My Kia Optima is able to access this road and make it to Majestic Vista just fine on a monthly basis when I visit. During the winter months all visitors must be aware of weather conditions that can change rapidly, whether the roads are paved or not, we can get snow and ice. Even with a 4WD during winter conditions all visitors must use caution and plan on alternative means of travel up and down the mountain in the event of inclement weather; or like we do when it happens, just wait it out. Usually ice/snow is melted by late morning/early afternoon and the roads are passable once again. Other Things to NoteONE NIGHT STAYS. Interaction with GuestsGuests will have complete privacy, but if you need anything just call or email. The NeighborhoodThe property's main house built in 1926 is on the National Register and is a local landmark with a wonderful history of owners. Why this property? Climbing trees! That’s what necessitated a move from Asheville to Waynesville in 1998. While the Boyers loved all of Asheville’s in-city conveniences, lots in Asheville with roam-about lawns and trees for the Boyer kids were hard to come by. Daydreaming is a lofty endeavor and how can one daydream without expansive lawns and climbing trees? One look at Waynesville’s Judge Frank Smather’s House and the Boyers were smitten. The meandering lawn and pasture, complete with mature trees and rushing Richland Creek was more than they’d hoped for. This many years later, the kids’ attention has shifted from climbing, but the stately evergreens remain a site to behold. Come enjoy the beautiful grounds of Judge Frank’s Coach House and play all you want, get the all-important daydreaming in, and then venture out if you have a mind to . . . coffee shops, pubs, a bakery, antiques, restaurants and shopping are a few minutes’ walk away. Getting AroundNearest bakery: City Bakery, 18 North Main Street and Nearest coffee shops: Panacea Coffeehouse & Roastery, 66 Commerce Street 30 minutes to downtown Asheville, NC Horseback riding can be found at Cataloochee Ranch, beside Cataloochee Ski Resort, as well as Queens Stables in Maggie Valley. Both are approximately 30 minutes away. Harrah's Cherokee Casino 45 minutes. Walking distance to H.A.R.T. Theatre, Main Street art galleries, antique shops, and restaurants. Live music can be heard at the Wine Cellar off Main Street; Dancing at the Stompin' Ground in Maggie Valley. Libabtions: Wine Cellar on Church Street, Tipping Point (Pub), Frog Level Brewing Company, Mountain Bear Brewery Helpful Notes on Asheville - 45 minutes away Be sure to visit Pack Square Park. Walk down Patton Avenue toward the obelisk (tall granite spire) in downtown. This is the beginning of the new park. Children will love it in the warmer months due to the water features. Favorite Restaurants Go to (URL HIDDEN) and/or e(URL HIDDEN) to get more details/reviews about these and other restaurants. The SpaceThis 1930’s “vintage” house has the feel of both a charming cottage and a rustic cabin with its rare, wormy-chestnut walls, wood burning fireplace and lovely view of the mountains. The house is situated in a quiet neighborhood up on a hill near the Waynesville Country Club within a few minutes’ drive to downtown Waynesville and a short drive to some of the highest peaks on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Relax and enjoy the nature that surrounds the home including various species of birds, chipmunks, squirrels, and (on occasion) gray foxes and deer wandering through the woods behind the house. Also be sure to use the binoculars to view the huge lighted cross that sits on top of Mt. Lowry easily seen from the back patio and upper floor bedrooms at night. The cross was placed there in memory of a General’s young daughter and was dedicated in the 1960s by Billy Graham. The house has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths (plus one downstairs) and is newly furnished. The master bedroom (king bed) is on the main floor and 2 bedrooms upstairs (twins in one and queen bed in 2nd) share a bath. The master bathroom is roomy with an antique claw foot tub and separate shower. There is a big deck off the back of house with lovely view of the mountains, outdoor patio furniture and grill. There is a large screen TV with cable in the living room as well as a TV downstairs in the finished basement along with a championship quality ping/pong table. The kitchen though charmingly rustic is completely outfitted with everything you need to prepare and serve a gourmet meal. We hope you have a wonderful stay and enjoy the multitude of activities in and around Waynesville and the Asheville area!(URL HIDDEN) Guest AccessAmenities as described Interaction with GuestsAs needed

