knows DLY, and nearby stores are very welcoming to guests who support them. Detroit's terrible reputation is overblown & outdated. It's actually safer for visitors than many other big US cities, and like most it looks far worse than it really is. Downtown is incredibly clean & secure - more so than many of our flashy suburbs. We advise guests to use basic street smarts (look & walk confidently, be aware of your environment, avoid unpopulated areas, use the buddy system at night, etc.) and remove or hide GPSs, chargers and other valuables in cars. DEE-TROIT CITY... Heidelberg Project to hipsters, Motown to mashups, derelict ruins to DIY culture, urban gardens and some of the friendliest people you'll meet this side of Polynesia – Detroit holds so much to discover! Just let us know what you're interested in and we'll be happy to give you recommendations for dining, art, nature, nightlife, biking, UrbEx, local events & more. Detroit is a city of contrasts. Its reality is sometimes stark, often artistic, and always expressed from the Heart. Come experience Detroit from the inside. Whether here for a day or the season, you'll soon feel the Detroit Love that drives us. Try saying hello to a stranger - it's the Detroit way. The SpaceWelcome to The Detroit Homestead, a working urban farm and guest home located in the heart of Detroit! In September of 2012, we purchased and began renovating this circa-1916 brick duplex because of its convenient location in a friendly neighborhood and historic features. Now, we are happy to be a home away from home to travelers from around the world! THE BIRD ROOM at The Detroit Homestead is a newly renovated and colorfully appointed private QUEEN-sized bedroom with a ceiling fan, closet, and southwest-facing window overlooking our urban farm. In addition to your private room, when you stay at The Homestead, you also have access to the ENTIRE first-floor guest flat, which includes a dedicated KITCHEN and pantry for guests, BATHROOM with enclosed clawfoot tub/shower and bidet, (free!) LAUNDRY, and spacious DINING AND LIVING ROOMS with hand built and restored furniture! We have a spacious yard for pets to run around, a brick-lined FIRE PIT, and a ROPE SWING if you're feeling playful! We even have BICYCLES available for you to rent during your visit to Detroit (maintained and repaired by us, in our basement bike shop)! And if you need to print a boarding pass, we've got you covered there, too! Additional booking options available at The Detroit Homestead through AirBnB include: ~THE SEA ROOM: KING-sized PRIVATE bedroom with closet, ceiling fan, dresser and double window overlooking our urban farm; ~THE BUNK ROOM: a purpose-built room with FOUR TWIN-sized BUNK BEDS, each with individual light, work space, and privacy curtain AND a single-person HAMMOCK! ~ENTIRE first-floor guest flat In addition to the indoor portions of The Homestead, our urban farm is a critical part of our efforts here in Detroit. Although still small (though expanding!), the farm already gives us more fresh organically grown produce than we can use! We don’t believe in wasting what we have, so anything we can’t use or preserve goes to neighbors, friends, and GUESTS! If you stay with us during the spring, summer, and fall months, feel free to take a stroll through the garden with us and grab some fresh produce! We may even invite you to help us do some canning! The cost of your rental directly funds operation of and further improvements to The Homestead…by us! And since we occupy the upstairs flat at The Homestead, keeping the house clean, safe, well organized, and well maintained is our highest priority, while still respecting the privacy and plans of guests! Future projects towards which your rental will be contributed are: continued development of adjacent lots into farmland to provide vegetables, fruits, eggs, honey, and cheese for house and local residents, continued improvement to our bicycle repair and rental shop in the basement by your hosts (also trained bicycle mechanics), and collaboration with other groups and individuals making a positive impact on our city…one quiet, unassuming residential block at a time. Be an active part of the transformation of Detroit by helping us to improve our property, our neighborhood, and our city! Can't wait to see you here at The Homestead! Alyssa & Matt Guest AccessINCLUDED IN EVERY BOOKING -Shared (only if there are other guests) bathroom with vanity mirror, bidet, clawfoot tub, and 7'-tall shower -Shared (only if there are other guests) kitchen with pantry, gas stove, full fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee grinder and maker, rice maker, mixer, and a multitude of spices and other cooking supplies (just ask if you don't