The SpaceThe space is truly special because it's so quiet, peaceful and filled with wildlife, yet so close to the village and Omega. Choose a bedroom with beautiful antiques, or the finished basement with tons of private room. There are 2 quaint and comfortable bedrooms available, plus the living space in the finished basement. I live in the house, so please understand this is a rental of a lovely, quaint bedroom in the house, and your own large bathroom. Please feel free to use the kitchen, den, the front porch, back patio, and all other common areas! My very personable, happy-go-lucky, 5 year old golden retriever will make you feel right at home. Two friendly kitties will snuggle too, but only on their terms (of course!). Omega is only 3 miles away, and the village is only 1.5 miles. Or, try Poet's Walk with incredible Hudson views, Burger Hill Park which is only a walk away. Access the whole house and make yourself at home: large living room, den with fireplace, eat-in-kitchen, private bathroom, wi-fi, satellite TV... During the week we probably won't see each other much: I commute into NYC every day, which is a looong day away. But on the weekends, it's pure peace and relaxation. I've been here for 15 years, and will let you know the best restaurants, best parks, most fun things to do. It's so peaceful and private -- beautiful gardens and stone steps, outside sitting areas, front porch and back patio (with built-in pool for summer!). Yet an easy drive or walk to everything Rhinebeck has to offer. It's an ideal place to stay for Omega visitors too, so close! The SpaceIt is a charming updated older house in one of the best towns in America, lived in by a homeowner who has good taste in furnishings and art, and right outside the door are two porches and a backyard terrace, veggie garden, croquet set. In town--steps away--are great restaurants, independent movie theater and bookstore, wine store, shops, and proximity to two college campuses with museums and theaters, one hour from the Berkshires, 30 minutes to Hyde Park to see Roosevelt's Presidential library and home, 15 minutes to Omega Institute, near ski slops for winter, 30 minutes or so also to the other CIA for food and tours, and train stations to Boston and New York. This is great living with farms all around. The town also has a super public library, tennis courts, outdoor pool, inexpensive gym with daily memberships permitted, pilates and yoga studios. Once you come you won't want to leave! Guest AccessIn my home, there are wonderful indoor spaces that are updated and with TVs and wi-fi, music systems, two porches, a serious vegetable garden for your plucking and please water, bicycles and trails, and a town within a fast walk away. I also have red grape vines. And the town has an historic post office nearby, two great wine stores, home furnishings shops galore with tasteful stuff, and a well equipped gym that's a quick drive or bike ride away that only charges $25 a month! What a deal. I won't rent for only one night since too much of a hassle to be ready, and get away but two nights is ok, prefer 2 or 3, however. But I can make exceptions at times. I will also consider lower prices from December through February due to the colder weather but it's gorgeous here!' Interaction with GuestsI am there to meet guests and be there at the end to send them off as long as the timing works; I try to be flexible about entry and exit times. I share my house with cookbooks, piano, Wi-fi, etc. I provide a list of restaurants with my own reviews, as well as a list of important area stores for food shopping, clothing, candy, etc. I want you to love my home and village as much as I do, as well as my family and friends. The NeighborhoodEverything, from the farms all around to the town's history from the 17th century, the best shops including a gift and kitchen store, independent movie and book stores, 33 or more restaurants with many chefs trained by the CIA school nearby, yoga and pilates studios galore, a painting class, two nearby colleges and the most wonderful shopkeepers and homeowners who are friendly, smart and unpretentious. Getting AroundYES, there is public transportation--buses to the city, trains to the city and Boston, plus bicycle trails and I have two bikes to use. And wineries nearby. And the house is about 10-15 minutes by car to Omega for those who want to take classes. And about 15 minutes to FDR's home and restored library in Hyde Park, worth a visit! Other Things to NoteTwo porches, back one has barbecue with gas; vegetable garden; will be a swing set some time; walking distance to town's tennis courts and pool, fabulous library within walking distance, restaurants, shops, movie and bookstore, and super food stores including a smaller version of Whole Foods that is so much cheaper across the river in Kingston. Absolutely no smoking or pets under any condition. And I really prefer older children, a baby or one little one is fine but the house has antiques and collectibles. Let's talk about kids if you want to bring them.

