The SpaceTHIS AREA HAS NOT BEEN AFFECTED BY THE STORM. WE ARE HAPPY TO ACCOMMODATE YOU. Please don't be put off by this listing being outside of Manhattan. We are closer to Midtown Manhattan, Times Square, Theater District, Madison Square Garden, Grand Central Empire State Building, Saint Patrick's Cathedral, and Rockefeller Center than staying in other parts of Manhattan (Wall St., Upper East or West Side, above 70s... We are closer than all parts of Brooklyn and definitely way closer than staying in Queens/Bronx). Hi guys Gaby here: to get a feel how close we are, look at the video (URL HIDDEN) (There are two other bedrooms, which may be rented out by other guests.) Newly decorated private room in three-bedroom house in Union City, NJ. Union City is on the other side of the Lincoln Tunnel and therefore very close (15 min. bus ride) to Port Authority/Times Square area. Private luxurious room with a queen-size bed nightstands, open spacious air and heat, beautiful hardwood floors and exquisite mahogany color to help you relax after a day of sightseeing and shopping or whatever you please; we will welcome you with open arms, take a bath or soak or shower makes you feel like you're bathing in the rain; a great kitchen balcony overlooking a beautiful reservoir. Hear your favorite music, eat a snack or whatever, this is what Robert & Gaby your hosts will provide for you. We will greet you as part of our family and for assistance; your privacy and accommodation will be our responsibility and our pleasure. PS. the cleaning crew comes once a day at about 9:00am. If you're sleeping, we can not do your room. About the neighborhood: The neighborhood is quiet and very nice, 100 steps from a family grocery to buy what you need. Walking distance to banks, pharmacy, and 15 minutes from midtown Manhattan (Time Square/Port Authority Bus Terminals). You'll reach Midtown faster from this location than from locations even located in Manhattan. Amenities: you need while away from home maps discount tickets to your favorite plays to get you going a large stainless steal refrigerator, microwave, toaster, two coffee makers and (website hidden) ABOUT YOUR ROOM and the house: * No physical keys: so you can come and go as you please * Real queen bed, very comfy and cozy * Spacious house * Original wood floors * Big balcony where you can smoke * Free WIFI * Includes all linens, blankets, towels and pillows * Share kitchen and bathrooms (one full bath, one powder room) with other guests * House is on street level so there are some stairs to walk up ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD: * Located in Union City, NJ, a very short direct bus ride to Times Square area * Five blocks from gorgeous Manhattan views (along Hudson River) * Best 'cafe con leche' in town on corner. You'll wonder why you spend so much at Starbucks! * Buses to Manhattan/Times Square run every minute during day, and every 4 minutes at night. Buses run all night. * Great grocery and wine/liquor stores in the neighborhood including one right on the corner which is open until 11pm * Very safe neighborhood, lots of great restaurants and bakeries but also very quiet at night. TRANSPORTATION: * Private buses (we call it 'chicken bus') run 24/7 and go directly to Manhattan's Midtown / Port Authority, one block away from Times Square for $2.50 a seat. It's what all the locals use. * City bus runs every 12 minutes to Hoboken, home of the Cake Boss and every 20 minutes (during commute hours) into Manhattan. * Easy city bus access to Jersey Garden Outlet Mall, much closer and as good as Woodbury Commons. Great energy and very peaceful! Feel free to message me with any questions!

This is a bright and fresh two bedroom apartment on the second floor of a three story heritage building. This apartment is being freshly painted and newly decorated (November 2014). The first bedroom has a queen size bed, bedside table and lots of closet space. East facing window for a lovely breeze at night. The second bedroom has two single beds, plenty of closet space and storage. The living room has a brand new sleeper sofa for additional sleeping spots. You will have your own keys so that you can come and go as you wish. Parking: There are two options for parking. 1) Street parking - good option if you arrive before 5pm, as spots are very limited. Let us know if you decide to park in the lot or on the street, as we'll provide you with a visitor permit ($25 deposit, held until permit is returned ) 2) reserved parking spot in a locked lot a few blocks away, this is $10 per day. Once your booking is confirmed I will send you full detailed info on airport transfer options, buses, how to get keys, etc. **Coin-op washer/dryer downstairs **Fast, reliable wifi **Full kitchen I live around the corner and I'm available to help you however I can. I look forward to sharing my favorite NYC places with you. It's a breath of fresh air after spending a crazy tiring day in the city. You'll come home to quiet streets, people walking dogs, neighbors chatting with neighbors and families out for a stroll. We are so close to Manhattan, and if you could fly, you'd be there in 3km's. But you have to go through the tunnel, so it takes about 15 minutes, could be a bit longer in times of heavy traffic. Bus stop is immediately outside the building door, and runs frequently during commuter hours. For best service during non-commuter hours, walk down to the 5 minutes, you will never wait longer than this. You'll be able to walk home from the bus and feel comfortable whether you are a single female traveler or a group of wrestlers - the streets are well lit, the buses run all day and all night and everyone is friendly and helpful. The 24/7 bus picks up and drops off five blocks away, and the buses go to one place only - near Times Square. There is literally no way to get lost if you are taking a bus that is traveling east. The bus that stops right in front of the apartment is best between 7am-10am, then again between 5pm and 7pm. It's meant for office workers, so it doesn't run very frequently during the day. The other bus a few blocks away is the best for the off hours. This apartment is in a quiet residential building with people who work in the city. Everyone appreciates their restful nights sleep, so please keep that in mind. All guests must be counted - babies, kids, toddlers included. Super close to Manhattan! We're the second to last bus stop before the Lincoln Tunnel, so you get on the bus and you're going directly to Port Authority Bus Terminal, right next to Times Square. Additional detailed info about airport transfers, buses into city, etc will be emailed to you once the booking is confirmed.