see something that you need!) -Keys upon arrival -Clean linens and towels -Wireless internet -Washer and dryer in basement (free!) -Fire pit with seating and rope swing outside -Additional information, advice, and tips regarding your stay at any time! Interaction with GuestsYOUR HOSTS (Alyssa and Matt): The Detroit Homestead is our home, business, and life, which means that we're almost always here. Conveniently, though, the building is a duplex, which means that while we're always on hand for guests' arrivals, departures, and to address any questions or concerns that may arise, we are uniquely able to create with a home-away-from-home atmosphere, with as much privacy and personal space as guests like. Guest space occupies the entire first floor flat, while your hosts reside in the second floor flat. You may also see us in the garden, traversing the stairs down to the basement/workshop/bike shop, or to clean/maintain guest space, but we do our best to make sure guests can enjoy as much time alone as they desire. The NeighborhoodOUR NEIGHBORHOOD: The Virginia Park neighborhood is located smack in the center of Detroit within about a 10-15 minute drive (or 30 minute bike ride) of most of the city. We're a friendly, family neighborhood with deep historic roots and a rapidly changing landscape that includes many long-time residents and new faces both, a good view of both Detroit's history as well as its future. Our neighborhood has a spacious residential character, and though still just a short car/bike ride away, you won't find the kind of dense city nightlife where there are bars or venues within walking distance here. What you will find is a quiet place to rest and catch your breath from the busier parts of the city, a community of friendly kids and neighbors, and some unparalleled porch sitting with the fireflies on display over the garden the tune of crickets in the air (at least in the summer). Practically speaking, The Detroit Homestead is located just a block away from a community center, several stores (including grocery and pharmacy), and small branch police station, but not within walking distance of many other businesses currently. Detroit is a little too large for walking to be a practical method of transportation between neighborhoods, so we recommend wheels of some sort or another to get around efficiently. Approximate travel time for several neighborhoods is given for driving/biking below. ~New Center (Fisher Building, shops, restaurants, hospital, professional offices): 5/5 minutes ~Midtown (Wayne State University, DIA and other museums, shopping, library, bars and restaurants): 10/20 minutes ~Hamtramck (Polish/Mediterannean food, shopping, loads of dive bars and local music): 10/20 minutes ~Eastern Market (food, bars, farmer's market, art galleries, print shops, distilleries): 15/20 minutes ~Corktown (currently the densest, hippest part of town with a lot of old and new bars, restaurants, venues, and shopping): 15/25 minutes ~Southwest/Mexicantown (food, street/public art, small shops): 15/25 minutes ~Downtown (Sports stadiums, COBO center, tons of amazing architecture, food, bars, venues, shopping): 15/20 minutes ~Belle Isle (State park on an island between Detroit and Canada, beach, conservatory, aquarium, nature): 20/40 minutes ~Dearborn (Middle Eastern food, businesses, shopping, Henry Ford Museum): 25/45 minutes Getting AroundGETTING AROUND: -Bus: several city bus lines are within just a few blocks on Cass Ave, Woodward Ave, Rosa Parks Bvd, Grand River Ave, and 14th St. -Car: located just two blocks away from M-10, it's easy to get to and from The Detroit Homestead via Detroit's freeways, by surface roads, we are located ~5 min from New Center and Henry Ford Hospital, ~10 min from Wayne State University/Midtown, and ~15 min from Mexicantown/Southwest Detroit, Corktown, Hamtramck, and Downtown Detroit. -Bike: Detroit is a perfect city for bikes - flat, straight, and lots of room! If you would like to see the city on two wheels, just ask and we can set you up with one of our rental bikes for a nominal, $15/day (includes lock and lights)! With a range of styles and sizes, we're pretty sure you'll be able to pick out a trusty steed for your time in Detroit! Other Things to NoteSAFETY: We understand that Detroit may have a gritty reputation and that its exterior may seem off putting to some. However, living in Detroit is not markedly more dangerous than other cities and safety can be assured by employing common sense, basic street smarts, and situational awareness. In order to minimize risks, we encourage guests to remove valuable items from vehicles, curb their tires when parking in the city, store bicycles indoors, and lock up when departing The Homestead.