A perfect home away from home in the beautiful Hudson Valley “Gracious, clean, well appointed home with a cozy vibe. Living quarters all on one floor, no stairs to worry about. Great location close to town and neighboring amenities. Explore the Hudson Valley in comfort from this charming country sanctuary in the woods.” Maria Wander, Riverdale, NY The Rhinebeck Retreat is very proud to have hosted the Rhinebeck Writer’s Retreat during July and August this summer. This retreat was for musical theatre composers, lyricists and bookwriters. These award-winning writers have had readings, showcases, or full productions of their musicals done in professional regional theatres across the country. We appreciate that they choose our space for their creative endeavors and wish them well and much success. We welcome yoga, meditation and other small groups for weekend and weeklong retreats. Our space is also available for weddings and other special occasions. Families and extended family gatherings are always welcome. Town & Country Begin with a leisurely, yet invigorating 2 hour drive (from Brooklyn, less time from Manhattan) up the picturesque Taconic Parkway winding through the Hudson River Valley. Or if you prefer to kick back, you can take Amtrak from Penn Station to the Rhinecliff Station. This most scenic train journey takes you along the Hudson River all the way from New York City. From there you need to either rent a car or take a cab to our house. This modern home is located on a scenic country road, ten minutes from the village of Rhinebeck. A popular weekend destination, Rhinebeck is well known as the home of Omega Institute (eomega.org / 5 minute drive) as well as for its fine dining establishments (Gigi Trattoria, Arielle, Starr Place, Terrapin, Zen Dog, China Rose, etc), fine boutiques (Haldora, No Sugar, Winter Sun & Summer Moon, Cesare & Lili, etc), and specialty shops (Paper Trail, Face of Stockholm, Hammertown, Oblong Books & Music, etc.). You can see a first-run independent film at the popular art house cinema Upstate Films. Every weekend you can find the best produce, baked goods, prepared foods that the Hudson Valley has to offer at the Rhinebeck Farmers Market. There is also an excellent health food store in town (Rhinebeck Health Foods/the Garden Street Cafe) that has a great little cafe (try the Avocado Supreme). Rhinebeck is also home to the Dutchess County Fairgrounds which hosts the famous Dutchess County Fair, the annual Sheep and Wool Fest, Rhinebeck Antiques Fair and many more events throughout the year. Day trips to Woodstock and the Catskills, the Berkshires, Dia Beacon, Storm King, Olana, the FDR library and Vanderbilt Mansion are easy to make. Accomodations Our contemporary house is a perfect home away from home. Easily accommodating four to six people, the open floor plan is cozy and inviting. Families are welcome (no pets please). We have three bedrooms and two full baths, a modern chefs kitchen (and outdoor gas grill), a screened-in back porch with picnic table, and a fireplace where you can warm your bones after a long day. You are welcome to select a movie from our large, eclectic dvd library (includes many childrens videos). We have wifi so you can keep in touch with the outside world if you want to (don’t forget to bring your laptop). Our well-stocked bookcase includes a section dedicated to the historic Hudson Valley. Two adult bikes and a child’s bike are also available for your use. For your convenience, we have an easily accessible washer and dryer. Nature and Nurture If you simply want to get away from it all and enjoy nature, the valley offers excellent birdwatching, hiking, apple picking, biking, and horseback riding minutes from our front door. You can also kick back on our private landscaped three acre property and read a good book in a hammock, or play a rousing game of Bocce on our full size court. The kids will love to bounce on the trampoline (with supervision please). Adults can find yoga and pilates studios in the village. In the winter months, exceptional sledding may be had on the rolling hills at Mills Mansion and nearby Burger Hill Park (affectionately referred to as “Rocket Run” by our boys). Skiing is also nearby, the catkills and berkshire ski venues are about 45 minutes away. The Night Sky Whatever the season, I am in awe of our night sky. When the sun settles down beyond the Catskills and dusk gives way to dark, the scene is set for the grand celestial dance of the moon and stars in the sky above. Though we have many tall trees on our property, the view is immense and stunning. Feel free to bring your telescopes or binoculars. A Secret Garden We also offer a wonderful environment to get in touch with your inner gardener. Whether you want to mulch, weed, rake, water or all of the above, you are welcome to make use of our many flower beds. We will provide the knee pads, trowels, etc. Let us know what you want to do, and we will help. All the necessary ingredients for a relaxing weekend, weeklong or monthly retreat.

