The SpaceQuaint cabin ideal for the holidays. This log cabin is a unique rental. Normally a small B&B, you can rent the property as a cabin. Master room has a king custom log bed and 2 other bedrooms have queen log beds. A 4th room has trundle beds (2 single beds), and the 5th room/sitting room has a log futon. Comfortably sleeps 8, and the futon can sleep 1 or 2 more for a total of 9-10 guests. Cozy living room with rock fireplace. Front porch with swing and rocking chairs. Side deck. Gazebo and fire pit outside, as well as a gas grill. Definite log cabin feel and decor. Owners have completely independent quarters on the property with separate driveway and parking, and may or may not be there. All linens are provided. Guest AccessGuests have access to almost everything except the basement, a storage closet and the pantry/laundry room. They will also have a grill they can use outdoors and have access to all the outside land. The fire pit also has a grill on top that you can cook on (such as wood fired steaks or burgers), and roast marshmallows. Bring firewood if you plan on using the fire-pit, or you can buy it locally at most gas stations and supermarkets. If you don't want to cook, there are also several restaurants nearby. Interaction with GuestsWe are only a phone call away even when we are not there. We try to meet the guests whenever possible and show them around the cabin, then usually don't meet again until they leave, unless they call us because they need something, so interaction is usually minimal. When we can't be there to welcome guests, we leave instructions. The NeighborhoodThis is a quiet, peaceful area with breathtaking cascading mountain views in several directions. You can see Mt Mitchell, Roan Mountain, Linville Gorge, Sugar Mountain, and even the lights of Lenoir, Hickory and Morganton at night. There are great hiking trails all around us. We are 2 miles from Table Rock Road and Upper Creek Falls, about 4 miles from Linville Falls, 8 miles from Grandfather Mountain, 9 miles from Linville Caverns, and 12 miles from Banner Elk. This is a Christmas Tree growing area (Fraser fur), so if you visit us before Christmas, you can choose and cut a tree and take it with you. Great for Thanksgiving visitors! We are in the Pisgah National Forest area, on a paved road with easy year round access, 3 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway, close to Grandfather Mountain and Linville Falls. Close to several public golf courses, several ziplines, white water rafting, canoeing, trout fishing, snow skiing, snow tubing, ice skating, several wineries, large apple orchards, gem mining, all types of restaurants, country entertainment and music. We are close to several waterfalls [Linville Falls, Upper Creek Falls and Elk Falls to name a few], Table Rock, Hawksbill, Banner Elk, Valle Crucis, Boone & Blowing Rock. About an hour from Asheville, Hickory and Johnson City, 2 hrs from Charlotte. There are 5-6 restaurants within a few miles. The Italian Restaurant and Los Arcoiris (Mexican) in Pineola, Spears and Louise's in Linville Falls, Loaves and Fishes in Crossnore, and Christa's in Pineola [lunch only]. Getting AroundYou definitely need a car to get around this area. Although not absolutely necessary, it is best to have a 4WD or AWD in the winter in this entire mountain area, in case it snows. That could be any time after Nov 1 until around March 31. You can get around without one, but you may encounter restrictions. The road to this cabin is paved all the way, and the driveway is minimal. We are on a county maintained road that is cleared often when it snows. Other Things to NoteWe have numerous brochures, maps, menus and other local info. If you don't see what you are looking for, just ask. We are in a Christmas Tree growing area. If you visit us after Nov 15, you can choose and cut a Christmas Tree and take it with you. Great for people visiting during the Thanksgiving holiday and just after! During holiday weekends and all weekends in fall foliage season (October) Grandfather Mountain fills up fast and may be closed by 11am, so plan to go early to get in, or late in the day. Same applies to Linville Falls. The Blue Ridge Parkway is crowded during fall weekends.

You could also hang out in charming Spruce Pine, North Carolina which is only 15 minutes away or head over to the most interesting city in the world; that is, Asheville, NC which is only around an hour away. The SpaceOur house is perched on the edge of the Linville Gorge Wilderness Area, one of the most remote and beautiful wild places on the East Coast. There is abundant hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing minutes from the house, and skiing and snow tubing nearby. Guest AccessCommunity pool (summertime,) tennis courts, playground. We have an extensive collection of hiking maps of the area that you are welcome to borrow, but please return. Our house is kid and baby-friendly, with outlet covers, cabinet locks, toddler bed, pack-n-play, toys, puzzles and DVDs to borrow while you're there. Also there is a playground in the neighborhood on Westview Drive with baskeball goal and tennis courts. Interaction with GuestsThis is a vacation home, so we will not be present during guests' stays. However they can reach us at anytime with questions or concerns. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is comprised of many North Carolina residents who own mountain retreats, plus a number of folks who live there year-round. Our most notable neighbors are wild ones, though. The house borders a bear sanctuary and wilderness area. Chances are slim that you'll see a bear, but it's EXTREMELY important to remove food from your cars and to NOT leave garbage or food outside. This is for the bears' protection - a fed bear is a dead bear. Getting AroundThe Blue Ridge Parkway is minutes from our house. Take Hwy 181 North past the general store and you'll pass under the access bridge for the Parkway. From there, Grandfather Mountain State Park is 5 minutes north on the Parkway and Linville Falls is 10 minutes south. Either way you're in for a great adventure. Other Things to NoteYou can bring your own sheets and towels OR use ours and wash them, free of charge. We provide dish and laundry soap. The nearest grocery stores are the Lowe's Foods in Linville (20 minutes away) or the Ingle's in Morganton (30 minutes away.) Our refrigerator contains basic condiments & staples which are free for our guests to use. There is also a spice rack for guests use. No need to bring salt, pepper, cooking spray or ketchup. Coffee filters, paper towels, toilet paper and cleaning supplies are provided - please don't take more than you need!

The SpaceThe house is fully furnished with a remodeled kitchen with solid wood cabinets and granite countertops. A spacious separate workshop building is included, and the property comprises seven acres of woods and field. You can hear the river from the house, and there are plenty of trout to interest the fisherman, right out in the Toe River, which runs through the front yard. This would be a great place to spend the summer working on a project in the office which has a built in desk overlooking the river. Or just come for a few days to attend the many summer festivals or look at the fall leaves. Guest AccessIdeally located near Grandfather Mountain, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Linville and many interesting activities and events in the NC mountains. Interaction with GuestsWe are available by email and phone anytime, but otherwise we respect your privacy. The NeighborhoodOur location is rural, but very close to Newland, the County Seat of Avery County. Newland is a small town that is very near all the tourist attractions, but is not a tourist town. The climate is very cool and clear, seldom requiring air conditioning in the summer. The Toe River runs through the property, and the house access is across a bridge over the river. Getting AroundNo public transit. You need your own vehicle. There are plenty of hiking, rafting and cycling opportunities nearby.
