I have left cleaning supplies in case you want to wipe or sweep to your personal taste. If you are sensitive about cleanliness, consider a proper hotel or be willing to do extra wiping up after the neighbor finishes.

The SpaceThis is just an ordinary upstairs bedroom in an 1874 working-class home on a quiet residential street in the Capitol City of Minnesota. It is upstairs in a very old, small working-class house that is under gradual rehab and improvement (as funds and time permit). The sleeping room itself is private, but I may need to enter to water the flowers in the window box, or get something from the bureau where I store my sewing supplies. The shower, sink, and toilet are DOWNSTAIRS in a bathroom shared with the rest of the household, which includes my daughter and her 2 children - ages 2 and 6 years, and an long-term roommate/friend, Andrew. This is not as convenient as guests may prefer, but for a price commeasurate to that of a campsite in a state park, where you would bring your own tent and sleeping bag, I hope this inconvenience is tolerable. I provide fresh, clean sheets, pillows, and blankets, heat, light and internet access, indoors! Towels are freshly laundered, tumbled briefly in the dryer to fluff them and then dried in the sunshine and outdoor breezes (weather permitting) on the clothes line, and I never use scented dryer sheets. I do not use commercial of chemical-based air fresheners in the home, as they make me ill. The dog is a boisterous barreling bull of a boy named "Boss". He will most likely greet your first knock on the door with ferocious barking, but once he sniffs you, he soon calms down - unless you keep him stimulated by giving him too much attention. He has run of the whole house and he sometimes gets lonely and wanders upstairs to visit guests. There is a gate at the top of the stairs which my roommate likes to keep closed to keep the dog out of his space. The dog, Boss, will dash out the door and run around the neighborhood if he gets the chance, and therefore precautions are taken when guests might be coming and going. I don't make breakfast. I just interpret B&B to be Bed and Bathing facilities. Guests do not have any access to kitchen facilities. Common spaces in the house are often cluttered and couches mussed up- due to the dog spending most of his leisure time on them, and children not always putting away their things. When I am home, I clean, and pick up things frequently, and sweep all the floors guests have access to, and wipe down the bathroom daily, scrubbing the floor whenever I see it needs it. When I am not home, my daughter does not do these things, and The house can become unpleasantly messy. I have not been sleeping overnight at the house since June 2016, but I do stop in several times a week to clean and check on guests. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the room itself, the front entry, and the downstairs bathroom. I do as much as I can to keep the living room comfortable for guests, but my housekeeping habits need improvement, and I often dump laundry and sorting projects in progress in the living room on and around the couches, which render the room less welcoming and relaxing. I am working on this. The bedroom itself is presently also storing some items: book, blankets, craft supplies, and a there is a nice bureau, but I have claimed it, and use it for photography, craft, and sewing supplies., A second bureau is full of my own camera equipment. and some family members', stuff. These are not available for guest use. There is a closet in which clothing can be hung, but no hooks for towels, coats, umbrellas, etc. (This will come as I get all the details figured out.) I need access to the room daily during warm season so that I can water the flowers in the window box. Guests need to be aware that the back of the house (which includes the kitchen) is off-limits to guests, as it is in rough shape, and although the family uses it, it is simply not suitable for guest use. I have renovation projects in varying states of completion throughout the house. Interaction with GuestsHow much I interact with my guests will depend on what else