The SpaceWe do our best to be here to welcome you and ensure that you are comfortable before leaving you to your privacy. If we are not here, we have done our best to lay everything out so that you can find what you need.
Come in the side entrance-way and down the hall. Veer to your left and the stairs are there. On the way, you will be passing our home offices and you will see the kitchen which is available for you. Go up the stairs to your private space. Lock the door at the top of the stairs for your privacy. The upstairs is laid out with the bedrooms along the length of the house, no bedrooms are opposite each other. There are two bathrooms opposite the bedrooms. One bathroom has a bathtub/shower combo. One has a large shower, no tub.
Whether traveling alone, with a business team member, a small group, a couple or a family, the upstairs is yours. There are two primary bedrooms, and a third bedroom that can be used as a small den or by opening up the futon can be a third bedroom. You control the temperature, and in every room you have control of the air flow from the heat/AC.
When one or two people use the space, a separate room can be used as a common room with a futon for sitting and a TV with Netflix. Every bedroom has a little table for working. A fourth room is available for your use between 6am and 1:30pm and again from 2:30 pm to 9pm. You can use this room to meditate, relax, nap, exercise or quiet discussions. You can use the infrared sunlamp and the life style powerplate. The hours are limited as this is directly above our bedroom and the noise travels down.
Your space has been cleaned with natural products including vinegar, castille liquid soaps, and a great natural soap called O'Charley that boasts being able to clean anything from dentures to diesel engines. Carpets have been cleaned by the Zero Rez company, using no chemicals and ensuring no residue. In our effort to keep this space free of chemicals for those guests who rely on us to provide a toxin free environment, we require all guests to avoid using scented bath products, shampoos, conditioners, hair sprays, and so on..with the exception of some all natural products with essential oils.
We provide your linens, towels and also have shampoo/conditioner/soap available. Linens and towels are specially laundered for people with sensitive skin...we use magnetic laundry balls instead of detergents, rinse with apple cider vinegar, and then use sheep's wool dryer balls so no chemicals! Shampoo, conditioner and soap is also made from natural ingredients. Although we focus on scent free as much as we can, if there is a scent in the products, it will be essential oils.
Hair dryer, iron/ironing board are also available. We do not provide breakfast but do make you welcome to keep your own groceries in the fridge and to make your own breakfast or other meals in our kitchen. You are welcome to coffee, decaf coffee, and a variety of teas supplied in the kitchen. Guest AccessGuests have private space of the upstairs of the home. As well, guests can use the kitchen, use space in the fridge, cook for themselves, and eat meals in the kitchen or in outdoor dining space. Guests can also hang out on the spacious front porch, working on their laptops as wifi extends to the porch, or being leisurely swinging in the porch swing. The porch has electrical outlets, lights, and paddle fans. There is even a rebounder on the porch for getting some exercise. Interaction with GuestsOne of us will welcome you on arrival and make sure you are settled. After that, if you need us, contact us via email, text or phone and we will get back to you quickly, usually within minutes if not right away. If we are not out working ourselves, we are happy to meet with you, to help you think about your tourism, or how to meet your business needs. It is best in seeking time with us to connect with us to arrange a time that works for all of us, rather than a spontaneous 'pop in' so that we can be fully present to you at the agreed upon time. We have home offices on the main floor of the house and so even though we might be in the house, we might be involved in on line business meetings...hence the need to check with us by text or email to agree on a time to meet. The NeighborhoodIn the countryside, yet right across from a unique equestrian subdivision. To the north of the house you will find woods. To the south of the house, a high end gated community is going in as our family farm has recently been sold to be developed. Our house is set back from the main road that is to the west of the house. Our house is accessed by a little country lane that goes to only two houses. One house, a small cottage, is to the east of us.
When people ask us 'how far is it to......?', the usual answer is '20 minutes'. So, within 20 minutes, there are lots of restaurants, some of our favorites such as Asian Bistro (we love Thai) and Sassool (Lebanese) as close as 10 minutes away. Downtown Durham and downtown Raleigh are also each a 20 minute drive and there is a LOT of great things to see and do in each of these cities.
We are also a 15 minute drive to RDU airport. Between us and the airport is a large power center type shopping mall with restaurants, movie theaters and more.
For warmer weather months, keep in mind that we are 5 miles from Fall's Lake and other parks, with great swimming, kayaking, and playgrounds for the little ones. At the lake we have ample options for picnicking, lying on the beach, hiking. I have even found a spot in a picnic shelter with an electric outlet where I take my laptop when I am needing to write creatively, and enjoy watching the lake and the eagles flying overhead as I write. Getting AroundYou will need a car or to have an account with Uber or Lyft to have a car pick you up and take you places. We are not close to public transportation. For insurance reasons, we cannot offer to take you places ourselves.
We have parking behind the house so there is a safe place for your car. Other Things to Noteit is really important to pay attention to being as chemical free as possible...with your shampoos, body wash, perfumes as we endeavor to keep a toxin free home for guests and ourselves who must have toxin free environments.
We live across from a spacious subdivision that is excellent for walking and jogging in. We are five miles from Falls Lake, access to the mountain to sea hiking trail, Beaver Dam park for kayaking and swimming, and Falls Lake for boating, swimming, picnicking. Although we are in the country, within a 20 minute drive you can reach Raleigh, RDU, RTP, and Durham. If you have a car, there is parking behind the house. If you don't have a car, you may wish to sign up with Uber or Lyft to be able to access fairly affordable transportation. we are not on public transportation routes.
Water is healthy well water and we also have filtered drinking water from a Berkey filter unit, and we have distilled water for drinking for those who prefer it.
There are ample blankets, pillows, towels etc.
The upstairs thermostat can be controlled by you to meet your temperature needs...and then you can adjust the air flow into your room.