The SpaceThe space, like most of the house, is in a stage of renovation. The fourth wall is only drywall and what would be two closets between your room and the adjacent room is not complete. Unique set of artists, teachers, and activists sharing what was once a Motown Musical wizard's home. The home is full of "do energy" and creative vibes! We are friendly, busy people who welcome guests of all shapes, backgrounds, etc. but you must be accepting and realize our space is a shared space. We prefer people to book by the week at least. We might refuse a 2 night stay as it is just too much work for the great price we offer. Our space promises company if you want it, fun, openness and acceptance but it is NOT a hotel nor do we have maid service. Therefore, it is not spotless, but usually tidy and certainly livable. If you think it is too untidy PLEASE say something to us as we appreciate feedback of all kinds to our faces or privately. We have a very large yard and to us our space is a city oasis because it is beautiful and mostly quiet but within minutes of all the action. Guest AccessAccess to all common rooms: kitchen, living room, dining room, back deck, gardens, drive, porch, bathroom--mi casa es su casa--just clean up after yourself please! Interaction with GuestsWe all have different schedules--some are early birds (5 a.m.) and some are night owls (going to bed at 5 a.m. on weekends) but we are all conscientious, quiet, and have jobs. Some of us love a good acoustic jam, shared yoga space, and you are always sure to find someone to talk to if you so desire. We also respect privacy and individual needs. We are between the ages of 22-44 but we are child friendly for the respectful family. The NeighborhoodDetroit is very pocketed. Our house is on Boston, a neighborhood with roughly 8 blocks of amazing historic homes. However, Just around the corner Oakland looks quite different, and Detroit changes when you go east/west/north/south just a matter of blocks. Our hood is wonderful, but in Detroit street to street things change rapidly. We are also within cycling distance of Hamtramck which is an old Polish neighborhood with a small town feel and all the great food, shopping and restaurants you will need. The other direction there is the Midtown University district which is also attractive. Getting AroundPublic transit is good (in Detroit terms) on Woodward Ave, the main avenue coming out of downtown and only a few blocks up from the house. It is the ONLY reliable service called the SMART bus. Any other bus system is sadly unreliable. We will consider loaning a bicycle (bring your lock!) as we all cycle most places. We have parking on the street or in our backyard for anyone staying over 5 days (but only one car, please!) Other Things to NoteWe prefer people to book by the week at least. We might refuse a 2 night stay as it is just too much work for the great price we offer We welcome anyone who is positive about Detroit. No racists or fearmongerers here please. Detroit is a city with the bad parts of any city, but many, many more good parts than most. Music, food, and ethnic diversity makes Detroit very unique and while one must be cautious as one should be in any metropolis, the people here are friendly and helpful. More so than most other U.S. cities we have been in.

The NeighborhoodPIETY HILL NEIGHBORHOOD... THE BUNK ROOM at The Detroit Homestead is a cozy, PRIVATE, purpose-built bunk room with FOUR TWIN-sized BUNK BEDS, each including a reading light, work space, and privacy curtain AND a single-person HAMMOCK! Perfect for groups and individuals traveling on a budget! Additional booking options available at The Detroit Homestead through AirBnB include: ~THE SEA ROOM: KING-sized PRIVATE bedroom with closet, ceiling fan, dresser and double window overlooking our urban farm; ~THE BIRD ROOM: QUEEN-sized PRIVATE bedroom with closet, ceiling fan, and double window overlooking our urban farm; ~ENTIRE first-floor guest flat In addition to the indoor portions of The Homestead, our urban farm is a critical part of our efforts here in Detroit. Alyssa & Matt Guest AccessINCLUDED IN EVERY BOOKING -Shared (only if there are other guests) bathroom with vanity mirror, bidet, clawfoot tub, and 7'-tall shower -Shared (only if there are other guests) kitchen with pantry, gas stove, full fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee grinder and maker, rice maker, mixer, and a multitude of spices and other cooking supplies (just ask if you don't see something that you need!) -Keys upon arrival -Clean linens and towels -Wireless internet -Washer and dryer in basement -Fire pit with seating and rope swing outside -Additional information, advice, and tips regarding your stay at any time!