I have going on any particular evening or day. I work full time in Minneapolis and have been juggling several projects. My livingroom is set up with 2 couches and a piano, but no TV or stereo. Guests are welcome to relax on the couches whenever they like, but the dog thinks he belongs on the couch, too. I wash the couch covers frequently to keep ahead of the dog hair. I'll always try to be present personally to orient guests to the home - the sleeping and bath facilities, but other than that, I may often be away from the house. Guests who stay more than one night will be provided a key to the front door. My daughter and her children are staying with me at this time. My daughter Hayley does not usually talk to guests at all. She is rather introverted, and simply not comfortable with engaging in conversation with guests. Her children, however, are often excited and curious about guests and do like to interact. The NeighborhoodMy neighborhood is quiet and pleasant. It is well mixed ethnically, and I do not personally know all my neighbors. Rice Street has a few small businesses where people can go for a drink or a bite to eat - nothing extravagant, and no 5-star, amazing pubs or eateries, but there is a little ice-cream and pizza shop, and a sub sandwich shop attached to it. I would love for my guests to patronize those shops as I would love to see them succeed. There are bars, and a variety of very working-class restaurants, such as Tin Cup's and Mama's Pizza. Getting AroundThere is on-street parking in front of my house. It is rare that one would have any difficulty finding a spot - maybe when one of my neighbors hosts a large party, but that is super rare. I am near 3 bus routes, with a 1-1/2 block walk to one route, and a 2-1/2 block walk to the other 2 routes. Metro transit has a web site that you can use to look up bus schedules for the 3A and the 62, which run along Rice Street, and the 68 (?) that runs along Jackson Street. Schedules can be found on the metro transit website. Other Things to NoteGrandchildren are present some of the time. There is a 6-year-old girl, and a 2-year-old boy. Sometimes they are noisy and get cranky around bed time, and this can disrupt the peace. They sometimes stay up late as their mother works varying hours and gets home late with them.

The SpaceInterested in something that is not "run of the mill"? Look no further... The Manor was built in 1883 and moved to this location in 1884. Voted the most mysterious house in Saint Paul by the Pioneer Press many years back it has proven to be true. The place has a large enclosed courtyard with a fire pit, a picnic area, and off street parking. We are close to both downtown St. Paul and Minneapolis, it is 10 miles from MSP International Airport. Quaint and charming are some of the words used to describe this unique place. We have a wonderful and friendly doberman named Scorch. A majority of the house has been refinished and decorated with with oddities and antiques. My friends say it will always be under construction but I am happy to say that there is light at the end of the tunnel. We also book for day time events like photo/video shoots, weddings, ceremonies, rituals etc. Guest AccessOff street parking inside our compound Clean and neat bedroom with fresh linens Shared bathroom Stand up or sit down shower and a jacuzzi tub. High speed internet My vast experience with directions and fun places and exciting activities. Interaction with GuestsI try to determine the right amount of interaction per guest. I like to chat and have stimulating discussion but also know when its time to get busy and get things done. The NeighborhoodI live in a diverse neighborhood that is often busy and bustling but we have a compound that creates an inner sanctum, like a place out of time. It has been described as a country place hidden in the city. Getting AroundPlenty of mass transit options, the bus line is only 1 1/2 blocks away and light rail is about to open up between Minneapolis and St Paul and is about 12 blocks from us. I also offer airport pick up and/or drop off for $20 a trip. Other rides can be arranged as well according to my schedule.