I live in a full floor apartment in Union City, 15 minutes from midtown Manhattan, with my two cats, Jabulani (Zulu for Rejoice!) and Vuvuzela, her daughter! Guess when she was born! I have a large open plan kitchen, dining room and living room. The kitchen is fully stocked, and the guest bedroom faces the garden so you'll hear birds twittering in the mornings. Union City is a very safe, quiet town and you can see the Empire State and the New York skyline from round the corner. And if you love Latin/South American food, you're in the epicenter!

This apartment is independent, You will not be sharing if with anyone. It is easier and faster to commute into the City from Union City than commuting from Brooklyn or Queens. If you were to stay in the Bronx it would take you 40 min to get to Times Square. If you were to Stay in Brooklyn it would take you the same amount of time as subways in Brooklyn are not direct. If you were to stay in Manhattan you would not find a place as big as this one for this price. The apartment is located in a safe neighborhood, close to shopping and restaurant area. LOCAL TRANSPORTATION: The apartment is located within a 3-min walk to a bus stop the bus will take you to Times Square district in approximately 15 minutes (Important: Bus to Times Square costs $3 each way and bus tickets cannot be used for subway) NJ transit bus tickets cost $27 for 10 one way tickets. The bus will take you to Port Authority 42nd St subway station (lines A, C, E). This station is a central subway hub and you can easily walk to lines 1, 2, 3, 7, N, Q and R. (Important: Subway tickets cost $2.5 per ride but you can buy 7-days unlimited pass at $29). I do not recommend buying the unlimited pass as Port Authority is central and you can walk to all major tourist attractions. It is like an independent house located in the back of a garden. The apartment is a duplex with living room and bathroom on main floor and bedroom on 2nd floor, First floor has a double sofa bed The apartment is near restaurants and shopping center. Parking is street parking. Parking permit will be provided, This apartment does not have a kitchen.

The SpaceThree things that my guests love about my house are: ** Big Open Layout - The entire first floor is the living room, dining room and kitchen. It’s a great place for cooking family meals together, eating at a big dining room table and then chilling out on the big sofa ** It’s an actual house (not an apartment) with a back yard where you can have your morning coffee. An actual house is a rarity in this busy urban area. ** Attention to detail - I have been hosting for 6 years and have been lucky enough to meet thousands of travelers. I try to anticipate your traveling needs. Whether it’s a hair dryer, a laptop computer for your use or just dinner suggestions, I want to help If I'm missing something, please let me know. Two things to point out that some people have commented on: ** Outside of Manhattan, a very short 15 minute bus ride away and it’s not part of the subway system, so it’s a separate bus ride fare ($3). I used to live in Harlem and it would take me up to 40 minutes on the express train to midtown, this is SO much closer. But there’s no sugar coating it, we’re not in Manhattan so this house is not ideal for those guests that like to pop in and out of their place during the day. It’s best suited for guests that will be exploring the city during the day but want to come home to a quiet place at the end of their day. ** The neighborhood is very ethnically and economically diverse. The neighborhood is sometimes called “Little Havana” which means that you’ll find the best cafe con leche around the corner. Benefits: * Real home with a yard, a TV and a fully equipped kitchen. * Fast dependable wifi * Private keypad code for you only, no keys to lose * 24/7 super easy access to Manhattan, buses go every 2 min, $3 per trip * Walk home from bus or walk in neighborhood safely, very low crime area * Supermarket, cafe con leche, fresh bread, restaurants, city skyline view all in walking distance. * Real beds for six people, futon and air beds for extras * Baby grand piano, if you play We hope that you'll come stay with us and discover for yourself how crazy it is to be in a different state, but yet so close that it takes you only 15 minutes to get into Times Square. Additional Details: This 100 year old brownstone has three bedrooms a full bath and a half bath downstairs, a huge open concept kitchen/dining/living room, back yard and baby grand piano! This house used to be part of an embroidery factory - Union City used to be the Embroidery Capital of the world. Lots of German and Swiss history here. FOR FAMILIES: Babies and kids are considered guests and are to be included in the guest count. We have three queen beds in the house, and we can provide you with air beds for additional guests. The couch in the living room should not be used as a sleeping place please.  