The SpaceAlthough it has changed over the years, this has been our family home for over 50 years! Sitting within six acres of forest with over 1000' of waterfront, the views the river valley offers are breathtaking. Although recently becoming better known for its natural setting, the AuSable River is also home to some of the most famous trout fishing waters in the world. Since we are unable to use it 100% of the time, we share this wonderful place with those that will value it. It's just minutes from any activity imaginable but yet, when you're sitting on the deck overlooking the river valley, it's like sitting in the middle of nowhere. With two bedrooms and a loft, we offer sleeping area for up to 11 guests. We recently upgraded the mattress in the master bedroom to a queen. Good luck sorting out who get's what room with your friends! In the 60's, our guests would have felt like they were roughing it. Now our full log home includes all of the amenities of a modern home, but yet it is still in the same spot as when it was originally built sometime in the 40's. Be sure to check out the photo albums and write in our guest book to become part of this place's history. You'll find lot's of extra's in our cupboards. If you use it, replace it. Its as simple as that! Food, drink, & toiletries cover most of what you'll need unless you are planning river activities. For those, please remember to bring up some "river shoes" and beach towels. You'll thank us after if you do! Guest AccessEverything will be setup before you arrive by our caretakers! They can provide suggestion on activities and day trips. If you're planning on hiking from our location, be respectful of others property and stay on the road and hiking trails. Window peeping is highly discouraged! There is a bonfire ring and wood next to it. Be mindful of the fire danger level before you arrive. If high or extreme, no outdoor fires are allowed without a permit. Please be very respectful of this. Instructions for all of the amenities are provided after validation and your reservation is confirmed. Interaction with GuestsNot at all......everything is set up before you arrive by our caretakers! They will stop in and make sure everything is OK. The NeighborhoodThis is a private area. There are only 6 cabins along a mile of the river. It is very peaceful! If you are looking to get away, we can't think of a better place to be. Although we may be a little biased! On the warm weekends, our guests can interact with the canoers and floaters from the water's edge or view them from the deck that overlooks the river valley. You may even get a chance to see teams practicing for the AuSable River canoe marathon or some very serious trout fisherman. Yes there are bugs and wild animals. Just come prepared and informed. Being located along the river valley offers rare sightings of birds, waterfowl, and eagles. Turkeys, deer and raccoons are also quite common. Getting AroundPublic transportation up here are hiking boots, canoes, tubes, kayaks, skis, snow shoes, snowmobiles, quads, horses, etc. They can all be rented locally or bring your own! Other Things to NoteIt is our home. We ask that you treat it as if it was yours. For our long term guests, there will be an additional fee to cover utility costs especially throughout the winter months. Yes it does get cold up there! Sorry, smoking is not allowed due to the fire danger. For those that do, please pick up your butts! There is a small store less than 1 mile away for "emergency" items. You're only 10 minutes from two small towns to get the things you forgot!

Listen to the call of the loons from a modern, 3 bedroom, 2 bath A-frame house located on the shores of serene, 415 acre Avery Lake near Lewiston, MI. A quiet place to appreciate nature and just relax. Area wildlife includes deer, elk, black bear, bald eagles and more. Enjoy excellent fishing for smallmouth bass, walleye, pike and panfish. Much of the lake is surrounded by Mackinaw State Forest, which provides miles of trails for snowmobiling, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, hiking and thousands of acres for hunting. About a half hour drive to the fabulous Garland Resort for golfing or cross-country skiing or less than an hour drive to Gaylord, the Golf Mecca of the Midwest. The house is located in a very private, wooded setting, on a small island with a drivable causeway and bridge. There are three large bedrooms, each having access to outside decks. Also, there is a large deck off the living room with a great view of the sunset over the lake. The front of the house facing the lake contains large windows affording a panoramic view of the lake and surrounding hills from the living room and kitchen areas. The interior of the house is panelled in rustic knotty pine complemented by a cathedral ceiling. There is a nice lakeside deck, which provides access to a great swimming area. Montmorency County is probably one of the least developed counties of northern Michigan. Much of the county consists of state forest land. The area abounds in beautiful lakes and clear trout streams. Very close to Avery Lake, are small streams like Hunt Creek and Gilchrist Creek, each having gin-clear water with good populations of brown trout. Canada Creek is just north of Atlanta, and has some surprisingly good brook trout fishing. About 25 miles directly south, the Au Sable River flows through Huron National Forest and is designated a National Wild and Scenic River in this stretch. Great opportunities for floating this river exist, and you are welcome to transport our canoes and/or kayak to the river for a great day of fishing or just enjoying nature. In the northwest part of Montmorency County, the