Other Things to NoteI provide a little continental breakfast (all available in the refrigerator for your use) at no charge to my renters - usually consisting of Orange Juice, fresh fruit, Greek yogurt, coffee, espresso and/or tea, coffee, crumb cake, fresh bagels with butter and jam and whatever else I might have to offer you from my fridge ! The SpaceWe have a pleasantly private rural setting convenient to the Taconic State Parkway and route nine, as well as train facilities in Rhinecliff and Poughkeepsie. Omega Institute, a holistic campus, is within walking distance. The village of Rhinebeck is within 6 miles and has an abundance of quality eating establishments and nightlife facilities. We are surrounded by many horseback riding facilities and are also convenient to the wine trail. Bard College, within 7 miles, offers theater and music venues. The Bardavon in Poughkeepsie too has excellent music as does the Falcon in Marlboro, New York. Historic Hyde Park is but 15 minutes away. The Rhinebeck aerodrome seems to be known by many throughout the world and in the summer Rhinebeck hosts the Dutchess County Fair, a reasonably well-known agricultural oriented activity. Throughout the year at the fairgrounds are craft fairs, wine pairings, car shows and innumerable other events. The room itself, though not spacious is more than adequate for one: or two individuals who enjoy each others company and are willing to share a bed. Pets and children would not be desirable. Guest AccessLinens and parking are included. Toiletries are available on a limited basis if you have forgotten something. Television doesn't exist. But wifi appears to have been established in both the bedroom and the gazebo (though AT&T users appear to have a bit of difficulty). The grounds are, baring the house, decks, and oversized shed, available for use including the gazebo with furnishings, lawn chairs, hammock, tree swing, walking paths, A (singular) 5(?) speed bicycle. Interaction with GuestsWe are always available if something is required simply by calling my wife's cell phone, the number of which is provided upon arrival, or knocking on the house door if someone is home. If for some reason we are away during your stay we employ a management company which handles EMERGENCIES for us. You simply call us via Karen's provided number and we contact them. They do stop in periodically when we are away ( they stop in when we're here too). To date, we have not had any problems requiring their services. The NeighborhoodWe live on a quiet secluded dirt road with little traffic and no noise even vaguely resembling that found in cities. Wildlife is generally abundant. Getting AroundTaxi service is available otherwise a vehicle is advisable. Other Things to NoteThough comfortable, the room (with full private bath - shower not tub) is not excessively large. We feel it is ample for one or two individuals willing to share a bed. We do not believe it is either pet or child friendly. The grounds, lawn furniture, gazebo , etc are available for your use but the main house and decks are considered private. At present we have one 5 speed bike available for use with the proviso that if you use it don't get yourself injured, you are NOT covered for medical expenses. There is NO A/C , refrigerator, or coffee machine. There are plenty of screened windows and a 3 speed ceiling fan. These appear to have been adequate thus far. Karen is entertaining the idea of providing a carafe of coffee in the gazebo upon request If We Are Home during your stay. Oft-times we visit our children regardless of guests arrival as we have already made plans before accepting a guest. We generally inform a potential guest of this possibility so you realize we will not be physically available. We are always available through text, phone, or Internet and have a friend who we can contact in an emergency. Extra blankets are in the bottom dresser draw as are spare linens for extended stays. There is a built in cabinet in the bathroom with extra toilet paper, paper towels, towels etc. We do not allow smoking in the room, but ashtrays are in the gazebo for those of us when cannot or do not want to abstain.

