The SpaceYour room is very attractive & light filled with a comfortable queen sized bed. My house is traditional with an English feel. Lots of art, accessories & personality. I am definitely not a minimalist!. Your bath with a tub/shower combo has a skylight & is directly across the hall. It does share with my single bedroom when that is booked. I do have an extra twin bed in my bonus/family room upstairs if you need that for a child- just inquire. You are within a mile of Beaufort's wonderful waterfront & historic district and walking or biking distance to the library, grocery & drug stores. I have a rocking chair front porch that you can sit on & enjoy glimpses of the marsh or my flower filled garden. The neighborhood pool is open in the summer one block away. Driveway parking, a LCD TV in your room, & everything you need to enjoy a visit to the beautiful Crystal Coast with its wonderful beaches, friendly people & many other attractions. This would be a great place for a couple or single woman to stay on business or vacation. Beaufort is the third oldest town in NC - we just celebrated our 300th anniversary! It was the home of Blackbeard & there is continuing evacuation of his ship, the "Queen Anne's Revenge". There are wonderful independent restaurants & shops on Front Street & you could just people watch for hours. Every day new boats come in & there's a great boardwalk for strolling. The Maritime Museum is free & very interesting. The closest beach is on Radio Island, about 2 miles away. It has views of the Beaufort Inlet from downtown to out to sea past Fort Macon. When you cross the bridge to Morehead City there are more great restaurants as well as all the chain stores. Most of the charter fishing boats leave from here to fish in the nearby Gulf Stream. Then go across another bridge to Atlantic Beach (about 5 miles from my house) & you will find Fort Macon, the most visited NC state park, at the east end of the island. To the west is the Aquarium & miles & miles of beach, more shopping restaurants, movie theaters, & one beach town after another, ending in Emerald Isle. "Down East" of Beaufort, are quaint fishing villages with their own history & dialect. At the end is Cedar Island, where the ferry can take you to Ocracoke & up the rest of the Outer Banks. This area is known all over as less crowded than other coastal resorts with many pluses, such as the wild horses that you can see from Front Street just across Taylor's Creek, Or take a short ferry ride to Shackleford Banks to see more horses on an uninhabited island. Cape Lookout is our local lighthouse- you can see its beam from the land, but it's great to go across on a boat & climb it or cross over to the ocean side of the National Seashore where you can imagine what it was like when the first settlers came to this area 400 years ago. Our historic district is as fine as anywhere & the Historic Association gives tours on its English double decker bus. Diving is another attraction- we have so many shipwrecks offshore. This is a boater's paradise- I've never been to a place where boating was more popular. And of course, there's nothing finer than just relaxing in the sun & cooling off with a refreshing dip in the ocean. There is a private airport here & the nearest commercial one is New Bern, about 45 minutes away & a great place for a day trip. You will need a car to do much- we are lacking in public transport. You may use my 2 bikes- a man's & a woman's - as long as the tires aren't flat from lack of air! If you need extra space- have a child or 2 people who want to each have their own room- I have a twin room also & will give a special price for booking the 2. Guest AccessYou can use the washer/dryer if you ask 1st- just need to show you a few things. Same with the kitchen. I have a great front porch with a swing & rocking chairs as well as a bistro table to use whenever you like. Interaction with GuestsI have enjoyed meeting all my guests. I'm a friendly person & will enjoy talking to you if you'd like, but if you're busy that's fine too. The NeighborhoodMy neighborhood is quiet & convenient. Very safe but easy to get places. There is a neighborhood pool for use in the summer. Getting AroundPublic transportation is almost nonexistent here. There is a bike path to downtown & taxis or Uber if you really need them, but having a car is important here. Other Things to NoteBeaufort is one of the nicest coastal spots in the South- if you haven't been here, try us! Please don't stay here if you are allergic or on't like cats, since I have 3. I am very careful about the smells- their litter box is in the garage- but they are very friendly & think everyone comes to visit them!