ABOUT PAYMENT: Many ask about the price and extra fees and how to pay. When you put in the dates and number of people you will get our total cost. There are no taxes on top of this, but AirBnB adds their fee. It varies between 6-12% on top of our price. All the payments are safely made with credit card to AirBnB when booking. They hold the money until the day you check in and will then transfer it to us. Bookings with us are done with the "strict" cancellation policy and all cancellations should be done through AirBnB. This being said, if we manage to re-rent the place the nights you have canceled we can give a bigger refund to you than what the strict cancellation policy dictates. The earlier you cancel the bigger the chance that we will find other guests. To confirm that you have read the entire description, please include the secret word "rockefeller" in your inquiry to me. Guest AccessTV, wifi, full kitchen, baby grand piano, back yard Interaction with GuestsThis is a private listing so you will be on your own but we will greet you and be available to assist you during your stay! I love showing people around, so let me know if you want to explore together. I live only a few blocks away in another of our listings. The Neighborhood* Located in Union City, NJ, a short direct bus ride to Times Square area and all sightseeing attractions. * Five blocks from gorgeous Manhattan views (along Hudson River) * Best 'cafe con leche' in town on corner. Getting AroundSuper easy buses that run 24/7 all night. Fare is $3 and you catch the bus in front of the New York Times Building on 8th Ave. You can also take NJ Transit #123, or 154, 159 - too many options to list! ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ About Transportation: I have received many questions from people who don't believe it possible to be outside of Manhattan and so close to it, yet it's true. Here are some facts about transportation: ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ 1. House is 5 minutes (6 blocks) from the bus stop. 2. The bus is very frequent, I rarely wait for it more than 2 to 3 minutes. Most of the time you won't even wait at all. You will step to the bus stop and a bus will be there. 3. Buses are available 24/7 so you can catch them even when you spend the whole evening out. No joke. 4-The price of these express buses is $3 onboard, and $2.50 if you buy tickets at ticket window #23 at Port Authority Bus Terminal 5. You won't find these buses timetable or route on the internet, it's a private bus company that runs many lines in and out of Manhattan. * City bus runs every 12 minutes to Hoboken, home of the Cake Boss and every 20 minutes (during commute hours) into Manhattan * Easy city bus access to Jersey Garden Outlet Mall, much closer and as good as Woodbury Commons Other Things to NoteWe have a Ring video doorbell so we can monitor the building exterior. Package delivery: Have your packages sent in advance, and placed in your apartment for your arrival. Ask us for details. $5 per package, weight limits apply. *****PARKING***** PARKING: If you plan on driving you will need a visitor parking permit for your car. Please let us know 48 hours in advance so that we can reserve a permit for you. There is a $50 deposit required for the permit, and the money will be refunded when the permit is returned. The deposit and refund will be handled through Airbnb's "alteration" option which allows us to modify the booking (the modification, in this case, will be the addition of the deposit fee). Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) BrickHouse Q: How will I get the keys? A: No keys! Just a four digit door code, specific to your booking. The door code will be active from 4pm on your check-in day until 11am on your check out day. Q: Is it near the subway? A: We are across the river from midtown, but there is no subway access (yet). Instead, we commute by the super awesome “chicken buses” or private jitney buses, that run every 5 minutes, all day and all night. As in 24/7 access. The cost is $3 per trip and I’ll send you detailed info once you’ve booked. Q: Is the neighborhood safe? A: Union City is a very comfortable and easy place to be in. There are tons of families, professionals, apartments, private houses and the streets are well lit. You can walk home at any time of the night and not be bothered. Q: Do I need to bring towels, a hair dryer, or linens? A: Nope! I provide all these things. Same with basic toiletries such as soap, shampoo, hand soap Q: Can my friend sleep on the sofa? A: I’m very particular about the guest count. You may only have the number of guests stay that you booked for. What if there is an emergency and we need to evacuate the building? Don’t you want me to know how many people are there? Please communicate with me if you have a last minute friend want to stay with you. Q: What's my total booking price? A: Hosts see a different screen then guests. You’ll see the final price on the pre-approval, or you can check the final price yourself by entering your dates and the number of guests. The system will calculate the amount and show you the total (but it won’t show me the final total as I don’t see the service fee). figure should be present after you enter your dates. Q: Does the house look the same as the photos? A: Yes, the pictures were taken by the official airbnb photographer. I may change around the linens or move some cushions around, but it looks like the pictures. Actually, this is a new dining room table, we thought it was better to have a larger table. One last thing: Because you read this entire listing to the end, you get bonus points for your ability to follow directions. To redeem them (for increased chance of booking!) just include the phrase “I read the FAQs!" at the top of your message. ABOUT PARKING: Being an urban area, parking is tight. For those who are not familiar with the parking system in the US, you must adhere to the parking rules - ie NO parking in fire zones / handicapped zones; sweep days; parking meters need to be adhered to and if you get a ticket, do not assume that you will not get another one if you don't move your car. Grab a delicious hero sandwich from La Bella Salumeria or roast chicken to go from Kikiriki. Lots to explore around here. Make sure you check my Guidebook for more info.

