The SpaceThis 250+-year-old gem has been fourteen years in the remaking. We saved every detail we could while still making it a comfortable, beautiful retreat with all the modern conveniences. It sits on 5.5 acres of woods, lawns, pond, and gardens. Perfect for business meetings, small events, retreats, reunions, get-away weekends with friends and families. Dining and Cooking: Cook together in the large well-stocked kitchen. Everyone loves our eat-in kitchen with wood-burning stove, two dishwashers, three sinks, expansive soapstone counter tops, large six-burner stove, and a sofa for relaxing. Propane grill just outside the kitchen door. Eat together by candlelight at the large table in the mural-painted dining room (seats a cozy 16) -- or al fresco on the patio overlooking the pond. Produce (in season): Free-range in the vegetable/herb garden three steps from the kitchen door. Or walk down the street to the organic farm for produce and some groceries (Thurs-Sat. in season). Parking: Parking on the grass compresses the soil -- in turn, damaging both tree roots and grass. Please keep all vehicles on the pavement and limit the number of parking spaces needed. We can easily accommodate five cars. There is room for a few more if some are blocked. Please do not park on the road. Outdoors: Five and a half acres, including large lawns (front and back), tether ball, baseball diamond (of sorts), woods, pond, firepit and a collection of outdoor games. Walk, run, bike, or cross-country ski on the twenty-four mile Wallkill Valley Rail Trail just a short walk through our woods. A comfortably furnished screened in porch is perfect for warm evenings. In the winter, it houses fuel for the wood stove. The large, patio with gas grill, fire pit, large table (seats eight), and lounge furniture overlook the pond for meals or relaxing. On a clear night, we love taking a blanket out to the lounge chairs and watching the stars. Bedrooms: I have listed this as six, but technically it is five bedrooms with a very comfortable queen Murphy bed in the Library. Bedrooms Downstairs 1-2*: -QUEEN in DOWNSTAIRS MASTER: wide floorboards, exposed beams, en suite bath, candlelit two-person, Jacuzzi-style tub, it is also a bubble factory for kids. -QUEEN: the second downstairs bedroom* is a comfortable Murphy bed in the Library (shares a bathroom) Bedrooms Upstairs (4) -DOUBLE bed (shares bathroom) -TWO SINGLE beds (shares bathroom) -QUEEN bed (shares bathroom) -QUEEN in UPSTAIRS MASTER: a beautiful view of the pond, private sitting room, and en suite bath Bathrooms: One full bath and one half-bath downstairs. Two full baths upstairs (showers only). Sleeps: The house comfortably sleeps 12. Events: We do small events. The maximum number of guests for any event: 30. No DJ or band. Amplified music must be at a reasonable level. Music and loud voices must end at 10:30. Limited parking. We love and respect our neighbors; we hope you will too. Yard Activities: The rope swing, tetherball, basketball rim, paddle boat, and canoe are fun for young and old alike. Kids (and adults) love building forts in the woods or playing baseball or tag in the front yard. Massive snow structures and creations can be built under the right conditions. Wildlife: Abundant wildlife passes through the yard. Check-in and Check-out: We want your stay to be perfect -- that includes arrival and departure times that best meet your needs. Our standard times: 5 PM check-in and 11 AM check-out. If we don't have other guests scheduled the same day we will do our best to accommodate your wishes. Please let us know your preferred schedule in advance. We will greet our guests on arrival and show them around the house. It is old -- it can be quirky. The Area: One-and-a-half hours north from NYC, New Paltz is a progressive and inclusive village surrounded by great natural beauty, culture, and history. Here At Thornwood: - Games, puzzles, “touch-me” shelf” for kids, and sports equipment available - Pond: please watch young children -- swim at your own risk. Parents of small children should also be aware of the small fish-pond by the barn. - Star constellations on the ceilings of two of the rooms -- invisible during the day, subtle at night. Ask for black light to intensify. - The edge of our property is a well-used animal trail. We see deer, wild turkeys, foxes, groundhogs, opossums, and muskrats. - Birders will enjoy the following: rose-breasted grosbeaks, pileated woodpeckers, yellow-shafted flickers, Baltimore orioles, goldfinches, purple finches, bluebirds, cardinals, house finches, house wrens, chickadees, red-bellied woodpeckers, downy and hairy woodpeckers, kingfishers, mallard ducks, wood ducks, hooded mergansers, red-winged blackbirds and more. Guest AccessPlease note: I have listed check-in and check-out times; however, if I have no one coming or leaving the same day as you, arrival and departure are completely flexible. Please ask. You'll feel tucked away and far from the madding crowd in your alpine hideaway, yet welcome the short drive to town (New Paltz (2.2 mi.) and High Falls (8.0)) for a quick run to Rock and Snow for gear or a bite of authentic Japanese at Hokkaido. Owl Cottage's convenient location makes it a perfect home base for taking in all the Hudson Valley has to offer. The area's most important sites are all within a short drive: hike the Rail Trail, swim and picnic on the lake at Minnewaska State Park or hire a guide and rock climb the Gunks. Mohonk and New Paltz are also big with cyclists, kayakers and hikers. Complimentary passes for two to the historic Mohonk Preserve come with the house and provide you access to their magnificent trails. Venture a little further and enjoy Woodstock, take in the Zen Mountain Monastery, see a concert in Esopus or venture across the river to Bard, Olana or the Ballet. Of course, antiquing and restaurants are abundant as are local produce and livestock. Owl Cottage is tastefully decorated in a contemporary, rustic style. This bungalow style house has two bedrooms, one full bath, an open and inviting kitchen/living room and dining space made especially cozy with its centrally located wood stove and vaulted ceilings. Cook up a great meal with the locally grown organic produce or meats you procured at the Farmers Market in town or melt away the afternoon in the adjoining sunroom with lovely french doors to the deck and garden. They are indoor/outdoor and spend much of their time outside. They have their own portals to enter and exit and the main part of the home (there's no litter box!) however, they cannot access this apartment without someone opening the door for them. In general, they spend a very minimal amount of time in this space and folks with medium to mild cat allergies have stayed here with no problems! There's a two-night minimum, however sometimes a one-night stay can be accommodated; feel free to inquire.