And if you need to print a boarding pass, we've got you covered there, too! In addition to the indoor portions of The Homestead, our urban farm is a critical part of our efforts here in Detroit. Interaction with GuestsYOUR HOSTS (Alyssa & Matt): The Detroit Homestead is our home, business, and life, which means that we're almost always here.

The SpaceThis is a large house located on the edge of Hamtramck in Detroit. The apartment which has three guest rooms is on the upper level. I stay in the attic and and have studio space in the house. The lower windows are still boarded up. I love music, and have a big space in my heart for Detroit music :) It's nice to relax in the evening over a few beers, with some nice music playing. In the summer we like to sit in the garage, which is a small art space. A few former guests have built some of the murniture or painted a mural. Thanks!!!! You enter the house through a lower flat studio space which is under construction. The house is called KEINHAUS , and is located in a diverse and artistic neighboorhood. with people living here from all over the world. This is a good space to stay for a longer period of time, or if you are interested in arts / music/ research. Hamtramck is a diverse walkable community surrounded on foursides, like an island by Detroit. It was a small downtown with a european feel, bars , shopping, and restraunts from all over the world, bangledesh, polish. yeman. It is 4 miles from midtown detroit, although you may just want to explore here(URL HIDDEN) I love Detroit! Help yourself to any fruit / coffee / tea / etc. There are towels in the bathroom. If you need soap or shampoo help yourself. BEDROOM: This is a tiny cozy nook bedroom with a single bed, and fold out desk. ( really really tiny) but cozy and dreamy PETS: sam a ginger cat is very cuddly and friendly. He will sleep on your bed if you do not shut the door. Dilla is a big black dog, who likes to cuddle. KITCHEN: for now I will have to say there is no kitchen, but there is a fridge, a coffee maker, and a toaster oven WIFI : sorry wifi is currently down, hope to fix this soon!!1 BATHROOM: Bathroom is on the second floor, shower, toilet, sink. OTHER: Front porch/backyard with fireplace/Event space BIKES AVAILABLE for rent ARTISTS/MUSICIANS/MAKERS I also run the space as an art residency space, and am open to proposals for events/exhibitions/residencies etc/ Parking: On street or in garage Guest Accessdownstairs/backyyard/front porch Interaction with GuestsMy space has a bit of a youth hostel feeling. Sometimes there are concerts or events here. The gallery located behind me often has openings. I am staying in the space as well, and hope to be around for at least a drink with you. I love detroit. Getting AroundDetroit does not have good public transport but there are some buses. I am an advid biker and bike everywhere. Hamtramck is walkable.

The SpaceClean, cozy home in a great urban community! Walking distance from bus stops and many of the main attractions in Hamtramck, MI. Nice, open living room and updated kitchen. Lots of beautiful house plants. No central A/C but there are fans and a window in the guest room. House stays relatively cool in the Summer months. Heat in the Winter, of course. Guest AccessFor check in: Please schedule a time and place for check-in with host. Free Netflix and high speed Wifi. Room is completely private although adjacent to mine. Large, spacious bathroom. Clean sheets and towels. Guests may utilize any utensils/dishes in the kitchen so long as they are washed upon use. Help yourself to tea and coffee. Breezy, open living room is the perfect place to do yoga in the morning! Street parking only Outdoor smoking only Interaction with GuestsThis is a shared unit. I work a regular job during the week and I'm off on the weekends. Some nights I may sit and talk with you, others I will want to be alone. It's an introvert thing :) I would love to show you around town by car or bike, perhaps share some wine with you if that's your kind of thing. HOWEVER: It is not appropriate to ask me out on dates! Keep it 100% professional please and thanks. The NeighborhoodHighly culturally diverse, Hamtramck is described as "the world in 2 square miles". Lots of ethnic food, live music, cultures and religions represented, and many community events. Located within the somewhat East Side of the city of Detroit. Getting AroundDriving and biking are the best ways to get around Detroit. You can use my bike to explore, just be careful to lock it up if you go inside somewhere. I encourage guests to make use of the App "Uber", as the "Smart bus" system in Detroit is not the greatest. *Note that if you do decide to take the bus it takes a long time, you must use cash, and the price will depend on where you go. When I can, I will be happy to show you the sights by bike or by car. There is NO train system or Metro in Detroit. Other Things to NoteI have one Calico cat named Marbles. She is indoors so please DO NOT let her outside! She is very sweet and you shouldn't ever have any problems with her other than she might want to lay in your lap *Please be mindful of electricity and turn off all electrical devices when not in use or when you leave a room. It really bothers me when people sit around watching TV and wasting electricity ALL DAY long. I have had guests do this and then I end up with a $150 electricity bill! I assume if you are traveling you must have something to do during the day. If not, let me know I can give you some ideas :)

