The Space20 minutes north of town, 1 exit from navitat ropes course! This sweet cozy cabin sits at the back of 3 acres in north Weaverville. The cabin sits at the bottom of a hill, behind a farmhouse built in 1917. This cabin was built in 1815, but moved to its current location 4 years ago and rebuilt. I reused every part of the original structure that I could. The square nails were saved to relay the living room floor. The ceilings in the bathroom and kitchen used to be the porch roof. The heart pine floor in the loft used to cover the log walls in the main room. The stone chimney was used for the current foundation. A one bedroom loft upstairs and bathroom with a claw foot tub downstairs, this charming cabin offers relaxation and quiet. There is a simple built-in wooden ladder accessing the loft. The ladder is moderately steep. A large screened in porch gives you complete privacy off the back of the cabin. This cabin comes with a washer and dryer, internet, and cable. The kitchen offers a full size propane stove/oven and a vintage 1950's refrigerator, as well as a automatic coffee pot and all of the cookware you should need. The cabin is heated with a Jotul wood stove and space heater. It is cooled with a portable air conditioner. The cabin is just 2 miles from I26, on a country road. It is peaceful and beautiful. Come step back in time. Guest AccessThe cabin will be ready at 3pm. The door will be unlocked with a key on the desk. Interaction with GuestsI do not live on the property. The SpaceEscape to the serenity of this zen-inspired log home perched high up on a secluded mountain in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southern Appalachia, yet only 25 miles from the cultural hub of Asheville and minutes to the growing arts community of Marshall, college town of Mars Hill, Wolf Laurel Ski Resort, and the popular village of Weaverville. Enjoy the tranquil natural beauty in every season on 13 acres of mountain woodland. In Spring and Summer the terraced gardens and walking paths are in bloom, lush and often alive with countless butterflies. Autumn brings the spectacular fall foliage that the Blue Ridge Mountains are known for. And winter turns this 3500+ ft. elevation property into a snowy winter wonderland complete with a sledding hill and plenty of room to play in the snow. A picturesque old tobacco barn provides the backdrop for this incredible property. The grounds include terraced woodland gardens that were professionally designed and featured in Southern Living magazine in 2011. Walking paths criss-cross the gardens and take you to private areas to sit, mediate and relax next to the cascading waterfall spring-fed stream. A fire pit, hammock, chairs and benches all await you. Take in the gorgeous scenery of long-range mountain views from the wrap around deck, or hike up to the ridge line for an even more spectacular view. (Please note this hike can be difficult to traverse due to overgrowth in summer, and is more readily accessible in Fall through Spring) Centered around a central atrium, this zen-inspired home was built with tranquility and peacefulness in mind. High, vaulted open-beamed ceilings abound with skylights in every room to bring in loads of natural sunlight. The large gourmet kitchen is outfitted with a double oven, granite counter tops, center island and comes with stainless steel Cuisinart cookware and an eclectic mix of antique dishes and Mason jars for glassware. The dining area offers an antique farm table with reclaimed wood bench and French-back antique chairs with seating for up to 7. The cozy family room opens via french doors to a large sunny West-facing deck with outdoor living space and additional dining table for four, complete with long-range mountain views to the West and barn, garden and stream views to the North. The two bedrooms also enjoy vaulted open-beam ceilings with skylights and french door access to the wrap around deck with rocking chairs to sip your morning coffee and enjoy the view. The second bedroom also includes a sleeping loft perfect for a family with children. All three beds are Queen-sized, offering sleeping space for up to six people comfortably. You may not want to leave, but if you do, you can enjoy the richness of the Southern Appalachian culture that is plentiful in this region. Visit the nearby local, organic