The SpaceA charming Cape-Cod style cottage, known as "The Little Red House" - is listed as the oldest house in Dobbs Ferry, being built around 1828. The guest bedroom is on the second floor along with two other family bedrooms. The bathroom is shared. The guest bedroom is small but cozy with a single bed, small desk, chest of drawers and a partial closet. There is no A/C in the summer but we have fans. Another slightly smaller bedroom just recently renovated and restored with a slightly narrower bed complete with chest of drawers, small gentleman's desk and bookshelf is also available on the same floor for a slightly discounted rate. There is no closet in this room. Perfect for parent with child, or two friends each wanting their own room. ** At the moment this 2nd smaller room has a full length curtain across the doorway, not a door as I am still looking for a resalvaged vintage door to go here. Guest needs to be aware of this. Guest AccessThe guest is welcome to use the whole house which is shared between me and my grown up twin sons. The house has a small galley kitchen, a dining room and a living room. Kitchen privileges are use of fridge to store items, microwave, tea and coffee making and light use of the stove. There is a lovely back patio along with a grill and a picnic table under a green canopy that looks across a small back garden. The house has a small front porch for sitting, and boasts an English garden bursting with flowers in the spring and early summer. Interaction with GuestsWe are a friendly family and interested in getting to know our guests to the extent with which they would like to interact. We also respect the need for "down time" and quietitude. The NeighborhoodGreat safe neighborhood. Friendly local people who know each other. We are a leisurely 12 min downhill walk to the train station (38 -50 min ride to Grand Central), and a 1 min stroll around the corner to all the local restaurants, shops and main grocery store. The Bee Line bus stop is just 50 yds down the street, taking you to White Plains or Yonkers. The 27 mile Old Croton Aqueduct is also within arms reach, a paradise for hikers, joggers and bikers and we have a local riverside park for picnicking. The historic home of Washington Irving, "Sunnyside" is right up the street in the next village of Irvington; and Lyndhurst Castle in Tarrytown, both open to the public. The SpaceMy apartment is bright and charming, if I do say so myself. You have access to the whole apartment, which was entirely renovated in 2015. It is clean with modern furnishings and original hardwood floors and detailing. It's cozy (somewhere around 900 square feet/80 square meters), but not small. There's a main bedroom with a king-sized Italian lacquer bed, which is ideal for a couple or business traveler. The extra room doubles as an office (with high speed, wireless Internet) and a guest bedroom with a twin (39x75 inch) brass bed, Serta mattress and box spring. The kitchen has all new major appliances ... stove, oven, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, and some smaller items, such as a toaster oven, Nespresso coffee machine, toaster, blender, etc. (There will almost certainly be some food in the fridg - some half-and-half for coffee, butter, etc.) The living room/TV room is very pleasant with a large, comfortable couch, a 46 inch TV (with FIOS, Netflix, HBO and Showtime) and a wall of books and memorabilia from my extensive travels. The bathroom is very big (by NYC standards) with a stand-up shower/tub. There are pleasant views in all four directions (North, East, South, West) with windows that open and allow a pleasant breeze in Spring and Fall. In Summer, there are three air conditioners: One in the living room, and a second and third AC in each bedroom, as well as some fans. And the hard wood floor (which is the second floor ceiling) has sound proofing. For longer stays, in the entryway to the house, there is a new washer and dryer on the ground floor. One can wash clothes as needed here in the house. Alternatively, there is also a fine laundry service that is very close. They will wash clothes for you. They charge about $1.20 per pound of clothes to wash, dry and fold them. Guest AccessWhile daylight hours are preferred for "check-in", we can meet you and provide access pretty much any time 24/7 with some advance planning. There is a key to the front door of the house, and, there's a key to the apartment, which