The SpaceWe are artists and have filled the space with art from ourselves & other artists who have lived in our place. The ping pong table was handcrafted by us and it can be used as a large dining table, work space, or hung on the wall for a wide open space. Great for yoga or dance studio, or to lay down extra beds. One room has a brand new queen posturepedic bed, other room has bunk beds with 2 twin mattresses, there is also an extra twin mattress that can be put on the floor, living room has 1 couch and a full size futon. Each bedroom has a window air conditioning unit. Full kitchen with everything you need. Free wifi and plenty of street parking out front. Guest AccessYou can use also use the front porch with table/chairs. Interaction with GuestsWe own the 4 unit building and live in one of the upstairs units, so if you need anything we are on premises. We would be happy to interact as much as we are able and can surely help give great information to people about getting around and cool things that are happening during their stay. The NeighborhoodOur block has big beautiful trees, a produce market around the corner, playgrounds nearby, organic community gardens, and great coffee shop 10-15 min walk. City Center is a 5 min drive or 10 min bike ride. Please note the area is in a location of the city that is in transition as vacant homes are being fixed up. Our building is safe as there are always people around. We walk in the neighborhood during the day but do not recommend walking around after dark. Best grocery store is Whole Foods which is a 7min drive from us. Getting AroundPublic transportation is not the greatest and not safe to walk to/from at night. Most guests come and go with their own car or use Uber, which is very reliable and affordable. Street parking is out front and we have never had any issues with car vandalism, just don't leave valuables in car. Other Things to NoteLong term guests staying a month or longer will need to sign a temporary rental agreement and pay a $400 security deposit, which will be refunded at end of your stay as long as no damage has been done to the property. Laundry is only for long term guests (1 month or longer). There is a laundromat nearby if needed.

My response is: Yes, is as safe, but like any big city, always have an extra eye out. Be mindful of your surroundings and don't leave things like bags, GPS, phones etc visible in your car. Hamtramck has it's own police force & fire department and they are very present. As far as Detroit goes, it gets more of a bad rap then what is actually going on. The SpaceGet out into nature while staying just 5-10 minutes from downtown Detroit! The Ark is surrounded by four acres of urban farmland where the pheasants are the loudest annoyances around. The 200-square-foot shipping container house is heated by a wood stove and powered by solar panels, and includes a loft bed that fits 1-2, couch, kitchen & living area, stereo, refrigerator, wifi, hot shower plus an outdoor composting toilet. This is a great place to experience a different side of the city but a poor choice for those looking for air conditioning and cable TV. Guest AccessGuests will have use of the house for the full length of their stay, and are welcome to explore the rest of the farm, get involved in the garden or relax in the hammock. Be aware that farm work goes on daily and we are unable to host Friday nights or other times we have public events. Interaction with GuestsWe are available as needed to introduce guests to the space, and are happy to help visitors get to know the city or leave you on your own, as you prefer. The NeighborhoodWe love the history of our working class community: the fact that the Historic King Solomon Baptist Church is behind us, where Martin Luther King first gave what became known as the "I have a Dream Speech" and where Malcolm X recorded some of his most important speeches: "Message to the Grassroots," The Ballot or the Bullet," and the actual chairs and the dais are available for pictures! Mama Sandra is the first woman minister n the church's 80 year history! We love that working folks, hardly working, middle class to executives sit down at the same tables to have conversations at the Museum on how we can and will evolve our humanity by learning and practicing methods and teachings of Compassion that we evolve through our local/global practices of growing ourselves, our children, and our grandchildren. This is a space where being human means learning to love and respect our collective experience and being open to learning and remembering how to "walk together"! We teach and share these Soul Skills through some of the most creative and innovative methods that draw people from around the world. To date, we have hosted guests from up the street, and throughout the state, and nationally-too many to list