The SpaceJason and I bought a house and got married a few years ago. In 2013, that 1850's farmhouse burned down. Fortunately, we were insured and received amazing support from our friends, family, and community. Since then, we've rebuilt and created this new space!
We were as environmentally conscious as we could be with the rebuild. We salvaged as much as possible and supported local businesses throughout the process. I was lucky enough to have some furniture passed down to me and didn't burn. So, instead of buying new furniture, we fixed up the family stuff. We think it turned out pretty well, overall.
We ended up with a craftsman inspired home in downtown Pittsfield. Vintage landscaping shades the yard, provides shelter for native birds and gives a sense of seclusion despite being inside the town proper. The house is warm, comfy and everyone swears by the new mattresses. The house is warmed with geothermal heat. Hopefully soon, the electricity required for that will 100% solar.
Our basement media room has plenty of seating, including the swinging hammock chairs. The 60" curved screen has excellent surround sound and all the Netflix you need. And while there's no gym, we do have an elliptical down there. It's great to work out with loud sound for playing music or TV.
Outside is a whole other world. We have a front porch with a rocking chair, a few tiki torches, and a hot tub next to the grill. We also have a small seating area in the back under an old ornamental tree. Another nook is hiding in the woods, looking like hobbits will be having tea there any minute.
A colorful hammock swings in the shade of the trees. There are two fire pits to choose from.
Blueberry bushes and fruit trees are growing, as well as strawberries and herbs. Some flowers have cultivated so well through the winters. Next year there will be a garden box for some vegetables. Five little hens live penned in the yard, too. They're adorable!
Additionally, the town is quite walkable. A small grocery and liquor store are a quarter mile away. A convenience store is just a little further on. Public benches provide seating by the dam. Running through the area is a treat for those who enjoy a good jog. We even have some hiking in town, just a couple miles drive.
Come visit and relax. We have just the space for it. Welcome! Guest AccessYard access, hot tub access, basement media room access. ^_^ Interaction with GuestsI work from home as well as volunteering locally. I tend to be around the house, you will likely bump into me. I love to chat and get to know new people. Frequently I will be working online and listening to music upstairs, so you won't see me all the time. Jason is in and out sporadically, as business ownership requires. It's your retreat- You do you! Don't worry about dishes. Let me know when you need fresh towels. The NeighborhoodWe are a quarter of a mile from the local grocery and ABC store. Three quarters a mile from the BEST pizza in town, Jack's (Full disclosure; husband owns Jack's ;).
The dam is right across the street from that, complete with sitting benches. It is so beautiful!
We are just a half mile or so from Rt. 28 and which leads straight to Rt. 4 for Antique Alley or to Concord, depending on which way you turn.
Jitters Cafe is downtown for anyone who is looking for a cup of coffee and maybe a good meal amidst the small town experience. Dunkin is just a mile or so up on 28, for you DD junkies. ;) Getting AroundThe most convenient "public transit" is really going to be based on our bipedal nature. The town is very bikeable and easily walked. It's totally worth it to take in the views. Other Things to NoteOur ice maker can sometimes act more like a wild animal than a simple refrigerator function. You have my apologies in advance if you are surprise assaulted by flying ice.
The bathroom sink leaks a bit and needs an extra strong push to be completely off. I know it's odd to have to use strength in a bathroom faucets, but everything has its quirks.
There is a closet and dresser space in the room. I will make a shelf in the fridge available. Just let me know if you need cupboard space. Please just ask before using the hot tub- there are a couple rules around it. Thank you!
