The SpaceGreat family home on Burt Mountain. It has 4 bedrooms and 2 baths. Very comfy and great for families, kids and pets. Yes, if you have a pooch, he or she can come too. I have a nice fenced in yard. It is a wire cattle fence, so if you have a tiny dog, keep an eye out. I am 20 mins from downtown Asheville and about 30 min from the Biltmore Mansion. It is quiet and cozy if you just want to hang out in the country or close enough to town if you want some excitement. Three bedrooms have queens sized beds and the last bedroom has a full. It is fully stocked with linens and towels. The kitchen has all the gadgets you need. No TV, no phone, no internet, there is AC (but you don't need it all the time) and, of course, heat in the colder months. Verizon gets best cell phone service. Navitat Canopy Zip Line Tours about 2 miles away. Lots of local hiking. Property extends across road to creek which is the North Fork of the Big Ivy. Local dirt road from Barnardsville leads to Craggy Gardens on Blue Ridge Parkway. Great hiking in Pisgah National Forest. Super friendly farmer's market on Saturday mornings at either old firestation or community center. Public pool at community center. Feel free to contact me via Airbnb messaging if the dates you desire are not listed. I sometimes block off dates so that bookings don't get too close to each other. If you are a repeat guest, I would love to offer you a loyalty discount. Guest AccessGuests have access to the entire home and property. Interaction with GuestsExpect a visit from either myself, a family member, or family friend during your visit to see how your stay is going.

The SpaceThis cozy pioneer cabin was built in the 1840s by the Scots/Irish settlers of our surrounding mountains. It served as the main residence until the 1930s and was used as a pottery studio from 2003-2011. We have restored its basic amenities. It has a comfortable queen bed with convertible futon couch for an additional adult guest or two small children. There is a microwave, coffee/tea maker, spring water dispenser (our water is the best!) and a small fridge in the cabin. Cindy is a professional potter and she and Rod are organic vegetable market growers. The cabin is surrounded by the gardens, potter's studio and showroom, chicken houses, greenhouses, barn and mushroom yard. Our house is right next door. A wonderful mountain stream flows through the property. This is a great place for a writer's retreat or as a jumping off point for the many opportunities our mountains have to offer. Downtown Asheville is only 35 minutes away. Guest AccessPrice includes a daily home-cooked breakfast for two* with a small charge for extra guests, if applicable. The cabin is not plumbed, but there is a full bathroom with shower 50 feet away, private entrance. Wi-Fi is available, but cell service is sketchy. Evening meals are also available for an additional charge of $18 per person. Menus change with the season. Or, you can join us for 'leftover night' and donate to the cause! *-Rentals longer than six nights will be provided with a Continental breakfast basket delivered to the cabin or as otherwise agreed upon with the guest. Interaction with GuestsInteraction with the guest is up to the guest. If you want solitude, we'll leave you alone. However, you are welcome to sit on our front porch (next door to the cabin) or take class with us. You can even help collect the eggs! We offer a variety of fee-based classes on basic homesteading, pottery demonstrations, fermentation, bread/biscuit making, cheese making, shiitake mushroom production and more. Class fees are set based on length and complexity and should be booked in advance of the visit. The NeighborhoodWe live in Madison County, NC. This is a very rural and rugged county straddling both the Great Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge mountains bordering Tennessee. The area is popular for hiking (including the Appalachian Trail and Mountain to Sea Trail) , ski resorts, white-water rafting and boating, Zip-lines (we're across the ridge from Navitat), the Blue Ridge Parkway, historical sites, art venues, Penland School of Craft, ballad singing, mountain music venues, live theater (Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre) and more. Getting AroundNo public transportation is available here. Other Things to NoteWe will provide you with brochures and maps describing the many activities available in our area. There are restaurants in Mars Hill and Weaverville. We are only 35 minutes from Asheville and all that it offers. This is a working mini-farm so appropriate footwear is a must, especially in inclement weather.

There is a fenced in backyard for your pals to run around, pet owners must scoop their friends leftovers with the shovel outside and throw it over the mountain! Driveway can be muddy after rain, sometimes its best to park at bottom and walk up (nice workout!) if you dont have all wheel drive. The driveway can be challenging if you've never driven in the Mountains, it is steep and curves around. If you are unsure just park at the bottom or at the midway point before it curves around and walk the rest of way! Unless you have Verizon or Us Cellular you likely won't have a signal or it will be very spotty but we have fast wifi so you can always be connected to the Internet, send iMessages, FaceTime, (website hidden) Voice, make T-mobile wifi calls (and some other carriers).

