The SpaceThis cottage is available for vacation rental from Memorial Day Weekend through October 12th. It is located on Highland Lake in Stoddard, New Hampshire. It can ONLY be accessed by boat. A small motorboat, a canoe a kayak and a pontoon paddle boat are included with the rental of this cottage. There is NO BATHROOM OR SHOWER IN THE HOUSE. Just steps outside, there is a very clean and functional outhouse as well as a heated, private, outdoor shower (more description below). The water coming into the house is lake water so drinking water must be brought in. We will provide large containers of water during your stay and refill as much as you need, however, you may want to bring bottled water. There is a wood stove in the main room of the cottage to take the chill off during the Fall season.
When you arrive at the Highland Lake Marina & Restaurant, you take a 3 minute boat ride directly across the lake to the cottage in a 15' motorboat with a 15 hp motor which is included with this rental. The boat is conveniently located in a slip at the Marina where you can purchase gasoline for you boat rides! Guided pontoon boat tours of the lake are available (at additional cost)...take a 2 hour cruise of the entire lake and/or rent the boat & driver (by the hour) and stop to swim, bring a cooler with your favorite cocktails! Please contact us for rates....YOU CAN ALSO BRING YOUR OWN BOAT! Half and full-day Pontoon Boat rentals are available at the Marina as well. You must have your Boat Safety Certificate in order to rent a boat with boat motor over 25hp at the Marina. Guest AccessYou have complete access to the cottage and the surrounding woods, a dock by the shore to sit on and relax, a motorboat, canoe and paddle boat, as well as water floats, life preservers and more. Linens are provided. Please bring pillows, towels, food, campfire wood and drinking water (we will provide drinking water as well). The cottage is nestled in the side of a hill on 400 feet of lakefront property covered with blueberry bushes and surrounded by woods. There is one large aluminum dock on the water's edge with stairs leading into the water. The water is shallow along the shore, nice for the smaller children to wade in and gets deeper further out which is great for jumping and fun for everyone!
The cottage is furnished. It sleeps six (6) (there is also a roll-away twin bed available). It has four (4) rooms: one bedroom with two (2) twin beds; one bedroom with a queen-size bed and a set of bunk beds; a fully equipped kitchen with a stove and refrigerator and a living room with a television and DVD player. Internet service is provided and free WIFI at the Marina as well. Although we have tried, unfortunately, DISH TV service is not available at this location.
The water into the house is lake water. DRINKING WATER MUST BE BROUGHT IN. The lake water can be boiled and is fine to wash dishes. We bathe in the lake or use the heated lake-water outdoor shower which is enclosed and private. As already mentioned above, there is no bathroom inside the house. Currently there is a clean & easily-accessible outhouse available steps away from the back side of the house.
The cottage has a large, furnished screened porch and a breathtaking view of the lake, fall foliage and amazing sunrises and stars galore!!
We have neighbors on either side, however, they are a distance away separated by woods. Although the cottage is secluded, our neighbors are next door. We love our neighbors and ask that you remember they are there! The lake carries sound so please remember and be respectful of them.
There is a fire pit, gas grill and hammock hanging between two trees for relaxing near the shore. Although we try to provide ample campfire wood, it is difficult to promise there will be enough. It is recommended that you bring some with you if possible.
Enjoy awesome hiking on trails accessible on the lake (Stoddard Rocks/Pioneer Lake), excellent fishing including trophy-winning bass tournaments, blueberry picking (Pitcher Mountain - Yankee Magazine's Top NE Blueberry picking spot!), swimming, boating, scenic drives, beautiful foliage, bird watching (including loons, bald eagles and lots of hummingbirds!), wildlife sighting including many species of fish, turtles and butterflies, gorgeous flowers including mountain laurel and ladies' slippers.
Although this cottage is remotely located, you can jump in the boat and just across the lake is the Highland Lake Marina & Restaurant where you can purchase gasoline, visit their small convenience store for any needed supplies or have a delicious home-cooked meal inside or on the docks. You can take a drive and in 30 minutes you can be in Keene where there are many nice antique & specialty shops, grocery stores, a weekend farmers market and restaurants. The cottage is 20 minutes from Mt. Sunapee's zip-lining and mountain-top gondola rides as well as MANY, MANY OTHER NEARBY ATTRACTIONS! Interaction with GuestsWe (the owners) live the opposite side of the lake from the cottage and across the street from the Highland Lake Marina & Restaurant where you will park upon arrival. We will bring you across when you arrive and show you around. We are a phone call away if you need assistance with anything during your stay. The NeighborhoodAlthough there are neighbors on either side of our cottage, they are a distance away! Other Things to NoteThis cottage is beautiful, remote and a special place! At the same time, it has some special circumstances with regard to staying here. As we have already mentioned, there is no bathroom inside the house (clean and functioning outhouse outside and in the back yard); running LAKE WATER in house so drinking water must be brought in and lastly, THIS COTTAGE IS BOAT ACCESSIBLE ONLY!
