In the popular Holt Knob neighborhood, very private feeling, up and out of the way with the feeling that you are in the middle of forest and mountains. HVAC added April 2014. Central Heating and Air Conditioning Our cottage is unique, quaint and just a short walk to Historic Main Street in Downtown Highlands, NC! Less then 1/2 mile from all that Downtown has to offer, and a lovely 7 minute walk to the first restaurant/bar. Our heavily wooded cottage makes you feel like you are away from it all, high above the main road and very quiet surroundings. This comfortable split level layout boasts 2 bedrooms upstairs along with the kitchen, dining room and living areas. Downstairs (Accessible by an outdoor staircase), you will find a very private additional two bedrooms with its own entrance. Both bedrooms upstairs feature queen sized beds, and downstairs you will find one bedroom with a queen sized bed and one bedroom with custom made bunk beds (two twins). There is also on-site laundry, a fully equipped kitchen and lots of outdoor space! Come stay in our cottage and enjoy magnificent Highlands, NC to the fullest. Bedrooms are configured with: Upstairs Bedroom 1 = 1 Queen Bed Upstairs Bedroom 2 = 1 Queen Bed Downstairs Bedroom 3 = 1 Queen Bed Downstairs Bedroom 4 = 2 twin sized beds (Bunks) Total square footage of the entire house is approximately 1500. Comfortably sleeps 6 adults and 2 children + your furry friend. Yes, we welcome dogs with a 'bring your dog on vacation' fee. We cannot accommodate more than 6 Adults. * Roku Player with Netflix access * Wii Game Console with Movies * Large selection of Movies * Fast internet access * Large 50" flat screen TV * Parking for 4 cars maximum (gravel drive, NOTE: no street parking) * Wood burning fireplace * Sofa and three chairs in the living area (seating for 6). keep in mind this is a cozy cabin meaning the rooms are on the smaller side. (and more!). we are also adding HVAC in the coming weeks. once that happens, we will add HVAC / Cooling and Heating as additional features! Please note: 1. Driveway is gravel and although it is not steep, it is not a paved driveway, take care when going in and out! 2. Downstairs bedrooms have a seperate entrance. there is a staircase (outside) at the rear of the house that goes from the upstairs covered patio to the downstairs deck to access both bedrooms! We maintain our guests privacy and are only available in the event of an emergency. Check in process is very simple. 1 week before your arrival you will receive check in instructions including the door access code. once you arrive, the water heater and house heat may be turned off (instructions will be given 1 week before your arrival). if you do not receive an email from us, please contact us through AirBNB Easy walk to town, yet in the middle of the forest and mountains. We spot wildlife regularly including Bears, bob cats, etc... (keep the trash inside the house or in the Bear Proof trash house!) Neighbors are wonderful and houses have adequate space between neighbors creating a nice private experience. Please keep the noise level down after 11pm. there is a city wide noise ordinance after 11pm. Easy walk to town, 1/2 mile away from main street, restaurants and shopping! Guest AccessThe entire house, upstairs and downstairs. keep in mind that the downstairs is accessed through an exterior staircase, very cozy and private. Access information (Door Lock Codes) will be sent 1 week before your arrival. Interaction with GuestsWe maintain our guests privacy and are only available in the event of an emergency. The NeighborhoodExtremely quiet and secluded yet only a 5 minute walk to the business of main street! especially in the fall, winter and spring its rare to even see a car drive by! Getting Aroundwalk to town or a short drive to fantastic hiking, waterfalls and mountain vistas. The NeighborhoodThe house is located in a very nice and quiet subdivision and just a mile away to downtown Highlands. Getting AroundIf you enjoy walking, it takes only 10 min from our subdivision (and 20 min from our house) to get to Bryson's Plaza. Other Things to NoteThis fully equipped house sleeps six people, and it can be perfect getaway for a family or several friends. Living room area is spacious and has a large wood burning fireplace. It is equipped with flat screen TV, DVD player, and stereo system. Kitchen is equipped with new stainless steal appliances and has everything you might need for gourmet or simple cooking. The dining room is suitable for six people with two additional bar seats. Master bedroom has king size bed, private bathroom and walk-in closet. The second bedroom has queen size bed and sleeps two people. The third bedroom has two single beds and suitable for two people.

We give you a combination to the front door. Guest AccessGuests have access to the entire house. This is a Vacation Rental - the owner is a phone call away - not on site. For our low-mobility guests: One bedroom is on the main level, so no stairs are needed to join in all the fun of the kitchen, living room, family room, indoor screened room, outdoor deck, charcoal grille, etc. Interaction with GuestsWe love to give guests a list of things to do and places to go and make sure they have a wonderful stay. Most contact is thru e-mail and phone. The NeighborhoodWe are in the woods, at the end of a cul-de-sac, so almost zero traffic. Mostly paved, but last 1/2 mile is dirt/gravel - very typical for this area of the mountains. Our backyard is the border of the "wild and scenic" - officially designated - Chattooga River area of the Nantahala National Forest. A trail leads from our door to the amazingly beautiful Chattooga River and Chattooga River Trail. Getting AroundNo public transit. Vehicles are the way to go, although many people love mountain biking the area. Other Things to NoteMany wedding parties stay here - seems Highlands and Cashiers are very popular places to get married!