The SpaceSleeps 8: Two full baths, three bedrooms, each with queen beds. Plus a full size couch-bed in the parlor-dining room, which has its own door for privacy. From the house, it's an easy and pleasurable one mile stroll to downtown New Paltz. If you’re traveling from NYC without a car, you can take the Adirondack Trailways bus to New Paltz from the Port Authority Terminal. Once in New Paltz you can either walk (about 1 mile) or take taxi ($5) to the house. The Water Street Market and the rest of New Paltz cafes, shops, and organic vegetable farms are a 20-30 minute walk and even faster bike ride from this spacious and peaceful home on a most desirable country road frequented by walkers, joggers, and cyclists. By car, you will be 5-15 minutes from the Mohonk Preserve, Mohonk Mountain House, and Minnewaska State Park. But leave the car behind as you bicycle (five bikes available for your use) the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail north to the quaint village of Rosendale, south to the bucolic village of Gardiner, or head west to the Mohonk Preserve bicycle and walking paths. Return home to rest on the deck or soak in hot tub with inspirational wooded mountain views and perpetually singing wild birds. This is a perfect place to unwind, relax and use as a base for all your Hudson Valley adventures! Minimum stay - two nights; holiday weekends - three nights. Please inquire. Also available is a separate studio apartment with private entrance (see my other listings.) The studio might be occupied by your hosts (me and Reagan :), however it will not be rented to a separate party during your stay. Please note there are two cats living on the property which spend most of their time outdoors, however if you have a serious cat allergy you may wish to consider another listing as they do spend some of their time in the house, more so in the winter :) We are local kombucha crafters, serving our organic brew around the Hudson Valley. We sometimes have to use the brew kitchen for a bit during the weekend-- it's in the garage so we don't need access to the house itself and would not at all be a disturbance to you if/when we are there. Every attempt is made to get all our work done before the weekend, but sometimes things come up ;) Thank you for looking and hope to see you soon! Ami & Reagan Guest Access- Entire house (minus a separate studio on lower level) - 5 bicycles - Hot Tub - Mohonk Preserve passes (value of $12/person/day) - WiFi - Cable TV - Audiophile stereo system - Kitchen stocked with essentials - Blankets, towels, linens, soap, shampoo plus extra linens if needed Interaction with GuestsIf possible, will greet you at arrival and spend a few short minutes sharing info to help make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Other Things to NoteAs some of the photos indicate, and as another section in this listing mentions, there are two kitties on the premises. They are indoor/outdoor and spend much of their time outside. They have their own portals to enter and exit and the home (there's no litter box!) The SpaceWeekend home temporarily available only to New Jersey or New York displaced family of Sandy. I have a weekend home on the border of New Paltz, New York located 90 miles north of NYC. I would like to help a couple (or single parent) preferably with no more than three children by providing temporary housing for up to two months until you are able to move back to your home in New Jersey or New York. All I can do is to provide temporary living arrangements until things get back to normal which might take some time but at least you'll be safe and warm and most importantly, sheltered. You would need to be non-smokers, no drug use and, sorry, but no pets. You would need to have your own car but if you don't have a car, I could help you make arrangements to get to the house via bus (which runs from NYC Port Authority several times a day) and then a $10 taxi ride to the house. Although the house is 90 miles north from NYC many people commute daily into the city to work. You will need to pay for your own groceries and all personal items (Stop-n-Shop in town) and I'm sorry but I cannot accommodate any person with disabilities due to access to the house. This is just temporary housing if in any way I can help a family in need for a couple of months. I would need to have some proof or documentation to show that you are from the area of devastation (state ID or driver's license would be fine) and some kind of referral that you and your family are displaced. I keep hearing families are in shelters and there are 40k plus homeless at the moment. So I truly want to help a family by opening my weekend home to them. If we come to an agreement and I'm comfortable with you (and vice versa), then I'm happy to show proof of my home, and professional documentation to make you feel at ease and safe and to know where you will be heading to stay. Please send me your request with information on your family. I'm located in Manhattan during the week but am up in New Paltz on the weekends. This is my second home in New Paltz and would be empty and available for you.