The SpaceBeautiful 1905 historic home.  3 bedroom 2 bath Beaufort Getaway. The perfect place to enjoy the serenity of Beaufort. Relax on the rear sun deck while grilling the fish dinner you just caught in Gallant's Channel. Plenty of room to park boat and trailer in drive. Short walk or bike ride to historic downtown. BED SHEETS ARE NOT PROVIDED. everything else in a normal home is provided. One level house. Please contact us for more info. Please remember this is a 111 yr old house. It has lots of charm and is great but it has its quirks. If you want the five star hotel experience then please go find that. If you want an authentic Beaufort locals experience at a great price, then it is here. We are walking distance to virtually everything in town. This is a very low maintinence property and we hope you and your family are the same. Thank you for your help in paying for our vacation home. Guest AccessThe entire home is yours. There is off street parking for many cars and even your truck and boat trailer. The fenced in backyard has plenty of room for dogs and children to run. The property is on a double size lot which is rare in historic downtown. Interaction with GuestsWe generally are available by phone or text. Most of the time it is not necessary to be there for you to check in. The house is on a keypad code that changes with new guests. The NeighborhoodWhat is there to do? Why beaufort downtown? Boating, wild horses, kitesurfing, weekends out on the islands, free access to beaches, free state parks, loads of history and pirates, amazing fishing, unbelievable sunsets, being so close to the beach but a quick drive to the harbor where the house is located. Walking distance to everything......pet friendly town, live music every where, great food, outstanding beer and wine specialty options, paid parking downtown in season, take a bike, ....kid friendly, NC maritime museum is free and has many activities for kids and sailing camps. Easy budget friendly boat tours to island to hunt for shells and pirate treasure (could happen), NC aquarium, summer camps, Duke research facilities on the next island . Great food and amazing seafood. And you must go see and climb the Cape Lookout lighthouse. It is close and makes for a beautiful day. Ok thats enough ranting, I also suggest you enjoy the back deck in the sunlight and grill up a feast for your crew. Getting AroundPublic transit is not needed as everything is walking/biking distance. Please note that Beaufort is a harbor town and not a beach island. You do have to drive to get to the surf. We are very close to the walking District downtown but situated in a quiet street. Other Things to NoteBeds. There are 3 queen beds and a fold out couch.

The SpaceI call my house Shell Land II, as I have a massive shell collection, many of which are displayed on my front porch railing. The house is a two-story 150-year old home (with all of the quirks a 150-year old home has!), located just outside the historic district. My favorite feature of the house is the large front porch, complete with rocking chairs so you can “sit a spell” and talk with the neighbors who walk by. My house is one 1.5 blocks from the water, and a short kayak or swim over to the Rachel Carson Nature Preserve, known by locals as Bird Shoals or Carrot Island. Rental kayaks, paddleboards, bikes all available nearby. I have two (well-used) bikes you can use for short jaunts around town. Note that I do use one of them fairly often--we can work bike schedules :) If you crave the open ocean, you can walk four blocks to the National Park Service Visitor Center and take the passenger ferry to Shackleford Island or Cape Lookout. And Bogue Banks with lots of public beach access spots is a 20-minute drive away. Your room is on the ground floor and has a pullout double couch (which I will make up for you), and is right off the front porch so you can enjoy those rocking chairs. You'll have a private bathroom that is off the dining room, not connected to your room, but it's just a few steps away. You are also welcome to use the outdoor shower. I provide a coffee maker and coffee in the kitchen--you just have to make it :) My house-keeping style is casual and my politics are progressive. This is a gay-friendly household. I'm happy for you to use the microwave in the kitchen and keep a small number of items in the fridge--no cooking, though. If you need to use the washer and dryer (or hang out your laundry), just