The SpaceThe view from my living room "is a spectacular, sweeping, mountain scene of pastoral charm," as one visitor put it. The bedroom is large and filled with warmth from watercolor paintings I painted myself and handmade quilts. Rest deeply in my antique, king-sized sleigh bed. Adding to the warmth and comfort are the private porch entrance, the private bath, and the decorative screen separating the suite from the living area. Vista Ridge Chalet isn't the most affordable night in Black Mountain, but it may be the highest. At this altitude, it's all about incredible mountain views, healthy breakfast choices, comfort and down home hospitality. Last year's prices brought in a lot of satisfied guests, so we don't intend to go up or down. If you like quiet, the sound of wild birds and the soft rustle of leaves, come for a visit. Vista Ridge is a unique experience of warmth and friendship. Guest AccessPlease check in between 4 and 6 pm. If you can not make this check in time, please call to discuss other arrangements. Once you have your key you are free to come and go. Interaction with GuestsIf wanted I will provide a fire in the fireplace for your enjoyment during our cool mountain evenings. I have an upstairs bedroom I will retreat to when you wish to have privacy. If you want to visit, I enjoy making new friends. I always enjoy time spent with my guests in conversation, sharing and learning from one another. I like to make your meal feel like "old friends catching up," instead of just a quick bite before you head out the door. And that's fine too if you've got big plans while you're here! The NeighborhoodPrivate gated community tucked away in the mountains, but only minutes from beautiful downtown Black Mountain, where one can find excellent dining and eclectic shopping. Asheville is just 25 minutes away. I am also close to popular conference destinations such as the YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly and Warren Wilson College. We have many excellent restaurants in Black Mountain and Asheville to which I can direct you. Other Things to NoteIncluded in your stay is a basic breakfast of fresh fruit, yogurt, a pastry and fresh ground and brewed coffee. I always choose organic and/ or local ingredients. For no extra charge I accommodate food preferences such as gluten or dairy free. For an extra fee, I am happy to provide a home cooked, gourmet, hot breakfast which many guests recommend as an added bonus. Examples include cheese blintzes with seasonal fruit, homemade fruit tarts, artisanal breads with homemade jam, omelettes, pancakes and so on at $15 per person. Once you've confirmed your booking, call me to discuss your meal preferences and I can add any additional fees to your reservation if you choose. For folks wanting to enjoy nature, I can direct you to lots of hiking trails close by. No need to get back in your car.

Built in 2008, this two-story home has wonderful views of Black Mountain and Montreat. The top floor has a master suite with king bed and full bath and a spacious great room with gas fireplace, kitchen & dining areas. The great room opens to a large screened porch, perfect for viewing, rocking, and outdoor eating. The patio just outside the screened porch has a gas grill. The lower level of Massey Cottage has a full bath and a half bath, a laundry room, and three bedrooms---one with a queen & two with two twins each. For additional sleeping accommodations, there is a double sleeper sofa in the great room. All bedrooms have a full view of the valley. Home offers all the modern amenities, including A/C, dishwasher, washer & dryer, DVD player and wireless internet access. NOTE from The Massey's regarding the driveway: The split driveway is steep but accommodates parking for 3-4 cars just outside the entry doors It has two turns, and for those not used to making sharp turns on a steep hill, this tip may be helpful: Do not turn into the curve too soon; instead, when approaching the turn, swing out a little and go along the farther (and longer) edge of the curve. At our driveway, this means keeping close to the line of pines at the street entry and close to the upper bank at the second entry. Likewise, stay close to both when exiting. This has worked for the ordinary sedans that we drive. Additional amenities include: coffee maker, king size bed, nearby medical services, nearby grocery, private, cookware, close to town, view, washer & dryer, ironing board. The NeighborhoodConvenient to everything Getting AroundYes Other Things to NotePlaces to visit while you are in the area: Lake Lure is a well-known destination for thousands of visitors each year from around this country, Canada, and abroad. The Town of Lake Lure is a beautiful place to visit and a wonderful place to live; it is the home of over 1,050 permanent residents. Located in western North Carolina, the town sits in the heart of Hickory Nut Gorge, east of Asheville. The Rocky Broad River winds its way through a series of rapids down through Hickory Nut Gorge, and the crystal clear water flows through the valley that feeds Lake Lure. The Town of Lake Lure encompasses 13.25 square miles including the lake with a large central body of deep water, three long bays, an island of seven acres and many small bays and inlets with a background of forest clad hills and mountains. The climate is unusually temperate as Lake Lure lies in the “thermal belt” of the western North Carolina mountains and foothills. The lake is the number one attraction and the reason so many families visit Lake Lure year after year. National Geographic has called Lake Lure one of the most beautiful man-made lakes in the world. Visitors come to enjoy the 720 acres of lake, sparkling clean beach area, and the incredible Blue Ridge mountain range including Chimney Rock. History records that the idea of a resort community in western North Carolina was the vision of Dr. Lucius B. Morse. Soliciting the financial backing of his brothers, Dr. Morse purchased 400 acres around Chimney Rock in 1902 to create Chimney Rock Park. Additional acreage was acquired over the next several years to bring the total to 8,000 acres. Dr. Morse conceived the idea of building a dam on the Rocky Broad River to create a lake and a year-round resort. The dam was completed in September 1926, forming the lake which was named Lake Lure by Dr. Morse’s wife, Elizabeth Parkenson. The Town of Lake Lure was incorporated in 1927. The Town of Lake Lure is a great location for sports including swimming, golfing, hiking or serious rock climbing. You can enjoy a wide variety of water activities, ranging from canoeing and fishing to pleasure boating and water skiing. Both motor and non-motorized boats enjoy the lake; however, a lake permit is required to place a private boat on the lake.
