The spacious main bedroom, which we call " the Blue Room" has a king size bed. A second large bedroom has a queen sized bed (Swedish foam mattress with adjustable firmness on each side). An adjacent large bedroom has a daybed which opens up into comfy twin beds. These two bedrooms are connected by swing open French doors, each having its own entrance from the hallway. The 4th cozy bedroom (and smallest) has a full sized bed. Guests will find the kitchen, dining area and living room highly functional, comfortable, warm feeling and full of Adirondack character. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, silverware, pots, pans, coffee maker, etc. Laundry machines are full sized with soap available for use while visiting. The lodge offers Cable TV, wireless internet access, and a hassle-free propane "wood" stove, where you can cuddle up and stare in to the flames, exhausted by the day's adventures. Season chills are kept out with heat monitors, and your host can light up the wood stove in the basement if temperatures drop severely. The standard for cleanliness is set high. Guests regularly comment on the immaculate and tidy feeling in the house. The walls of Dancing Fern Lodge are extremely fortunate to be graced with BEAUTIFUL Adirondack wildlife and landscape photographs taken by Caroline Fine, a well know photographer in the area. The artwork she has displayed at the lodge (including cards) are for sale. There is a propane fired barbeque grill on the covered front porch with seating for outdoor meals. Make sure you bring marshmallows, a guitar and some good stories for evening campfires! The picnic table and fire ring in the yard will provide hours of enjoyment on those evenings when you feel like sitting outside to enjoy the stars and peaceful sounds of night. Firewood is available for $5.00 per bundle if needed. Trails for cross-country skiers, snowshoers, and hikers abound. Guests can explore looping trails on the lodge's property or find their way (through a relatively open canopy) up to the peak of Oak Ridge for a breath taking view. The Jack Rabbit trail, Van Hoevenberg and Cascade cross country ski centers can be reached within moments. Whiteface Mountain Ski Center (downhill skiing) is not more than a 15 minute drive from the lodge. Upon request, guests are welcome to borrow snowshoes (adult and child sizes), as well as snow sleds. There are some fun sledding hills on the property and around Keene. A short hike north will take you to your hosts farmstead, where they keep chickens, horses and a large garden (spring through late fall). Guests are always welcome to visit the farm, help out with animal chores and might enjoy picking a basket full of organically grown vegetables, then hike "home' through the woods like Little Red Ridinghood to prepare an extra special dinner at the lodge. Don't worry, we've seen red fox here but never a wolf! Fishermen can access the river right at the bottom of the driveway. For those who like to swim in rivers and lakes, Joseph and Kaycie can direct you to some EXCELLENT swimming holes and beaches. We have tubes for borrowing upon request if you would like to luxuriate in the sun on a hot afternoon and float down river. While the lodge is tucked back in the woods on a hill not visible from the road, triathletes should know that the biking portion of the Ironman goes right by the lodge drive. Dancing Fern Lodge is located just 1 mile from the center of Keene, making it ideal for guests who would like to go for a peaceful morning or evening walk along the river, ending up in town for breakfast or dinner at the ADK Cafe or to grab a muffin and cup of coffee at Cedar Run (or a bottle of wine for later). While in town, you might want to peruse Dart Brook Rustic Goods store, peak in the Adirondack Attic (a high end thrift store), pick up milk or ice cream at Stewarts (convenience store and gas station), or a pint of maple syrup at Black Rooster Maple. Visit our historic little Keene Library, schedule a massage, or surround yourself with the colorful and fragrant plants at East Branch Organics (wine and spirits available there as well). For more information, please contact us with questions. * The rate of $125 per night is for 2 guests and one bedroom. If guests need a second bedroom, there will be a $50 fee. Additional guests will be charged $25 per person per night and will be given access to their own room (upon request). * For emergency purposes, upon registration guests must provide full names of everyone staying at the lodge and ages of all minors. * Security deposit $225. * 2 night minimum (2 night stays incur a $50 cleaning fee, 3 or more night bookings do not) Guest AccessGuests will have access to the full first floor (dining area, kitchen, laundry and living room), as well as the bathroom and one bedroom upstairs (more bedrooms available to additional guests). Interaction with GuestsInteraction with guests varies from group to group, depending on their needs and wishes. The NeighborhoodKeene is a stunningly beautiful quiet little mountain town, with a rich history and filled with active outdoor enthusiasts. Guests can expect to be met with warmth from our townspeople. Getting AroundTrailways has a bus stop in Keene Valley. However, given the rural nature of the area, a car is most useful. For travel around the more immediate area (Keene, Keene Valley, Upper Jay and Jay), a bike can certainly be excellent for transportation during warmer months. The lodge has a big driveway, with plenty of room for multiple vehicles.

