The SpaceThe Canadaway woods burst out with ripe apples, and the intoxicating smell of ripe grapes will fill the air. The porch swing and a couple of rocking chairs are waiting for you and a good book.
Three big bedrooms upstairs and a small one down, each with one full size bed, can accommodate up to 8 people. And 3 bathrooms means no lines! Each bedroom is furnished in local antiques and homemade quilts or coverlets. Two bathrooms open up off the hall, one with a shower, one with a generously sized claw foot tub. All the woodwork is grained beautifully, and each room has period wallpaper.
The first floor has a dining room with original pass through cupboard, kitchen, powder room, living room and parlor, where lots of board games are stored and thick orientals are underfoot. Or pull up by the radio! The kitchen is fully furnished. Most of the time, the birds, or maybe a chain saw far away. or a farm dog or chicken will be all you hear. The occasional car or truck is a surprise!
Choosing how to explore the area will be a challenge. Will you want to hunt for antiques? Chautauqua County is a mecca! Or quilts? The Amish women down the road in Cherry Creek and South Dayton have a lot to show you. Or maybe you want to do wine tasting at the vineyards on the other side of the hill. Are you ready for good music? Festivals in Fredonia, Chautauqua, barge music, beach music, are scheduled all (website hidden) the winter, cinema series and HD broadcasts of the Metropolitan Opera are nearby.
Driving time from Buffalo is one hour, to Niagara Falls an hour and a half, and the Dunkirk-Fredonia Thruway exit is 10 minutes away. But you will be in a gentler, quieter, place out of the past.
The fees include the NYState sales tax and the Chautauqua County bed tax. Guest AccessThe whole house will be yours, plenty of parking, and a large porch to watch the sunset and the wildlife. The full basement is the mudroom. Gather around the firepit under the Norway Maple. There is plenty of wood in the woodpile. Interaction with GuestsI am on call for any problems, but usually just leave the key in a secure place for guests. The NeighborhoodThe Canadaway Woods and Arkwright are surrounded by parkland and hiking paths. The snows are reliable and substantial. Just down the hill is LilyDale, home of the American Spiritualist Community, and close by is Chautauqua institution, with its plays, concerts, lectures and charm. But beer, spirits and wine tasting opportunities abound. Getting AroundThere is plenty of parking in our driveways. In the winter the driveway is a challenge for cars that don't have 4-wheel drive or snow tires as it is downhill from the road.