This wooden cabin is very charming, and looks out on one of the best mountain views in the world. It's 20 minutes from Asheville on 36 acres in a wild, peaceful, lush private cove. It sleeps 4 and has everything you need, including a covered deck. It’s so quiet, wild, and peaceful here. The mountain view is breathtaking, and it changes every moment. The cabin is really cute. It has high ceilings, a separate bedroom, a desk, and a loft. Everyone that comes here remarks that it's the best view they've ever seen. You can walk from the cabin around the land and up into the cove. However, you should know the cabin is quite rustic. If you are seeking a pristine and modern space you best stay in town. It's not possible to keep wasps and bees out. There is a mouse that lives here. That being said, it's very comfortable! There's one queen bed and one full sized futon up in a tight loft, so if there is a second person or couple, the sleeping space is not spacious.

The floors have radiant heat for cozy, foot-friendly winter warmth. Bedroom Configuration The master bedroom on the main floor has a queen size bed. The upstairs bedroom has a king and a twin. The daylight basement bedroom has a queen and a twin. The loft, which is a balcony area overlooking the living area, has a couch that unfolds into a comfortable double futon. Electrical Power Here is your chance to try off-the-grid living without serious hardship. The home is completely off the commercial power grid; the power lines do not even come that far up the mountain. Standard 120 volt AC is supplied via an inverter from a battery bank of 16 deep-cycle six volt batteries arrayed into a 48 volt DC system. Power to charge the batteries comes from three sources: solar, mini-hydro, and a backup generator. Primary power comes from two 1,200 watt solar panel arrays. The secondary source is a mini-hydro unit which is installed at the home of our daughter a little way down the mountain. The hydro unit runs 24/7 and for much of the day it produces more power than is needed for her home, so the excess is sent up the mountain to our system. Backup power comes from a quiet, highly reliable, propane-powered, 15 kilowatt, water-cooled, low (1,800) rpm, 2007 model Kohler generator. The system has proven to be much more reliable than commercial power usually is this far out in the mountains, since it is unaffected by the thunderstorms that often interrupt commercial power. The only disadvantage is that the primary and secondary power sources can generate only a limited amount of power for continuous use. The use of electric stoves, ovens, and air conditioners is not feasible at all, and prolonged use of smaller heat-producing appliances like toasters and hair dryers will cause the generator to kick on. We make a kind of game of it. We watch the battery voltage and conserve if it is getting low. If we hear the backup generator come on, we've lost the game. It's not a big deal, though. If you really need to dry your hair then go ahead and do so. We use LP gas to cook, dry clothes, and heat water for household use and for the radiant-heat floors in the winter. Bears Den cottage is located on a dead end mountain road backing up to the Pisgah Natl Forest, just N. of Asheville. It is just minutes from Navitat, WNC's only zipline!! The home is decorated to match the mountains, easy going and peaceful. Sit by the creek on the property or listen to the roar of the river below. There is hiking at Douglas Falls down the road. The lawn is beautifully landscaped with different varieties of flowers all season long. When in season, pick fresh blackberries and raspberries in the front yard. Enjoy a book or glass of wine on the wrap around porch or soak in the 6 person hot tub that sits up on a deck. The property is very secluded and quiet, yet close to many fun things to do...including whitewater rafting, gem mining, shopping, restaurants and the Biltmore Estate. It is the perfect vacation spot, we love it and know you will too. Behaved Pets welcome. Our Mission: It is our goal to provide you with everything that you will need to make Bear's Den your home away from home. If you have special requests prior to arrival, we will do our best to accommodate your needs. All you will need is your toiletries and food. Our Story: We operate Bears Den Cottage ourselves. We both have a background in hospitality including working at a 4 star AAA rated bed and breakfast in Colorado. We fell in love with Bears Den the first time we saw it. We have an excellent team of care takers that make sure it is just how we would have it. Bears Den has a magical feel to it...you can almost see the fairies dancing in the flower gardens. :) We sit on the porch for hours watching the birds, butterflies and humming birds and listening to the river below. The house is open and airy with a big picture window looking out into the forest. The cottage is decorated appropriately with bears, flowers and inspirational signs to make your trip the mountains relaxing and enjoyable. There is a good chance of seeing wild life at this property. We guarantee you will have an excellent time.