The SpaceI've been told my house has "good bones"- an appropriate description of Weehawken homes built at the turn of the century. It has an open, airy feel with a lovely flow of energy. Feng shui principles were employed to create a cozy and inviting environment. All the ceilings are 9 and a half feet high and the mouldings are original as are the solid oak floors running throughout. The dining room ceiling is original tin - you can still find it in some of the old bars in Manhattan! You can hear birds chirping in the morning and a pin drop at night! It is a child friendly place and families are more than welcome to stay here. There are two bedrooms on opposite sides of the apartment, one with bunk beds and one with a full sized bed. I supply plenty of blankets, linens and towels for your comfort There is a dining room in addition to the spacious kitchen and a living room with space enough to sleep more guests if necessary. The apartment is equipped with WIFI, Smart Tv, FREE Netflix movies, YouTube, Hulu and more! Please make use of the full service kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, coffee pot, etc.....The there is a deli directly across the street for milk and juice, as well as other household items you may have forgotten. Weehawken Heights is a 10 minute bus ride away from Manhattan's Time Square! but the area itself is quite suburban in its feel. (The bus costs $3.25 and discount tickets can be purchased in advance!) This property is nestled among several dead end streets where traffic is minimal and quiet is the norm. In terms of dining and food, Weehawken is home to Turkish, Indian, Italian, and Thai Cuisine. All quite tasty and within a mile of the house. Guests can use the Public Library and there is a large shopping mall for groceries, post office, haircuts, etc. Walk 4 short blocks to the end of the main road and there is a Community Lines bus waiting for you to take you to The City. No need to look at a schedule - a bus comes literally every 2 minutes! Once you stay in Weehawken, you'll be spoiled by the commute! If you prefer the more scenic route, just hop on the Ferry Shuttle (every 30min. during peak hours) and in 5 minutes you will be at The Wehawken Ferry Terminal. The boat will get you across to Manhattan's West Side in a few minutes! Guest AccessThe apartment is equipped with wireless internet, Smart TV, Netflix, Hulu, and more! The SpaceThis is a bright and fresh two bedroom apartment on the main floor of a three story building. You'll have 5 steps from the steps to climb. The back bedroom has a queen size bed, bedside table and lots of closet space. East facing window for a lovely breeze at night. This room has a private four piece bathroom (toilet, sink, shower, tub). The second bedroom has two single beds, plenty of closet space and storage. There is a second full bathroom in the common area. The living room has a sleeper sofa for additional sleeping spots. You will have your own keys so that you can come and go as you wish. Parking: Very important - we must know in advance (48 hour notice) if you are driving and need to make parking arrangements. Parking can get very tricky as there is no designated parking spot with the apartment and street parking spots are limited. ** Street parking - good option if you arrive before 5pm, as spots are very limited. Let us know if you decide to park in the lot or on the street, as we’ll provide you with a visitor permit ($25 deposit, held until permit is returned ). We need advance notice to secure a permit for you, we may not be able to provide a permit if you don't let us know in advance that you'll have a car. **Coin-op washer/dryer downstairs ** Patio area behind apartment where you can have a cigarette (please close apt windows first) or just sit with a cup of coffee. **Fast, reliable wifi **Full kitchen I live right around the corner and I'm available to help you however I can. But you have to go through the tunnel, so it takes about 10 minutes, could be a bit longer in times of heavy traffic. Buses run EVERY 5 minutes, you will never wait longer than this. Super convenient. 