The SpacePrior to our buying the house, it was in the same family since it was built in the 1920s. The man who sold it to us actually grew up in the house. This means there are some amazing features (like beautiful wooden inlay floors), and it also means that the bathroom looks like it's from the 50s. However, it has a lot of space and openness. And while some areas are a little dated, it all works beautifully.
Our house is ideal for families with kids, as we have two of our own. Plenty of access to books and toys, as well as just being a child-friendly space.
There are AC units in most of the rooms that keep things pretty cool for hot days, and heaters in all room to keep you toasty when it gets cold. Guest AccessYou'll have access to all parts of the house. We ask that you only use the basement for laundry and small storage (if needed). Interaction with GuestsWe will be out of town during your stay, but our neighbors are close friends and will be able to help should something come up. We will also be just a phone call or text away for any non-hands-on questions. The NeighborhoodWe have a city park (Vassar Park) right behind the house. It has basketball courts, ball fields, a playground, and open fields. We're also a short drive (5 min) to popular Brookdale park with a fabulous kids playground and great paved trails for walking and running.
The neighborhood itself is very quiet. While not walkable to anything but the park out back, we are very close to restaurants and grocery stores. Getting AroundWe are pretty nicely located between a few towns: Montclair, Nutley, Clifton and Bloomfield. There are multiple grocery stores nearby (ShopRite, Trader Joes, smaller mom and pops). Restaurants abound and many deliver. We're happy to share some of our suggestions for folks who would like a few ideas.
Getting into NYC is easy. There's several trains that go in, as well as a host of buses. There's a bus stop (routes 191X, 192, and 195) just a 5 min drive away that drops you off at the Port Authority, right next to Times Square. Perfect for going in for an evening of theatre (you know, for when you win those Hamilton lottery tickets) or sight-seeing.