Also, there IS an air conditioner, but it's a portable floor unit with an exhaust hose out the window and does NOT adequately cool the entire condo area. It's far more effective on the hot humid days to use it as a dehumidifier. Instructions on its use are laid out in the manuel. I didn't check the air conditioner tab because I feel like you should know what you're getting into. There are some pretty spicy hot summer days even in MN and we found that we would just have to go to the movies to cool off. I checked the Handicap Accessible tab- but beware!!! There is a four inch curb to enter the front of the building. Our neighbor upstairs uses a wheelchair and he can maneuver his chair to have the front half go up, then propels himself up to get the big wheels to go up. He's young and active and has a manuel chair. I don't think an electric chair would be able to mount that same curb. The bathroom is not equipped with any special bars or handrails so if your mobility is limited on the lower half of your body, this might not work for you. It all depends on what your handicap is and how you've been able to manage curbs/ bathroom. I checked the box because I don't want to deter anyone who doesn't have a problem with one step and might otherwise be interested. Dogs are allowed on a case by case basis. The dog must be housebroken, have completed obedience training, and are NOT allowed to sleep in the bed OR climb onto the furniture. I realize that most owners allow their dog(s) on the furniture and in their beds and if that's you, PLEASE look for someplace else to stay. Don't fool yourself in thinking "Oh we'll just keep Rufus off the furniture while we're there even though he's never had that expectation in his life." It's not fair to the dog and it's not fair to us as owners who have to deal with scratches on our leather furniture and dog smell in our bed. I will follow up with Airbnb and assess charges from the security deposit and leave negative feedback if these rules are not followed. No cats no exceptions (sorry- we have allergies in our family). Internet is included but not cable tv. The tv gets many local channels over the air including all of the major networks. Check in is after 6:30pm on the weeknights and more flexible on the weekends. Guest AccessThe entire condo is yours to use. Please see description and photos for an idea of our condo. Guest can also use the laundry facility in the basement of the building. The storage areas in the basement is off-limits, though. Interaction with GuestsLimited interaction: Myself or my friend Mike (or in rare cases another friend) will meet you, give you the keys and house manual. I will always be available for any questions or if something goes wrong but neither of us live in the building. The NeighborhoodDowntown St. Paul has it all! Getting Around5 minute walk to grocery store / deli 2 minute walk to Light Rail 10 minute walk to the Mississippi River 5 minute walk to Rice Park or 10 minute walk to Mears Park 40 minute bus or 15 minute car ride to airport 45 minute bus or 20 minute car ride to Mall of America/ Ikea 30 minute bus or 15 minute car ride to Downtown Minneapolis And SO much more! The SpaceBesides some beautiful living plants, you have an in-room fridge and microwave and your own electric coffee maker in the next room. The house has forced-air gas heat and central air conditioning, and you also have a fan as well as control of the temperature in your room. The garden is truly superb, and the neighborhood is the very best for strolls. Walk four blocks to some of the finest restaurants in Saint Paul, or stop at the nearby deli. It's all close and all convenient. Guest AccessYour private entrance leads upstairs and through an alarmed door to our residence. There's a third floor apartment at the second floor landing with its own locked door. The only spaces that are off limits are the bedrooms of the two residents. We share the bathroom on second floor and the half bath on first floor. There's limited space in the kitchen, so don't plan on a big cooking spree—a bit of light cooking is all right, though. You have your own fridge and microwave in the room, plus coffee makers upstairs and downstairs. There's an electric teapot and a wide variety of teas. You'll find fruit and, often, sweets on the kitchen table. These are shared because we know our guests like to have a little treat from time to time. Interaction with GuestsYou'll be sharing the house with two women—both introverts. The living room, including media center, and the dining room are usually all yours. We mostly spend our time in the kitchen and sunroom. Background music is too distracting for me, so please use headphones. If public radio is too distracting for you, just say so and I'll turn it off. The NeighborhoodCathedral and Summit Hill: The only place I'd want to live in St. Paul. This was the neighborhood of the 19th century robber barons who built houses that make contemporary homes look puny. There's no better neighborhood for strolling and gaping. Restaurants surround us, and shopping is nearby and plentiful. Getting AroundBus service is 4 blocks away and so is the HourCar hub. The Green Line, rapid transit running between Minneapolis and St. Paul, is a mile away. The airport is a 10 minute drive, which will cost you about $30 by taxi. Uber is a bit cheaper. Parking across the street in front of the house is plentiful and, up til now, safe. Saint Paul has an extensive bus system, and bus stops are two to four blocks away. If you're driving, access to highways 35E, 494 and 94, the East-West highway between Minneapolis and Saint Paul, is simple and quick. Other Things to NoteIf you're here more than a week, feel free to use the second floor laundry and to cook light meals in the kitchen.