24/7 bus stop is less than 2 blocks away, and easy to walk home at any time of the night. You will have detailed info on how to get in/out of the city. I provide an info binder in the apartment. This is a very low crime area, it's filled with families and people who live in Weehawken and likely work in the city. It's a great place! I have another listing across the street, and another around the corner. If you're lost, just ask for Maria, everyone knows me. There is a great store on the corner where you can get a yummy bacon and egg sandwich in the morning, and another store where you can get a six pack of beer at 9pm. Lots of small restaurants nearby. * Coin-op washer/dryer in basement * Patio area in back * Fast reliable wifi * Completely private for your group, not shared This is a quiet neighborhood near one of the major traffic arteries into Manhattan. We're a few blocks from the Lincoln Tunnel, but far enough away that you can rest comfortably without having crazy city noise to deal with. Spending the day in NYC is so much fun, but it's also fun to have a relaxing place to rest so that you can tackle touring again the next day! ABOUT TRANSPORTATION: Believe it or NOT – it is possible to be outside of Manhattan and so close to it, yet it's true. Here are some facts about transportation: 1. Apartment is 2 minutes (3 blocks) walking from the Park Avenue bus stop. 2. The jitney bus is very frequent, I rarely wait for it more than 2 to 3 minutes. Most of the time you won't even wait at all. You will get to the bus stop and a bus will be there. 3. Buses are available 24/7 so you can catch them even when you spend the whole evening out. 4. The price of these express buses is $3 onboard, and for one bus in particular (Gate 51) $2.50 if you buy tickets at ticket window #23 at Port Authority Bus Terminal. Please note that if you buy tickets for this bus, you can only use the tickets FOR this bus, not on the "all night" buses. 5. You won't find a timetable or route on the internet for these buses, it's a private bus company that runs many lines in and out of Manhattan. You can look on Wiki under "Spanish Transportation" if you're interested in the history of this private service. 6. NJTransit #22 runs every 30 minutes into Hoboken, home of the Cake Boss, Birthplace of Frank Sinatra and Baseball (where you can also catch the PATH into Manhattan 33rd Street and/or the World Trade Center) and NJTransit #123 every 15-30 minutes (during commute hours) into Manhattan’s Port Authority (42nd Street & 8th Avenue – Times Square) * Easy city bus access to Jersey Garden Outlet Mall, much closer and as good as Woodbury Commons. We are also close to Hoboken, Weehawken and Jersey City. This is one of four apartments in this building. There are two doors to the apartment, and we ask that you use the back entrance door. The front entrance door has a deadbolt from inside, so you can easily use this door in case of emergency. I'm happy to help you find a great show to see, a fantastic restaurant for a special celebration or a great New York gift for your granny. I live in the neighborhood so you can always reach me by stopping by or by phone or email. I love to see people walking their dogs, kids playing outside and the way the light changes the view of the city from our side. You'll never get tired of listening to the great Jersey accent. You'll be able to walk home from the bus and feel comfortable whether you are a single female traveler or a group of wrestlers - the streets are well lit, the buses run all day and all night and everyone is friendly and helpful. The 24/7 bus picks up and drops off two blocks away, and the buses go to one place only - near Times Square. There is literally no way to get lost if you are taking a bus that is traveling east. This apartment is in a quiet residential building with people who work in the city. Everyone appreciates their restful nights sleep, so please keep that in mind. All guests must be counted - babies, kids, toddlers included. Guest Access* Outdoor patio area (entrance through side of building) * Coin washer/dryer in basement * Towels, bed linens, blankets provided * Fast, reliable wifi * Full kitchen Interaction with GuestsI am available in person, by various text messaging systems and email. I live nearby and am around all the time, so let me know how I can help you. The NeighborhoodWeehawken is a hidden gem. We're at the last stop in NJ before going into the Lincoln Tunnel so super close to Manhattan. Very walkable neighborhood, even late at night. Bright street lights, very low crime, lots of families sitting on their stoops or playing outside. Getting AroundWe are so close to Manhattan, and if you could fly, you'd be there in 3km's. Have your packages sent in advance, and placed in your apartment for your arrival. Ask us for details. $5 per package, weight limits apply. Coming in early and flying out late? Once the booking is complete I will email you additional details including options for travel from the airport, bus stations, etc. When you arrive at the apartment you'll find an info binder with specific info on how to take the bus, where to go grocery shopping, cool places I love in the city, nice walks to see the view etc. It is important to me that you have a great vacation and a relaxing time, so don't worry too much about the small details as we will make sure you are comfortable with how things work so that you can have a stress free holiday.

