The Space3-4 BR, 3 BA on two levels. 4-acre wooded hillside, 5 min. from downtown Winona, in Wisconsin.
Nestled into 4 acres of hardwood and birch hillside high above the "Great River Road" (St. Rd. 35), this luxury home boasts an incredibly beautiful panoramic view of the Mississippi River and bluffs of Minnesota. Enjoy a striking view incomparable on either side of the Mississippi. There are no neighbors for at least a quarter of a mile, and no neighbors are visible from anywhere on the property.
The first thing you'll notice is the lock and dam below you about 1 mile away. The interstate bridge and downtown Winona open themselves up to you a few miles further in the distance, while Sugarloaf Mountain on the east side of Winona, 5 miles in the distance, caps your view from the huge windows on every level. This is one of the most beautiful and unique houses you will ever see. A "Prairie School" design, the original construction began in the mid-1950s, finally completed by the current owner in 2006.
The interior features additional custom cut and installed "Winona Stone," on all countertops throughout, including custom stone bookshelf. The stone was sourced from the same company used by the original owner in the 1950s. The kitchen sink is carved from one solid piece of limestone, all designed, custom cut and installed by the Biesanz Stone Co., complementing the open concept kitchen.
The master bedroom features a private “en-suite” bathroom with a walk-in closet. There is a large concrete deck leading out from the first floor with a gas grill for guests to use. There is also a deck off the main floor dining room, and off the master bedroom. There are panoramic views of the Mississippi River from most rooms and exterior decks. Guest AccessAll guests will be required to provide the names of all adults staying at the house for emergency purposes. We will provide you with up to 3 sets of keys.
Guests have access to all bedrooms and bathrooms, the upper garage, all exterior decks, patio, and yard space.
The house sleeps 9. There are 3 bedrooms, two with king beds on separate floors. Originally designed as a duplex, the layout allows for more than one couple or family to enjoy their own private space with bedroom, living areas and master bathrooms. The master bedroom includes a master bath and walk-in closet. The third, smaller bedroom, ideal for a smaller adult or child, has a twin-size bed. Also available is a queen sleeper sofa in the lower living room, and a set of twin bunk beds, just off the upper living room.
Enjoy a campfire in the custom-built fire pit with the firewood provided. Sit on the upper deck or the lower patio and watch the sunset. Grill your favorite summertime meal on the gas grill on the lower patio while you watch the river boats go by.
The property is located on 4 acres, some of which is very steep and not traversable. However, there is a discontinued road to through traffic that provides a nice area for hiking. Caution: whenever exiting the driveway, look both ways especially to the north. It is also a popular place for vehicles to pass others and the driveway is out of sight for them. Other Things to NoteWe pay for a subscription for basic Satellite TV and Wi-Fi services for the benefit of our guests. While the satellite services are generally reliable all but a few days every year, it is in the nature of satellite communications that there may be disruptions in services from time to time. As such, we cannot not guarantee both will be working during your stay. The Wi-fi will not work in the lower level of the house, because of the concrete/steel construction. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer technical support.
In the interests of full disclosure, if you absolutely require reliable Wi-Fi for work or other reasons, we feel the need to caution you that there is a small probability that it will not be available and we cannot be held responsible for any service problems. None of our guests have experienced problems with TV or Wi-Fi to date, nor did the owner residing in the property, who worked from home, within the past few years. We just want to be absolutely clear that we cannot promise uninterrupted satellite services in this rural location.
A DVD player is provided with the TV, but we don’t have any movies in the house.
Cell service in the area is good on Verizon, fair with Sprint, and US Cellular networks. Quality of service on other networks is not known.
The kitchen features plates, glasses, and silverware for 10. There are pots/pans, a crock pot, and other cookware and utensils. There is a coffee maker, a toaster, microwave, and gas stove. Also included are a bottle opener, corkscrew, dish-soap, dish towels, etc.
Garbage bags are provided.
Linens for all beds are provided.
Towels and wash cloths are provided.
A washer and dryer is available for your use.
Basic Soaps/shampoos are provided for your convenience.
The water at the house is well-water from a deep aquifer and most people find its taste pleasant. Fountain City is known for its quality of water and natural springs-hence the name of the city. For this reason, there were a number of breweries in the area in the past hundred and 50 years. Hot water is softened. If you’re not accustomed to, or do not prefer the taste of the taste of well-water, you may wish to bring some bottled water, just in case.