let me know. I hope you will enjoy my menagerie of chickens and ducks in the large backyard. I have a sweet, three-legged dog that comes in the house at night and sometimes during the day. She won't come in your room, but if you are allergic to dogs, this may not be the spot for you. Guest AccessFront porch with rocking chairs. Dining room, living room, kitchen are shared with me--and sometimes my college-age son if he happens to be home on a break. Interaction with GuestsI have boogie boards and beach towels and, as mentioned, (well-used) bikes you can use. I have all of the info you need to plan your activities: ferry schedules, paddleboard rental info, bike tour info, etc. And if you want to chat with me about all of the fun things to do, schedules permitting, we can chat. The NeighborhoodBeaufort is the third-oldest town in North Carolina, and we have a fascinating historic district and many beautiful, restored historic homes. We have picturesque old cemeteries, and a double-decker bus, imported from England, that tours the town with a narrator who gives the full story of the many interesting things that Beaufort offers. Blackbeard the Pirate also spent time in Beaufort, and his house is just down the street from mine! Folks come from all over the world to visit our small town—for its history and its natural beauty. Getting AroundBeaufort is a great place to bike and walk. You will need a car to get to out-lying areas; you car can be parked in front of my house. There is one Uber car in the area, though I have not used it. Several taxi services. The closest public airport is in New Bern (Coastal Carolina Regional airport), a 50-minute drive away. Bike rental guy about half a mile away from my house. Other Things to NoteBecause of transference of smoke to linens and furniture, I rent to non-smokers only.

Please note: Since this is a room in my home, I need information from you 1st. Let me know the kind of things you'd like to know if someone was staying in your home, like where you're from, purpose of visit, profession, schools, anything you think pertinent. Please send this info with your inquiry- I appreciate it. Remember that any websites, phone #s. etc, won't show up in your inquiry to me. I have a cat, so please keep that in mind also. My home is in a quiet neighborhood about a mile from historic downtown Beaufort, with its charming boardwalk & boat docks, great restaurants & shops (no chains!), & old fashioned homes with rocking chair porches. You're within walking distance of the library, grocery stores & drugstores & only minutes from Atlantic Beach. This is a tourist area, yes, but not crowded like many others. The room I rent has a comfortable queen sized bed, wifi, a bath across the hall & all the conveniences of home! I love to meet new people & you'll have plenty of room in my home to sit in the sunroom or on the porch, ride the bikes I have, or just relax. The Maritime Museum here is wonderful, as well as Ft. Macon & the NC Aquarium. I am usually available to answer questions, since my office is in a building on the property & I have lots of brochures & recommendations if you don't know the area. I do also rent a single room so you may be sharing the bath with one other person, but many times it will just be you. And I'll be happy to work out a rate for the 2 rooms if you need both. I've traveled extensively myself & hosted people for over 3 years. I have great reviews on another site. I hope you will come stay with me! I've met a lot of wonderful folks. My neighborhood is a small newer one is a very old charming waterfront town. Beaufort has not been ruined by masses of tourists, although many people visit to enjoy its quaintness, great shops & restaurants, beautiful historic homes. & friendly people. There's something for everyone here, especially if you like water! I've never seen a place more into boating of all types. Fishing off a pier, the surf or deep sea is very popular. Swimming of course- Our beaches face South so they aren't as rough. It's pretty bicycle friendly And walking the beach or the boardwalk is always entertaining! If you are artistically inclined, there are many artists & crafts here. We have wonderful restaurants of all types- seafood, good ole NC barbeque, gourmet & more..Of course, we have convenient chain grocery & drug stores, but none downtown, thank goodness. You will enjoy all the activiies we have- I can tell you more about them when I see you.