Guests are welcome to use any other part of the property. Interactions between guests and host range from brief text message directions to explain arrival and departure to lively conversations over a glass of wine - totally dependent on personal preference and need: we can, in any case, always provide that missing cup of sugar :-) and hope our guests communicate their worries and needs to us. The NeighborhoodThe Hudson Valley extends 150 miles above the tip of Manhattan and is the oldest tourist destination since Henry Hudson sailed the Half Moon up the Hudson in 1609. In 2013, the region was proclaimed as ONE OF THE TOP 20 DESTINATIONS IN THE WORLD. Designated as a National Heritage Area, the valley is steeped in history, natural beauty, culture and a burgeoning food and farmer’s market scene. Among many attributes, it’s the oldest wine producing area in the country, and the magnificent scenery inspired artists whose works became the Hudson River School of Painters in 1825. Things to do: Bike or walk to town (1.4 miles to the center; along route 9), and enjoy Rhinebeck's wide variety of restaurants, the farmer's market on Sundays, the independent Upstate movie theater, and exclusive shopping. Attend a party at Grasmere, or swim or play tennis at the town's recreational park. Visit historical sites (10 - 20 min) such as Clermont, Montgomery Place, Olana, and Wilderstein, Mills Mansion, Vanderbilt Mansion, and the FDR Presidential Library, Kingston's Historical District, the Kingston Roundout Waterfront, or catch a movie at the 1950 Hyde Park Drive-In movie theater. In other words, there is privacy, beautiful nature and amazing animal sightings, but also the occasional critter that is too loud, a sometimes challenging drive way (especially during the rainy/wintry months) , and the fact that even little storms can knock out power no matter what the season. The SpaceSoaring cathedral ceilings , rustic exposed beams and loads of light set the tone for this dramatic and unique space. The private entrance and stair up to the entire top floor is for your use alone and isn't shared with any other guests. Each of the two bedroom suites has it's own bathroom with jacuzzi tub and skylight, decorative fireplace, seating area and french doors to a private deck with table and chairs. In the hallway between the two bedrooms there is a breakfast "mini bar" (NOT A FULL KITCHEN) which features a refrigerator, Keurig coffee machine, electric kettle and microwave oven and is stocked with coffees, teas, treats, hot cocoa and bottled water. The space is comfortably furnished with an eclectic mix of new and antique furniture, original artwork and prints with luxurious bedding and towels for your comfort. Also available for your use; an iron and ironing board, hair dryers in each bathroom, bath oils and bubbles, Scrabble and backgammon and a fully equipped picnic basket. This historic house and the barn once had a life as a true Bed & Breakfast and a few remnants of that period remain, namely the kitchy names for the guest rooms. The "Fox Den" looks out over gardens and the house beyond and has a queen sized bed and seating areas with a few steps leading up to it's bathroom. The "Huntsman's Hideaway" overlooks woods and has a king sized bed and a pull out sofa. The house is located just outside of the Village, and is set far from the road, accessed through a long gated private driveway. We share the driveway with our two neighbors and multitudes of deer, wild turkeys, foxes and other critters so drive with caution as you approach. PLEASE NOTE : Cell service can be spotty here as we are in the country after all, so be prepared to unplug more than usual and enjoy the serenity. The WiFi has recently been improved so it should be better now ( 12/2016) than some of the reviews suggest. If a guest has left a baby at home or may need an emergency back up please let me know and I can arrange it so that I can always be reached on your behalf. Guest AccessGuests have their own parking area which is separate from the main house, exclusive use of the top floor of the guest house and it's two decks and are welcome to quietly enjoy the grounds which include a pond stocked with colorful Koi fish, the vegetable/cutting garden, perennial gardens and a hammock to relax in. Interaction with GuestsI will personally greet guests whenever possible and give them the overview...after that you will be left to enjoy the privacy of the space and grounds. I will have books and suggestions for you if you want input on your stay. The NeighborhoodRhinebeck sits at the crossroads of the historic Hudson Valley and there is a great deal to do. The town is full of charming shops, galleries, day spas and quality restaurants with everything from Thai and Japanese, Mediterranean, Italian, Local Farm to Table fare, tapas and Mexican to an authentic French bistro and patisserie and of course we host the finest farmers market in the county on Sundays. Additionally, for after dinner fun, there is a wine bar with jazz ensembles and a pub with live music and dancing as well as a charming movie house with two screens showing indie and foreign films and offering homemade baked goods, hot cider and teas and fresh popped corn with REAL butter...just like at home. Getting AroundThe Amtrak stops right in Rhinecliff Station if you want to take the train up but you really will need a car once you are here in order to thoroughly explore.
