Our 1890s farmhouse is located on the south side Lyon Mountain (one of 100 highest Adirondack peaks). Surrounded on three sides by forests and hills, your privacy is assured. Pull into the driveway, park your car, unload your gear, and prepare to enjoy the wilderness.
Additional amenities include a field stone patio with a table and seating for 5, a deck in front of the house and your choice of 2 charcoal BBQ's, for your use.
Our neighborhood is rural and somewhat agricultural, with some neighbors into small-scale farming. Wildlife in our area include: deer, turkey, fox, rabbits, squirrels and the occasional bear or moose.
Things you might want to bring: bikes, kayaks, fishing poles, canoe, walking/hiking boots, cross country skis, backpacks, camping equipment, etc.
Just out our door is the old D&H railroad bed which is popular with hikers, mountain bikers, 4-wheelers and snowmobilers. A 5 minute drive away is The New Land Trust, free and open to the public, with 230 acres of trail for walking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. Guest AccessEntry to the home is shared with the owners and the stairway leading to the suite is off the dining room. When you arrive we will give you a key to the house so that you will have access, even if we're are not home. There is no smoking in the home. Interaction with GuestsWe live in the home and will be available when you arrive to show you around and throughout your stay to answer any questions you might have. The NeighborhoodIt is 5 miles downhill to State Route 3 where you will find two gas stations, a convenience store, a post office, a tavern and a couple of restaurants (mostly breakfast fare); also a golf driving range at Baker's Acres Campground, tennis and basketball courts at the school, and the town pool and boat launch (great for kayaks or canoes). Here you will also find the Saranac River and its exceptional fly fishing.
5 miles north is Chazy Lake, one of the most pristine lakes of the Adirondacks, with a public beach, picnic area, and two boat launches. A 10-minute drive to Dannemora offers a pharmacy, deli, Dunkin Donuts, liquor store, a pizza shop, Dollar General and 2 gas stations.
A 10-20 minute drive are Lyon Mountain and , Silver Lake Mountain trail heads, Silver Lake Bog, Barnes Pond, and Gadway Barrens.
The Plattsburgh/Lake Champlain Region is a 30-minute drive
Montreal (QC) and Burlington (VT) are 90-minute drives. If taking the Grand Isle Ferry to VT your time to Burlington is cut by about 40 minutes!
There are 2 major ski centers within an hour drive of our home; Whiteface Mountain Ski Center in Wilmington, NY and Titus Mountain Ski Center in Malone, NY. Additionally, there are several smaller slopes and, for those who enjoy x-country skiing, or snowmobiling, you can access miles of groomed trails right out our back door. If you love winter, you're gonna LOVE being here! Other Things to NoteCell phone service is not good here. The only provider offering "G" service is ATT (4GLTE) You can usually receive a Verizon signal outside of the home. We do have an available landline.
Our Internet service is provided via satellite and while it's good it does not compare with other high speed options. Checking email and surfing shouldn't be a problem but watching YouTube video, Netflix, or other video service isn't possible.