The SpacePlease click "+More" below to see ALL of the info I provide about Union City, our house, and our expectations before messaging me. In this detailed description you will find the answers most of your questions. I also have a few questions for you too, which I'd like you to answer in your first message to me. I know it can be hard to choose a good room near NYC! So here I have included all the information that, if I were you, I would like to know prior to booking this room. Honesty is the best policy, so I try to tell you the positives and negatives of each room in an easy to read format as the last picture of every listing. First, please copy and paste THIS link to see all of my 250+ reviews: https://www.airbnb.com/users/show/2028149#reviews If you are interested in seeing my other available rooms, please copy and paste THIS link to see the other listings that I have: https://www.airbnb.com/s?host_id=2028149 On that page, you can enter your dates and number of guests to see which rooms I have available. ABOUT UNION CITY Union City is a hidden gem just across the Hudson River from Manhattan, in New Jersey. It is CLOSER to midtown Manhattan (a very quick bus ride, during good traffic) and major tourist attractions (like Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Central Park, the Broadway/Theater District, Grand Central, the Garment District, tons of museums) than anywhere in Brooklyn, Queens, and even much of Manhattan. In addition, Union City is vastly quieter, more affordable, and, in our opinion, friendlier than New York City. WHY STAY WITH US: * Secure housing with extremely involved, Ivy-league educated hosts who take care of your every need. * Real home that your hosts own and care for. * Great for interns, students, or young professionals. * Buses to New York City (Times Square) 3 blocks away. * Buses come frequently (every 2 minutes during rush hour), run throughout the day and night, and are $2.50-$3.20 per trip. Most buses are operated by a private company and therefore don’t appear on "G" maps or other online mapping services. * Supermarket, restaurants, pharmacy, post office, gym, movie theater, and beautiful skyline views all within easy walking distance. * Private room with electronic key code access that works only for you. * Special deals for longer term guests (discount is automatically applied for stays over 1 month). * We sometimes do events with our guests (lunches, dinners, karaoke), because we love getting to know people! * Unparalleled value for the amenities and location. ABOUT THIS ROOM: Room Includes: * Single bed * Small dresser with mirror * Small shelf * Small garment rack to hang clothing * TV with Netflix and Hulu in living room, shared with Luxe Bedroom (not cable) * Air conditioning unit in window in summer, baseboard heating in winter Positives: * Price * Shares large bathroom, living room, kitchen with only 1 other bedroom * Lots of natural light Negatives: * VERY SMALL. Not a great room for somebody who is messy, has a lot of stuff, or intends to spend a lot of time at home. * Cannot accommodate guests * The room faces the street so you may hear noise/traffic sometimes. The neighbors at the house next door can sometimes be loud, but we can ask them to be quiet if you tell us. We want you to feel as comfortable as possible while you’re here, so we’ll do anything and everything we can to ensure your enjoyment. ABOUT US: We have hosted well over 300 guests, and have loved every minute of it. John and I met during college, and we are both lawyers. I work as an attorney practicing corporate law at a big law firm in Manhattan. John left law to run his own technology startup full time. We love movies, wine, travel, and having a good time. We own two dogs (Ted and George) and one cat (Hugo). We love Disney, karaoke, and getting our hands dirty on house projects! Education is very expensive in the U.S., so we use the extra income that Airbnb provides us to help pay student loans from school. ABOUT YOU/OUR EXPECTATIONS: We like friendly, easy-going, independent guests. If you’re booking with us, we expect you to be friendly and courteous to everyone else who is staying at our house (us and our other guests). You should be comfortable living in a group situation. Since several people live in the house, you should expect the bathroom and common areas to have a communal, “lived-in” feeling. If you’ve had bad experiences living with others before in this type of situation, you should consider “entire apartment/home” listings on Airbnb or a hotel. Please also have reasonable expectations about what you’re getting for the money that you’re paying. Recognize that things in the New York City area are more expensive than almost everywhere else in the United States and many parts of the world, and the value you get in your hometown is different than what you may get here. We provide affordable/budget accommodations to (mostly younger) travelers. If you look at our listing and compare it to other rooms in the area, you’ll notice that our prices are lower than most. This is because we provide a clean, comfortable private room at a reasonable price, but you’ll share a bathroom and kitchen with other guests in a home. That means that, try as we might, sometimes someone may leave a dirty dish in the sink, or there will be hair in the shower drain. We provide a weekly, professional cleaning of the common spaces, and additional cleaning if issues arise, but you should not expect a truly immaculate home at all times, simply because this is not possible in a group living situation. Most importantly, we expect you to be a good communicator. We are more than happy to fix or address any problems that come up during your stay. Our #1 goal is to make you