here! Africa: Senegal, Egypt, Tanzania, Kenya, Namibia, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, South Africa; Europe: France, Germany, Poland, Finland, Sweden; Caribbean: Haiti, Puerto Rico; South America: Brazil; Asia: Japan, China, Korea; The Middle East: Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Yemen, Israel. While our neighborhood is undergoing a massive gentrification effort, a transition that we have had the opportunity to share through ethnography, news articles through HYMM: Hush Your Mouth Multi- Media, in documentaries (see: Harvard Visits The Hush House [a Sundance Award Winner] and In The Belly of The Beast, on YouTube) and we are very proud of our replicable and sustainable, hands on practical applications of building community in the midst of great stress and opposition. We are open to share this history of challenge, change and collaboration through ongoing opportunities for urban planners, activists, journalists, filmmakers, videographers, bloggers and educators of many fields from the US and abroad to consider, discuss and share their thoughts and practices that will help working class and hardly working class to survive such massive disruptions to community life, while we re-imagine and build what intentional Compassionate Community Building can mean across social strata and a world that includes all people. Imagine, on top of all this, because we are in the Heart of Midtown we are in the middle of everything where a walk, bike ride, bus lines even train and national bus stations are less than 10 minutes away: Comerica Park, All Museums, Medical Centers-Hospitals, Top restaurants, and the indomitable St Regis Hotel! and iconic Motown are a short walk away! Come and experience the D from the inside, a rare and wonderful journey because we care! Getting AroundWe are in the middle of Everything! The SpaceThis is a modern loft apartment housed within a completely renovated 1926 building that originally housed graphic artists for General Motors, and other companies. Designed by famed-Detroit architect Albert Kahn, you'll notice the signature art-deco front-facade and incredible lobby of the building. All the character of the loft is still intact, from the concrete floors, brick exterior wall, and the mushroom columns Albert Kahn was known for. Home includes a large kitchen, front load washer and dryer, incredibly fast internet with wifi and one bedroom with a queen-sized bed. This building is incredibly peaceful, quiet, and relaxing; while being just blocks away from anything you'd want to do in the city. Kitchen includes gas stove/oven, stainless steel sink, refrigerator, toaster, pots, pans, coffee maker, and any other utensils you need to call Detroit home for a few days. You'll find a single bedroom (this was originally a studio unit, but has been converted into a completely-walled one bedroom unit). Beautifully comfortable queen bed, small dresser, and chair. The main bathroom includes a subway tile shower/tub, sink, and any towels and amenities you'll need to make your stay perfect. Awesomely comfy white cotton sheets are included in the bedroom. The living room includes a couch (can be used for extra sleeping space, but isn't a pull-out), coffee table, and two chairs. 50" HDTV is hooked up to an Apple TV with Netflix. Outdoor space includes a small patio (which you'll enter from) with two bistro chairs and table. Enjoy the sunny back-alley of the building with a drink of your choice from the fridge. Local spots within walking/biking distance include the incredibly beautiful art-deco Fisher and Albert Kahn buildings; Midtown Shopping (Shinola, Willys, Nora, Hugh, Carhartt, Fellow Barber, City Bird, Nest, and more); the mid-century gardens and campus at Wayne State, and more. Local attractions include the city and public art, Belle Isle with its beaches, waterpark, Albert Kahn designed conservatory and aquarium, and trails. The world is your oyster. Restaurants nearby including fast food, Northern Lights Lounge, Falafill, Dangerously Delicious Pies, City Wings, Motor City Brewing Works, Jolly Pumpkin, and more. The loft is all yours while you're here. Enjoy, relax, and hang out. I prefer text and AirBnB message for communication. Taking photos during your stay? Make sure you #thatdetroitloft. Guest AccessThe loft is all yours while you're here. Enjoy, relax, and hang out. Feel free to use the computer monitor and speakers(please be careful). I'm here for you and to make your stay absolutely awesome. The NeighborhoodAwesome location right on Woodward at the Midtown/New Center border. Just a few blocks either way to a ridiculous amount of inspiration, character, activities, and restaurants. Take in the Detroit Institute of Arts, or check out the art-deco skyscrapers of New Center. Getting AroundUber, Lyft, Walk. Street parking is free. Our building is right next door to a Wayne State Police Department, meaning no shenanigans ever happen. The SpaceThis former church is a true loft, almost 2000 square feet of self-contained space with private entrance and yard. It's an unconventional but inspirational home that has been used by artists, musicians and writers. It's also a good place