The SpaceYour private entrance leads to an elegant, light-filled getaway with a sense of a treehouse. It's a quiet open-space third floor apartment with beautiful views of oak trees and Victorian gardens. Tasteful furnishings, a sumptuously equipped kitchen, and generous appointments combine for a sense of 21st century luxury and 19th century charm. There's a queen bed in the bedroom area, a twin futon that doubles as a sitting area, and an air mattress we set up for you if needed. This space is just plain uplifting and inspiring because of the light that streams in from all directions. The lovely oaks you see from your windows are over 150 years old—part of the original oak savannah. You have a TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime, Wifi, microwave, coffeepot, stove, refrigerator, linens, dishes, pots, books, board games…plus a shared patio and fresh flowers and herbs from our extensive gardens. We try to anticipate your needs and provide for you whatever we can. Besides, you are in the most walkable and architecturally fascinating neighborhood in the Twin Cities! Cathedral Hill is St. Paul's prestigious historic neighborhood. Every block is a study in 19th century architecture, and almost all homes have been restored to their original glory. Wonderful restaurants, grocery, bakery, and shops are within easy walking distance. Grand Avenue—St. Paul's version of Georgetown--is 3 blocks away. Come sit on the patio or just give us a call if you'd like company. If you forgot your toothbrush or desperately need a pasta strainer, text or call and it will arrive at your door. Otherwise, the third floor is completely private--yours alone. The house was built in the 1870s and registered in 1884. It's an American Stick Style house with an extant root cellar. In the back yard are three beehives. No one but the beekeeper has been stung in the six years we've had bees, so feel free to enjoy the patio and the bee-viewing chairs. The bees won't bother you unless you are a flower. Guest AccessThis is a private, locked loft apartment up two flights of stairs. The floor is soundproofed, and the neighborhood is quiet. If you are here more than a week, I will come up to water the house plants and leave laundered linens and towels. You also have access to a washer and dryer one floor down. The patio and gardens are yours to explore. Be sure to ask about picking veggies and flowers to enjoy. Interaction with GuestsI am generally at home, and I always check in with guests the day after they arrive. If I am traveling, a close friend stays in the house and is available to guests. If your checkin time is impossible for us, I will send instructions for entering the house, and we will check in with you the following day. Our preferred medium of communication is text messaging. Sitting on the patio means "I'm willing to interact." Otherwise, we respect your privacy. If you want company, just text me. If you forgot your toothbrush or need a pasta strainer, call us and we'll leave it at your door. The NeighborhoodYou're at the center of Summit and Cathedral Hill, the premier historic neighborhood of the Twin Cities. The neighborhood was home to the Robber Barons of the 19th century and the setting of The Great Gatsby, written by F Scott Fitzgerald when he lived here. Every architectural style is represented in the neighborhood, and houses are renovated under strict regulations to ensure their historic character is maintained. Architectural tour buses are common here, so take a walk and admire the porticos and porte coucheres, cornices and balusters. Getting AroundA taxi ride from the airport costs about $30. Uber is not allowed to pick up from the airport, but it's easy to get an Uber ride to and from the house. Bus service is 4 blocks away, and rapid transit just about a mile. Highways 94, 35, and 494 are nearby. An HourCar hub is 4 blocks away. The State Capitol and United Hospital are walkable if you are a good walker. Downtown St. Paul, St. Joe's Hospital, Ecolab, Lawson software are all down the hill within walking or biking distance. A girl's bike is available to use. On-street parking is across the street in front of the house, and it's safe. Other Things to NoteThe house was built in the 1870s by the William Carson family. It was registered in 1884—the first year houses were registered in Saint Paul. This is an American Stick Style house designed by Edward Bassford, the architect in whose office the illustrious architect Cass Gilbert worked when he first came to Saint Paul. The house is balloon construction with vertical lines and an extant root cellar. In the back yard are three beehives. No one but the beekeeper has been stung in the six years we've had bees, so feel free to enjoy the patio and the bee-viewing chairs…but don't run up to the hives and stick your face into the bees' tiny door.