is on the third floor via stairs (no elevator). Transportation - local bus stops are a block away. The apartment is an easy walk (15 minutes) to the Dobbs Ferry Station, on the Metro North line next to the Hudson River, which runs South to Grand Central Station in Manhattan. While Westchester airport (code HPN) is the closest, La Guardia (LGA) - and even JFK - is easier if taking something other than a taxi. From LGA or JFK airports, one option is to take the NYCairporter bus ((URL HIDDEN) from airport to Grand Central Station (about $14-18) and the train from Grand Central to Dobbs Ferry (about $9-11). That's about two hours "door-to-door". Taxis and Uber are also options, but pricey (about $60 to HPN and $80-90 to JFK). You'll want to avoid New Jersey (Newark) unless you know someone to drive and pick you up.If you are two or more people, there are dependable car services (which is really a van). About $65-$70 for two plus tip. For two people, that's probably what I'd do. Call and ask them how it works. ( (URL HIDDEN) or call (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) or email (EMAIL HIDDEN) ). Interaction with Guests"My goal is to combine the luxury of home with the convenience of a hotel to your satisfaction." All questions are welcome - before, during and after your stay. I can always be reached by phone call, text message or email. Let me make your stay as perfect as possible. I travel a fair amount. If not me, someone will meet you at the door at your convenience to provide keys and give you a familiarization tour. There is a visitor's guide with local eatery and tourism suggestions and "apartment user help". And we're usually a 10 minute walk away to address any more pressing needs. The NeighborhoodMy apartment is located on a quiet street across from a lovely church and the local Diner on the other side. Out back there is a school, and you can sometimes hear the muted sounds of children playing soccer in the afternoon. There are many local eateries nearby, including delightful places like Cafe Latte, where the owner will charm you in Italian, and Piccola Trattoria, which has sensational food! Use a search engine or Yelp to check out eateries on Cedar Street, which is right around the corner from my apartment. It's just a block away from the main grocery store in Dobbs Ferry for a full range of food supplies. You can easily wander down to the Hudson River, next to the train station, and enjoy the beautiful sunsets. The Aqueduct is another great walking path, a pleasurable jaunt to the neighboring cities of Hastings and Irvington. All-in-all, Dobbs Ferry is a delightful merging of old world charm and modern convenience in a semi-rural setting with frequent deer sitings. It's safe and quaint, as well as being very close to Manhattan by train and also White Plains by car. Statistically speaking, Dobbs Ferry is a small community of 11,000 people that has only one bank in town (how small is that!) The median household income of Dobbs Ferry residents is about $108,000/year, and 30% of residents have a graduate or professional degree from college. Getting AroundBus stops are within a block of the apartment, and the train to Grand Central (Metro North line) is a 15 minute walk (12 mins if you walk fast) from my apartment. Take the train north to Tarrytown, more river towns and hiking areas. Walk to neighboring cities via the Aqueduct. Taxis and Uber are relatively easy to find. Check out a map to see the big range of everything that is within reach. Other Things to NoteWinter is here, and Dobbs Ferry makes for an excellent weekend getaway, and is ideally positioned for business travelers to the area. "Other Things" is where Dobbs Ferry really excels. This truly charming apartment is located in a historic river town, within close proximity to New York City, as well as the lower Hudson Valley Region. During summer, there are many free concerts in the various river towns and many events happening in New York City. Check out TimeOut New York for upcoming events! Additionally, there are many free concerts and other summer festivities in Westchester county if you wish to visit local sites. And, it's also convenient to many historical attractions in the region, from Kykuit, the beautiful Rockefeller property, to Washington Irving's Sunnyside Manor in addition to many other historic properties. Hiking. Water sports. Westpoint. Dia Beacon Art Gallery ... It's all within reach.