beautiful Pigeon River State Forest has abundant small lakes and some very decent trout streams as well. Try fishing on the East Branch of the Black River, or the Main Branch of the Black for wild brookies, or the Sturgeon River or the Pigeon River for brookies, rainbows and browns. All are within about a 30 to 45 minute drive from Avery Lake. For golfers, Garland Resort is probably one of the nicest courses in the area. And of course there are the many fabulous courses in the Gaylord area. Great dining is found at the Lewiston Lodge, about a 20 minute drive from Avery Lake, between the huge lakes of East Twin and West Twin. Lewiston, Michigan is located on East Twin and has a decent grocery store and additional great restaurants - like the Redwood Steak House. The SpaceA RUSTIC GETAWAY ON THE FAMED AUSABLE RIVER The latest edition to the Meemo’s family of getaways is The River House, a woodland chalet located near Grayling, Michigan, on 343 feet of river frontage. It’s Northern Michigan location and scenic overlook of the Au Sable River make it a nature-lover’s paradise. The house has a knotty pine interior with a kitchen and three bedrooms, baths, and fireplaces. It features a custom-finished walkout to the lower level with a wet bar and open staircase. A spacious family room with a massive fieldstone fireplace overlooks the river, and French doors open to the large multi-level deck and stairway. The chalet and its immediate surroundings make it a great place for family gatherings, couples getaways, and an outdoor enthusiast’s dream vacation. At The River House, the famed North Branch of the Au Sable River is right outside your door. From there, you’re only minutes away from a section of river called The Holy Water, which is the confluence of the North Branch and the 9-Mile Stretch. It’s one of the most famous and densely populated spans of trout habitat in the country, but isn’t the only noteworthy portion of the river. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the entire home. Interaction with GuestsWhile there is not staff on-site to assist during your stay, we are available via phone at anytime during your stay. The NeighborhoodThere are adventures abound in Grayling. The town itself has unique shops, live entertainment, and restaurants that are open year round. As the Canoe Capital of the World, Grayling has hosted the Au Sable River Canoe Marathon every July since 1947. In the warm months, canoe and kayak trips may be taken down the Au Sable and Manistee rivers, and the fishing here is known to anglers nationwide. Biking, hiking, golfing, picnicking, festivals, and fall color tours are all common local entertainment. During the winter months, downhill skiing, snowboarding, sledding, ice-skating, and ice fishing are available. Many come here for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling, as our annual snowfall is high for the region. Whichever activities you choose, round out your day of excitement with an evening cup of hot cocoa or a hot-buttered rum by the hearth. THE AU SABLE RIVER The Au Sable is composed of the North, South, and Main branches, and is recognized as one of the finest fisheries in the nation. This beautiful, 138-mile stretch of river has a rich tradition of producing trophy fish. It has plentiful (and sizeable) brown, rainbow, and brook trout; plenty of great cover; and no shortage of resources for both the novice and experienced fisherman. The river is famously stable, with a sand and gravel bed that allows precipitation to seep into the soil. This allows for natural aquifers to feed the river and its tributaries a constant supply of cool, clean, clear water – precisely what the trout population needs to thrive. It also becomes a tremendous steelhead fishery throughout its last few miles below Foote Dam. THE NORTH BRANCH The North Branch is popular with anglers for its stable flow, cool water, diverse and prolific hatches, comfortable wading, and easy casting. Experts and novices alike find it a welcome respite from the often highly technical demands of the mainstream. These easily waded waters generally have very little boat traffic, easy casting conditions, and a healthy population of both brook and brown trout. THE MANISTEE RIVER Although not as well known as the Au Sable, the Manistee River is a hidden jewel. Much of its length is less populated than the Au Sable by humans. It’s ideal for wildlife watching and scenic photography. Here again a canoe or kayak is the best way to obtain the wilderness experience, although scenic wonders can be witnessed at any woodland area bridge that spans the river.

This is our family cabin on the lake, and we've decided to share it will a few lucky families. This is a quiet and beautiful lake with a fantastic, ever-changing view in the heart of the Amish rolling hills. Loons, Herons and eagles are common here, and I'm sure you'll see lots of other wildlife. This a clean, spring fed no-wake lake and there is good fishing as well. It's located on the end of a cul-de-sac, so nothing but woods on one side. We spend most of our time on the deck enjoying the lake, or down near the water or on it. Inside the cabin, I'm sure you'll find it spacious (around 1300 square feet). It has an open floor plan, and is full of contemporary Michigan art from downstate. The master bedroom is quite large, and the other two bedrooms are somewhat smaller. The master has a king sized bed that can split into two twins. BR2 has a bunk bed in it, and BR3 has a full sized bed. The bathroom is average sized with a tub and shower. Everything is clean and functional. There is a television with DVD player, and a decent sized library of DVD movies. Limited television reception.
