The SpaceThis space is a fully self-sufficient, the bungalow sits in a park-like setting. For us, the most important thing about having a place to spend the night - is the bed. For this reason we didn't skimp, great (all natural latex) mattresses, great pillows & bedding too. It is a large open studio with a sleeping alcove, but the built-in sofa also converts into two additional comfortable twin beds (or one king). It is well appointed for either working or relaxing, and it's very private and quiet.
The space is equipped with WIFI and a computer for work or pleasure. The TV has basic cable but also Chrome Cast so bring your Netflix account and relax.
The kitchen is wonderful; whether you're just fixing a quick breakfast or making a gourmet meal. Beware that the refrigerators are very small so as not to burden the space with unnecessary appliance intrusion, but there is a small dishwasher, a gas stove top, oven and microwave, toaster, blender, coffee maker and even a small gas BBQ out on the deck. It's all very elegant yet work friendly. Guest AccessThis is a large property and wandering is encouraged. The cottage itself is private, including a small privately enclosed deck to dine alfresco or take an outdoor shower. Requests for entertaining your own guests from 2 to 20 can be a wonderful add-on, but this is restrictive and only by special arrangements and additional cost. Interaction with GuestsWe do live on the property (in a separate dwelling) and are therefore usually available to help guests with most needs. Whether it's recommending a restaurant or other things to do, or even helping put together some food items in your fridge; feel free to ask, we try to accommodate when we're available. The NeighborhoodOyster Bay - Long Island - NY is a very old town (settled in the 1600's). It was in the heart of the Gold Coast era of summer mansions during the turn of the century, thus offers some wonderful places to visit. It's the home town of President Teddy Roosevelt, and his home (Sagamore Hill - a National Park) is a must see. We are 1-mile from the water (Oyster Bay & Long Island Sound) so we recommend you rent a kayak for a lazy day on the calm water of Oyster Bay. Getting AroundWe are located in a rather rural spot, so a car is a must, but if you're going into New York City, we recommend that you take the train (The Long Island Rail Road a/k/a the LIRR), it's a 50-minute ride to mid-town Manhattan. And while you need a car for local travel, you can easily get here from JFK by using the JFK Air Train, which connects to the LIRR and arrives 1-mile from our place. Other Things to NoteThis is a working horse farm and for this reason, we prefer not to host kids between 3 and 12, it's a bit dangerous for kids that age who are adventurous and don't understand the dangers of animals, no matter how domesticated. PLEASE NOTE: We do have a few dogs that run free on the property, but they are very friendly. In short, we "discourage" bringing kids, but don't necessarily restrict them - it requires a discussion.