Guests may enjoy the main floor living room, music parlor with grand piano, reading room, dining room, kitchen, outdoor deck with downtown views and sauna. Guest AccessConveniently located 5 minutes from downtown Saint Paul and a 10 minute drive from the airport, Dearing Mansion in West Saint Paul is just over the Smith Avenue High Bridge across the Mississippi River. Interaction with GuestsI enjoy interacting with guests and I respect people's privacy. This home has a variety of room options available and as such, operates much like a traditional bed and breakfast with shared common spaces. There may be several guests at one time, providing an opportunity to meet a variety of people. The home is quite large with many beautiful spaces for all to enjoy on the main floor. Private bedrooms with either shared or private bath (master suite) are located on the 2nd floor. I ask that guests be respectful of each other at Dearing Mansion. Because of the historic nature of the home and the shared aspect, it is well suited for adults (older children may be considered). The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is friendly and safe. There are beautiful parks and great trails nearby for walking and bicycling. Great coffee shops and bakeries are within walking or driving distance along with antique shops and other shopping 5-10 minutes away by car. Historic Summit Avenue as well as Grand Avenue, known for shopping, fine restaurants and eateries, are just 5 minutes by car. I am happy to provide restaurant and entertainment recommendations. Also close to Xcel Energy Center, Fitzgerald Theatre, local colleges and universities including: Macalester, St. Thomas, St. Kates. Come visit and enjoy. And like many of our guests, come back again! Getting AroundDowntown is just a 5 minute drive across the Mississippi River. City bus a block away.

The SpaceQuaint and charming are some of the words used to describe this unique place. The manor has an enclosed courtyard with plenty of room for your next family function or gathering. We have a wonderful doberman named Scorch. She is very well socialized and well behaved. The Manor is in its last phase of reconstruction (kitchen) thus the affordable price. We are close to downtown St. Paul and Mpls with access to the freeway within a mile or so. Guest AccessOff street parking inside our compound Clean and neat bedroom with fresh linens Shared bathroom Stand up or sit down shower and a whirlpool tub. High speed internet My experience with directions and fun places and exciting activities and love and attention from Scorch our faithful dog. I also offer airport pick up and/or drop off for $20 a trip. Other rides can be arranged as well according to my schedule. Other Things to NoteThis is my house and I am opening up my home to you. The SpaceThis guest room is one of two guest rooms in an 1,100 second floor apartment which is right next to my property (I am on the right side of the property photo in the listing, and you are on the left). It is ideal for re-locations, work or extended visits. It is quiet and private, and guests share a fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, bathroom (with lock inside), and common area. Guests are given their own key-less entry code for the apartment and for their own private room for security. This room has a queen-sized bed which is very comfortable and a closet with shelving and hangers. Guest AccessGuests have access to Wi-Fi, Kitchen, Washer/Dryer, Common Area. Interaction with GuestsI love meeting my guests, hearing your stories, and what brings you here, and your travel adventures. Nevertheless, this unit is separate from my property. It has separate entrance/exits, and there will be times that I will not get a chance to meet you personally and communications will be through phone/text. I apologize for that in advance. I am very busy with multiple projects. For this reason, I am indicating that the two guest rooms in this apartment are unique in that you will not have the kind of airbnb host interaction that you would typically have if you were in one of the listings on my side of the property. The upside to this is that if you are seeking quiet and privacy, this is the place! The NeighborhoodThe Riverview / Riverbluff Area is a trendy neighborhood with dramatic scenery overlooking the Mississippi River and Downtown St. Paul. It's close to everything: Wild Games or Music/Entertainment at the Xcel Energy Convention Center, great eateries, coffee houses, Green-line Light Rail Metro Transit to Minneapolis & Mall of America, and 10 minutes from the Minneapolis International Airport. Getting AroundThe property is .5 mile (.3 km) walk to downtown St. Paul. It is one block from a bus line to either downtown St. Paul, The Green Line Light Rail to Minneapolis and/or Mall of America. Airport pick-up available upon request.