The SpaceIf you are interested in relaxing by night and playing by day, this location can't be beat. Thinking about a stay with us?? We're minutes from it all...... Come relax in an upscale lower level accommodation with a private entrance. The studio includes the use of recycled and re-purposed materials which create a unique ambiance. Amenities include a microwave, coffee maker, mini fridge and toaster. Please note: There is no hot plate or heating surfaces (one previous guest almost burned place down). The studio also includes a small shower area, a sitting room, and an Audio Engine sound system for i-Pads/Pods/Phones. Enjoy your own music, or stream Pandora. We also have space heaters for individual heating needs, air conditioning, and PLENTY of extra comforters / towels and pillows. JUST ASK!! Happy to help. This convenient in-town-but-out-of-town get away is the perfect location for skiers, hikers, cyclist, outdoor enthusiasts, and athletes training and participating in Ironman Lake Placid. Minutes away are trail heads to most of the Adirondack High Peaks, and key cycling routes throughout Essex County, including the much talked about Ironman Loop (a.k.a. Glory Loop). The property is surrounded by State Land, is across the road from the mighty Ausable River (i.e., prime fishing and swimming holes), and is on a popular walking and running route that links into the Keene Town Trail. This rare find has a locked bike / gear storage area, gardens, a large south facing deck with Adirondack chairs. The studio is just seconds off the beaten path of Rt. 73, near the junction of Rt. 73 and Rt. 9N (think ADK Cafe) in Keene, is 5 minutes to Keene Valley, and is only 15 minutes from Lake Placid. Keene/Keene Valley offer the following shops, café's and restaurants: ADK Cafe ADK Market DartBrook Dry Goods Martha's Soaps East Branch Organics Wine Shop Cedar Run Bakery & Liquor Store Baxter Mountain Tavern Rustic Goods Store Ausable Inn & Liquor Store Keene Fitness NoonMark Diner SubAlpine Coffee Graze Well water is served daily from the tap! There's no need to purchase bottled water for your stay, unless you absolutely love that taste. Self check-in and check-out is provided. The owner is generally on the premises. If your stay is shorter than 7 days, your cost is inclusive of the required Essex County taxes of Sales Tax: 7.75%, and Occupancy Tax 3%, as well as a cleaning fee. Guest AccessThe lower level is located within a private residence which is not available for use. Interaction with GuestsI'm generally available if you need something to make your stay more comfortable, or if you need local beta. If you'd like to disappear and unplug while visiting, no worries. Your privacy will be honored and respected. Chill in peace. If you feel like talking more about what the area has to offer, or hanging out on the deck for a beer, that works too. Either way, come and go as you please. And set the tempo for as little or as much communication as you like. The NeighborhoodWhile staying here, you have awesome access to hiking a handful of the Adirondack High Peaks. We are minutes from trail heads such as Blueberry and Porter, The Dixes, Giant and Rocky Peak Ridge, and the Johns Brook Valley. There is a Shuttle that leaves from The Blueberry Trailhead parking lot next to Marcy Airfield for trips up to the Garden. You have to pay $15 but its totally worth it after a long days hike. If you are a Nordic ski addict or just enjoy getting out in the fresh air on skinny skis, Mt Van Ho is 12 minutes away. The trail system is extensive and some trails are so challenging that the Russians complained about their difficulty in the 1980 Olympics (referred to as the Russian Complaint). Whiteface - another Olympic Venue. You can get there in about 12 minutes and be on the Gondola in 15 if you find the right parking place! Whiteface has the most vertical in the East, and exceptional out of bound Slide skiing. Buy your tickets in advance, online, and save some money. How about cycling? You can take off right out of the driveway and ride for a 100 miles on the Lake Placid Ironman Course, or explore some bad ass roads with new pavement and zero traffic. I can help map out routes for you. If you'd like to take a relaxing walk along a NYS designated, Wild and Scenic River, walk down the driveway and you are on your way. Daily passes are available for Keene Fitness, and BenchMark Yoga Studio. Just ask me about them in advance and I'll have the passes ready for you. The list goes on of things to do and places to go. I love to explore, and I've packed a lot of it in the 2 decades I've been here. And I love turning people on to our playground. So if you had something in mind for an epic adventure, just ask and I'm sure we can cook up a day that you'll remember for awhile. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation in these parts. Other Things to NoteFuel: Gas prices in Keene at our lovely Stewarts are insane. It's best to purchase gas in Elizabethtown, Ausable Forks or Lake Placid if possible. When you are departing and traveling South (NY, Boston), the next available gas station once you are on the Northway is Exit 28 (Schroon Lake). If you are traveling North, Exit 31 has gas but it's extremely expensive. If you can hold out to Plattsburgh, you'll save yourself some money. Local groceries: There really aren't any! The closest grocery is in Elizabethtown (Tops) or Lake Placid (Price Chopper or Hannafords). I would recommend bringing your basic supplies with you from home, if possible, to avoid the hassle of hunting and gathering while you're here. There is also the Valley Grocery and Rivermead Farm Stand in Keene Valley. In Keene, Cedar Run Bakery sells pre-made, homemade, frozen dinners and soups. They also carry the best gluten free and vegan baked goods offered by Mountain Tomboy. If you haven't tried this stuff, you must!! Other spots: ADK Cafe serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Dartbrook Rustic Goods and Big Crow Trading are cool places to shop for gifts and house furnishings. In Keene Valley, visit the Noonmark Diner for breakfast, and the Ausable Inn for cocktails and dinner. The Birch Store is a personal favorite for women's and men's clothing. The driveway in the winter: Check in with me about snow / freezing rain conditions before your arrival. The driveway can sometimes be tricky during storms or after heavy snow accumulation.

Base Rate, $225/night for up to 6 guests Extra Guests, $25/person/night No cleaning fee for 3 or more night bookings ($75 for 2 night bookings) Calling all hikers, rock and ice climbers, skiers, snowshoers, ice skaters, bikers, fishermen and river enthusiasts! Dancing fern lodge, a secluded 3 or 4 bedroom lodge, sits on 25 magical acres of woods and stream beds, nestled between the east branch of the Ausable river and the oak ridge section of the hurricane mountain primitive area. Towering white pines and hemlocks, wildflower meadows, lush fern glades, trickling stream beds, and glacial moraines and erratic compliment views of the Adirondack mountain's highest peaks. Dancing fern lodge accommodates small groups or families comfortably. The bedrooms and bathroom are upstairs, all with lovely window views, comfortable mattresses, plenty of bedding and cozy flannel sheets in the winter time. The spacious main bedroom, which we call 'the blue room' has a king sized bed. A second large bedroom has a queen sized bed (Swedish foam mattress with adjustable firmness on each side). An adjacent bedroom has a daybed which opens up into two comfy twin beds. The lodge offers cable TV, wireless internet access, and a hassle-free propane 'wood' stove, where you can cuddle up and stare in to the flames, exhausted by the day's adventures. Seasonal chills are kept out with heat monitors, and your hosts can light up the wood stove in the basement if temperatures drop severely. The standard for cleanliness is set high. Guests regularly comment on the immaculate and tidy feeling in the house. The walls of dancing fern lodge are extremely fortunate to be graced with beautiful Adirondack wildlife and landscape photographs taken by Caroline fine, a well known photographer in the area. The artwork she has displayed at the lodge (including cards), are for sale. Trails for cross-country skiers, snowshoers and hikers abound. Guests can explore looping trails on the lodge's property or bush whack their way up to the peak of oak ridge for a breath taking view. The Jack Rabbit Trail, Mt.. Van Hoevenberg Cross Country Ski Center and Cascade Cross Country Ski Center can be reached within moments. Whiteface Mountain Ski Center (downhill skiing) is no more than a 15 minute drive from the lodge. Upon request, guests are welcome to borrow snowshoes (adult and child sizes), as well as snow sleds. There are some fun sledding hills on the property and around Keene. The yard is expansive and perfect for playing games, stargazing, or roasting marshmallows around a campfire (wood provided at the lodge for a small fee). A short hike north will take you to your hosts farmstead, where they keep a chickens, horses and a large garden spring thru late fall. Guests are always welcome to visit the farm, help out with animal chores and might enjoy picking a basket full of organically grown veggies, then hike 'home' through the woods like little red riding hood to prepare an extra special dinner at the lodge. We've seen red fox here, but never a wolf! Fishermen can access the river right at the bottom of the driveway, and for those who like to swim in rivers and lakes, Joe and Kaycie can direct you to some excellent swimming holes and beaches. We have tubes for borrowing upon request if you would like to luxuriate in the sun on a hot afternoon and float down river. Come with your canoe or kayaks and we can recommend some wonderful places to put in. While the lodge is tucked back in the woods on a hill not visible from the road, triathletes should know that the biking portion of the Ironman goes right by the lodge's driveway! Dancing fern lodge is located just under 1 mile from the center of Keene, making it ideal for guests who would like to go for a peaceful morning or evening walk along the river, ending up in town for breakfast or dinner at the ADK cafe or to grab a muffin and cup of coffee at Cedar Run (or a bottle of wine for later). While in town, you might want to peruse Dartbrook Rustic Goods store, peak in the Adirondack Attic (a high end thrift store), pick up milk or have an ice cream cone at Stewarts (convenience store and gas station), or a pint of maple syrup at Black Rooster Maple. Visit our historic little Keene library, schedule a massage, or surround yourself with the colorful and fragrant plants at East Branch Organics nursery (wine and spirits available there as well). For more information, please contact us with questions. While we've been renting Dancing Fern Lodge through local realtors, we've just joined VRBO and are tweaking up our description of the lodge, as well as updated photos since we've changed some furniture and made several improvements.

