The SpaceWe designed and built this log cabin in 1999 after a trip to Norway and Sweden where we were inspired by the use of natural interior wood. Our intention was to have an aesthetic, simple, and peaceful retreat from our busy lives. Towards that end, the cabin has many windows, beautiful cherry floors, and unfinished wood walls so that it is filled with light and the lovely scent of new wood. It is uncluttered and furnished with a mix of old and new: an antique dining table and hutch share space with the modern (newly installed) kitchen with a propane stove and granite countertop. The full bathroom has a lovely antique tub and a hand-held shower. There is a small, private bedroom downstairs with a full bed, two twins beds in the loft and the futon sofa and chair each open into beds as well. Although the cabin is small (800 sq ft), the great room (with a wood stove) has a cathedral ceiling so that it feels much larger than it is. Both the great room and the bedroom open to a large deck with a gas grill. We are only 5 mins from the Blue Ridge Parkway, 10 min from Weaverville, and 20 mins from downtown Asheville – a wonderful city full of restaurants, music, and life. In the woods, on a south-facing slope, the cabin is private but not isolated as it is the only seasonal dwelling on 88 acres in a small “intentional” community of artists, retired professors, and professionals. This is the perfect zen retreat for a lone writer or even a small family looking for an escape to the mountains. (There's a nice little kids' area in the loft with a few books, games, art supplies, and toys.) The cabin has a nice little wood stove which you are welcome to use, as long as you're familiar with how to safely operate one. We recently installed a mini-split heat pump (controlled with a remote) that heats and air conditions the cabin. It uses much less energy and emits far less carbon dioxide than typical heating/cooling units. Please see "House Rules" for other important information! Guest AccessThere is good cell phone coverage, but no internet. Interaction with GuestsWe are very happy to interact extensively through Air B n B, separate email, text, cell talk, etc. We love helping guests enjoy their stay at the cabin and in Asheville. Guests are welcome to contact us at any time. We don't live at the cabin itself, so guests can enjoy privacy and solitude. The NeighborhoodThe cabin is situated in a small community of year-round homes. Very interesting people: artists, computer gurus, social workers, and more. Getting AroundNot really.

The SpaceMain level is fully handicap accessible, from the ramp at the entrance to cooking in the kitchen to taking a shower or doing laundry. This arts and crafts style home has all hardwood and tile floors on the main level with the master bedroom, bath and laundry. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishes and pots and pans for all of your cooking needs. The gas fireplace is custom designed by a local artist and in the winter provides enough heat for the entire home. The 2nd level has two generous size bedrooms who share a jack and jill bathroom, each with their own toilet and sink and share a shower space. There are two desk areas in the home, one on each floor. This is a very quiet neighborhood that appears you are living in a park, rather than a small subdivision. This house sits on over an acre with the home of the owner. Shopping is 2-3 minutes away, grocery, liquor, drug store, several restaurants, retail shopping, art galleries and much more. Ziplining is just up the highway and Biltmore estate is south of us less than 15 miles away. Skiing is just north of us at Wolf Ridge. Several local cab company's service the area. I live next door and can assist you with most of your questions. I will provide light grocery shopping and dog walking for a fee. My mother is a REALTOR and has a large network of people at her finger tips. If I can't answer a question or help you with your travel plans, she will be able to for sure! We are collectors of local art, crafts and antiques and can assist you with the best places to shop and add to your collections. We aren't hikers but have information as to the best places to go and who to talk to about out door activities. Asheville hosts over 300 independent restaurants and we can give you a guide to help you choose the best places to dine, many within 5-10 min of here. We keep a variety of maps, events and things to do at the house. This will save you a trip to the local visitors center. It is like having your own private concierge! We look forward to hosting you on your next trip to Western North Carolina. We have added a Graco portable crib for guests traveling with infants. It is stored in one of the bedroom closets for your use. We also have two high chairs for your use. Access to the full house and the yard, the swing set, the fire pit, the entertaining areas and places for dogs to walk. They have access to the porch off of the front of their house also with a table for out door seating. If we are home, we sometimes see them as we are going back and forth to their cars, otherwise we never see each other. We text each other if issues arise. We will not stop by unless you invite us! We like to honor your privacy while you are there. Small private subdivision. Close to everything as far as shopping, PO, restaurants, grocery but yet you feel like you are out in the country. The neighbors are almost invisible due to the trees that we planted surrounding our property. On leasing, this is first come first serve for the space. We have held time frames open for guests in the past and then end up losing another paying guest. It is a business and we will rent the space to the first person who qualifies and will no longer hold a space open while someone makes a decision! From the airport it is almost a straight shot to the house. 