The NeighborhoodNeighborhood has just 23 homes, it is a close group and very friendly. Many are retirees from Florida, Alabama, Hilton Head, and Atlanta. There are lots of walkers and you'll make friends if you want to. I've actually had two sets of guests who wound up buying homes nearby after staying at my place. Getting AroundThere is room for 2 SUVs in my parking, if you need more you can park at the top of the drive. Other Things to NoteNever leave trash out as it will attract raccoons and bears and they are messier than they are dangerous. There is a recycling center within 2 miles, instructions are provided when you book.

Elegant 5 bedroom/ 5 1/2 bath mountain home located just 1.5 miles from Main Street - Highlands NC. Enjoy the cool mountain air while sitting outside on one of 12 stone patios and wooden decks overlooking our 2 waterfalls and ponds. The house is very spacious and provides many areas for a big group to gather as well as many spots to relax if you wish to enjoy a little privacy. The house has one wood-burning fireplace as well as 4 gas-log fireplaces to cozy up to on those cool evenings. Each bedroom has one queen bed and its own private bath - the master bath has a jacuzzi as well as a walk-in shower. The furniture in the house is very lovely with many antiques. Principal rooms include a living room, dining room, lower living room, library, and den.The living room has a spectacular 12 arm Waterford Chandelier. The house is just a 5 minute drive from The Farm at Old Edwards Inn. Lovely wooded lot just 1.5 miles from Main Street Highlands NC on a private road with just 3 other houses. Parking is plentiful with over 10 paved parking spaces. 2 waterfalls and ponds with stone patios and gazebos.

      Built for my family reunions – sleeps 18! 6 bedroom 4 bath with den (with treadmill and pull-out trundle bed sleeps 2), large loft (with 2 trundle beds and a bunch bed – sleeps 6), living room, dining room with huge table, breakfast area overlooks sunrise, kitchen with gas appliances, screened porch, front deck with charcoal grille, laundry room, etc. Large open floor plan makes socializing easy. Uses a Highlands address, but is located ½ way between Highlands and Cashiers, off of Whiteside Cove Road. (about 20 minutes from each) This is a “woods” location with only one neighbor in sight. Beautiful paths commence directly from our front door, and lead to fabulous hiking trails. Depending on season, we rent by the week or long weekend. This is a "woods" location, for people that want to enjoy nature. Some views are long range across the valley, others are into the adjacent treetops. Still, we are only 20 minutes from downtown Cashiers or Highlands. We are the last home on a dead-end road, so there is no traffic. Paved, until the last 1/2 mile, which is gravel. Plenty of parking, and no steps from the (gravel) parking lot to the front door. Wooded paths from this property lead to extensive, beautiful, riverfront hiking trails. Kids have nature deficit disorder? This will cure it, and create lasting memories!

"In the woods" at the end of a cul-de-sac, but modern construction and amenities including satellite TV and WiFi. 3,000 foot elevation keeps the weather cool in summer, super insulation keeps things warm and cozy in the winter. We built this for ourselves, now we share it with guests! Outside are two deck areas - one front, one out back, one covered, one open to the sky. Includes large charcoal grille. Also kids play area, hammock and fire pit for those s'mores around the campfire! Inside you will find Living Room, Dining Room, Breakfast Nook, Kitchen with eat-in counter-top, screened porch with fantastic long-range views, full laundry room, large loft bunk beds and pull-out trundle beds, and a den with treadmill, TV and pull-out trundle bed. Being 20+ minutes from both Highlands, NC and Cashiers, NC we host a lot of wedding parties. Like the woods? We have some of the best hiking in the world right outside our door, and the spectacular Chattooga River Trail. This is a very peaceful setting with only one neighbor in sight (across the road). The road is barely traveled, so seeing a car is almost a newsworthy event!

Miss Rebecca's Cottage is in one of the best in-town locations on a beautiful 2/3 acre property secluded right next to Sunset Rock Hiking Trail, Highlands Nature Center, and a one-third mile walk to the center of town. There you'll find boutique shopping, fine dining, art galleries, live music, live theater, & movies. Newly renovated and decorated with family heirloom antiques, Miss Rebecca's is a charming, historic cottage newly renovated and decorated with family heirloom antiques. Once an ice house (for blocks of ice from Harris Lake), then a caretaker's house and later, an artist's studio, the property was part of Harvilla, the estate of Miss Rebecca Harris, built in the early 1900's .The beautiful main house still stands next door, and lush grounds seclude the cottage from the quiet street. The main part of the house has been opened into a great room with a wood-burning stone fireplace, well-equipped kitchen, and a comfortable seating area with lots of windows. Parking is off-street and directly adjacent to the cottage. There is no public transportation in Highlands but town limits are a mile and a half square and everything is close by and easily accessible. Five miles of walking trails established by the Highlands Greenways Association willl take you all over town along sidewalks, up mountains, through the Nature Center, and to The Bascom Arts Center.

                        This three bedroom two bath, built in 2013 cabin is located in a great Cul de Sac location in Shelby Place subdivision, less than a mile to down town. It sleeps six people, and it can be perfect getaway for a family or several friends. The living room area is spacious and has large wood burning fireplace. The living room is equipped with flat screen TV, DVD player, and stereo system. The kitchen is equipped with new stainless steel appliances and has everything you might need for gourmet or simple cooking. The dining room is suitable for six people with two additional bar seats. Master bedroom has a TV, king bed and private bathroom with a walk-in closet. Second bedroom has luxurious queen size bed and sleeps two people. The third bedroom has two single beds. The house is about one mile to the Main Street where numerous restaurants and stores are located. If you enjoy walking, it takes only 10 min from our subdivision (and 20 min from our house) to get to Highlands Plaza.