Visitors come to New Paltz to soak up the region's rich history, hike, bike, climb, skydive or just relax in one of the many bars and restaurants. The 1807 Stone House was built by our ancestors for tenant farmers and now, after an extensive restoration, provides a very comfortable vacation house full of historic character. The house forms part of a 12-acre property of woods and streams that has been in our family for 10 generations and is also the site of our 1826 Federal style home that is listed on the National Historic Register. The Stone House is very peaceful and private - see the guest reviews for endorsement! A woodland path provides direct access from the property to a 23-mile rail trail, which is an easy hike or bike into town. We have a selection of bikes that you are welcome to borrow. In the late 19th century, the Wallkill Valley Railroad ferried fresh produce and vegetables from the farmlands of Ulster County to the streets of New York City. The railroad may have gone, but the area is still abundant with apple orchards, small independent farms and wineries. There is an organic farm just a 3-minute walk from the property where one can buy fresh vegetables, artisan breads and local cheese. Accommodation is on three levels. At the top are 2 bedrooms, one with a Queen bed and the other with 2 twin beds. The emphasis is on comfort, with ironed linens and plenty of pillows and throws. There is one full bathroom with claw foot tub and rain shower and limitless hot water. There are two living rooms on the second floor; one has white washed stonewalls, with a large gas fired stove set in the original open fireplace. There is a large sofa and armchair, TV for Netflix and DVD with movie selection Please note that there is NO cable TV, but there is fast Wi-Fi connection throughout the house. The other room is full of light and looks out over shrubs, trees and a stream. Stairs lead down to a full kitchen, with wide board maple floor and large open fireplace with propane stove. The kitchen is outfitted with stone countertops, European eye level oven and the basic necessities including a variety of quality cookware, coffee maker and blender. A range of spices, olive oil, coffee and selected teas are provided. The table can seat six and there is also an armchair and window seat. We provide complimentary breakfast items for your first morning, including OJ and muffins. A Dutch door leads out on to a private terrace with picnic table and propane grill. This is a wonderful place to watch the abundant bird life. There is a laundry room with washer and dryer. The house has a modern zoned heating system that makes for cozy winter visits. In the summer there are AC units in the kitchen, living room and both bedrooms. The house is foam insulated. The house sleeps 4. Please discuss with us first if you plan to be more than 4. Although we have a 2 x night minimum stay, we will happily consider a last minute booking for a one night stay on a week day. *Please note that on holiday weekends there is a 3 x night minimum stay We have a strict No smoking and No Pets policy. **We will always try to be flexible on our check in and check out times if we can, so please ask! **Minimum 3 x night stay on holiday weekends** Guest AccessGuests have sole use of the house and access to all the outside areas. We are just three miles from downtown New Paltz where you can find access to the historic Rail Trail as well as some amazing restaurants and shopping. An ideal spot with some of the best hiking and climbing in the country! Getting AroundTrailways Buses run frequently every day between NYC's Port Authority and downtown New Paltz. Transportation between the farm and downtown New Paltz can be arranged with cooperative members -- we'll be happy to give you a lift whenever one of us is available! Other Things to NoteThis is an old farm house -- amenities are not all modern. We do not have TV or cable, but we like it that way. The bathrooms are just the essentials! If you stay here be prepared to unplug from the distractions! We do have Wi-Fi and cell phone service seems to work just fine for all the major providers. The Tweefontein farmhouse is over 200 years old! Many of the fixtures, doorknobs, window panes, and floor boards are original. We love the history that the house tells, and wouldn't have it any other way. However please make sure you understand this before you book! This is an old house! If you have never experienced staying in an old farmhouse make sure you understand that it is an experience in itself! Heating: The house is well heated, and each room has it's own space heater so that the temperature can further be controlled to your liking. Water: Like many of the houses and farms in the area, the Tweefontein house has well water that has sulpher in it. The water runs through a high tech UV filtration system and is very clean but it does has a distinct smell if you are not used to it. We always provide a cooler of mountain spring water for you. Last but not least, this is homestead and herb farm, first and foremost. The members living here are dedicated to making herbal remedies, growing food and vegetables, and taking time to reconnect with ancient roots and living in an altogether different and empowered way. We recognize a problem with our food system, with the way that big agriculture operates and feel that the purity of food an medicine will be protected only by the small farms and individuals who will not adopt the corrupt and dangerous systems that are mainstream in food production today. And we are a passionate group of individuals! This means that if you chose to stay at the farm you may see us working, making medicine, cleaning roots, preparing remedies etc... this is a small but fully functioning farm!