26 miles door to door, highway I-26 West from the airport to our exit 18 Monticello road, then turn left, go across the bridge, take the first right on Ayers Rd, to Songbird lane on the right and then the third house on the right and you are there. Takes about 20-25 min depending on the traffic. If you have any special events happening and would like something waiting for you, we can offer that assistance to you. If we are in town prior to your stay, we try to leave you a welcome surprise upon arrival! If you need an earlier check in or a later check out, let us know. IF we don't have another guest close to your date, we will work with you on that. We are on well water with a full filtration system, if you are used to city water that has flouride in it, some people are not used to pure well water and may want to get bottled water to drink. We get our water tested on a regular basis, so it is probably safer than most city tap water! We have had issues with too many cars in the past so we are limiting guests to three cars, no exceptions, this is a home, not a parking lot and we can't have these cars all over the driveway and the yard. If you have a one day event, please let us know but there cannot be a continuous stream of cars all over the property. Guest AccessGuests have access to the full house Interaction with GuestsWe have little to no interaction unless they request it or need assistance with something. The NeighborhoodIt is a small neighborhood, great for walking yourself or you and your dog. Everyone knows each other, there are only 8 houses so it is safe and quiet. We also have easy access to the highway and downtown Weaverville. Grocery stores, Wal Mart, gas stations, all within 5 minutes of the house. Getting AroundNo public transit except for taxi and uber service Other Things to NoteWe just added a Keirug coffee pot so if you would like to bring your own pods, help yourself! We have a high chair and a portable crib that is stored in the master bedroom closet. Extra pillows and sheets are also in there if you need them.

Nestled in the Rheems Creek valley only 12 miles from downtown Asheville is the Carolina Jewel Inn. The historic farmhouse was originally built in 1845 as a two room rough hew log cabin. As industry and agriculture grew in the area. the family (email: hidden)d in the house also grew. In 1880 the log cabin was added onto in a Victoria style to accommodate the family. Today it has been loving restored to include private baths for each bedroom and eight working fireplaces. A footbridge crosses the creek to the "Crystal Creekside Cottage" build with modern conveniences and the tranquil sound of running water in the briskly running stream. The cottage has a rustic ambiance rich with warm wood tones. The great room has a working gas log fireplace, cozy and comfortable furnishings, generous daylight and room for the family or friends to have meals around the table. The kitchen is supplied with great cookware, kitchen linens, dishes for a service for 8, wine glasses, and even a Keurig coffeemaker. The master bedroom is downstairs with a king size bed and full bath with a Jacuzzi tub and separate shower. The upstairs loft bedroom has a deluxe memory foam king-split bed and a comfy over-sized lounging chair perfect for reading that book you've been meaning to read. Also upstairs is a full bath with tub, walk-in closet, and full size washer and dryer. Outside the front door is a large covered porch with rocking chairs and tables. The morning sun is gentle and the your cup of coffee makes the you long to linger! Outside the back door is a large deck facing the woods and the beautiful creek with it's soothing sounds. The Blue Ridge Parkway is only 5 miles away up a curvy mountain road through the trees. North Carolina Historic site - Vance Birthplace is just a mile up the road. Your host offer all the services of a VIP Concierge. Recommendations (and reservations) for restaurants, sightseeing, activities of all types from antiquing to zip-lining; these are a few of the ways we like to offer our Southern Hospitality! Check with Eva at the Carolina Jewel for special pricing and availability. The Crystal Creekside Cottage is located in one of the most beautiful valleys in Western North Carolina - the Reems Creek Valley. The historic main house, which is part of the property, was slated for demolition when the Preservation Society stepped in to halt the demolition. A beautiful, up-scale community called Hawks Landing now wraps its arms around the back side of the historic estate. Looking out from each of the 7 porches give a different view of the mountains in which the Carolina Jewel is cradled.