family farms and farmer's markets of Madison County or catch a play or musical at the Southern Appalachian Repertory Theater. Dance to live bluegrass or blues at Zuma's coffeehouse in town, and enjoy some regional fare from any of the many restaurants focused on local ingredients and "slow food". Asheville, complete with its wonderful restaurants, shopping, arts district, craft brews, and culture is only a short drive away, as is the infamous Blue Ridge Parkway, and naturally heated mineral springs at Hot Springs. For adventure seekers, you can raft the French Broad River, horseback ride, zip line, hike the Appalachian Trail, ski or snowboard at Wolf Laurel Ski Resort, and much more. Venturing slightly further you can visit the Biltmore Estate, Chimney Rock, Sliding Rock and Cherokee ... the possibilities are endless. Yoga mats and reading materials available onsite, including local and regional tourism books and other resources. Family friendly with games and arts and crafts for children. We folded to pressure and added a TV with Blu-ray DVD player and a collection of DVDs. Of course, you are welcome to bring your own DVDs if a movie night is something you would like while visiting. We will also consider pets upon request. Please inquire. This property is truly a wonderful and incredibly unique place to stay and relax or use as a home base to explore Western North Carolina and Appalachia. We hope you enjoy your stay! Interaction with GuestsThe home is a second home. It is used only seasonally by our family and shared with others who will love and appreciate the unique beauty of this very special place just as we do. Your stay will be private, with no one else on the premises. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do! The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is rural and mountainous with small family-run organic farms and dairies in the area. Properties in the immediate area are on large acreages not visible from the home. The Zen Mountain House is very private and secluded. Getting AroundThere is about a half-mile of gravel road to access the home that is just slightly steep with two switch-backs. This is not a problem at all most of the year so long as you drive cautiously, but in the winter months (primarily the later half of December through February) four-wheel drive or tire chains is recommended in case of snow or icy conditions.

( YakTrax are a must- we do supply 2 pairs ) This does not happen often because we try to keep drive clean but be aware when you instant book that the possibility does exist. We are more adventurous than most. In our 60's and still able to manage the climb when needed. The space is definitely worth it ! Interaction with GuestsWe will respect your privacy but are also happy to assist you should you need anything. We will be delighted to answer any questions, offer coffee or a glass of wine! we are oh so amenable to schmoozing with you ! The NeighborhoodMars Hill has a wonderful Italian Restaurant Papa Nick's, a Pub called The Stackhouse and there is a down home southern breakfast cafe (Little Creek Cafe) nearby. The town also is quaint and historical boasting Mars Hill University in it's D/T area. The Sweet Monkey in Marshall and Stony Knob Cafe are always great places to dine as well. We do have a creek on the property and horses across the road. Lovely pastoral setting. You will see horses, deer, turkey, chickens, goats, donkeys, hawks etc. and possibly the occasional bear. Getting AroundWe are a very scenic 25 min. ride to D/T Asheville and probably the same to Johnson City, TN. Appr. 45 min to Hendersonville. Everything is easily accessible. Other Things to NoteBoth dogs and humans are early risers so you will hear some normal sounds but thankfully we supply ear plugs !!!! LOL Upside is you will be up and able to enjoy all the Asheville area has to offer without setting an alarm. We do our best to keep it as quiet as possible when we are sharing our home but total silence is impossible. Wifi is available but "NO STREAMING" please. Our Verizon phones work fine but you may have to deal with roaming if your service is not as good. This is definitely a place to leave your worries behind and enjoy the beauty of nature. Upon arrival, please park on the right by the "Guest Parking" sign to allow us garage access. Thank You !