to meditate and practice yoga. It's unconventional but clean, secure and relaxing. People seem to feel is transformative. You can use the fireplace for additional (see "rules" for charge for firewood) ambiance and heat but don't worry - there is a forced air furnace and the place stays warm. The space is a true loft meaning there are not separate bedrooms - instead it is a very large and open space that is all yours. There's a comfortable couch and I can provide extra bedding if you want a third person to stay with you. Please review this whole listing for a full understanding of space and amenities... I'll be happy to do what I can to make sure you have the information and things that you need to feel comfortable during your stay! Guest AccessYou have access to the whole space... Laundry room Street parking Bedding, towels, and soap Kitchen supplies Closet space Fenced in back yard Hairdryer Free WIFI Couch for extra guest. Note: there is no TV Please see check-in and out times. Self check-in (I'll provide entry details to you before your stay) but I am happy to make myself available to visit you to walk you through the building. Interaction with GuestsI can offer recommendations and help you in any way - but your privacy will be respected. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is eclectic, multi-cultural and fun to explore. You can walk to some really great restaurants for a variety of cuisine - Middle Eastern, outstanding traditional Polish Food, comfort food, Indian Fare, diners and Coney Island. There are music venues and bars. You will find mom-and-pop grocery stores within walking distance. There are a couple of interesting galleries. There is a skate park. See my Airbnb "guidebook" of recommended places on the map. If you have never visited Detroit you should do some research on both Detroit and Hamtramck. Hamtramck is only two square miles and geographically surrounded by the city of Detroit. Although Hamtramck is a relatively safe neighborhood, this is not "upscale". It is an "urban neighborhood": dense and characterized by close-knit buildings and homes with a main street. Guests often compare it to parts of Brooklyn, NY. Please read "getting around". Getting AroundHamtramck is only two square miles, so it's very walkable. If you have a bike you're golden and can ride it in and out of the loft. (I can rent bikes for you if needed but you would have to pick them up.) In minutes you can drive a car or Uber to Detroit. Detroit is vast, and because Hamtramck is geographically surrounded by Detroit you won't be far from anywhere. Downtown is 10 minutes south by car. Outside of the city, suburban areas start less than 10 minutes north by car. Street parking with availability usually found right on the street block, if not right outside of the home itself. Other Things to Note• Firewood is provided on the honor system ($10 for one night, $20 for two nights or longer)

The SpaceI have a sweet little potbelly pig named Dolly, a bunny rabbit named Boosie, and a kitty cat named Heka that you are sure to fall in love with. Animal lovers only! We have three pets and they will try to love on you/make noise at you when you are in the common areas! There is WIFI, a DVD/VCR with a movie library, and a washing machine all free for you to use. Please do note that I do allow smoking in my house, which may either deter or entice you ;) Guest AccessKitchen, bathroom, living room, dining room, backyard. You have access to all of the common areas. Interaction with GuestsI love to tell people my favorite things about Detroit and help them explore my city. I'm usually pretty busy but I help guests whenever I can. The NeighborhoodThere are many wonderful places to eat in my neighborhood and Hamtramck. Cheap Bangladeshi food is abundant! Also you can get wonderful Polish food in the heart of Hamtramck at the Polish Village Cafe. But please note, I recommend that you refrain from walking around at night by yourself. My neighborhood is relatively safe, but this is Detroit and you need to be street smart. There are opportunists here who may see you as a potential target. The Hinterlands is a theater group that own and operate a theater around the block from me. If you've lucky they will be doing some kind of performance while you are visiting! You will want to check out the Design 99 houses owned by artists Mitch Cope and Gina Reichert. They rehab abandoned houses and create interesting spaces for art and community development. And of course there is always the new skate park down the street, one of the Power House Productions projects. And the Treasure Nest, our local hoarders-house-turned-art-marvel! Getting AroundPublic transportation is pretty tricky in Detroit. There are two buses that run near my house, route 12 and route 10. The Conant bus (route 12) is closer to my house. Personally, I drive now and don't use the bus system often, though it is possible and I've done so in the past. Other Things to NoteWhen it comes to bookings for more than a week, I usually only accept reservations for single travelers. My house is less than 900 square feet, and so three people living in it is manageable, but four gets chaotic.