Beautiful Reems Creek Valley is home to the Historic Carolina Jewel Inn. The Carolina Jewel has 5 bedrooms in the historic 1845 Victorian Farmhouse. Each of the suites in the historic home, listed as the "Brigman-Chambers House" on the National Register of Historic Places, has its' own unique charm. All bedrooms have private baths and working fireplaces. The oldest portion of the home was built in 1845 and has rustic rough-hewn logs in the great room with its fireplace made of rocks pulled from the fields outside. Adjacent to the great room is the fully stocked modern kitchen and laundry room for your use. In 1880 an addition of the Victorian style, was added to the log cabin to accommodate the growing family. The Sapphire Serenity Suite faces the west for sunrises that gently wake you from a restful night sleep on the king size pillow top sleeper. (Yes, our guests rave about our mattresses that is why we want you to know). The double doors to the master bathroom with the Jacuzzi tub can sooth tired muscles after a day of hiking or bicycling the Blue Ridge Parkway, or just wash your worries away. The Emerald Escape Suite has retained its up-scale country charm with a high four poster rice bed and antiques. Lace window treatment billow in the wind should you choose fresh air over the central air-conditioning. You will enjoy the eclectic touch of color in bathroom with steps leading down to the antique claw-footed tub, white bead board walls and white eyelet curtains. The Garnet Getaway is warm and cozy with its antiques and fireplace. Garnets come in all colors except blue and the room is decorated with soft tones of multiple colors. The garnet bathroom is charming with its decorator accents and plush robes. The Ruby Romance is one of the largest rooms with a two person soaking tub situated to look up at the mountain. The regal king size bed dominates the room decorated in warm red and gold tones. This memory foam bed is designed and manufactured by a chiropractor and is amazing! Signatures of some of the ancestors have been preserved on the wall; must have be a prank of some sort and probably made the Mom mad that adult children wrote on the wall! There are five porches surrounding the Carolina Jewel: two upstairs and three downstairs. The balcony off the upstairs hallway can be your hideaway facing the mountain as you enjoy a glass of wine, a good book, and a good friend. The ground level Victorian porch, dressed in white wicker has the character and definition of a "Victorian Lady" with its four colors of paint and decorative trim. The original 1845 porch is where many Sunday afternoons were spent with family, friends, and probably the Preacher! Relax your cares away in the wooden glider as you listen to the creek. The porch outside the kitchen has its history too. You will see the plaque indicating the Historic Registry designation granted in 2002. The SpaceThis is a kit home built in 1962 perched on a hill. The neighbors tell me that when the family built it, they were thrilled to upgrade to indoor plumbing. It's interesting to consider that these small 10X12 bedrooms, diminuitive by modern standards, represented such a tremendous increase in quality of life in recent human history. This was a starter home for me, a fixer-upper, and I have many wonderful memories built here. I hope you do too! Share your photos on Instagram at #cozycountryairbnb! Guest AccessYou will have access to the entire home. Interaction with GuestsThis AirBnB listing comes free of on-site interaction with hosts (however, should you need us, we're very available by phone/text!) When a reservation is confirmed, you will receive instructions on how to access the keys. You will also receive our "Best Of" recommendations for the mountains we call home. The NeighborhoodSurrounded by pastureland to the rear, and just a few minutes' walk from the North Buncombe High School which is surrounded by a lovely hiking trail (there is an outdoor pool in the summertime as well). On the way in, you'll likely pass the Flat Creek Tavern, an interesting place to kill an hour or two. The slopes of Mars Hill are a great destination during the winter months. Two exits from grocery and shopping, and 12 minutes to downtown Asheville. Getting AroundThis listing is not convenient to public transportation, and you'll need a car to get around. Other Things to NoteThis is a country home, and as such, is closely acquainted with nature. If a spider in the corner or an errant moth around the porch light are things that bother you, this probably isn't the space for you.

The SpaceSparklebark Farm is a small-scale organic farm and homestead. For the past four years Zac and Bea, the owners, have been collaborating with a revolving cast of incredibly talented friends to make this land a model of sustainability, as well as natural and artistic beauty. We grow a ton of vegetables as well as flowers and keep flocks of free range chickens and ducks. Bea is a fine artist who makes beautiful nature-based drawings (check out her (email hidden)), and Zac is a builder and woodworker who has been pouring his heart into beautifying and constructing buildings and infrastructure at Sparklebark. Our vision is to continue to steward and beautify the land through agriculture as well as art, we are so excited to share this little slice of paradise! Guest AccessOur furnished 3 season guest cabin sits at the crest of our mountain view. You're a short 20 yard walk from our fancy outdoor composting toilet and sink, but very secluded from our main house and the neighbors. Alongside the bathroom, is your very own beautifully crafted outdoor shower (yes, the water is hot!). Guests also have access to their own fire pit to make a small bonfire or roast some marshmallows (Firewood is complimentary). There is no kitchen access, but we are one mile away from the extremely popular Stoney Knob Cafe, 5 minutes from downtown Weaverville and 10 minutes away from all the delicious eats and drinks (BEER!!) Asheville has to offer. Interaction with GuestsWhile you are relaxing at the bottom of the hill, we are working like busy bees on top of the hill. Expect a friendly and warm welcome, but plenty of time to yourself as we farm our land, work on creative projects, and occasionally howl at the moon. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is the nearby mountain range. We live on seven acres of land, and rarely see or hear our neighbors. Sometimes if the wind is blowing the right way, you can hear the laughter of the children who live on the other side of the valley. We enjoy the rural setting but can be at any location in Asheville in under 15 minutes and on the blue ridge parkway or deep in the woods in 20! Getting AroundYou're gonna have to drive yourself here...unless you're a burly cyclist! There's plenty of parking. Other Things to NoteWe are a queer-friendly space!