happy. Just let us know early and often how you are doing or if there is anything we can do better, because we cannot fix what we do not know about. OUR QUESTIONS FOR YOU: We like to get to know our guests, so in your first message to us, please tell us the following info about yourself: - Your age - Where you're from - What you study/do for a living - What brings you to NY, and what you'll do during the days? - Have you ever lived with other people? If so, please describe the experience. - Have you owned cats and dogs? If not, do you like them? PRICE OF ROOM AND PAYMENT: Sometimes, Airbnb will advertise our rooms at one price but when you enter your specific dates you may see a different price. This is because the price per night or per month for each of our rooms varies depending on many factors such as seasonal tourism trends (rooms tend to be cheaper in the off season) or our own availability across rooms, among other factors. The only way to see the exact price you will pay is to enter your exact dates and number of guests--this shows you the all-in price that you will pay. The cleaning fee is a one time fee which covers cleaning your room and washing your sheets prior to arrival. We do not charge extra for the extra amenities we provide such as laundry, internet, weekly common area cleanings, or your use of utilities - the price you see when you enter your dates exactly is the price you will pay. Payment for all of our transactions is handled through Airbnb. Airbnb collects payment, which includes the amount that we get as a host, Airbnb’s fee (6 to 12% of the total cost), and any applicable taxes (Airbnb may charge a VAT for guests from Europe). For longer-term guests: Airbnb will verify you have the ability to pay the first month of the reservation when you book. You’ll be charged for your first month a few days prior to your arrival. When you check in, Airbnb releases the money to us. Every subsequent month, you’ll be charged for the upcoming month through Airbnb. Unfortunately, we don’t have any control over the billing process or over Airbnb’s fee or taxes so, if you’re experiencing any issues with billing, only Airbnb can help. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: Do you allow long-term guests? Yes, most of our guests are long-term guests. We usually host students, interns, and people moving temporarily to NYC for several months to a year. We discount the price of rooms for long term guests and the discount is applied AUTOMATICALLY if you enter dates of more than a month. We are VERY selective with long term guests to make sure that people are a good personality fit for our houses, we would rather a room be empty than take someone John and I are not completely comfortable with. Having hosted over 300 people on this philosophy, we have gotten really good at choosing great people to fill our houses and have only had great experiences with our guests! We love getting to know our guests personally and we try to host at least one event per month, where we invite people from the different houses to get to know each other. In the last year we have done several karaoke nights, gone to the beach, gone to sports games, picnics, international potluck dinners, game nights, pizza nights, biergarten trip, etc.. We have a group for our guests on the infamous social network that starts with an F, and people can post about events in the city, museums they would like to go to, etc, and find other people who are interested in going with them. Our goal is to create a really warm, positive and friendly community of interesting people in our houses, the type of people that we'd like to be friends with. It can be hard to come to a new city and not know anyone, so we try to choose awesome people that we think would make wonderful friends, then provide people the opportunity to get to know each other through group events. Is Union City safe? Union City is an extremely safe, quiet, largely residential area mostly comprised of families of Latin American descent who work in New York or nearby. I frequently work extremely late hours in New York (often arriving home after 11 PM) and always walk home alone from the bus stop. Many of our previous and current guests are the same. We’ve never had any issues and, if we ever did, there is a police station about 2 blocks from our home. John works at home and is always nearby. Is Union City an urban area? Yes. Like all of New York City and its surroundings, Union City is a densely populated area. This means that homes are built next to each other or very close to each other, most houses are duplexes (2 families) or triplexes (3 families) (or more) with a full basement. Parking can be difficult, and you’ll encounter lots of people walking on the sidewalks during the day. Public transit is heavily used and, although is safe and efficient, isn’t always kept in pristine condition. Although our home has been renovated, most homes in the area are over 100 years old, and some are substantially older. Guests from other areas of the United States or more suburban areas of the world may experience something of a culture shock in the New York City area because of this—but don’t worry, John and I understand (we both grew up outside the northeast in the suburbs) and, if you don’t already, you’ll come to love it! Is it really 20 minutes to New York City? The stated listing time is in good traffic, and if you leave at the same time everyone else leaves (rush hour is between around 7:45am-10am, 5pm-8pm), you'll probably face a bit of a delay. That said, it's EXTREMELY easy to get to NY! I make the commute everyday and all of our 300+ guests have come to visit NYC! The best time to catch good traffic going to New York is around 7am and after 10am. The