The SpaceThe Badger Hound House is located at The Long Dog Retreat Cabin Rentals on Huyck Lake in Marcellus, Michigan.
The cabin is cozy and a great place to just get away from the craziness of city life! It is important to note that we have Satellite TV and Internet so it is dependent on the weather. Snuggle up next to the fire with your dog and just relax! There are several games provided and we encourage you to use your time here to read a good book, play some board games or cards, watch some fun old movies or catch up on your sleep! (or other bedroom activities) Guest AccessThe Badger Hound House is fully furnished with a complete kitchen. It has a full size refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffee pot and toaster oven. There is a washer/dryer with laundry soap provided. Coffee, filters, sugar, cream and tea is also provided. Dishes, pots, pans and all utensils are also provided.
The Badger Hound House is on a dirt road. It is plowed in the winter time but travel can be hazardous when there is a lot of snow. Please watch the weather. We are located in Cass County Michigan. Parking is at the top of a hill behind the property and there are approximately 15 steps to get down to the house. The house is NOT handicapped accessible. Interaction with GuestsJoe and Kelly Landgraf are your hosts! They live just across the street so help is only a few feet away if you need anything.
Joe is a retired USMC Major who served his country for 25 years including many deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. The couple has 3 grown children and 1 perfect granddaughter. They are also the proud founders and board members of The Long Dog Retreat Dachshund Rescue. They currently own 4 wiener dogs and foster 7-10 more! The NeighborhoodWe are located on a country road on Huyck Lake. Huyck Lake is a small fishing, no wake lake. In the winter you can ice fish on it. Boats (when available) can be rented. Row boat is $10.00 per day and pontoon boat is $50.00 per day. There is a gas grill and a firepit.
If you call/text to let us know when you plan on arriving, we can get a nice fire going for you in the fire pit. Getting AroundWe are approximately 45 minutes from South Bend, Indiana.

Ok..so your not really renting a wiener...you are short term (overnight) fostering dogs for The Long Dog Retreat Dachshund Rescue.
Would you like to snuggle with a cuddly wiener dog? Would you like to help a dachshund in need of love and socialization gain confidence and have a higher chance at being adopted? Have you thought about adopting a dog but were not sure how your current pet/kids would do with a pet?
With our RENT a WIENER program, you can check out a dachshund from our rescue (located just across the street) and keep him/her for the duration of your stay or for just a few hours. Our available doxies for this program are NOT aggressive. Some may have health issues or special needs but nothing serious. They may have a potty accident...but we are PET FRIENDLY and understand this may happen. These dogs need to feel special, loved and learn socialization skills so you will be helping our rescue and YOU get the benefit of hanging out with the coolest breed of dog ever!
The charge of the RENT a WIENER PROGRAM is $5.00 per day but if you give the doggy a bath, brush his/her hair or take him/her for a walk then the FEE is WAIVED! That's right! You can RENT A WIENER for FREE!!!
To reserve a wiener...just leave us a note with your reservation! For more information about our rescue, check out th(EMAIL HIDDEN) You will be required to fill out a Short Term Foster Contract and if you bring pets with you they will need to be up to date on shots and non-aggressive. If you participate in this program, 10% of your rental fees will be donated to The Long Dog Retreat Dachshund Rescue! Rent a cabin and Save a Wiener!
The Badger Hound House is on a well. The water is SAFE but doesn't taste that great. We encourage you to bring bottled water.
