The SpaceMy apartment is bright and charming, if I do say so myself. You have access to the whole apartment, which was entirely renovated in 2015. It is clean with modern furnishings and original hardwood floors and detailing. It's cozy (somewhere around 900 square feet/80 square meters), but not small. There's a main bedroom with a king-sized Italian lacquer bed, which is ideal for a couple or business traveler. The extra room doubles as an office (with high speed, wireless Internet) and a guest bedroom with a twin (39x75 inch) brass bed, Serta mattress and box spring. The kitchen has all new major appliances ... stove, oven, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, and some smaller items, such as a toaster oven, Nespresso coffee machine, toaster, blender, etc. (There will almost certainly be some food in the fridg - some half-and-half for coffee, butter, etc.) The living room/TV room is very pleasant with a large, comfortable couch, a 46 inch TV (with FIOS, Netflix, HBO and Showtime) and a wall of books and memorabilia from my extensive travels. The bathroom is very big (by NYC standards) with a stand-up shower/tub. There are pleasant views in all four directions (North, East, South, West) with windows that open and allow a pleasant breeze in Spring and Fall. In Summer, there are three air conditioners: One in the living room, and a second and third AC in each bedroom, as well as some fans. And the hard wood floor (which is the second floor ceiling) has sound proofing.
For longer stays, in the entryway to the house, there is a new washer and dryer on the ground floor. One can wash clothes as needed here in the house. Alternatively, there is also a fine laundry service that is very close. They will wash clothes for you. They charge about $1.20 per pound of clothes to wash, dry and fold them. Guest AccessWhile daylight hours are preferred for "check-in", we can meet you and provide access pretty much any time 24/7 with some advance planning. There is a key to the front door of the house, and, there's a key to the apartment, which is on the third floor via stairs (no elevator).
Transportation - local bus stops are a block away. The apartment is an easy walk (15 minutes) to the Dobbs Ferry Station, on the Metro North line next to the Hudson River, which runs South to Grand Central Station in Manhattan. While Westchester airport (code HPN) is the closest, La Guardia (LGA) - and even JFK - is easier if taking something other than a taxi. From LGA or JFK airports, one option is to take the NYCairporter bus ((URL HIDDEN) from airport to Grand Central Station (about $14-18) and the train from Grand Central to Dobbs Ferry (about $9-11). That's about two hours "door-to-door". Taxis and Uber are also options, but pricey (about $60 to HPN and $80-90 to JFK). You'll want to avoid New Jersey (Newark) unless you know someone to drive and pick you up.If you are two or more people, there are dependable car services (which is really a van). If not me, someone will meet you at the door at your convenience to provide keys and give you a familiarization tour. There is a visitor's guide with local eatery and tourism suggestions and "apartment user help". And we're usually a 10 minute walk away to address any more pressing needs. The NeighborhoodMy apartment is located on a quiet street across from a lovely church and the local Diner on the other side. Out back there is a school, and you can sometimes hear the muted sounds of children playing soccer in the afternoon. There are many local eateries nearby, including delightful places like Cafe Latte, where the owner will charm you in Italian, and Piccola Trattoria, which has sensational food! Use a search engine or Yelp to check out eateries on Cedar Street, which is right around the corner from my apartment. It's just a block away from the main grocery store in Dobbs Ferry for a full range of food supplies. You can easily wander down to the Hudson River, next to the train station, and enjoy the beautiful sunsets. The Aqueduct is another great walking path, a pleasurable jaunt to the neighboring cities of Hastings and Irvington. All-in-all, Dobbs Ferry is a delightful merging of old world charm and modern convenience in a semi-rural setting with frequent deer sitings. It's safe and quaint, as well as being very close to Manhattan by train and also White Plains by car.
Statistically speaking, Dobbs Ferry is a small community of 11,000 people that has only one bank in town (how small is that!) The median household income of Dobbs Ferry residents is about $108,000/year, and 30% of residents have a graduate or professional degree from college. Getting AroundBus stops are within a block of the apartment, and the train to Grand Central (Metro North line) is a 15 minute walk (12 mins if you walk fast) from my apartment. Take the train north to Tarrytown, more river towns and hiking areas. Walk to neighboring cities via the Aqueduct. Taxis and Uber are relatively easy to find. Other Things to NoteWinter is here, and Dobbs Ferry makes for an excellent weekend getaway, and is ideally positioned for business travelers to the area.
"Other Things" is where Dobbs Ferry really excels. This truly charming apartment is located in a historic river town, within close proximity to New York City, as well as the lower Hudson Valley Region. During summer, there are many free concerts in the various river towns and many events happening in New York City. Check out TimeOut New York for upcoming events! Additionally, there are many free concerts and other summer festivities in Westchester county if you wish to visit local sites. And, it's also convenient to many historical attractions in the region, from Kykuit, the beautiful Rockefeller property, to Washington Irving's Sunnyside Manor in addition to many other historic properties. Hiking. Water sports. Westpoint. Dia Beacon Art Gallery ... It's all within reach.