Magnificent Mountain Home Work of Art - A wonderful place to gather friends and family for that special event...A perfect home away from home to relax and soak up the beautiful mountain views right along the Pigeon river. Ti date over ten couples have picked our home for their wedding celebration.!...Like other luxury mountain top homes, as you approach this home you will appreciate the home's picturesque presentation and obvious beauty. The view is clear and almost forever as you gaze across the expansive vista. However, the similarity to other homes ends as you cross the entry threshold and suffer the complete loss of breath one typically experiences on a first visit to this magnificent work of art. You immediately notice and can never forget the hand carved stair railings and beams, finished and polished by hand but in their natural state. Across a voluminous huge room filled with furniture, windows and light, you notice the hand selected stone fireplace filling the end of the room. A work of art in itself. Off to the left is a Gourmet's delight of a kitchen, spacious and filled with granite and stainless and everything necessary to prepare a gourmet meal for two or thirty. As you begin to wander and look, you soon discover that this is the collective work of artisans and old school craftsmen who painstakingly excelled, an owner with a profound appreciation of nature and art combined with an unlimited budget all who collectively felt challenged with the task of building much more than a luxury home, but more a magnificent work of art, the likes of which most people have never had an opportunity to behold. And you among the fortunate are now standing here. As you continue to explore its 6 bedrooms and 5 baths, you remain amazed at the attention to detail framed in the most usual ways, such as a whole tree trunk, hand hollowed and polished to accommodate plumbing for its use as a sink base in lieu of the typical cabinet...One of many unique, small details that you will soon discover as you explore. Tile work abounds everywhere also displaying and embellishing the beauty and uniqueness of this fine work of art. You will discover a wine cellar with a tasting room and a home gym to work out if you have the energy. A steam room, heated bathroom floors, the list goes on and on. A study with a magnificent sound system will draw you in and capture you for hours. The home could virtually be in contention for a Noble Peace Prize for the amount of tranquility it bestows on its visitors if it were not for the continued arousal of curiosity of true art lovers. If you happen to be an architect, designer, builder, curator, art collector, nature lover, you do yourself a disservice by not experiencing this work of art. And by day, if you wander outside onto the natural stone terrace, you'll see a commanding view that looks far beyond any horizon or down to a lovely rushing river filled with the sound of water splashing on the rocks. Perhaps tubing or trout fishing kindle your youthful spirit. At night sitting in rocking chairs by a huge outdoor stone fireplace with a glass of wine will kindle your imagination or looking up to the same star filled sky that Van Gogh was so inspired by but a night sky more clear and bright than you've ever experienced. Whatever you do, don't miss this opportunity to spend a week or two living within a true work of art. Who knows when the Owner may say no more, and it's gone from all of us forever. In the meantime if you are fortunate enough to stay here, I assure you that you will leave amazed and truly blessed by a memorable experience in this mountain top work of art. Mountain Cabin with Stunning Views! Enjoy the ever changing views of Jonothan Creek Valley from the top of Whispering Winds. This nearly new beauty features Tongue and groove natural wood throughout which makes this log cabin warm but open and light. Vaulted ceiling great room with rock fireplace and wraparound decking maximize the view. Sleeping loft offers 2nd bed, dresser, futon mattress and a full size air mattress. low ceiling height in the Loft area but room enough to sleep the whole gang. Access through large master suite. Huge closet in Master Bedroom.King Size bed with the best mattress you will ever sleep on!! Master Bath even has a urinal as well as a private Loo that's handicap compliant. The Great Room has a 42" Sharp LCDHD TV and a 6 disc surround Stereo, Dish network Satellite service, XM/Serius radio and lots of movies on hand for your enjoyment after a full day of romping in the mountains. We are now equipped with full WIFI High Speed internet so bring your Laptop's and setup wherever you like. The Kitchen has every convenience you will need and also has full view of the Great Room and the Mountains beyond. So relaxing you'll wish you could stay forever! The short 1/2 mile trip from the main road is a typical mountain gravel road with 2 swichback's that can be managed by most 2 wheel drive cars. Low profile sporstcars or ground effects packages will probably rub and I recommend something with normal ground clearance. If you don't have experience driving in the mountains, then I recommend all wheel drive not just for Whispering Winds, but for many of the roads you will find in the area. You should plan to arrive in the daylight hours and then everyone says that after their first trip, they love the road. Let me know if you have questions about anything. Refundable deposit is $200 without pets and $300 with pets.