Random Scoots is located in Keene, NY, in the heart of the Adirondack High Peaks region. We have offered guided hikes in the region since 2004. In 2008 we introduced our first cabin - Random Scoots Cabin (VRBO listing #181716). We are now proud to offer our newest cabin - Mercy Cabin. So whether you are looking for convenient access to the multitude of activities and attractions available in the region or simply want a quiet place to relax and get away from it all, Random Scoots and Mercy Cabins will serve your needs. Mercy Cabin: Mercy Cabin is 1280 square feet, including the main room (kitchen, dining nook, and living room), 3 large bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. A loft provides extra sleeping space for older children. And no need to clutter the living space with all your gear. Between the large mudroom inside the cabin and the large side porch you'll find plenty of room for gear storage and drying. All interior walls and cathedral ceilings are finished in 12' wide pine boards. Plenty of large windows and sliding doors. The result is a spacious, warm, bright, and charming interior atmosphere very much in keeping with the wooded setting. Our guests refer to Mercy as a 'luxury cabin', combining the charm of a cabin and the luxuries of home. The Property: Our location, 1/2 mile off Rte 73 on a private road, is accessible yet remarkably quiet. Situated on a wooded property, the grounds around the cabins transition from a well kept lawn to open woods with maintained native ground cover to a managed woodlot, resulting in an open and inviting atmosphere. The location features spectacular views across the valley to Hurricane Mountain and surrounding peaks, with glimpses of Giant and Dix Mountains. Sound effects are provided by the gentle murmur of the Ausable River East Branch in the valley below. The Region: The centerpiece of the region is the Adirondack High Peaks, where hundreds of miles of foot trails provide access to the rugged beauty of the mountain interior. Outdoor activities in the region include hiking, snowshoeing, back-country and cross-country skiing, mountaineering, rock and ice climbing, trail running, wildlife viewing, flat water and whitewater paddling, hunting, fishing... the list goes on and on, limited only by your imagination. For those with less ambitious goals, or on rest days, Lake Placid and the surrounding region offer a multitude of relaxing and interesting attractions and activities. A sampling - - Lake Placid: Home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympic Games - Tupper Lake: The Wild Center (Regional Natural History Museum) - Blue Mountain Lake: Adirondack Museum (Regional Human/Cultural History Museum) - Whiteface Mountain: The Olympic mountain is a short 15 mile drive. Our Philosophy: It is no wonder that generations of outdoor enthusiasts have been drawn to the rugged beauty of the Adirondack Region. Visionary legislation that established the Adirondack Park in 1892 initiated a tradition of conservation aimed at ensuring that this critical natural resource be preserved. It is incumbent on today's users of the resource to carry on that tradition. We at Random Scoots believe that by responsibly enjoying our public lands today we can ensure that the same opportunities will be available for future generations. We further believe that development of the intimate and respectful relationship with nature that is so important to our future begins in childhood, and we strive to create a family friendly atmosphere, a comfortable and enjoyable retreat where parents can nurture this relationship in their children. In keeping with that goal our rate structure is designed to encourage families. Keywords: cabin, wooded, secluded, private, also see Random Scoots Cabin (VRBO listing 181716)