Welcome to Sugar Fork Holler, our home! We’ve loved this cabin since it was built it in 2008. It is located in one of the more rural parts of North Carolina, yet enjoys easy access to Asheville. The following information is our effort to enhance your experience here and to facilitate you helping us care for our home. First let’s try to enhance your experience. Read on! The holler is located above Sugar Fork Creek which lies just a short distance through the woods on the other side of the paved road. The Creek, and its companion Bald Mountain Creek, are located in a healthy red oak mountain forest. We are in the woods. The creeks flow even in drought years. These woods are home to a wide variety of wildlife including ’possums, raccoons, bears, a wide variety of birds, the occasional snake, coyotes, a very healthy deer population, chipmunks, squirrels, turkeys, and many more critters too numerous to list. On a day to day basis you should remember:  Don’t sleep with the doors open. You may have visitors if you do. Bears, possums, and raccoons are perfectly capable of climbing onto the deck. We’ve seen it.  Sleeping with the windows open is fine. We do it.  Keep the lid on the garbage can tied down with the bungee cords or you will have garbage to pick up. If you don’t pick up the garbage you may have very close encounters with critters. I could tell you a few stories.  When the garbage can is full please take the trash to the transfer station. It is 6 miles down Bald Mountain Road. Exit the Preserve gate, turn left, go to where the road “Ts”, turn right, go about 200 yards and the dump is on the left. It is open 7 to 7 Monday through Saturday.  Please do not build fires on the property. Winds can rise rapidly in these mountains and cause fires to quickly get out of control. The Pavilion is an excellent place for an evening fire. More on that later. Climate control. We enjoy a four season climate. This means:  We rarely need to use heat or air conditioning in the spring and fall.  Occasionally we need AC in the summer. When we need it we use it but most of the time the ceiling fans do the job.  In the cold months we usually heat with the woodstove but the central heat works well and is less effort.  There are auxiliary electric heaters for the downstairs bedrooms if you need them. The downstairs tends to stay cooler year round than the main level because it is built into the side of the hill.  If you use the central AC please turn it off when your visit is over.  If it is mid-October through mid-April please leave the heat running at 52 degrees when your visit is over to minimize the risk of freezing pipes. Things to do.  White water rafting. The best rivers nearby for rafting are the French Broad and the Nolichucky. Both are fun. The French Broad is great for younger kids and folks that want a more mellow experience. The Nolichucky is more challenging. We prefer the Nantahala Outdoor Center for river trips.  Berry picking. If you are here in late July or early August try picking wild blackberries. They are plentiful, delicious, and easy to find. There are several patches along Ridgeway Road, an excellent spot across from the Pavilion, and the Weaver Knob Trail has lots of bushes. Directions to each of these areas are included below in the relevant sections.  Enjoy the Pavilion. This is a great place to picnic, enjoy an awesome long range view, or hang out in the evening with a fire in the fireplace. There are lights, water, power, picnic tables, and a big fireplace built of local stone. To get there go back to the paved road, turn left, go uphill to Black Bear (a paved road on the left), turn left onto Black Bear and you can’t miss it.  Wolf Laurel Stables. Located at the junction of Sugar Fork and Bald Mountain Creeks, the Stables offer guided horseback rides on trails through the woods. The stables are operated by David Payne. He is very safety conscious (prior to retirement he was in charge of safety for a large area corporation), is excellent with beginners of all ages, and owns the best trail horses around.  Asheville. Great food, thriving microbrewery industry, eclectic downtown, the Biltmore, and much more.  Hiking. There are roads and trails to hike nearby. Some of these are: o Sugar Fork Trail. A trail runs slightly uphill along the north side of Sugar Fork Creek through the conservation area. This is an old logging trail and is part of a nice loop that is probably about two mile long. The trail is a bit rough in places and is very muddy after a good rain. The views of the creek make it well worth the walk. To reach the trail walk downhill from the cabin, turn left and walk Pearl Way to Ridgeway Road (the paved road). Turn right and walk down Ridgeway toward the stables. Before you reach the stables there will be a ford across the creek. Cross the ford and take the trail on your left. The trail runs along the pasture fence and into the woods. Watch for the boulder garden on the right, you can’t miss it. Our kids love climbing on the boulders. When you emerge from the woods turn left on the two rut road to get back to Ridgeway. Turn left at Ridgeway and head downhill back to the cabin. Welcome to The beautiful Preserve. The Sugar-Creek cabin is located just five miles from Highway 19 which is about twelve miles from the town of Burnsville and forty easy miles to Asheville. If your looking for a very nice private clean cabin with a view then Sugar-Creek is for you! You will go through a gate upon arrival and settle into a very clean small development that only offers a few cabin rentals. There is hiking out the door and a very nice pavilion to enjoy a quiet lunch or dinner only minutes from the cabin. There is also The Wolf Laurel Horse stable only .4 mile from the cabin. The local area offers many attractions. White water rafting, hiking, restaurant venue is very good, Mount Mitchell, Skiing only 15 minutes, Zip-lining, fishing and so much more. Please call or email today if you have any questions and are interesting in booking this cabin.