Full kitchen, well stocked. Beaufort is great to explore on bikes, and this apartment made it easy to wheel the bikes inside when walking to dinners or taking a boat trip. Marlena was a joy to work with, and very accommodating. We have no regrets - highly recommend. JR 4/15 _________________________________

The SpaceThe room is in a c. 1949 house with a quaint feel. It has many of its original features, so the house has lots of character. The house decor is eclectic. Your cozy room is carpeted (the rest of the house has wood except vinyl in the bathroom), has a queen size bed with a variety of pillows (firm and soft), 1 west-facing double window, a dresser, small desk, and closet with hangers. The house has central heat and air, but a window AC unit will allow you to control the temperature to your liking in the warmer months. The private bathroom is steps away from the bedroom and has a tub (original), shower, sink, and toilet. Guest AccessIn addition to the private room and bath, guests can access the fenced-in yard, front porch with swing, kitchen, and living room. The living room has a TV with basic cable and the house has Wifi. The kitchen is available for your use for light meal prep (microwave, boiling water), as long as you clean-up after yourself (there is no dishwasher). Please don't leave any food unattended, my Pirate Kitty (one eye and black fur) will steal your food. I don't want you to lose your food or him to get sick. I will offer coffee in the morning. Interaction with GuestsI live in the north side of the house and have a private bedroom and bathroom to myself. I am friendly and look forward to chatting with guests as I can (I work and am involved in several activities that keep me busy, even when at home). I am available to help make your stay as comfortable as possible and to advise you on things to do around town. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood, Highland Park, was established many decades ago and is one of the older neighborhoods within Town limits. The area consists mostly of single family homes (mostly 1940s/50s homes, with new intermixed) on non-primary roads. Anchors Rest is on the bicycle route that will take you to the downtown area in one direction and in the other, through a small neighborhood that comes out at a grocery store. Getting AroundPARKING Parking is easy at Anchors Rest. There is parking in the driveway. But, if you don't like parking under the tree that overhangs the driveway, then parking in the front or side of the house in the grass is fine. BIKING/WALKING IN DOWNTOWN AREA I have one bike that is available to guests (it is made for a female, but others are welcome to use it). If you enjoy walking, it takes about 20 minutes at a leisurely pace to get to the coffee shop/wine bar on Turner Street (approx 1 mile). Front Street (shortest distance) is about .5 miles away and the walk west along Front Street and the waterfront to the shops is beautiful with multiple small waterfront parks along the way (Gordon street public access, Grayden Paul Park public access, park beside DockHouse restaurant). Kayaks and SUPs can be launched at Gordon Street and Grayden Paul. Guests can swim at Gordon Street although I will caution you about the tidal currents (ask me for details). Ferries to the Rachel Carson Reserve and Cape Lookout National Seashore are located downtown in addition to restaurants and places that offer tours, kayak and paddleboard rentals and much more. Be sure to visit the N.C. Maritime Museum and Beaufort Historical Site & Visitor Center. DRIVING TO ATTRACTIONS Beaufort has a lot to offer, but there are several other nearby opportunities to enjoy our coast: Fort Macon State Park, Bogue Banks (about a 20 minute drive); N.C. Aquarium at Pine Knoll shores (about a 25 minute drive); Core Sound Waterfowl Museum & the Cape Lookout National Seashore visitor center and ferry landing at Harkers Island (about a 30 minute drive). This is just a short list! See my guidebook for other interesting things to do. OTHER TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS Beaufort is not a big city, but we do have a good number of Uber options. Taxis are also available. Carteret County runs a small public transportation service, but you have to call ahead in plenty of time. The vehicles are large passenger vans/small buses. The Beaufort stop is near the Courthouse on Broad Street. The fare is less than $5. Web search terms - "CCATS Carteret County transportation" Other Things to NoteYour good experience is a priority for me. Please let me know if there is something I can do to address an issue or to make your stay more comfortable. The safety of my pets is also a priority. Please make sure doors to the outside are closely completely. I am quiet and respectful and I expect that guests will also be. Pets are not allowed to stay in the house (three rescued kitties live here). But, an experienced and mature neighborhood pet sitter might be available to host a small dog in their home. Please inquire.