buses run 24/7. Most locals take a private bus called the “jitney” which is $2.50 per trip if you buy tickets in advance, or $3 on the bus. There is no monthly bus pass for the jitney, but it is the best option to get to New York. There is also a more expensive public bus, run by New Jersey Transit, which is $3.20 a trip or for which you can buy a monthly unlimited pass, and a multitude of other options (including a ferry and the PATH train—both of which are longer than the bus into the city, but can be used if you’d like). Union City is situated around the Lincoln Tunnel, which crosses the Hudson River into Manhattan, letting you off at Times Square. Rarely, there may be traffic accidents or delays on the tunnel that can make traveling longer (however, this is also the case on virtually any transportation option, including the subway in New York). We’ll give you all the information on how to get to and from New York, and to other parts of New Jersey (such as Hoboken and Jersey Gardens (a great outlet mall) when you arrive). Are there grocery stores and restaurants nearby? Yes, there are several grocery stores within walking distance, and tons of restaurants two blocks away. Can I use the kitchen? Yes, of course: feel free to store food in the refrigerator, and to cook to your heart’s content! Can I park my car? There is free street parking in front of and all around our house. I don’t advise driving to and from New York City during your stay, but you can park your car for the duration of your visit. You’ll need to move your car on street cleaning days (once a week), and, if you want to park late at night (after 8 PM) it will take you a long time to find a spot. Most guests find it is easier to not bring a car if it isn’t needed for your trip. Do you live in the house? No, we don’t live in this house. We live in another house nearby, but stop by frequently usually in the evenings. John works from home and, if any issues arise, we can be here within a few minutes. We are extremely responsive through Airbnb, phone, text messages, or any other form of communication you’d like to use. How far is it from Newark airport, JFK, or LaGuardia? Newark airport is a 15-30 minute taxi ride (public transit is possible, but will take longer). Both JFK and LaGuardia are a substantial distance from our house, and also from Manhattan in general (over an hour). You can use a variety of public transit to get from JFK or LaGuardia to us (the subway, a public bus, a private bus, a taxi, or any combination of these options). We’ll give you detailed instructions when you book. Almost all of our international guests fly into JFK airport, and it is not a problem to get to there from our house – just expect the trip to take about 2 hours to be sure. (Unfortunately, JFK is far from everything cool in Manhattan!) Guest AccessGuests will have access to their private bedroom, which has a private lock. Guests will also have access to a shared bathroom, living room and kitchen. Interaction with GuestsWe host on Airbnb because we love getting to know other people from other cultures, and sharing our American culture with others. However, both of us are busy young professionals and we work really long hours, and are not always home. Frequently we don’t get a chance to meet short term guests, particularly if you are at another house, but we will make time to meet you if you let us know it is important to you. We may not be home when you arrive, depending on when you get in, but we will prepare the room for you and give you a secure access code so that you can check in at any time. We genuinely love interacting with our guests, and if you have questions or need anything we can either speak while we're at home, or you can call, text, or email and we'll respond right away. The NeighborhoodWe love our neighborhood's proximity to New York, but, at the same time, really feels like a neighborhood! There are lots of families, churches, schools, and bars and restaurants nearby. It's a safe neighborhood right near a police station, and crime is very rare. People are friendly and welcoming, there are a lot of people in this area who speak Spanish. Compared to other areas, Union City is incredibly affordable. In New York, it might cost you $10-15 to buy breakfast. In Union City, it costs $3-5! We enjoy living here and commuting into New York each day, because it allows us to have more space, keep our costs down, and live somewhere nice and quiet. Getting AroundAs noted above, it is incredibly easy to get to and from New York City. Other Things to NoteJohn and I met at Yale University, where he studied History and I studied Portuguese language. We both went on to study law, he at Cornell and I at the University of Michigan. I work as an attorney practicing corporate law in Manhattan. John left law to run his own technology startup full time. We love movies, wine, travel, and having a good time. We're excited to welcome you to our house!

ABOUT TRANSPORTATION: Believe it or NOT – it is possible to be outside of Manhattan and so close to it, yet it's true. Here are some facts about transportation: 1. Apartment is 4 minutes ((2 blocks) from the central bus stop at post office. 2. The jitney bus is very frequent, I rarely wait for it more than 2 to 3 minutes. Most of the time you won't even wait at all. You will get to the bus stop and a bus will be there. 3. Buses are available 24/7 so you can catch them even when you spend the whole evening out. 4. The price of these express buses is $3 on board, and $2.50 if you buy tickets at ticket window #23 at Port Authority Bus Terminal 5. You won't find a timetable or route on the internet for these buses, it's a private bus company that runs many lines in and out of Manhattan 6.
