The SpaceThis rental room is right in town, walkable to everything--dining, shopping, exploring, rock climbing, etc.
Comfortable and airy, the room is upstairs in our house ... so you have to cross through our space coming and going. Tall leafy trees outside make you feel like you are staying in a treehouse, with dappled sunlight coming in. Because it's in the back of the house, it's quiet and private.
Double bed, suitable for one person or a couple. Futon sofa, for hanging out or maybe tucking in a kid. (It's our son's room and he's moved out.)
You have your own bathroom with shower.
If the weather is warm, there are windows to open (we've taken the air conditioner out for the year). If you'd like to be extra-warm at night, in addition to the blankets and comforter on the bed, we provide a small space heater and just ask that you pull it out into the middle of the room when it is on (away from stuff).
This is a well-preserved older home in the Historic District. As such, it is not like staying in a motel--it is comfy, not fancy; it is clean, not antiseptic. You will find it quiet, private, and very comfortable. Guest AccessYou will have to come in our front door, through our kitchen, and up the back stairs to your room. Up there, you'll have total privacy.
You may use our kitchen when we are at home. Interaction with GuestsAs much or as little as you wish. We're nice, but we'll leave you alone if you are busy.
On parle français!
We do not serve breakfast, as a rule--not because we are bad cooks, but because Little Falls is fortunate to have a really wonderful local diner a short walk away on our Main Street. We are always urging our guests to go try their delicious, locally-sourced, home-cooked food. Look it up! It's called--appropriately--That Little Place on Main.
That said, we are certainly happy to share our good coffee, or tea if you wish, juice, milk, toast, whatever, if you don't need a bigger breakfast, or if you want a wee snack before heading down to the diner... The NeighborhoodWe are right in town, in the Historic District. It is safe and quiet. Little Falls is a very walkable community. In moments, you can be at a grocery store, health-food coop, movie theater, brewpub, good breakfast/lunch diner, coffee cafe, Ole Sal's Cafe and Creamery, great gift and antique shops, etc. Nice, shady in-town parks. Five or so minutes to Erie Canal/Mohawk River with paths for biking, walking, running. Visit Lock 17 and watch, or try, Moss Island rock climbing! We're also not far from a couple of beautiful waterfalls and can give you directions. Getting AroundYou can easily walk to everything. Parking is on-street...on the right side of our street/across the street from our home. (Wintertime parking is trickier, but we'll find you a spot.)
EASY-ON, EASY-OFF: 5 minutes to the Thruway.
40 minutes to Cooperstown.
20 minutes to Utica.
1 hour to Albany. Other Things to NoteWe have an older, sweet golden retriever.
If you are traveling with a good dog and want to stay with us, our downstairs room---with a door to the outdoors, deck, our backyard---is suitable; please consider that listing instead, only a few $ more. ("Comfy private room w/bathroom, Little Falls, NY")
The local YMCA is steps from our door; you can work out or use the pool or sauna for a day fee. If you are a runner or cyclist, we can point you to good routes.
No TV in your room, sorry. Good for sleeping! :)