The SpaceGreat house, great village, great access to the city. That's why we moved here 5 years ago and why we think this place is a real find for anyone wanting to be in the New York metropolitan area for 6 or 7 months between Jan 2017 and July 2017. Hastings-on-Hudson is a cute quiet haven with lots of history and a 30 minute express train commute to Grand Central Terminal, in the heart of Manhattan. It’s known as one of the “Rivertowns,” four small villages along the Hudson famous for their laid-back vibe as well as their artistic and intellectual bent. You really have the best of both worlds, since fast commute into the city is matched by easy access to the charming orchards, farms, and nature of the lower Hudson Valley. If you want to learn more about Hastings, look for one or more of the recent articles in the New York Times Real Estate section featuring our village as it draws a new wave of families, especially from Brooklyn. One of the articles, for better-or-worse, was entitled “Hipsturbia.” Our place is centrally-located in the village. We routinely walk the 0.4 miles (0.6 km) to our local full-service grocery store, or 0.8 miles (1.2 km) to the Saturday Farmers’ Market, the gorgeous library overlooking the Hudson River, the train station, and the downtown shops and restaurants. The locals celebrate and frequent the downtown; it recently got a new taco place, a new gastro-pub is thriving, a new raw bar is coming soon, the sushi place is excellent, the falafel shop is a winner too. No chains here, just local businesses. We also take the five-minute stroll in the other direction, into miles of protected nature trails in the “Hillside Woods” or up to the local elementary school for the playground and fields. The house is a charming “Cape Cod,” recently remodeled, clean, and very comfortable. Four years ago we gutted the kitchen, opening it up to the dining room and adding all new appliances, floors, counters, cabinets, etc. It's fresh, clean, light, and in good shape. We also added a back deck, which is a wonderful place to grill and dine in the spring and summer. Come spring, the front porch is the perfect spot for sunsets or morning reading. The main sounds come from birds and neighborhood play. From the back deck you'll find a spacious, secluded, and inviting yard. Situated on a hillside, the space has been cultivated into a woodsy garden and veritable adventure playground. A playhouse, hammock, and tree swing invite kids and adults alike, while hanging lights and a fire pit extend the enjoyment past dark. Back inside you'll find a breakfast bar, an extendable dining room table, a comfortable living room, and three spacious bedrooms (two upstairs (king and twin) and one on the main floor (full)). The master has a small walk-in closet and room for two large dressers. The bedrooms have two windows each, all looking out on trees and greenery. Our neighbors on either side are above and below us and separated from us by trees, so the house feels very private. We remodeled the basement recently. There you'll find a large guest room/office (really another bedroom if desired) as well as a desk, printer, and access to the outdoors via the private driveway. Adjoining the guest room/office is a laundry room with space for storage and a work bench. There are two full bathrooms in the house, one (upstairs) recently remodeled. The floors are hardwood, with the exception of the basement which got fresh carpet a few years back. No pets or smokers have lived here and we ask that you not bring either. We have wifi, a TV, and stereo equipment throughout the house. Rent includes regular cleaning. We love this place and hope you will too! Let us know if you have any questions! Other Things to NotePrice is monthly. Longterm sublet only. Jan 2017-July 2017

Romantic, newly-renovated 2 bedroom in Dobbs Ferry. Near cafes, great restaurants, groceries & The Masters School. 38-48 minute train to Grand Central Station, New York. King-size bed. New kitchen. Hi-speed Internet. FIOS, HBO, Showtime & Netflix on a 46” screen. Windows on four sides. Warm, cozy and efficient. Guest Bedroom (with a twin-sized bed). Ideal for a charming getaway or business use. Situated on the Metro North train line between NYC and the Tarrytown / White Plains area. My 3rd floor apartment (2nd floor by European count) is bright and charming, if I do say so myself. "My goal is to combine the luxury of home with the convenience of a hotel to your satisfaction." All questions are welcome - before, during and after your stay. The neighborhood My apartment is located on a quiet street across from a lovely church and the local Diner on the other side. Getting around Bus stops are within a block of the apartment, and the train to Grand Central (Metro North line) is a 15 minute walk (12 mins if you walk fast) from my apartment. Take the train north to Tarrytown, more river towns and hiking areas. Walk to neighboring cities via the Aqueduct. Taxis and Uber are relatively easy to find. Check out a map to see the big range of everything that is within reach. Other things to note Winter is here, and Dobbs Ferry makes for an excellent weekend getaway, and is ideally positioned for business travelers to the area.
