The SpaceSpending time in Philly? My home is just 5.5 miles away from Center City, within VERY comfortable walking distance to reliable public transportation.
I'm listing a second-floor bedroom in a cute, well-maintained Collingswood row home built in 1928. The private bedroom has a beautiful hardwood floor and plush shag carpet, and is furnished with a made bed and empty dresser, closet and table that the renter may use. There is a lock on the door. The bathroom is in the room next door. It is shared with me, but I work my schedule around my guests' so it is always clean and available for their grooming and showering needs. (I'm a freelancer, so it's no inconvenience for me.)
The bed is a twin (single), so most people rent as individuals. Two people can stay if they're comfortable sharing a twin bed, or if the second person can bring his/her own air mattress or something similar. I do have extra bedding and pillows.
I have an extensive home library that includes classics, graphic novels, health books, spiritual books, poetry, cookbooks, coffee-table type art books, comic strip collections and more. Free wifi is available throughout the house.
Free good coffee and tea are available, as are light breakfast items such as yogurt and protein bars. I can't make any promises, but I love to cook and bake, so it's quite possible that I'll have fresh cookies or similar treats on hand to share. As per the house rules, you can bring ingredients for your own meals and make them in the shared, clean kitchen. Dunkin' Donuts is right across the street.
The guest room has a brand-new air conditioner. The office also has air conditioning. Guests may turn on and adjust the air conditioning as they wish. There are also portable fans available to use anywhere in the house. When the weather is pleasant, guests are free to open the windows for a fresh breeze.
I'm located on a safe block just around the corner from the Ferry Avenue PATCO station (a speedline to Philadelphia -- rides are every 10-20 minutes and arrive in center city Philly in 15 minutes). Aldis grocery store is also just around the corner. Downtown Collingswood is within walking distance (about a mile), with many Zagat-rated restaurants and vintage stores. The PATCO train I mentioned also stops in Collingswood if you don't want to walk. Historic Haddonfield is about three miles away and also on the speedline. New York City is two hours away via Greyhound or Chinatown bus, both close to the Philly 8th and Market PATCO station.
There are at least three good parks within a mile for jogging, bird watching, fishing and leisure.
I have a small, friendly Jack Russell/Eskimo mix, as shown in my photos. She is a delight, and everyone who likes dogs enjoys playing with her. Guest AccessGuests have access to kitchen/appliances, laundry room with washer/dryer/iron (BYOD), backyard, living room with FiOS cable/DVD/VHS player and more. Guests are also welcome to watch a tape or DVD from my collection. Please see house rules for more information about using common areas. Interaction with GuestsAfter checking the guest in and giving a short tour, I mind my own business and give guests their privacy by default, like a hotel receptionist. I am available to answer questions or chat with guests if they would like. I am in and out of the house throughout the day. The NeighborhoodMost people stay to visit nearby cities Camden and Philadelphia. But Collingswood has its own charm, including many Zagat-rated restaurants, an award-winning farmers' market, an innovative bike sharing program and a quaint downtown with lots of cafes and mom-and-pops. If you want a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, Collingswood is there for you. Getting AroundTransportation is excellent. Many go car free around here. Use your favorite map program or ask me for more details. Other Things to NoteAllergy alert: A cat used to live here.