The SpaceEnjoy the upscale decor, peaceful koi pond, your own private terrace deck, and the convenient proximity to some of Hamtramck’s destination restaurants (Polish Village Café and Polonia), which are only a 2 minute walk away. Your room has been described by dozens of guests as a relaxing oasis close to all the action. Hamtramck has been called “The World In Two Square Miles” and was originally settled by Polish immigrants. It still maintains its Eastern European feel, but now also reflects the melting pot experience with its restaurants catering to many other tastes, from Yemni to Indian to Iraqui, Bengali and Greek. This tour-stop home is minutes from restaurants visited by Anthony Bordain which serve scrumptious pierogis, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa, potato pancakes, etc., all often accompanied by live music and great beers. The SpaceMy partner Matt and I have a lovely flat in Hamtramck that has been restored to its original 1920s charm. Equipped with a queen size bed in a spacious bedroom it is perfect for a couple or close friends! There’s plenty of room for an air mattress too. The living room has a couch, eating table, chair, and bar with stools for enjoying food and beverages. The brightness and vintage style of the kitchen will warm your heart. You will love cooking in this space, not to mention you will be provided with any cooking supplies you need. But we also respect your privacy. The NeighborhoodHamtramck is touted as ‘The World in 2 Square Miles.’ Located directly in the center of Detroit, it is a diverse city that has its roots in the rise of the auto industry. Anyone who loves history will appreciate the beauty and architecture that still exists in Detroit and Hamtramck. Originally a hub for Polish immigrants Hamtramck has maintained its eastern European flair and guests will find excellent Polish restaurants, markets with delicious pierogi, keilbasa, and stuffed cabbage along with a Polish Art Center equipped with treasured artifacts and souvenirs. Hamtramck also has some excellent Bengali, Indian, Iraqi and Yemeni food! Things to see in Detroit: Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) 4.3 miles Eastern Market 4.9 miles Heidelberg Project 4.1 miles Comerica Park and Ford Field 5.6 miles Fox Theatre 5.6 miles Renaissance Center 6 miles Detroit Opera House 5.7 miles Ann Arbor (Visit U of M!) 50 miles Henry Ford Museum 16.1 miles MGM Casino 6.3 miles Greektown and Casino 5.8 miles Getting AroundHamtramck is walkable and dense. It's a tiny city that you can discover on foot within minutes. Detroit is very accessible via car....after all this is the Motor City! And of course Uber ((URL HIDDEN) is a great way to get around if you don't want to drive yourself. Other Things to NoteOur Flat is across the street from a beautiful mission-style high school that was built in 1930. It is especially beautiful in the evening with the evening sunlight. However, with a high school comes high schoolers. During weekdays school starts at 8am and ends at 3pm. Our street is busier and noisier just before 8am and for about 45 minutes after 3pm. Parking is also a bit more difficult if you arriving between those times. We have never had a guest complain about the noise but it is worth noting because high schoolers can be like flies; annoying but harmless.
